Man, Boston's just too good for the Northeast thread. We're so pimp, we have our own thread.

My home is Boston, and I know a couple of people who are also near the city. I'm in college in Rochester now though, so... we'll have to schedule that stuff in advance, unless you've got a private jet or something.
Surprised to see that we actually have a scene of some sort!

Daaaamn, I haven't been around for a while.

Man, the Melty hype was insanely massive. Hell, I preferred staying in the Melty room on Teams day (really because it was cooler and less crowded than the main room, but let's just say it was because Melty is hype as hell). Singles the next day was insane, though. You really know how to draw a guy back into a game he hasn't played in well over a year.

Good games all around, and man, I've really got to step up my H-Kohaku after seeing all the scary shit pulled off with her this time around.
Good shit on everyone for Melty signups getting beaten out only by SF4 and Tekken, and beating BlazBlue. (or something like that. I've heard variations, but at worst Melty was 4th.)
...the food could have been a little bit cheaper though. That, and the internet could have not sucked. Elevators were completely badass though, I'll give Sheraton that.

H264 all the way, baby. Grab x264 (perhaps its VFW component counterpart if you want to do it from right within Vegas or whatever) and have fun. Youtube can handle it just fine, and anyone with a codec pack worth a damn on their comp can handle it.

Bemanifag here, surprised by the amount of others that have replied the same in here.
I have some platformers and shmups as well. Tetris (especially in Grand Master form) is also especially fun.

Here's one that I recently acquired.

Knytt Stories is a charming little platformer that plays pretty damn smoothly. The visuals are quite beautiful, and the music is sweet as well. It also has a ton of user-made worlds and expansions backing it.

Because that's not free anymore. Used to be free when it was in beta, but now it's under Steam.

Let me reach into my Various Gamestuffs folder.

SELECT * FROM Various_Gamestuffs WHERE price IS free;
13 rows returned.

  • BZFlag is a 3D multiplayer online tank shooting game. You have a bunch of tanks running around, and they can fire shots at each other. They can also jump (:psyduck:) and collect powerups to do all sorts of things.
  • Cave Story is a damn good platformer. Shame on you people for not mentioning it yet. Brings back memories of the days of pixels and beeping music.
  • Ether Vapor is a sweet doujin shmup. It looks pretty nice, and plays pretty nicely. Changes play orientation at times. There are vertical, horizontal, and head-on sections. There's also a nice Macross-style missile-dodging bonus bit in the 1st level.
  • Every Extend is not a shmup per se. You don't really shoot anything. Instead, you must tactically blow up your ship to cause chain reaction explosions in the things that surround you. Couldn't find the original site, so this FileFront link will have to do.
  • FLaiL, Jumper Redux, and Jumper Two are all platformers focused on jumping. They also can be quite difficult.
  • Heboris is, as you may be able to guess, a Tetris clone. Hardcore Tetris, what with its influences from Tetris the Grand Master. If I'm not mistaken, hebo0015.zip on this page is what you should download.
  • N is a platformer. You are a ninja. You must run and jump while avoiding things like rocket launchers, chaingun turrets, and little electric zappy drone things. Ragdoll physics ahoy.[/url]
  • rRootage is a shmup with a variety of modes and patterns. For example, there is a mode that simulates Ikaruga's light/dark bullet system.
  • Shiroi Danmaku-kun is, as you can guess, a shmup with a ton of bullets. The focus here is on patterns, which are made using BulletML. There are quite a number of user-made barrages included. Some are recreations of Touhou spellcards as well as boss attacks from various Cave shooters. Others are completely original.
  • Warning Forever. Guess what? This is another shmup! You start off fighting a simple boss mech-thing that you must destroy the parts of until you destroy its core. Then you fight another mech-thing that's slightly improved. The progression of improvements is affected by how you attack it. The guy who made this also has some other shmups on that page. I recommend Ray-Hound on there as well. Turrets fire at you, and you must reflect and hurl back their bullets to destroy the turrets.

Other things that were already mentioned by others include StepMania (probably my oldest game, and it still holds a place in my heart) and I Wanna Be The Guy!
If you didn't notice, a lot of these were shmups. What can I say? I found a lot of freeware shmups.

Akiha's Tea Room / Re: Downloading h.264s from NicoNico?
« on: March 22, 2008, 10:40:10 PM »
Go to nicovideon's Greasemonkey page and install nicovideon.user.js.

Now, when you go to a nico video, there'll be an orange icon toward the top of the page that says "FLV DL". Hit that. In my experience with H264s, it won't ask you to download like normally. Instead, Quicktime plugin will take over and try to load (should say video/mp4 Object in the title bar). Endure the browser-rape as it tries to load (and in most cases, fail and end up showing a ?). Once it finally does that (or shows the ?), hit Ctrl+S and save your video with .mp4 extension.

Enjoy!

Unless you're Akagi. He has black magic.  He played for a week and was good..... with no prior mahjong experience. *shudders*  I asked him why. He said he listened to a guy tell him how to play...........

Grammar fixed and refocused.

I started using computers when I was like 6 or 7.
I screwed around with C when I was 8 (but this was pretty much me copying stuff from a book and watching things fly across the screen) which might explain why I'm gdlk in my comp sci class this year.
I have a natural inclination to things that involve logical reasoning.
I seem to be damn smart compared to the people around me.
I'm a very simple person.

On nico of all places?

I get pissed when I somehow manage to incorrectly block everything through a match.

Really quite pathetic on my part.

What about that 3.DB? Try dashing through that.

Also, can't it be said that you can dash through most of almost every character's arsenal?

Laziness, or overkill?

It's not really being lazy if the time saved by setting up this shortcut is greatly overshadowed by the time and effort required to devise the shortcut in the first place.

I know MBcaster skips the options screen.

Probably just jumps into a point in the code after the options screen.

You did what with her?

Akiha's Tea Room / Re: IaMP - Immaterial and Missing Power

Let me drop a little math on you guys.

Let p = max/potential skill of player.
Let i = player's skill in IaMP.
Let m = player's skill in MBAC.

p = i + m

Thus, the better you are at one game, the worse you are at the other.

That said, I play Patch and Yukari. I suck though.
