Tournament Results / EVO 2014 anime side tournament results
« on: July 14, 2014, 10:42:36 PM »
Huge thanks to everyone who participated in any of 5 tournaments. Frankly, I thought there would be like 20 people max so seeing 50 people for Melty Blood and 43 people for LOVE MAX!!!!! went beyond all expectations. Also big shoutouts to everyone who stood up to watch the stream. I know it was starting to get late for many of you on the East Coast when Top 8 rolled around.

Anyways to the results (that I can remember of the top):

Chaos Code (20 entries)
1. BE Abegen (Bravo)
2. HF Blade (Cerberus)
3. DBlank (MG Hikaru)

Aquapazza (25 entries)
1. Mabushin (Chizuru)
2. Eh-Sama (Chizuru)
3. KOG (Tamaki, DQ'd himself during top 4 due to qualifying into top 32 SF4)
4. Lark (Oboro)

Melty Blood (50 entries)
1. Lord Knight (Kohaku)
2. HF Blade (Ciel)
3. Kusanagi (Aoko)

JoJos All-Star Battle (20-something entries)
1. SPIN KING (Kars)
2. White Boy Willy (Vanilla Ice)
3. ZepTech
4. SaikyoStyle

Arcana Heart 3 LOVE MAX!!!!! (43 entries)
1. Inuchiyo (Dorothy)
2. Mabusin (Mei-Fang)
3. Bill (Saki)
4. Tsukibaka (Random ass fools)

My biggest concern was with scheduling five games at once. Splitting it across two days will help, but that introduces its own issues. The biggest one being the fact that both DJCream and myself are involved in running the BBCP tournament at Evo, so neither of us will be available. I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of running the tournaments on the day BB but I'm not sure how well five games at once would work.

Who is going to be involved in securing space on both days? The BYOC area when the venue hall opens is typically a madhouse.

I'm wondering if any of the publishers or developers would be willing to kick something in. I kind of doubt it, but it's worth exploring. That and if Aksys is there pushing product it's a near-lock they'll be demoing AH3:LM at Evo. You might also want to get in touch with MrWizard and see if they would proive anything -- again, probably not but I do know in the past they did provide some equipment (like monitors).

One last thing: main Evo games always take precedence over side games, don't even try to mess around with this. I actually ran into this in a rather ugly way in 2012 when my SC5 and VF5:FS brackets managed to conflict. Thankfully the staff on both sides was willing to cooperate, but that's not guaranteed.

Here's what I was thinking with splitting the schedule...
1) Adding JoJo's ASB brought a concern of needing more resources (TVs/PS3s with characters unlocked) so gathering all that would be a struggle.
- I separated the games into 2 days so that each day only requires 4 TVs/PS3s with one day requiring PCs for Melty.

2) JJASB, AH3 on Blazblue day. I didn't take into account that both I and Dippy will have our hands tied with this and Numakie will be participating. I should have talked to you guys over the weekend, since you guys are the most supportive. Nonetheless, these tournaments can be handled in two ways...
- Signups and tournament extended to later in the afternoon after the initial BB pools conclude. Problem: Stuggle to secure setups. Time constraints.
- Both these tournaments moved to Sunday. Problem: People who want to fly back home on Sunday.

I can manage the first option since I'm not scheduled to judge Top 32 or whatever. Plus with the majority of BB entrants eliminated, it gives the players something to do in the afternoon. I've also thought about switching AH3 with Melty so that I would only have to snatch up 2 TVs instead of 4. Of course, that means on Non-BB day, we will need 6 stations total...

3) As for external help, I've reached out to Mr. Wizard and gotten no response back. I'll try my hand with Tony Cannon since I'm already emailing him about judging. As for Atlus/ASW, I haven't talked to a representative yet.

TL;DR I have ideas for organizing plans on BB-day, but these will not be concrete plans just yet. Please bounce around more ideas and we will commit to something by the end of the month.

3
Just stating some concerns. I'll post more as i think em up.
- Who will stream/record what?
- Will we run the brackets via Challonge, or an alternate program?
- On BBCP Day: I entered BBCP. I'll need someone else to help with the bracket/recording

- Right now, I'm not concerned about streaming/recording setup. This will become an issue once scheduling gets sorted out.
- I'm working off the assumption that internet will be limited inside the venue. Therefore, we'll be using paper brackets or TIO on a computer. I prefer using paper brackets anyways so I'll be printing out like 20 copies of a top 16/32 double elim bracket and I'll be filling stuff in accordingly.

The third point will be addressed in the next post...

4
Added JoJo's All Star Battle to the line up.
Splitting up games across 2 days.
Tentative schedule posted.

5
Post reserved, in case I need an FAQ or something.

EVO 2014 is quickly approaching and many airdash/anime games left with no representation in the official tournament lineup. This year, with the help of volunteers (and hopefully EVO staff), we can make these under appreciated games a chance to shine.

Side tournament games: Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code (PC), Arcana Hearts 3 LOVE MAX!!!!! (PS3), Chaos Code (PS3),  Aquapazza (PS3), JoJo's All-Star (PS3 USA)

ORGANIZATION:
- Ideally, 4-6 full setups will be needed to run at least two of these games at the same time. If you can volunteer for equipment (PS3/TVs and laptops), step up and let me know.
- Stream? No plans as of now for a stream. Numakie and Dippy will be providing recording equipment so at least 2 stations will be recorded. We will try to save as many Melty Blood replays.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:
- Until EVO divulges the official tournament schedule, times for these side tournaments will be undetermined. I would like to create as little conflict with pulling players from the official BlazBlue tournament.
- Until then, I will assume that BBCP will wrap up within a single day.

NON-BBCP tournament day: Aquapazza, Chaos Code, Melty Blood
- 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tournament signups - Names will be entered into the bracket after the money is paid. Please state your region (NorCal/SoCal/Vegas/EC/ect.) so the bracket makers can seed by region.
- 1 p.m. - 2 p.m., Brackets being made - Seeding done by region to reduce "Friendly Fire." Last minute registration and getting word out to players that the tournament is gonna start. Please tell TO's if you have an afternoon pool!
- 2 p.m. - END, tournament starts - DQ's will be given if matches are holding up the bracket.

BBCP tournament day: JoJo's All-Star Battle, Arcana Hearts 3 LOVE MAX!!!!!
- 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tournament signups - Names will be entered into the bracket after the money is paid. Please state your region (NorCal/SoCal/Vegas/EC/ect.) so the bracket makers can seed by region.
- 2 p.m. - 3 p.m., Brackets being made - Seeding done by region to reduce "Friendly Fire." Last minute registration and getting word out to players that the tournament is gonna start. Please tell TO's if you have an afternoon pool!
- 3 p.m. - END, tournament starts - DQ's will be given if matches are holding up the bracket.

NO ONLINE REGISTRATION:
- Please join this group and invite friends so I can gauge interest and bring enough equipment and brackets big enough to accommodate.

GENERAL RULES
- All games are $5 per player
- All tournaments are double elimination pools. All matches are best of three except grand finals, which is best of five
- All brackets will be randomly generated, seeding will be based on region.
- Cash payouts will be 70/20/10
- Arcana Heart 3 LOVE MAX!!!!!, Chaos Code, Aquapazza, JoJo's All-Star Battle on PS3
- Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code 1.07 on PC. Volunteers, please make sure this version is correct. Also please download this button config program to speed up setup: bit.ly/1iPmV6G

I'd like to fly out to BBG, but given I'm from Cali I'm going to need a lot of time to claim days off. June would be nice for me, but I can try for mid-late May.

Recently, there's been a Twitter trend to go to this Japanese website (http://shindanmaker.com/204292) and it will randomly analyze your fighting game skills. Honestly, I dunno what any of it means except for Combo. What would be the translation and would that help the dictionary a bit?

Tournament Results / Re: Final Round XV Results!
« on: March 06, 2012, 09:20:32 PM »
First I gotta say that this is the first time I've ever traveled out into the East Coast so this event has set the bar for any return visit pretty damn high.

ShinBlanka, Silent Shinobi - Y'all ran an incredible event. I've never had so much fun playing games and generally hanging out with so much people despite living on so little sleep and food. :gonk:
Dippy, Rayza, Tempered, HF, Robert - I always get nervous whenever I room up with fools I don't know personally for a tourney or convention. By the end of the weekend, I feel so relieved that you guys were accepting and completely chill with me. One of these days, I'll make a trip down to AZ just to kick it with y'all and maybe get in some more poverty.
Malik, Saika, Zeal - You guys are some real hommies on Thursday. I thought I'd be bored outta my mind waiting on Dippy to show up but y'all made it interesting despite that 3 mile journey for booze. I hope Zeal takes good care of himself and maybe if he levels up can become the next Jiyuna in terms of drunk Melty.
SK, Rei - Forever the social highlight of any tournament i've been to. Special shoutouts to Masters Fighter and its retarded hitboxes. I'm am truly scared of the AOF3 game of death because of what happened that night. NegRep shoutouts to the CapCops that I expect were chillin' on the 16th floor and Cookie for duckin' out of his drinks. Psyduck :psyduck: shoutouts to Filipino Champ walking into hype poverty then being confused as fuck
Woof, Hyperhal - GDLK pins and GDLK team. I don't give a damn if we lost 'cause we got the best trolling on the stream second to Bell v. Kusoru.
Chelsea, Garu - Good job making it out to Final Round. Y'all were a bunch of fun to hang out. It sounds like they are havin' fun in New York right about now so Komidol can tell them to have a safe journey for me.
Numakie, Brandino - It was a lot of fun hanging out with y'all on Monday. GG's on the Vampire Savior casuals in the airport.
LPT, Bill - I don't think I've ever had the chance to talk about C-WLen strats with anybody before. Its unfortunate that i didn't get to play any of y'all personally so expect a really long post about some of the mixups I've figured out in the WLen board very soon.
Coren - Sorry for taking your dollar and landing a dumbass, unpractical combo done for the stream lolz during the team tourney. You're still a cool guy and would love to challenge you (and Komidol) to Tanto Coure in the future.
Divine - GDLK conversations at the Stake and Shake. You did good on callin' out Woof's Crazy Crane game.
Shoutouts to whoever hosted the Sailor Moon/Rapeman (AKA Silent_Shinobi the anime) room. Shoutouts to #smokebomb #EXteleport #maidsports

Shoutouts to everyone else I didn't personally recognize. Even though everyone else I mentioned contributed to my experience, it is the entire melty community that showed up that made this tournament as exciting and eventful as it can be. Bell is right to say that we can't stop when we have all this momentum, so for all those who are learning please don't be afraid to call out whoever the hell you want for matches. And for all those veterans who want to move on, please don't be afraid to take some time off to teach the new generation of melty players a thing or two so that the community can continue to produce high-level play that Japan can respect.

BTW: There is a set of C-WLen vs F-Aoko replays on my laptop. Tell me who they belong to and I'll send em to you. From the color and the play of the WLen, it's Bill's.
I play color 28 (icy blue W.Len). I know I ran a hella long set of matches with HyperHal's F-Aoko but I'm not sure if those matches got recorded.

Sup guys, this is DJcream. I'm currently at the ATL airport on the way back from Final Round. If y'all want, I can swing by with a Melty setup and will be open to Melty casuals and for the brave money matches. After a weekend here, (on top of years of mb experience) I feel like I'm at a level to properly teach some general things about the game.

14
This would be my first FR. This would also be my first East Coast event. Also first time away from California under my own accord.
I'm in the same boat as Numakie. First FR and first time traveling to the East Coast.

That sounds fun, I'd be interested depending what day these go down. Is there any shot of this getting started up sometime this month? I could use some last-minute competition before going to Final Round.

Thanks Winty, I owe you one. Once I finally get a day off from work later in the week, imma try to start uploadin' some of these matches on YouTube.

18
Yo Tanto Cuore is hella good. There going to be casuals at Final Round? I want in.

19
LOL, I remembered that, but ya I'll be arriving into Atlanta thursday night.

20
Hey there team Arizona, I'm Daryl "DJcream" Bunao. I was speaking with Tone last night about finding a place to stay for Final Round and he said that you guys may have some room. Think you guys can squeeze in a relatively unknown player like myself with all y'all?

Meh Stockton doesn't have enough asains to facilitate a strong Gundam community. I've moved on to become a KOF player since this town is full of Mexicans. However, I still wanna throw down on some MBAA since French Bread decided to give W.Len more oki tools and I wanna see if some of this new crap is useful.
