Ciel's Tech Support / PCSX2 0.9.6 - Commandline?
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:59:26 PM »
I'm trying to set up PCSX2 to run commandline, but it basically ignores everything, specifying an iso, -bootmode commands, anything I throw at it.  I know 0.9.7 doesn't have commandline, but does anyone else have 0.9.6 and could try this out?

Ciel's Tech Support / Overclocking USB in Vista, temporarily.
« on: November 25, 2008, 08:50:56 AM »
So far, the only solution I've been able to find for overclocking USB ports in Vista is semipermanent:

http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?s=e327793189712e82bdacc9c4ffc99950&t=8561

Does anyone know of any utilities or methods to overclock a port temporarily?

Ciel's Tech Support / Making a Samsung lie about its capabilities.
« on: October 09, 2008, 08:23:55 PM »
I'm looking for a way to make my Samsung 953BW lie about its capabilities to Windows and the windows registry, through .inf, registry or driver editing to claim compatibility a wider range of resolutions.  At present, Mabinogi refuses to list high definition resolutions for me when I use the supplied Samsung driver.

Akiha's Tea Room / Recharging one's batteries
« on: January 08, 2008, 11:54:49 PM »
I'm getting ready to come home from deployment.  I'm sorely in need of the two weeks rest I know I have coming, but I haven't the foggiest idea of what to do with it.   :V

What are some of your favorite activities to recharge your batteries after a semester, or a long project at work?

Akiha's Tea Room / On building a scene
« on: January 04, 2008, 06:51:12 PM »
It seems that a lot of areas off the coasts, and especially over in Europe, are very scattered about with regards to players.  So, I've been mulling over doing something about that at home, and try to start up some noise in the Missouri area.

What kinds of things do you guys do to build interest and bring in new players?  Where do you find new players?

Akiha's Tea Room / How to force a controller to 2nd?
« on: December 29, 2007, 05:17:59 AM »
I need to brush up on my 2p side (I play lopsided, it's a point of frustration with me), and rather than face the annoyance of jumping to the opposite side every time, I was wondering if there was a way to get MBAC to recognize my controller as the second player?

Akiha's Tea Room / Is there a better method? (Learning Arcade stick)
« on: December 08, 2007, 07:22:28 AM »
I'm at the point where I feel easily familiar with my arcade stick, but I don't have the acute kind of control I need to have spot on execution.  More and more practice seems to be yielding very little benefit.  This is beginning to frustrate me, and thusly I ask:  Are there any methods or exercises, beyond rote combo practice, that I can use to tighten up my control?

~M

Am I investing my time well trying to get these down?  They're exceedingly difficult (the stick reads input 8 for 1 frame constantly.)

Also, I still can't get the timing reliable on the blasted airstring.  (j.AB j.ABC) it seems that the A's will randomly 'stick' and not cancel into the B, and I get a string of useless or worse, dangerous A's that allow the opponent to tech.

Here, a place to post your victories of the day, regardless of what they are.

Today, I showed a 20 year retired military, 5 year civilian radio technician that I'm smarter and a better radio tech than he is.

Akiha's Tea Room / Happy Thanksgiving!
« on: November 21, 2007, 11:58:11 PM »
Unfortunately I didn't take the time out to draw an epically disastrous Tohno family thanksgiving dinner (I had a few choice ideas)  But I'll still post my best wishes to you all for today.

I have gorged on a turkey that could have been fed on small children and steroids, I have two slices of pumpkin pie lying in the fridge waiting for me to not be full, and best of all, the rest of the base is too fat and happy to bother me whilst I play with the wiki.

How are you enjoying your holiday?  And why the hell are you reading this if you are?  :V

They're updating the filters out here, which means that in the next week or so, I may disappear.  If so, I can be kept in touch with at knk_motoh at the two most usual free email places (either of them).

Melty Blood Auditorium / Recommended source for buying mooks?
« on: November 18, 2007, 12:19:55 AM »
Yeah, I'mma take a plunge into the overly technical side of things and get a MBAC mook.  Does anyone have a recommended store?

Sadly, I can't access Arly's meltyshop link to check out there...

Akiha's Tea Room / Resources to find... Arcades!
« on: November 16, 2007, 09:46:17 AM »
I'm wondering if there's anything like a wiki or a yellow pages for arcades, with listings of what games they have and the like.  I'm getting twitchy out here with no action, and want to find someplace close to home to feed my addiction.

日本語BBS / Understanding kanji
« on: November 08, 2007, 03:26:26 AM »
I was wondering if anyone had a good resource to actually understanding kanji, not just writing or pronouncing it.  I can't learn it very well through rote memorization, I tend to prefer knowing the meanings and structures.

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Tick Throwing
« on: November 03, 2007, 10:22:13 PM »
Can someone give me a good example of how to do a tick throw setup, and an explanation of how it works?  I'm trying to cook up the article for the wiki.

Akiha Vermillion / V players - to the wiki with ye!
« on: November 03, 2007, 03:45:39 AM »
Need you guys to review what I'm puttin up for VAkiha on the wiki, see if it meshes with your views, if I'm missing critical info, and if there's stuff I don't have up you want there.  And don't be shy about editing it yourself, too.

Akiha's Tea Room / Your music SUCKS!
« on: October 30, 2007, 04:08:55 AM »
I'm out here bored listening to a multiterabyte share drive of music, and when your options get this free, it gets hard to choose the gems from the trash.

So recommend something to me!  What do you listen to?  Got any rare treasures that you discovered out in the dark corners of the net or an indy club?  Share it!

In the spirit of many of these threads and the direction they take, I've satirically titled this topic the direction I don't want it to go.

Currently listening to:  Rin Tosite Sigure, a japanese punk band.  Tasty.

Melty Blood Auditorium / Your wiki - What do you want from it?
« on: October 28, 2007, 11:49:22 PM »
I'm a shade uncertain of what I'd like to shape the wiki to be, so I figured I'd ask for the input of the users (gasp!)  So what did/do you expect when you load up the meltywiki?  Wikified versions of the front page articles, maybe an advanced technique of the day?  What kind of data are you looking for out of the character pages?

I've got a few ideas to add to the mix, but I like having a cohesive grip on all the ideas I can get.  Feed me.   :teach:

Akiha's Tea Room / War stories: Surviving shitty equipment.
« on: October 14, 2007, 03:34:33 AM »
It's been forever (1997?) since I was in an arcade setting, so I haven't run into many troubles lately, but I was recalling horrible times of yore when buttons were left broken for ages, coin slots ate quarters from the unsuspecting, and sticks were as responsive as a coma patient.  Most memorably, I remember playing KOF out in Ohio somewhere (damned if I can recall) and all the buttons were screwed around out of order on the system.

What's some of the worst stuff you've ever seen a cab/stick put through?  Or even, what's the worst a cab/stick has put you through?

Akiha Vermillion / Asphyxiation Hijinx
« on: October 12, 2007, 08:37:31 PM »
It appears that a crafty sort can abuse larger hostile hitboxes with Aquiha's lovely Arc Drive and get a grab where none is possible.  The first one I noticed was Sion's whip, which can reach half the screen.  Timed properly, an AD can snatch Sion by the whip.  :teach:

So what other unusual hitboxes can be abused in this manner?

Akiha's Tea Room / On tactfully dealing with superiors
« on: October 08, 2007, 04:20:54 AM »
I'm quickly reaching my wit's end with my current supervisor out here, and am in need of some advice from anyone with a bit more tact than myself.

The supervisor in question is not in my career field, radio electronics maintenance.  They are a computer operator with positively no idea of how a maintenance workcenter is run, and all my efforts to illustrate this point to them have been disregarded.

The aforementioned keeps making mistakes and leading us into pitfalls that a first-year tech would consider folly, and I'm tired of cleaning up the mess.  Anyone have experience with this kind of situation?

(Blah, blah, don't bring your real life problems here scrubass, etc.  I know, I'm sorry, just click the X up there and imagine me wallowing in torment.)

Akiha's Tea Room / On shortcomings, and overcoming them.
« on: October 04, 2007, 03:22:58 AM »
I'm in desert hell, as I've made apparent numerous times, and with nothing to do but technical work and combo practice, I'm beginning to run up facefirst against several of my bad habits and technical failings.  What I'm wondering is what kinds of stumbling blocks have you had as you progressed to your current level, and what did you do to overcome them?

Currently:

IADs, lots of practice after switching to an arcade stick.
TK moves, learning the input mechanics (repetetive practice was fruitless until I realized SJ TKs had been disabled in B2.)

Now I have to contend with my lopsided right-side play (can't 421 consistently to save my life.)
