Jaxx, what are your work hours?  I'd also like to play more games with you.  I have a few block strings I want to try on you - block strings that pretty much only work on Nero.

Mech-Hisui / Safe HEAT setups?
« on: February 05, 2008, 01:24:59 AM »
I've got a bad habit.  I usually Heat when I really need to.  That makes me pretty predictable.  And considering Mech-Hisui's got the lifebar that makes it more worth it to Heat at higher lifebar percent, I should be doing Heats earlier in the matches, not later.

Other than Heating after 2C (which is untechable, I think)... what are some other safe Heat setups?

Here's a random thought.  Can I Heat an opponent that's blocking Maid Rush activated by MAX?  It's ridiculous, but if he's at the last grain of health... then hey, it's worth it : p

Who in AZ is confirmed on going?  What's the driving arrangement?  Megabus Y/N?  What day are we leaving and coming back?  What time?  Estimated amount of cash to bring?

--------

Another note.  Anyone wanna come to downtown Phoenix at 6pm?  I'm going for the artwalk.  there's gonna be street vendors selling indie/artsy stuff and I just want to get some walking exercise in general.  I'm pulling Jo with me for sure - we're gonna shop.  Hopefully Chris will make it as well.

Played mailorder at PCC and got owned, scrub Ciel <----, had fun and sorry we didn't get to play like 2 weeks or so ago at the melty house as stated didn't want to wake you up lol. (I'm the asian guy with a beard and goatee).

considering that you picked up MB recently and don't really play it that often, you're good!!  keep playing, I hope to play ya again at Choco's sometime ^^  and yeah, don't be afraid to wake me up.  I'm not a grouchy person when I wake up.

I think Mailorder should get his ass over to WTX.

Most likely not going.  I don't feel I'm ready.

Although I've very tempted to go just to hang out : p  All you dudes are chill as HECK

Other Games / Wii Fighting Stick
« on: January 28, 2008, 12:00:31 PM »
Since my arcade stick was stolen at the last con and I've just bought a new Wii, should I buy the Wii HORI Fighting Stick?  It's only $50+ bucks (although I read there's supposed to be a price drop to $35).  Is there a Wii -> PS2 and/or USB converter in existence?

- Quinn will be there, but I think he's missing the GGXX and MB tournament.  Told me he was gonna make it for Melee and GNT4.

- I think Sam is going.

- Dunno if Dipstick is going, but he should.  I would love to see him at the GHIII tournament.  Shin and Rob (if he goes) will be tough contenders!

- I'm going.

I was pleased to see four new faces for MB today, especially Dipstick as one of them.

I was not pleased that I had been awake from 9AM - 6PM with no one wanting to play MB when I told myself I was gonna play MB today, then going to sleep and waking up at 10:00PM and seeing four new faces playing MB and not being able to play them, since I woke up to go to work.

Oh well, there's always tomorrow!  Or rather, today.

By the way, turns out my schedule change has a minor adjustment.  I've got my Saturday nights open now : )
Tues - Sat
12:00AM - 8:30AM

I guess Jaxx is being called out.  unfortunately, I'm going to have to agree with Multi.  and I've already indirectly done so earlier:

there was no surprise that multi and xianoir rocked everyone except choco.  no one in AZ is 50/50 to choco

The issue at hand is that Dipstick called out all of AZ (except Choco) for being slaughtered by Multi and Xianoir, when there is no shame to losing to them.  They are exceptional players - and they're being grossly underestimated.  this is where Jaxx should have just been like... "well, they were good!  ten bux says they woulda owned u harder lol"

I'm glad they stopped by.  they killed me hard, but it got me back into MB.  gave me faith in improving my game.  hate to say it, but sometimes Choco isn't the most fun to have a losing streak to (I still love him, though).  The Texans had a good attitude.  they analyzed what I was doing wrong and they'd change their playstyle to help me clean up my obvious errors - without any of the condescending talk.  and they're asian.

What kinds of things do you guys do to build interest and bring in new players?  Where do you find new players?

Have a place of your own to become a hub for gaming.  Not just MBAC, but all sorts of games.  Then you'll need to be open-minded and play a few other games as well.  Then recruit people from other games to play MBAC.  That's pretty much how it was done with the AZ scene.  V-Money and I met Choco at an anime con and he invited us to chill at his place to play games.  V-Money brought Jaxx.  I brought Kyne and Glide.  Choco met Dan through SRK's forums and invited him.  None of us started out playing MBAC.  Since there was three TVs, we had all sorts of games set up - so we played whatever.  But eventually, we all picked up MBAC.  While it's not the main game for most of us, we play it a fair amount.  Enough to care to get decent at it!

Me - from SSBM and GNT4
Glide - from SSBM (some GNT4)
Kyne - from SSBM (some GNT4)
Ted - from SSBM
Jaxx - From SCII/III
Dan - from GGXX
Q-Chu - from GGXX
Vmoney - from GGXX

After what the people from Texas did to all of you a couple of weeks ago, personal rankings is the last thing I would be worried about.

As for why I'm not down there, somehow I decided it was a good idea to become an insomniac. So now I get about 2 hours of sleep a night, if that. Ugh.

there was no surprise that multi and xianoir rocked everyone except choco.  no one in AZ is 50/50 to choco and it's because there's not enough hype to motivate people to practice enough to do so.  the whole point of the rankings is to create hype.  I personally think I'm better than Jaxx, so when I beat him and rank higher, it'll motivate him to practice more to retake his rank.  in effect, I'll practice more.  and the cycle continues.  and we'll match choco and then finally improve the skill of the AZMB scene.

and if you end up beating me, I guarantee that I will practice more.  look forward to playin ya ; )

Personally rankings don't really matter, its about what you can do when the money is on the line.

agreed.  rankings are for hype.

I don't know if NEC8 was dumped on Scott or if he requested it, but if he didn't record the videos... then I guess it's best if he passes it along to someone who's willing to start editing.

regarding Choco's "aggression", I'll defend him here.  he's actually pretty chill about the whole thing.  managed to chat with him at work.  he just has poor word choice.

where's all the China players?!  I remember someone mentioning they had a scene - since there's a few youtube vids of Chinese players.  and I mean China Chinese.  like mainlanders or something.
