FINAL ROUND XIV March 11-13, 2011 Atlanta, Ga.

Friday, March 11, 2011 - Sunday, March 13, 2011

Location Hilton Atlanta Airport
1031 Virginia Avenue
Atlanta, GA

It's on once again people to bring to you the 14th installment of the longest running Fighting game tournament on the east coast! That's right folks Final Round is back for another year and this year we are going to make this an event you won't want to miss. We are moving to a new location for FR14. (i'm sorry justin Wong there's no tofu house near the new location) The Hilton Ballroom is a serious upgrade from the old hotel ballroom.

We have a EMS member "Scott Popular" aka "Negro Install" running a japanese ranbat tournament called FinalRoundBats and the winner of the finalroundbats in SSF4 will represent Japan at FR14. Great players like tokido and mago are recent winners of finalroundbats and I can't wait to see who comes to FR14.

There's are only 4 games (out of 8) that are comfirmed.

Tekken6
Super StreetFighter 4
BlazeBlu:CS
MeltyBlood:AA

FR2011 will not have more than 8 official games played this year. That doesn't mean there won't be a slight chance for unofficial games at FR14, but most likely only team tournaments will be added outside of the 8 official games. All team tournaments and unofficial tournaments will only happen on FRIDAY!

This year we are very excited to have TEAM SPOOKY as the our streaming host for FR14. The quality and production of their streams are well known throughout the FGC and now they will be broadcasting FR14 for all of the stream monsters! Get hyped!!!!!!!!!

Here's a trailer 1st FR14

You heard the man who said MBAA is the new Mahvel. Get hype!

Interest check thread until I see more interest from out of state players and then I'll plan on exact dates but for now...

Dates: August 13th - 15th
Location: Raleigh NC Residence Inn by Marriott Raleigh Midtown 1000 Navaho Drive Raleigh, North Carolina 27609 USA
Entry Fee: $10 to help pay for the suite + bring your own money for food/alcohol/whatever

Plans for the weekend? Party, get trashed, and play Melty Blood (or other fighters)...in a 2-story suite. This isn't a tournament per se, but I'm inviting anyone and everyone who wants to come for my 21st B-Day hotel party. I always wanted to do one of these and what better way than to do it with the MB community? Now seeing as this is my 21st b-day I, along with everyone else who plans on showing up do plan on drinking so please...bring something nice for everyone. If there's anyone who planning on coming to this from out of state ( :V ) and if you're flying the hotel is about 20 minutes away from the airport so I can help arrange rides, but I don't want to make like 5 separate trips to the airport so if possible try and shuttle your way here. Seeing as though there is no direct shuttle I'll have no choice but to arrange rides for people flying out of state ( :V ) for this

As far as games goes of course there will be MBAA,  but most likely other games will be up and if you want to play random drunken poverty, please provide laptops. As far as rules goes...as long as you bathe and act like you would at any other tournament/gathering there's not much else to add.

Also, if you plan on showing up PLEASE POST OR PM ME!

So umm...yeah let's hope a bunch people show interest and decide to show up since these types of gatherings tend to be very fun, even if the games leave something to be desired you at least get to hang out and meet new people.

Midwest Championships 2010 - Chicago, IL - May 8-9 - 1st SSF4 Major - Evo Qualifier
UPDATE - MWC has just been announced as an Evo qualifier. The top two players from all six Evo featured games will get seeds into pools at Evolution 2010! Preferential pool placement can keep you from running into other powerful players too early. More exciting announcements about MWC will be coming weekly!

I know a lot of you were starting to wonder why there had not been an announcement about the legendary Midwest Championships for 2010. The short answer is that MWC is in my hands this year, and we are saying goodbye to Nickel City. Its been a good run there, but consoles are the home of competitive fighting games now, and its time to move forward. MWC is back in 2010, directed by Keits (with Nives as assistant-director), and its going to prove the old axiom this May.

Where: Crowne Plaza Hotel CHICAGO-NORTHBROOK. You can book your room by calling (847)298-2525 or 1-800-2CROWNE, or use the MWC Reservation website.

The address is:
2875 NORTH MILWAUKEE AVENUE
NORTHBROOK, IL 60062 UNITED STATES

When: May 8th and May 9th, 2010. Registration starts Friday night, or Saturday morning at 10am. Tournaments kickoff is at 12 noon Saturday and we close at 2am. Sunday we begin at 11am.

Hotel Rooms: I am super stoked to offer you guys rooms at the event for $69/night! Every room in the hotel, be it listed as having two beds or one, actually has two beds in it. (The single bed rooms have a sofa with a fold out bed in it.) The rooms have LCD televisions from LG that you are welcome to plug your game systems into (via RCA). Anyone who knows me knows I am one of the pickiest about monitor lag, and these TVs lag only a frame or two. They are great and I played TvC on one 60 games last night.

You can book your room by calling (847)298-2525 or 1-800-2CROWNE, or use the MWC Reservation website. The website is the best way to ensure you get the group rate. If you call, be sure to say you are in the Midwest Championships Group to ensure you get the special room rate and to ensure your rooms count toward the event total. The deadline to reserve your room is 4/23/2010. Even if you are local to the Chicago area, at this price, you should consider staying in the hotel Saturday night, as the tournament will run until 2am, and start again in the morning.

If you accidentally reserve a room without mentioning Midwest Championships, or if you use a Crowne prefered/frequent program to save money, please contact me ASAP via PM so I can make sure your room is added to our block.

Airport and Hotel Travel: Our venue is 9 miles up 294 from O'hare International Airport. A cab ride to the venue is about 27 dollars, so try to split, or offer someone at the event with a car half of that to come get you (its a pretty short drive).

Registration: Feel free to preregister in this thread by listing your gamer handle, real name, location, and the games you wish to enter, and please let me know if you personally reserve a room and for which nights. You do not need to let me know if you are splitting a room with someone else who paid.

All formal registration will be taken at the door. Every player, no matter how many tournaments they wish to enter, will pay the one-time Venue Fee of 20 dollars. You will also pay for every tournament you wish to enter, and their prices will be listed below in the Gamelist. If you wish to play casuals, meaning you are there to play games but not enter any tournaments, your Venue fee will be the 'casuals only' fee of 10 dollars.

All main and side tournaments will be run by MWC staff. To be clear, if you are playing a video game in the ballroom, casual or tournament, you need to have paid the venue fee. Spectating is, as always, free.

Late Registration notes - If you are going to be late to enter a tournament, please call a friend at the venue and have them pay to enter you, and then try to make it in before your match gets called. If you miss you match, you will be sent to the losers bracket, and if you miss that match you will be eliminated. If you do not get registered by the tournament start time, and believe me when I say we will be starting on time... you can still be entered into any Bye position on the bracket that sits in Winners1 or Losers1 rounds. If those rounds complete, no more late entries will be accepted. Please do not be late, or try to make an arangement to have a friend register you. We will be taking registrations Friday night before the event if you wish to give yourself more time Saturday morning for breakfast, practice, or sleep.

Equipment Discount: If you bring a TV or Game System and we decide to use it, and you are able to leave it for the full duration of the event, you will recieve a 5 dollar refund from your venue fee when the event closes on Sunday. Please bring your equipment out to help this tournament run smoothly. We need CRT televisions, Evo monitors, and PS3s more than anything, though a few PS2s and Wiis will be welcome as well. We would also love you long time + happy ending if you brought extra power strips and extension cords. Please label your stuff! We need copies of all the games, too, though there is no rebate. Do your part to help this event be a major success.

Prizes: After paying your venue fee, you pay to enter each tournament you wish to compete in. The full amount paid for each game goes into that game's "Entry Pot", and will be paid out to the top 3 placers in that game in the amounts of 70%/20%/10%. News on possible Pot Bonuses and bonus prizes is coming soon, stay tuned!

Venue features: The ballroom we will be using is the "Chicago" ballroom, and measures 2,596 Sq/ft. The hotel will be setting up a cash consession stand IN the ballroom, and will be selling very reasonably priced stadium-style eats (hotdogs, sodas, etc). On top of this, if you walk 6 feet across the hall from our ballroom, you will be inside a full Bar, so you can get your drink on if you are of-age (and you are welcome to bring your drinks back into the ballroom, so long as you dont share with minors! If you do this you will be kicked out of the venue.) The hotel has a full restauraunt as well that serves a breakfast buffet, and if you paid the venue fee for MWC, you will be able to get a discount at the restaurant with our group rate.

Method: I'm pleased to announce that we will be using Tonamento to run MWC. That means you will be able to get text message alerts when your matches are up, so if you have a cell phone and a data plan, thats good on you! Tonamento also allows me run many different tournament games at once, so when the schedule is published, dont be surprised to see many of the games starting at the same time. Tonamento allows both tournament players and fans at home to follow the brackets live and view them anytime online. The hotel has free WiFi that you are welcome to use to check on the brackets at any time.

Sponsors: We are pleased to announce that GPX Gaming will be coming out to sponsor MWC by donating a lot of equipment! These guys are great and have some great stuff, so look forward to it!

AreaXIII has just signed on to donate a load of CRT televisions as well, so huge thanks to DeadXIII for doing that for us. Be sure to show your continuing support to him.

Live Stream: An announcement on the details of our live stream is coming soon. We have wired internet to ensure a smooth stream, and might have some real professionals coming in too. Stay tuned!

Gamelist: These games will run no matter what. The Schedule for when these games will start will be released later. Please plan on staying the full duration of both tournament days if possible so you dont miss any action.

RULES:

General - Your behavior at MWC is important. While we want everyone to be excited and "hype", no phsyical violence of any kind will be tolerated. You will not be warned at all. If you hit anyone or anything, or make any threats, you will be ejected from the event and banned from future events. Its just that simple. We also ask that you maintain a respectable perimeter around our live-stream staff and our director's pit. We have a lot of work to do so that you have a smooth event to enjoy, and we'd really appreciate it if you avoid crowding in on us.

Aside from that, you need to know that a "Set" or "Match" consists of 2/3 or 3/5 "Games", which consist of 2/3 or 3/5 "Rounds". Every tournament will be double elimination format, meaning you have to lose two Sets to be eliminated. The number of Games in a set, and Rounds in a game will vary by software title.

This event is a "Bring your own Controller" event. Joysticks and/or gamepads will not be supplied. With the exception of the Wii software titles, wireless controllers are explicitly banned from this event. If you have a PS3 controller that is wireless, you must plug it in via USB cable while playing, and turn the controller off in the PS3 menu as soon as you disconnect your controller after the Set ends. Borrowing a controller/joystick from someone, or loaning yours out, is not a valid excuse to delay your match. No turbo or macro functions are allowed on your controllers. If you are caught using turbo or macros, you will be disqualified on the spot. Button mapping using the in-game menu is, however, allowed.

If your controller malfunctions, you must call a stop to the match right away and call for a judge to inspect your controller before you touch it again. If the judge finds your malfunction to be real, your match will be delayed so you can find a replacement controller and then replayed reasonably from the last "Game" won as soon as possible. If the judge finds your controller is working fine, you will be given a loss on the spot, no matter how many rounds/games were won/lost. If you wait to complain your controller was not working until after a round/game/set, nothing will be done to help you. Call for it as soon as it happens.

When your name is called for a match, you will have 2 minutes to get to your station to play, or you will face disqualification. If you need to leave the room before you are eliminated from the tournaments to get food or so to the bathroom for more than a minute or two, please notify the director's table before you leave and when you return. If you are placed "On-Deck" on a station, you and your opponent need to stay near the station until it opens up so you can play your match.

If you win a match at MWC, it is your responsibility to report your win to the director's pit. If you fail to do so, you may be given a loss even though you won, as the director has no way of knowing. You will be able to check the brackets at any time, in real time, online through the Tonamento.com system. If you notice any errors, like a loss posted where you won, please alert the director's pit ASAP.

No outside food or drink is allowed in the ballroom what-so-ever. Food/Drink purchased from the hotel's concession stand, bar, or restaurant is okay to have in the ballroom.

No pausing the games at any time is permitted. If you pause the game, you will be given a loss for that round, and your opponent will be allowed to beat your character up to get the game to roll over to the next round, even if this builds him meter. Tough luck, you shouldnt have paused the game. If you pause during an animation that would have killed the opponent, the "Imminent Defeat" rule from Evo will trigger, and you will still get your win. Pausing including hitting a 'home' button.

In all games, the winner of a game within a set must keep his character, and the loser may switch. Players will select their initial characters in a reasonable amount of time. If either player wishes, he can call for a judge to assist with double blind selection, in which the requestor will whisper his choices to the judge, and then his opponent will choose their characters. The judge will enforce the requestor chooses whom he said he would, to be sure neither player saw who his opponent was choosing first.

Thanks to everyone for making it out. Hope everyone had a good time. Thank you to everyone who helped out as always, and a big congrats to Nick for taking me out. Things wouldn't of gone so late but we had some people stuck in some games, though I liked the fact that a ton of people stayed around to watch finals with it being so late. Good to see a lot of new faces again too. If anyone wants full results for whatever, please let me know.

There were some epic matches all over the place. I know we have some videos out there, so if you recorded something, please post up.

New thread will be up soon. Good shit!

Arcade UFO and Smoke 'n O's present . . .
Arcadia UFO 2009 - The First fubarcade Major
April 17-19 2009

Greetings!

It is with great honor that we will be presenting a new annual tournament series in Texas with the hardcore fighting game community in mind. While most tournament series in the U.S. now focus on "console" with an "arcade" afterthought, this tournament will be especially for those players that prefer to play in a head-to-head Japanese arcade environment. However, that doesn't mean that there won't be a place for console fighting gamers. Read on!

What about SBO?!
While this line-up is incidentally very similar to SBO's line-up, this tournament is not affiliated with SBO, Arcadia, or Enterbrain in any way. In other words, this is not a "qualify for SBO" event, and if there is one, it would be held at a later date.

What about that "other" tournament in Texas?
We're not competing with other events; we're all in it together, after all. This was the best time to hold a "major" with the plethora of other tournaments popping up in 2009, and we made sure to schedule it for a separate weekend from the other Texas tournament. In fact, we encourage you to come to both if you can--they're only a week apart!

Date:
April 17-19, 2009

Details and BYOC Area
For those haven't seen Arcade UFO yet, it is not a big place. Therefore, we are planning this event with the following main goals in mind:

- As little overcrowding as possible
- Running one game at a time whenever possible
- Finishing promptly (10pm-ish) to give everyone a chance to go out or play more casuals at night
- To have as much fun as possible!

We are going to try to have a TV or projector screen set up outside to see some of the action to encourage viewers to use the patio. We're also partnering with Smoke 'N O's, a hookah cafe right next-door. Smoke 'n O's will have a BYOC area set up for players to bring consoles/TVs, and everyone will be welcome in the venue for the entire weekend to play free casual games. Arcade UFO's games will still take coins like normal, but will be on Free Play / Event Mode for tournament matches. If the players are split between both venues, along with Arcade UFO's patio, we should have just enough space.

Of course, all matches in the Top 4 or Top 8 of each tournament will be recorded via direct-feed and uploaded to the glorious Internet. There might be a DVD or something, I don't know yet.

!!IMPORTANT!! BYOC AREA HOURS will be approximately 10AM (when events begin) to 9:00PM only. Smoke 'N O's has requested that we end BYOC at 9PM sharp nightly in order to accommodate their business and regular customers. Arcade UFO will be open until 4:00AM Friday/Saturday night and 2:00AM Sunday night as normal.

-------------
Arcade UFO is located about 10 minutes away (by foot) from the University of Texas, and is nestled in a small shopping center in between a largely student-populated residential area.

Austin is a GREAT city, plus we should be in "perfect weather mode" in April (not too hot yet). The nightlife here is popping. Arcade UFO is in central Austin, and there's a bus stop right in front that can take you downtown which is lined with bars and clubs, if that's your thing. There are some more low-key (but popular) alcohol/coffee spots within walking distance of the venue.

==========================================================================================================

Ok with that out of the way, I finally got a response from Fubarduck (through Pfhor) and he is allowing us to run a MBAA Ver.A unofficial tournament although I'm pretty sure he told you guys the news on IRC yesterday. As you know the cabinet WILL NOT BE ON EVENT MODE DUE TO THIS BEING UNOFFICIAL SO IT WILL BE PAY PER PLAY ($.50) and as far as the format goes I want people who are going to make the decision of having it 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3. The tournament itself will be ran on Sunday so it will give people who haven't played the game two days of practice (Unless you're NYC or Austin  :P ) So with that out of the way...

Melty Blood Actress Again Ver.A
$5 entry fee per player (If players want it raised higher I'll raise it to $10)
System: Head-to-Head cabinets
Date: April 19, 2009/Time: 10:00 PM
Format: TBA

This will most definately be the first major MBAA tournament so lets kick it off really strong and get HYPE!

SAVE YO QUARTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Ciel / NAM (Neutral Air Movement) and how does this benefit Ciel
« on: September 06, 2008, 06:18:53 PM »
Ok first I'll explain NAM, NAM (Neutral Air Movement) is just that. Moving in the air while in a neutral jump position and you do this by jumping straight up and pushing 4 or 6 depending on whether you want to go left or right. Now how does this benefit Ciel? Two ways: Mid-screen and Corner. First I will explain corner. Now some of you may know this already, but to those who don't, Ciel has the side glitch regardless if she's on 1p or 2p side (Check the video I linked in the Ciel thread) anyways, using this technique you can choose to cross-up or not. You can delay it to make it less subtle obviously. The best way to apply this is doing J.B since it already crosses up to begin with making them guess not only if you're gonna cross up yourself, but also if you're gonna use J.B or J.C whiff to go for a low.

Now to explain mid-screen: Ok now Ciel already has a 4 way mixup which can get pretty predictable at high level play. Now what better way to make that 4-way LESS predictable by applying NAM? Easy, sacrifice a jump cancel, dash in front of them and when you get right on top of them jump straight up and push either 4 or 6 depending if you want to cross up, landing farther away from them (Using j.236C for the followup) OR push NOTHING and let the game decide where you will land. Also the same rules apply for the corner if you're gonna use J.B instead of J.C.
