Kohaku's Magical Garage / How to reversal backdash like a pro
« on: March 06, 2007, 10:55:22 PM »
This is one of those things that every player should know but I am willing to bet less than five players in America actually know this. Most people know that reversals in MB are very difficult to time correctly. They have the standard one frame window, while not having negative edge and multiple button inputs to make your life easier like in most 2D fighters. However, there is an exception that applies to stick-only commands, of which backdash is probably the most useful in said situtation.

How do you do it? 4[4]. Ya rly, it's that simple. The technical data is as follows: You must be holding 4 as you come out of blockstun, and the previous 4 input must have occurred less than 12 frames before you come out of blockstun. Fulfill these conditions and you will backdash on the reversal frame. Fail and you get punched in the face.

Master this and you will backdash on the reversal frame on wakeup (or coming out of blockstun or whatever) 100% of the time. Use it to piss your friends off. :V

For anyone that cares, this is the same reason why bara superjumps are so easy to time.

Apparently a bunch of GG players from NE went up to TGA today and were looking to play MB on the side.

Of course I can not go because it's an all-day event for me to get to TGA and back in the first place. :\

Can't you ever go to TGA? How far is that from Boston?

The comp. up there for fighting games in general is shaky; if you aren't going when you know people are going, you're highly likely to find no one at all.

lol CT Melty Blood never existed.
Fixed.

We all know that if you want comp. you got to travel down to NYC. Which sucks for me, since I live in Boston. -_-;;

Also hoooooly crap you should install a module that allows users to change the posts per page that they see. Reading forums at 15 pages a post makes me sad.

Nanaya's 214B is useful for baras but don't use it in situations where you need a move with invincibility -- it's fairly fast but if you get hit out of it that's SCH/CH2 stun and you'll have a sad Nanaya. Useful for characters that can spam long-range projectiles that are normally +frames on block (R.Arc, Ciel, M-Hisui).

I really don't see why the Japanese don't use Satsuki's 214C out of bara more. It does ~2400 damage which is a very good return on meter used (unless you're looking to land anti-air 623Cs).

Personally, I find bara AD to be my personal limit, and since my execution is the suck I figure a trained Japanese player could do most specials out of blockstun (now doing that on a live opponent is another problem). And I guess bara SJ is the easiest one, just being 214+D78[9] (yes, you can hold 9 and get the SJ).

Technically you can bara into any normal, but only characters with dashes that have no startup and can be canceled on the first frame can do it.

The odds of DSP posting this here are roughly zero, so I'll do it myself.

The Date: Saturday April 28th
The Time: 12 Noon-Midnight
The Price: $10 cover
The place: web2zone (Internet Cafe & Video Game Center)
54 Cooper Sq (Cafe Area)
New York , NY 10003
212-614-7300

Melty Blood will be there, even though DSP hates the game so much he won't list it in the official list. Never mind that last time this game had a bigger pot than 3S, but whatever. 2/3 rounds, 2/3 games, 3/5 for winners, losers, and grand finals. Games will be recorded and put on the Internets; become an Internet celebrity! Come see Sp00ky and Zar play their 3565643th match in the finals, XAQ throw out maid rush after maid rush, Dippy luckbox more last arcs, Chibi being Chibi, lasers being charged, and who the hell knows what else.

Other tournament games:

-SF3: Third Strike
-CvS2
-Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
-Marvel vs. Capcom 2
-Guilty Gear XX Slash

VF5 and T5:DR will also be there, but I don't know if they're running tournaments for that.

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Re: The Bara Cancel (Bunker Cancel) Thread
« on: February 23, 2007, 02:59:43 PM »
Advice on practicing bara cancels:

In training mode, pick either V.Sion or Walachia and set them to Attack 1. They will perform their 5C (both of which hit three times, but at different rates), and you should then try to block and bara cancel out of the blockstun. While this is not perfect (as good players will vary their blockstrings and the timing thereof), this will let you learn the timing of the cancel -- how early you can buffer the motion, when you have to hit D, how quickly you have to hit the button after hitting D, etc..

Practice trying to bara cancel each hit of these normals.
