When's Melty on Steam?

just my 2¢:
  • The usual A+B macro for 1-button dashing.
  • Two additional buttons (fn1 & fn2) just for menu navigation is an overkill. We would be better off without them.
FN1 and FN2 aren't used for menu navigation.  They have their purpose in training mode for swapping manual control to your dummy and resetting positions.

The two button settings under Start:
Confirm [決定]
Cancel [キャンセル]
can be set to any of your keys, used or unused.

Check your bindings.

I may be the only one who actually full screens this game once in a while, so I'm not sure if this is an issue only affecting me, but screen tearing needs to be fixed.  It's odd however, because the game seems to be taking the steps to avoid this, such as limiting frames per second, reading my monitor's refresh rate...

I've found that screen tearing is observable in many arcade match videos as well.

3
Note: the game is just being included in the Limited Edition Bundle as a bonus.  The possibility that they're making an absolutely retarded move to have distributions end with the limited editions is extremely low.

Let's see... what can I pitch in that's not already sitting in its own topic on this board...
HEAT mode regenerates life and gives you access to ARC DRIVES which are the game's supers
BLOOD HEAT mode regenerates life, and give you access to ANOTHER ARC DRIVES and LAST ARCS which are stronger, more powerful supers.
...

All 3 of these modes allow you to burst on the ground or in the air.
Only in MAX mode and Half Moon's HEAT, can you Circuit Spark.  HEAT and BLOOD HEAT will also reset "Guard Quality" back to 100% instantaneously (Throw Breaking will also do this).
F-Moon's Circuit Charging also gradually re-establishes "Guard Quality" back to 100%.
Guard Gauge refills automatically after getting hit (damaging) or after 7 seconds after blocking.  Guard Break lasts for around 1"20 seconds.

Very basic and probably not worth mentioning but it's not in every fighting game:
When falling after 8 (vertical jump), 4 or 6 will influence your falling direction correspondingly.

C/F-Moon's Shield can be held for 65 frames (roughly 1 second).  Shielding is free for the first 5 frames held but will start consuming meter until the 65th frame.
C-Moon's Shield will consume a max of 12.0% after 1 second, F-Moon's Shield will consume a max of 22.5% after 1 second.
Rates are then roughly 0.20% per frame for C, and roughly 0.38% per frame for F.

I also updated my post on the Status Display option in Training Mode, although its usefulness might only last for as long as the first few moments with a character, you can now classify situations for which Instant Heat is available.

Circuit Break is a condition where the usage of (Another) Arc Drives/EX-moves is restricted, the normal Magic Circuit hidden and the displayed meter representing the time remaining until Circuit Break expires.  The afflicted character will not be brought out of MAX/HEAT/BLOOD HEAT however, and Shield can still be held given the (now hidden) Magic Circuit is greater than 0.0%.  An example to illustrate this is if a character in "Circuit Broken BLOOD HEAT" EX-Shields an attack, they will successfully activate their Last Arc.  Another example would be if a C-Moon character Circuit Broken at 100.0% holds his/her Shield once for the full 65 frames.  After recovering from being Circuit Broken, the character would be at 88.0%.

Edit: Added Throw Break's effect on Guard Quality, info on Circuit Break

So who's been anticipating the newest portable Phantasy Star?

It seems like quite a lot is expected from this game, as they've brought in so much tie-ins to drive the game.  Things like PSO content, Fanta, Pizza Hut, Sony Cat Toro and Kuro, and now... Plug Suits, Hatsune Miku as well as... Fate/Stay Night's very own Saber and Archer.  Dragon SAKAI is hyping up the game quite a bit as well.

Now... where's my Mecha CAST-Hisui?

Ciel's Tech Support / MBAA Display Adjusting
« on: October 09, 2009, 09:48:43 PM »
So, I picked up some AV Component cables a while ago so I can get quality progressive scan modez, but after switching I get a display that has shifted greatly into the top part of my TV.  So the obvious solution would have been to adjust the display using options... but, unlike all of my other games (NTSC-J and NTSC-U/CAN) that actually move the display around the available TV range, MBAA seems to move only the picture in the existing display window.  Hence, not fixing my display issue very well at all.  I luckily can still use interlace mode at the very least, losing 4-6 pixels or something insignificant up top.

Is this issue unique to me or is there something else I'm missing?

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Re: Training Mode Inputs COLORS!
« on: September 14, 2009, 03:52:00 PM »
From the manual...
█ Black - Free Action
Red - Cannot Cancel
Green - Cancelable on HIT (Damaging, Guard, Shield included)
Blue - Ordinarily Cancelable on anything
Yellow - Cancelable on a Damaging HIT

Orange
On the right side during normals: Jump Cancel
On the right side during specials: EX Cancelable

Notes:
  • "Damaging HIT" means a hit that deals damage, chip damage not included.
  • Instant Heat is available for all colours (provided that conditions are met) except Black, Red, and Blue.
  • The status bar will NOT tell you if your special has an extension to be canceled into. (Rekkas, Black Keys, etc)
  • Sometimes the status bar is split into two, denoting normal and special properties in a move.
    [Normal][Special]

Here are some examples to help identify the properties:
F/H-Kouma's 6c:
████████████████ means:
Given that you landed a damaging HIT [Yellow], you may only Jump Cancel, and given that you HIT [Green], you may also cancel into a Special/EX Special. Instant Heat available if [Yellow] or [Green] is satisfied.

H-Moon's 5A6AA (Last A):
████████████████ means:
Given that [Yellow] is satisfied, you may cancel into a normal, a move of higher hierarchy(Special/EX), or Jump Cancel. Satisfying Special's [Green] yields the same effect above.(cancel into Special/EX)

C/F/H-Nanaya's 623B (Still on the ground):
████████████████ means:
EX cancelable given any condition, Instant Heat is available because of it!

F-Nanaya's 623BB:
████████████████ means:
Given [Yellow], only Jump Cancel is available, Special side's [Red] indicates Special/EX uncancelable. Instant Heat available if [Yellow] is satisfied.

F-Miyako's 421B (On HIT, whiffing gives a status bar of [Red]):
████████████████ means:
Given [Blue], only Jump Cancel is available, but because of [Blue] you cannot Instant Heat!

Edit: Added more info + examples

41236c2 Arc Drive Extension can only be blocked low and becomes active faster, but you move lower to the ground, the trailing after image is gone and lower damage.

I've been, at first, trying to work it into mixups but it still yells its presence every time I use it.  The flash, the pose, the slow-mo, and the identifiable visuals of BLOCK LOW MAN all contribute to uselessness.  Maybe if 41236c could only be blocked high.....

Shiki Ryougi / Re: Last Arc Glitch?
« on: August 23, 2009, 11:02:55 PM »
Considering that this only works if you land it while they still have ~50% left.
It doesn't; regardless of meter remaining, as long as you are in (Blood) Heat Activation, it will kill you.  As for intention... I'm pretty sure heat giving you a black bar is working as intended.

My guess is that just like Tohno's LA, it does 11k red damage. But unlike every other attacks in the game, it can set the red bar lower than the yellow bar.
Yeah not many attacks do VS Damage greater than HP Damage, but generally all attacks seem to check if VS Value<HP, and if true it makes VS Value=HP. (Even when blocked)
Ryougi's LA is most likely missing this VS Value correction and is therefore causing this bug/glitch with conjunction to how Heat Activation works.

Shiki Ryougi / Re: Last Arc Glitch?
« on: August 23, 2009, 03:17:10 PM »
If you LA someone who is in Heat or Blood Heat, they go to 0 health.
This should be an instant kill if you have No Recovery on... right?

I did this again with Attack Display on...
Damage 7000
VS Damage 15149

Ryougi's Arc Drives also has VS Damage exceeding Damage, but does not have the same effect on Heat.

Shiki Ryougi / Re: Last Arc Glitch?
« on: August 23, 2009, 03:03:34 AM »
By reducing health to 0, yes I mean blackbarring, as for someone to die a definite strike must occur; ie how heirro kills on the last hit.

I'm guessing Heat checks if HP>=RedValue to know when to finalize the regen loop by making HP=RedValue to prevent overspill.   Ryougi's last arc was most likely meant to just cut all recovery potential (like Zero Lancer) but the programmer probably thought RedValue=0 was sufficient.

Shiki Ryougi / Last Arc Glitch?
« on: August 23, 2009, 12:55:23 AM »
I found something interesting... Ryougi's last arc seems to do something strange to the red damage count(this is the VS Damage value), because after it hits, Heating/Blood Heating, directly after, reduces your health down to 0.  It is an instant kill on anyone who is in Heat/Blood Heat when the last arc actually does damage.  Blocking/getting hit by any other attack however, sets the red health back from whatever negatives back to its rightful value, preventing heat from draining your health.  While most people wouldn't heat for health with no available gain but wake-up heating for momentum, when applicable, will just have to wait after this lands on you.

It sucks if there's a blue moon in the sky and you're somehow playing Half Moon with 199% Magic Circuit and EX-SHIELD -> Last Arc, cause you're heatin' after and if your opponent ain't hitting you in the next moments your health is going down.

EDIT: Increased/Reduced legibility, I wish I could record this.

Oh god, my play-asia order status just changed from "Order recieved" to "Preparing order" :prinny:
Mine changed to that yesterday, serious bliss going on.

15
Taking a quick glance at it...
Before the release of MBAA PS2 ver, they are going to be running location demos/tests at these various shops at the date and time listed.  Mementos and Ryougi Shiki, Tohno Akiha's command list card will be distributed/prepared.

The other is an update on shop locations.

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Re: What system mechanic is this?
« on: July 10, 2009, 07:06:17 PM »
5bb/5b[b] could be considered an "a" attack, but its missing one property of "a" attacks, which is canceling into itself or another "a" attack regardless of hit or whiff.

Examples were from AC, so I'm guessing AC mechanics.

Another case to investigate would be this combo using Akiha

xx2c5c *enemy wallslam* IAD jc land jbc djbc airthrow

Based on what's said in here, why can this happen? Doesn't that IAD count as a ground jump?
I only see one ground jump cancel (IAD) in that string, j.c is already canceled by landing, it is a free jump from there.

So, to recap:
-One ground to air jump cancel is allowed in a combo
-Some moves have special properties to allow for a special jump cancel
-You can ground jump as much as you'd like in a combo as long as the preceding animation completes itself

Don't think I've seen that Ciel throw before. (the one he abuses to put maids in the air) What's the command for it?
4b/{b} -> 236b

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Re: What system mechanic is this?

This is just a limiter for ground jump cancels, you can't do more than one, ground to air, jump cancel.  For example if you were to transcribe the string to text, and you separate the two types of jump cancels to ground and aerial, gJC must not appear more than once.

Another string for Nanaya that demonstrates this is (CH)5c gJC->IAD j.b 2b5c5bb 22c 9 j.bc aJC j.bc airthrow.
Note that, even if you used 2a 5a 22c to do a free action jump, this does not reset the ability to re-ground jump cancel.  Until "N Hits!" disappears, valid or invalid hits regardless, the limiter will still apply.

As for Shiki's 5bb(5a/2a) whiff, you'll notice its special that it is not counted as a reverse beat or is it penalized.  Its just the exception, and part of 5bb properties.

The lists were made by different people anyway right, says further on?  The point that while you disregard tier lists, brought up only that specific one to judge F-Nanaya and had intriguing reasons... with apparently anyway.  But damn, this the Warui thread.  More support/faith/positive thoughts(?) for the lolicon under a full moon.  :V

Yay, WARUI NE...!
I'm so sad that F-Nanaya is apparently the lowest tier of all the Nanayas.
o rly? From MBAA Tiers* thread:
Nanaya C > F > H

I guess he's lower tier because of damage output and the whole reverse beat thing, as well as not being able to end blockstrings with 236A.
Oh man there's so much emphasis on C-Nanaya's 236A, like the F-Tohno comparison, what a crappy trademark IMO.  I don't see why he needs to end blockstrings in boring* 236A... in any style.  H can't do so with the same benefits either, and for it to be a replacement for F's rekka would be terrible.  If anything that Nanaya seems to have worked up to be his trademark, is that his 'stupid obvious shit' will always* work.

F-Nanaya made his mark to be my main after watching a few Nico videos with him beasting and two messages of "SHIELD THAT SHIT" tickered across the screen. :mystery:

btw, I just want Kiri voice by Hikaru Midorikawa <3
... MAJOR AGREE. lulz

Do you have a source stating that Zepia HIMSELF is the phenomenon and not a separate curse called "TATARI"?
The original would be the best source but I don't have it anymore.  But a more ready, trustworthy source, would be... The Moonlit World.
Listing the important parts:
  • Quote from: The Moonlit World
His ability is that he already lost his body long ago and became a phenomenon known as Tatari (trick of ghosts/God)
  • Quote from: The Moonlit World
Using Marble Phantasm, Arcueid summons the Red moon that originally turned Wallachia into a phenomenon and turns him back to a vampire.

Source:http://www2.ocn.ne.jp/~typemoon/tsukihime/characters.htm under Wallachia

The reason that I wanted TATARI Satsjujinki was that someone stated (accurately) that the "real" Satsjujinki would be broken as all hell. And since the only thing that would fear Satsujinki enough to materialize him instead of something else like red arc or Nero would be the TATARI curse itself, since Satsujinki is the only thing that can kill it. (Or so I think. This can of course all be total BS if im wrong about Zepia and TATARI being separate things.)
Satsujinki is too relatively unknown, still waiting for that mushroom.  But, in my opinion, TATARI's powers can envelop Shiki's and more with exception to the Mystic Eyes, an idea seemingly dropped after TATARI Nanaya never had them again.  From the way I see it, Shiki dropped using his eyes for his life, hence the bandages, and all this potential and skill he's showing is really just him.

At this point in time, Tohno Shiki's potential is just too unknown and under estimated for the DA's to care, else they'd had sent some peeps to assassinate him beforehand.  Though fast forwarding, Satsujinki was known as DEATH to the DA's, so that may materialize if they really (I hope they don't, there has to be something more creative =O) just recycle any TATARI-similar powers.  Granted, DEATH will look nothing like Shiki, and you won't be "fighting" him if you choose the protagonists.

But, rambling aside, as a fighting game, and respect to Sacchin's route where powerlevels are relatively more flat, I doubt Satsujinki would be broken if he were to appear, and he would be a chance to get some people the "Nanaya" moveset they wanted.

Now time for the brightest note
Ah, big letdown. Thought you meant he used these.

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTING STYLE.
I am rolling, imagining the fight with Kouma with those...
Kouma goes crazy because of the grease on his neck.  ;D

By Tatari, i mean the literal Curse. Not Zepia, who yes, has been dead since Melty 1 IIRC. (Arc Summoned the crimson moon to force Zepia to materialize instead of a fear aparition, and shiki point-stabbed.)
As do I with The Night of Warachia.  By the pact of Altrouge Brunstud, Zepia Eltnam was made a phenomenon using the Crimson Moon and was set to end when the Crimson Moon appears once more.  By this, Zepia = The Night of Warachia(TATARI); Zepia being dead means there's no one to become a phenomenon for requirements to continue to be met.

The temporal replacement was White Len with her bringing out rejected sides instead of fear, but Melty as of MBAA has already passed this point of which, fear materializes by curse.

This sets the stage for Sion, who is calculated to be the successor to TATARI.  But that's another story for MBAA to tell you directly about.

If not, then Satsujinki couldn't even be summoned in the first place, and this entire discussion was pointless.  :emo:
No ways bro, pointless things should be fun, since we do them all the time, I think.  Besides, why settle only for TATARI Satsujinki when you can root for having the whole honking real deal. :P

Drumsticks? :slowpoke:
At least that's what I got from the text, steel sticks, and unofficial arts.  If I recall correctly I found some by googling(lol) his name, 七夜黄理.
