Tournaments and Events / More stuff at Zaelar's place (9/9-9/11)
« on: September 07, 2011, 02:20:13 AM »
The usual, starts whenever people come on friday, ends sunday when I have to leave for work, usually between 5-6pm.

The doorbell is calling my phone.  PM me if you need my number.  If someone happens to stumble upon the door before I get there say you're looking for Kevin, although they'll probably already know.

Bring a setup if you can.

My excuse for the late post this time is I forgot I didn't post it here when I posted in the regional thread >.>

ah3 and mb and maybe other random games

starts friday afternoon, ends sunday at 6-7pm, depending when I have to leave for work.

If you could bring a setup(or recording/streaming equipment if you want) that would be great.

Either pm me or post here telling me to pm you or ask my secretary(chibi) on irc if you need directions.  It's in north NJ, easy to get to by bus from NY.

People staying the night(s) is/are fine, but it's mostly floor space.  2-3 couch spots available.

Will likely be making a group trip to a diner for deathburger tradition.

Akiha's Tea Room / Rock Paper Scissors situation/strategy
« on: December 24, 2010, 12:17:46 AM »
Here's the situation.  You're playing against someone in one throw of rock paper scissors for stakes high enough that you care if you win or lose.  You have your opponent scouted, and you know they will throw scissors 70% of the time, rock 15% of the time, and paper 15% of the time.  These percentages are accurate, no deception or misinformation going on.  For this game you decide to go with rock.  Your opponent uses paper and you lose.  The question for the poll is, what should you have used?

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Silly E quirk
« on: September 03, 2010, 01:06:37 PM »
If you use E to grab or dodge it presses the buttons for 1 frame and releases them regardless of how long you hold E, assuming you aren't already holding the buttons it uses.  If you hold E at neutral it will hold ABC for as long as you hold E and the stick is in neutral.  If you press any direction that isn't 5 the buttons are released.

If you hold 4a/6a and press e you'll always get an ex shield.
If you hold d and press 4/6e you'll get a 4a/6a on the first possible frame, in case you have a charged one and don't want to charge it.
If you hold a and press 2e you'll get an instant release 2b.  F-moon doesn't need to hold a.
If you hold b and press 2e you'll get an instant release 2a.
If you find someone that doesn't know you can bet him that you can press and release E in 1 frame 10 times in a row.

So basically nothing you can actually use in a match that isn't already easy to do.  I'm also aware of how completely useless some of the things I listed are.  I listed them to be complete, and if in the future E doesn't change but someone gets a charged 2A it's covered.

Tournaments and Events / The return of DEATHBURGER! 2/21-22
« on: February 01, 2009, 08:53:17 PM »
Date is going for 2/21(-22).  This is to spite the people who get to go to bell's gathering.  Hopefully we can be super-dorks and organize some online ec v wc with them.

Space is still limited.  I have room for about 6(so actually about 8).  If you need directions/my address/my phone let me know and I'll PM it or something.  Also say if you intend to stay the night or not.

I'm not sure how much deathburgers cost now but expect to pay like 10-15 at the diner.(THIS IS SO NOT OPTIONAL!)
Sunday we will very likely be getting burgers from the legendary white mana.  I'm planning on just ordering like 40 of them and charging a buck fifty for each.
There's a few places within walking distance if you randomly get hungry.  Deathburger diner, 7-11, subway, chinese place, boston market.

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Whiff 5a grab option select (mbac)
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:41:29 PM »
I posted this in the Ciel section because that's who I made this for, but it works for several characters.  This is just a copy/paste, but most of it isn't specific to Ciel.  In the second paragraph you'll need different combos, and depending on the character you might want to option select with something other than 2b.

Works against anyone that can crouch 5a.  Just do 5a6a+d, delaying the 6a+d so it happens during 5a's recovery.  If the 5a whiffs the 6a+d becomes a grab, but on hit/block it becomes 6a.  After that continue with 2b so if you don't get the grab you can do a combo/block string out of it.  If you do it in a situation that isn't tight(like after dashing in) you have to check if you got an air hit and go into an air combo if it is.  It's easier than it sounds.

So full notation is 5a6a+d2b, or 5a6q2b, and by then you have a brain dead hit confirm.  On block you can end with a blocked 2a, 2c 2a(whiff), or any other counter-hit/ender you want to do that doesn't involve 5a.  The combo I like to do on hit is (after the 2b) 2a5a6abcc sd 6aa j.bc j.bc grab.  Note that this combo doesn't work on crouchers, and if I hit a croucher with this I do (after the 2b) 2a5a6a5cc, 2c5c j.bc j.bc grab.

You can also use this against characters that can't crouch 5a to cover anytime you mess up and do a late 5a.  Or you could just try to go for an actual meaty 5a but since you're going to mess up a lot you get essentially random grab oki.  Only works if you don't practice meaty 5a enough to get it reliably.

Tournaments and Events / Battle by the Gazebo 8: After Dinner Mint 10/11
« on: September 11, 2008, 01:46:23 PM »
The main event is going to have $5 entree fee.
Side events(if we have time and setups) will likely be $1 or $2.(blitz anyone?)

Format will be determined by the number of available setups and number of entrees.

Usual rules:
BYOC - Controller must be usable without installation of programs/drivers and can't control your opponent.
Hardware macros and turbo functions are not allowed.
Coin-flip for side, loser picks stage(or winner may pick stage and tell loser to pick side).
If no flip the stage must be agreed on by both players or random.
Double-blind character selection on request.
Please keep the profanity to a minimum(which is none), and the area clean.

I hope to get bbg8 posted by the end of the week, but in the meantime you can help to shape future events!

This is directed at future participants for the main Melty Blood event onlySide game formats will be mostly unaffected by this.

I'm not asking what you think would make a good event or what you think most people want, I'm asking what YOU personally want.  You can either reply or PM me your responses or if you have any questions.

Think each individual question over separately, and answer on a scale of 0-10.  In general 0 means you are very against, 5 means you don't care either way, and 10 means you are very for.  More explanations on how I take your answers are below.  You can just say what you'd like to see if you're too lazy to answer everything; If you liked the single elim say that, if you want large sets say that, if you want the chance to play against top players say that.  I'm not guaranteeing that anything is going to happen, but if a lot of people want something thats what I'm going to try to go for.

Quote or copy/paste my next post for an easy answer form.
If your answers are short/just the number then just adding them to the quote is fine.

1)How much do you care about casuals?

0 - "I don't want any casuals and just want to play tournament matches."
low - "I'd rather have more tournaments/longer tournaments."
5 - "I don't care either way."
high - "I want to see a lot of casuals."
10 - "I don't care at all about the tournament and would rather just have casuals all day."

2)Do you care about accuracy of placings past first?

0 - "I don't even care about first"
low - "Not really."
5 - "Not a priority, but would be nice to have."
high - "Format should include accuracy at the cost of time for casuals/other events."
10 - "Round robin or bust."

3)Do you care about a fair tournament?

0 - "Fairness should always be sacrificed for what people want."
low - "Not really."
5 - "I prefer it to be fair, but won't complain about small things."
high - "Fairness should be the last thing sacraficed, but if a lot of people want something then it might be bendable."
10 - "100% fair, all the time."

4)Do you want to see top players play each other?

0 - "I have no interest."
5 - "I like to see it but it isn't a priority."
10 - "It's all I care about."

5)Do you care if the top players play in tournament?(for watching purposes, not ranking)

0 - "I want them to play in casuals where there's less pressure."
5 - "I don't care."
10 - "If it's not tournament it doesn't count."

6)Do you want to play against top players?(directed at weaker players)

0 - "I prefer not to."
5 - "I don't care who I play."
10 - "I'd love the chance to play them."

7)Do you want to play in more tournament matches?

0 - "Not at all."
low - "I like short tournaments."
5 - "No preference."
high - "I'd like to play several people."
10 - "As many as possible."

8)Do you care about rigging to separate friends/regions?

0 - "Get that crap of here."
low - "I'd rather not have it."
5 - "I don't care either way."
high - "I'd prefer not to play my friends."
10 - "I never want to play my friends in tournament."

9)Do you want to see a ranbat or other such scoring system?

0 - "No."
5 - "Yeah kinda."
10 - "Definitely."

10)Do you want to see seeding by that point system?

0 - "No."
low - "Only if it doesn't conflict with other things."
5 - "I don't care."
high - "I'd like to see it happen."
10 - "Definitely."

11)How much do you care about secondary tournaments? (teams/other random stuff)

0 - "Get that stuff out of here."
low - "Maybe sometimes."
5 - "I don't care about them much but would enter."
high - "I'd like to see them."
10 - "They should replace the main event."

12)How far off do you want to see the rules for the secondary tournament?

0 - "Run back the same tournament."
low - "Maybe a format change or teams."
10 - "Random select, screen upside down, and play using a ddr pad with 5 input delay."

13)How much do you care about side-games?

high - "They should be a priority."
10 - "It's practically all I'm there for."

BBG7: BROUGHT TO YOU BY SNAPPLE THE BISCUIT

8/23
3pm start(Signups will likely be cut at 4:00, and casuals will end)
Sameish location: The gazebo is being reserved by Zar from 3-8, so we'll be running it there.
If you need travel information everything should be in the bbg6 thread here http://www.meltybread.com/forums/index.php?topic=1453.0.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Columbus+Park,+67+Mulberry+St,+New+York,+New+York,+New+York,+United+States&jsv=124&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=37.871902,79.101563&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=0,40.715800,-73.999390&latlng=40715820,-73999386,17851420294280422500&ei=-t2pSJL0NJjcqALFx-TSDQ
THE GAZEBO is the gray box at the northern most part of the park (bayard & mulberry).

There will also be an Akatsuki Blitztwooo tournament.(run by Rithli)

$5 entree fee -- $25 removed for venue fees, rest as prize.
Double elimination.
Single game matches.
Possible second/third place prizes depending on turnout.
Bracket will be set to separate players by region.

If someone can provide a second setup I'll cover your entree fee.  Setup must have correct aspect ratio, 2 usb ports, and no slowdown.  A third may be used if turnout is large enough.  Excess setups may be brought for casuals, but won't get free entree.
Players may not demand a setup to use if there is more than one available.  If you have concerns about a setup being playable for tournament matches tell me asap and I will test it personally along with input from other players.

Please keep the profanity to a minimum(which is none), and the area clean.

Remember you MUST keep the area clean (says so on the permit) and try to keep profanities downnn (out of respect to the proprietors who loaned us the area). Also, there may actually be some columnists/journalists present- be ready to REPRESENT USMB and the fighting gaming culture (think of some possible q&a's so you dont look stupid lol but hey, thats on you.)

Expect me to be at CF by 1pm and we can try to set up some casuals before parting to the HYPE MACHINES. At about 2:30pm well will break out and head to the park (by the vendors) to discuss rules and collect venue and tournament entry fees. (Since i chose not to state that fees will be collected when I applied for the reservation we will have to keep this on the low :x ).

and update

22:51]   <ztbubz>   so i guess i'll be at cf at about 12pm
[22:51]   <ztbubz>   then at the park vendors from 1-2:30 [1pm-2:30pm]
[22:52]   <ztbubz>   dont want to risk setting up in cf cus sam may be there
[22:52]   <ztbubz>   since they got a new game and all

I may just jump back and forth from CF to Columbus Park to pick ppl up and escort them.

Tournaments and Events / EVO money matches
« on: July 31, 2008, 12:51:45 AM »
Primarily for MB I guess but other games are fine.  If no game is mentioned just assume it's MB.

I want to runback against Arlieth, same as last year, 5/9 for 50.

I challenge EVERYONE not from ec.  Name your terms.  I'll accept 2/3 or 3/5 for 20 from anyone, but if you have other terms let me know so I can probably agree.

Also accepting games from anyone in akatsuki blitzjewpunch for the same terms.  Again, preferably not from ec since we can play other times.

I'll MM in other games too but I'm mostly looking for those.

Feel free to add your challenges here or just announce already planned matches here for hype.

Oh and get hype...so uh, you all suck.

Yeah, get hype.  Probably going to be at cf till we get kicked out then to our secondary location.  Should have mb and ab action.

update:  Come whenever you want.  CF opens noonish, which I hope to be there not long after.  Gazeebo is weather dependent, but the forecast looks good.
