It's time for Tougeki Damashii Moon (hopefully I didn't mangle the reading of that too badly).

Wait... it's about wrestling?

Huh?

Whatever.  :toot:

So apparently there are a bunch of you twits playing this "free-to-play" MMO (that's actually one of the most expensive on the market, lolz). Some of you have been playing the Japanese version, whereas others are just starting now. So if anyone wants to complain that they died 20 times to a fox or how big their e-penis is because they killed the golem in one blow or to share their recipe that gives them +9999 to everything, here you go.

Personally I'm starting this thread because I think most of the people from here ended up on a different server than I am and I'm sick of random people being completely incapable of killing anything (I would also complain about all of the shitty Touhou and other anime music getting played, but that's going to happen anywhere). I know random people usually suck but it's ten times worse in this game, where the combat actually requires you to be awake and breathing.

Akiha's Tea Room / Help Duppy Push Buttons And Win Stuff
« on: December 10, 2007, 08:02:33 PM »
So I actually want to push buttons and win, for once.

360voice is hosting a series of challenges where the player with the biggest zboz e-peen can win real stuff. Whoever gains the most gamerscore in the time frame wins the challenge.

So I set up a small challenge for Melty Bread people, and you are all welcome to sign up (and lose). If we can support a bigger challenge (for bigger prizes), we'll run that, but for now I don't even know if there are 5 eligible people. 5 people means someone walks away with a $20 gift card from amazon.com. That's more than most of you will ever win playing Melty Blood. :V

You must have a Xbox Live Gold account to sign up, unfortunately.

Visit 360voice to enter the challenge (just follow this link). The challenge code is D2N8Z26P.

I would like to thank everyone who showed up for supporting the game and my loli beating habit.

So I open it up to this forum.

The TGA ranking battles are back after a long hiatus (due to SBO and things just taking longer to get out to the middle of nowhere), with a new season of loli fighting to begin. Any series where I finish top three all kinds of messed up; let's try to fix things this time around.

Address:
Tokyo Game Action
5 Summer Dr.
Winchendon, Massachusetts 01475

Date & Time:
Saturday, November 24th, 2007

$20 dollar cover (apparently this is a three-time change)
$2 to enter most tournaments (3S is $5). For Melty Blood (and any other $2 game), winner takes all.

Melty Blood is part of the lineup here, starting at 7 PM. The tournament is run on ver.B arcade cabinets, whoop whoop.

Other games being run:

Capcom vs SNK 2
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Some Shitty Loli Fighting Game (on some shitty console port)

Rules:

-DOUBLE ELIMINATION! Best 2 out of 3.
-Winners and Losers Finals will be best 3 out of 5.
-Grand Finals will still be 3/5 (only game like this :V).
-You are not obliged to stick with the same character throughout the ENTIRE tournament. You may switch up at anytime except when you win a match. If you lost a match or your about to face a new opponent, you may choose to stick with the same character you've been using or another character.
-If you lose, you can change your team/character. Winner must stick with the same character until he loses.
-There are to be NO GAME FREEZING GLITCHES IN ANY GAME. If you do I'm going to kick your ass! (And by I, I mean Gavin) Plain and simple.

Brackets are seeded based on prior performance. The current rankings:

Wait wtf it's a new season? There are no rankings!

Players will be first split by region, then seeded randomly. Or however the hell Gavin decides to do it.

Directions:

    * From 95 North, take EXIT 6B towards 495 North.
    * From 495 N, take EXIT 29B, then that'll be Rt.2 WEST. (20-30 min drive)
    * From Rt. 2 W, take EXIT 24B, then tha'll be Rt.140 NORTH. (10-15 min drive)
    * From Rt. 140 N, keep going straight down for about 15 min.
    * Eventually you are going to run on a little bridge with a pond on your right, from there take a RIGHT onto Beech Street.
    * At the end of Beech St., take a right onto 5 Summer Dr. and you'll see our beloved Tokyo Game Action.

Sadly, they took the video equipment out of MB:AC and stuck it in CvS2. Who the hell plays CvS2? >:( Hopefully someone will bring a camcorder and record on their own.

...yeah.

The Nanaya player is Gao, who is really damn good -- probably one of the best Nanaya players in Japan currently. The R.Arc player seems to be named Bunii, whom I know nothing about.

On rereading, this analysis isn't nearly as thorough as I would like it and while it's standard for me to throw out half-finished work, I figure someone may find this useful. Maybe.

Banii v. Gao (HAY GUYS THIS TEXT LINKS TO THE VIDEO ON YOUTUBE HURRR)

0:05 - This is why this match was pointed out to me in the first place. Using 236A as a anti-air with decent upside on trade, used proactively. He trades with a R.Arc j.B from nearly full screen and wins the trade 1900+initative (and it should be more but he drops the rest of the combo) to 500.

0:09 - meaty j.C into airdash neutral jump j.CB. A fairly standard start for oki, but you can branch off into many things. j.C into dash j.B, dash j.C (whiffs), dash j.B(1h)C(whiffs). You can also neutral jump into those, or even neutral jump lean back j.C in specific instances to avoid some normals.

0:11 - 2B5A dash 2A5B 2A airdash j.B 2AC5B5A whiff chain 5C236A. UGHHHHHHHH?! Where the hell are you going to push a button?

0:16 - First instance of 236A in a blockstring. You would think this is bara bait... but it really isn't. The hitstop on the move is significant, but Nanaya is not affected by it.
Which means that the move keeps hitting, and keeps resetting the hitstop. The gotcha here is that you can not bara across hitstop instances, so the window to bara is actually really short (it's also why baraing random multi-hit projectiles is harder than one would initially think). On top of that, the move has a lot of active frames -- any non-invincible bara is instantly out. The third thing is if you bara the last hit, Nanaya is -7 on bara, so you need a move that comes out fairly fast or he can block.

0:17 - 5A (whiffs!) 5B jump j.C aaaaand R.Arc finally gets out. Jumping here is a first level move as she has minor initative but Nanaya is spaced so that a 2B would beat anything she would stick out that would normally win otherwise. It's one of those situtations that looks like a match reset and experienced players know it is, but it isn't a standard one per-se.

0:25 - He's so good he can whiff 236As and bait a heavy poke and punish it! :psyduck:

0:27 - The combo starter here is non-standard (to me, but I suck). Necessary because 623C wouldn't have hit clean from that distance.

0:32 - Why the airdash?

0:42 - Honestly, backdashing here is probably one of your better responses against R.Arc. While technically you have initative, shit happens fast and you need to make that judgement call (since her initative is based on spacing) really fast as the move has very little recovery.

0:45 - If you're going to try to slide through a bloodring, you need to do it really late. You would think you could slide under one, but you'll just be sad if you try.

0:51 - One of the problems with using 236A trade as an anti-air is that you're taking CH2 stun from it. If this was just a normal CH trade the round probably ends (then again what normal would trade in such a spot? Look how high R.Arc is when she gets hit!)

0:58 - And now you get to see that point from 0:51 in reverse. Hurf durf. (He also luckboxes his opponent missing a tech. punish; he should have been dead meat).

1:03 - This R.Arc seems to be responing well to the 236As. First time she blocks, the next two times she jumps out (with Nanaya looking for a poke out), and the fourth time she down-backs it again while Nanaya tries to... bait something?

1:05 - 2B at mid-range+ is a really good normal to use when you think there's some chance of your opponent trying to activiate. Like right now. R.Arc had the good read; just picked a really bad move to do it against.

1:13 - You can't use 236A reactively. A dragon punch this move is not.

1:18 - lolololol even good Japanese players panic button. This looks like a staggered whiff chain attempt that R.Arc sat on too long; Nanaya reads throw and gets there anyway.

1:25 - Airdash into airthrow again. There's a reason why he does it, but damned if I know.

1:28 - 2C5A whiff chain throw is a bullshit throw tick. It would be even more bullshit if it didn't carry such nasty reverse implied damage (1100 the first time around and south of 900 if you run that back twice in quick succession).

1:30 - This setup (j.22 into 5B) will make people flinch, but there's a nasty gotcha to this one. Normally if you try that, you will end up getting a buffered 22B. Which can be funny at times, but is probably not what you want (and if they flinched, you're eating a CH2 stun!). You have to hold 2 until you land, and then return to neutral right before you input the 5B. Also remember that j.22 has 5 frames of landing recovery and counts as a reverse beat.

1:35 - 236A is legitimately hard to punish when used right (with someone in the air).

1:39 - Dash 5CA dash 2AC5A (wc) 2B 2AC5A2AB5C 236A. Two whiff chains in the same sequence, hurr.

He wasn't expecting the 2B to hit at all, which ended up causing the 236A to not hit at all because the hitstun knocked him too far back. Weird.

1:45 - 2B > activiation, again.

2:06 - Gambooooooooool (and he doesn't get there). If that 5B clash frame hits he's doing 6000+ on R.Arc (lol unscaled combo). 5B CH dash 5CB air combo looooool.

2:12 - Even good players fall for that.

2:22 - This is why you need to spend time in training mode, kids.

2:35 - Today's word of the day is 立ち回り. It's fight game jargon for CH fishing. This is an example.

2:42 - Very good reactions by the Nanaya player -- I know if I read 214A I CH against the second blood ring.

2:55 - Look at the momentum on this. SJ from about 2/3rds of the stage out j.C airdash land j.AB into combox. Gets all the way in the corner and then some.

And I have nothing for the other two rounds. Gao catches Kumuhands in rounds four and just pisses that away, and then just comes back and brings the rape in the final round. Actually round 5 is a good example of putting together long relatively seamless sequences with Nanaya. I may go into detail in another post.

Just as a general point, both players move around a lot in the air but throw out very few air normals. This is in contrast to what American players (both in general and for Nanaya and R.Arc specifically) like to do; this is probably due to a higher converstion rate on air-to-air CHs to full combos from Japanese players. Notice the complete lack of j.harmans from Gao. Probably a bit extreme here, due to the higher likelihood of eating a random air bloodring, but still.

One final bit of WTF in the final round: At 4:19, he lands BE 5BB(lolol) into j.C 2C?!?!?!?!. What? The only thing I can even come up with is that this was a horribly failed 623C, but yeesh.

主要タイトル最新情報:鉄拳6/アルカナハート 2/MELTY BLOOD Act Cadenza 2(仮称) (emphasis mine)

Translation: Latest news on: Tekken 6, Arcana Heart 2, Melty Blood: Act Cadenza 2 (working title)

(lololol the site no longer mentions MB:AC 2; the article was probably pulled at the last second).

It also goes on to list Arcana Heart Full and MBAC ver.B2, so this is certainly about the new version.

Tournaments and Events / Final Round XI in Atlanta, GA [3/16/2008]
« on: September 30, 2007, 10:27:45 PM »
Final Round is the major fighting game tournament of the southeast, usually taking place in the spring. This have already announced pans for this years event (six months in advance, wtf) and Melty Blood is currently not on the roster. However, after a small shitstorm on shoryuken.com, the game has been brought up for consideration. I've been asked to gauge interest in a Melty Blood tournament there, if it were to happen.

Final Round is one of the longest running tournament series in America, and a strong showing here would be a significant boost to the community as a whole, especially in the south, where there are a lot of fighting game players and a disproportionate lack of MB players (to my knowledge).

Update: Melty Blood is now an official game at Final Round XI.

Tournament vitals:

Location:

Holiday Inn - Atlanta

NetPlay Community / Known issues with MBCaster
« on: September 26, 2007, 05:47:20 AM »
There are known various issues and bugs with MBCaster, along with some fixes of varying kludginess. Please do not report them unless you have more information on them (like ways to consistently cause desynchs).

  • POV hats, which work in MB:AC, do not work in MBCaster. This mainly affects people playing with X360 pads and sticks. Workaround: Use joy2key to map the POV hat to the keyboard controls.  Fixed by updating to the latest version.
  • MBCaster adds additional input lag on top of the inputed delay. Current reason is unknown. Workaround: Account for this when inputting input delay before the start of a game for optimal performance. Fixed by updating to the latest version.
  • MBCaster will say something about version incompatibility when trying to observe games, even when everyone is running the latest version. Workaround: Ignore it; the error message is harmless if everyone is running current versions. Fixed by updating to the latest version.
  • MBCaster will desynch at times. All causes are unknown, but it seems to happen more frequently with White Len and Neco-Arc Chaos, and will always happen if one player has NAC unlocked and the other does not and someone tries to play him. Workaround: Don't play shitty characters. Partially fixed by updating to the latest version. Some FPU-related desynchs still remain but tend to be very rare out in the field.

Back in the day, when you brought up the idea of running Melty Blood at a major event, people either went "what the fuck is that?" or just laughed at you for wanting to play an animu fighter; you would be taking up valuable resources that could be used toward MvC2 or 3S money matches. Then there was NEC. Big Eric (the tournament director for the event) just looked at it and went "you have sixteen people for this? that's cool player; take this setup and run it Sunday". So it ended up being the biggest side tournament of the entire event, finishing with a set from Sp00ky and Zar that is still going to this day (MB takes a long time to play), and was the first major to officially host MB.

Some people say that tournaments take on the personality of the person running them. That's true enough with the least coast MB tournaments, anyway -- Sp00ky's usually have a high but very quiet intensity to them, my own tend to be dead serious and just a touch self-loathing, and Chibi/Zaeler's events tend to always run a bit goofy. However, Eric is one of the most laid-back and chill people I have ever met in my life, and NEC as a result is one of the most laid-back tournaments I have ever seen. People just playing random casuals randomly, hotel room after hotel room after hotel room. Random team tournaments, low tier shenanigans, ghetto burgers, a zillion side games, people just chilling (even me, and I never relax).

Back for its second year, now with many more players, more luls, but no more actual skill (least coast is least coast for a reason). This time it looks like we might be drawing some west coast clowns so now people can actually lose to someone else for a change.

The Location
America's Best Inn
2015 Penrose Ave.
Philadelphia, PA

(It's about three miles from the airport.)

Phone number: 215-336-4516

The special NEC8 hotel room rate is $60 per night, omfg. If that's still too expensive for you (and knowing how broke least coast MB players are, it might be) I have booked two rooms (total cost for the weekend is expected to be around $270) housing as many MB retards as I can jam in. Get at me if you want to partake in the faggotry.

The tournament will be held on Sunday, December 2nd starting at 5:00 (yeah the late start sucks). Apparently there's another loli fighting game having a tournament at NEC too, but nobody cares about that game.

Rules

  • $5 to enter (this is on top of the $15 cover charge).
  • Latest version of the PC edition of MB:AC ver.B as of the tournament date.
  • Default settings, two out of three games for most tournament games, three out of five for winners finals, losers finals, and grand finals.
  • All characters are allowed.
  • Bring your own stick or pad. Converters should be on site but bring one if you know your controller is finicky about such things. Keyboard play is not allowed.
  • Free character selection by default; blind pick can be requested by either player.
  • You can change your character at any time except when you just won a game.
  • No button binding (this is a NEC-wide rule) -- THE Q BUTTON IS ALLOWED YOU NITS
  • Shower or bathe before the tournament.

We will be recording commentary, and all matches will have replays recorded (not saving your replays is punishable by death, via death loli).

LETTUCE GOGOGOGOGOGO

And just for luls, other tournament games:

Just across the street from Marisa's House of Pain and Suffering!  :V

Two bits of legal errata, first:

This thread and anything implied in it are representative of the poster and the poster himself only. Melty Bread, Denjin Video, Robo-Moe LLC, Type-Moon, French Bread, Microsoft, Disney, Old Dan's Radiator and Archery Shop or your mother do not authorize or condone and are not involved in any manner with any transactions posted herein.

All sales are final and all items are sold as-is. There is no warranty expressed or implied from the seller (manufactures warranties may still apply, item dependent).

With that said, there are a couple of slightly broken items I want to sell off:

-A slighly broken Nintendo DS Lite. Master Chibi white, well worn. Launch day batch so it has the broken hinges problem in full force. Part of the left hinge is broken off and the entire right hinge broke off. Other than that the system works as it should. See picture attached to this post. $50 shipped.

-A slightly broken Hori SC2 stick. Also well worn; the stick itself is looser than a loli after a night with Mizuki. The whole thing works about as well as a SC2 Hori does (somewhere between manageable and utter arse, depending on who you ask) but the controller cable is fraying at the base and the select button likes to get stuck and you have to wedge it out. Apply lots of electrical tape. See picture attached to this post. $40 plus shipping.

(Either Lain or Keith may have claimed the stick as they have both expressed interest and concerns).

Both items will be disinfected of Kumuhands before being shipped. Shipping fees will be waived in the instance that I can personally hand you the item (and AIDS).

The TGA ranking battles are back after a long hiatus (due to SBO qualifiers, Bowlmanifest, and things just taking longer to get out to the middle of nowhere), and while Zar continues his dominance the field seems to be wide open beyond that, waiting for someone to step it up and establish themselves.

  • From Rt. 2 W, take EXIT 24B, then tha'll be Rt.140 NORTH. (10-15 min drive)
  • From Rt. 140 N, keep going straight down for about 15 min.
  • Eventually you are going to run on a little bridge with a pond on your right, from there take a RIGHT onto Beech Street.
  • At the end of Beech St., take a right onto 5 Summer Dr. and you'll see our beloved Tokyo Game Action.

Sadly, they took the video equipment out of MB:AC and stuck it in CvS2. Who the hell plays CvS2? :( Hopefully someone will bring a camcorder and record on their own.

OK so things have gone down the shitter quite hard recently. The area's best player quit on everyone (who claims personal reasons), and who was considered to be the second best player failed to finish top three over on the west coast, finishing behind an Arc who has to use 3B to get any damage. There's no hype (Arcana Heart has more mindshare with the hardcore set despite having a much smaller scene due to raw hype and the work of a couple of notable people), no support (local players are too busy fighting amongst themselves and leaving for other games to try to get any new players), and no drive (the level of play is the same as it was six months ago, and that is not a good trend).

Even with all that, the beat goes on and the game rolls on, because we don't know what else to do. So here it is.

Also lawl at DSP still not even acknowledging the game's existence and Zaeler not putting this thread up even though he's 'hype' about the game (maybe he remembered he just ran good and everyone else here sucks).

ACTUAL IMPORTANT SHIT OMG

The date: Saturday, July 14, 2007
The time: 12pm to 12am
The price: $10 cover, $5 to enter MB:AC
The place: web2zone
54 Cooper Square (Cafe area)
New York, NY 10003
212-614-7300

Doors open at 12, casuals until 3. Tournament signups are from 1:30 until 2:30, and all tournaments are scheduled to start at 3 PM. Standard rules (2/3 rounds 2/3 games 3/5 for winners final, losers final, grand finals), bring your own stick or pad, we're playing on the PS2 because we're ghetto (the PC version will not be out by then, ship that), and don't act stupid. Also sickness and rank odor are banned so don't bring that shit.

Games will still be recorded (hopefully I don't get overly emo again and actually bother putting them up!). Zar will not be at this event (because he's busy with school... on a Saturday ::) ) and neither will Master Chibi (he'll be too busy touring Toronto's finest maid cafes... fucker).

Other tournament games:

-SF3: Third Strike
-Capcom vs. SNK 2
-Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
-Marvel vs. Capcom 2
-Guilty Gear: Accent Core

So who will man up and help lead the least toast out of this rut?... why the hell are you all looking at me?

I doubt min f'in masters would ever post this here either, but unlike DSP he does not actually loathe MB (just Chibi) -- so here it is.

MB will be there, even though this is meant to be an Evo East prep. event and there's no such noise at Evo (this year :V ). MB actually included a pot bonus last time (!!) and that offer is on the table again from web2zone, turnout dependent. MB is also the only five dollar tournament (open question: should this change?) because MB is the baller's choice and we can afford that shit. Games should be recorded (they will be if I make it), so be prepared to make an ass out of the 100 people live in attendance and a few hundred more watching on youtube. Sp00ky and Zar should be back for this, and they are going to be very fucking angry and just as hungry. Lots of other people have things to prove, from XAQ and his relationship with Arc to Chibi and his ability to think and Dippy and his willingness to exist.

Other tournament games:

-SF3: Third Strike
-Capcom vs. SNK 2
-Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
-Marvel vs. Capcom 2
-Guilty Gear XX Slash (singles and teams)
-Virtua Fighter 5 (aka best game ever)
-Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection
-Dead or Alive 4

On top of that, lasers, traps, and lolis will all be available at the venue. No reason not to go.

Get hype,
Get hungry,
Get better,
Get shot.
