Kohaku's Magical Garage / Shield to EX Shield
« on: March 16, 2007, 05:45:11 PM »
As explained to me by Magikarp and Dipstick, Shields can cancel into special attacks and other shields. Therefore, it is possible to perform the following against multi-hit attacks:

[Shield] xx EX Shield xx any normal attack

Partially taking out the guesswork in a Shield situation while combining the offensive advantages and options of EX Shield, this technique has some potential for abuse. If anyone would like to contribute by posting the number of hits of the most popular attacks that people use with their characters, I think it'd be a good way for us to explore avenues of the game that haven't been explored yet.

Stupidly enough, you cannot cancel EX Shield into block. You gotta keep Shielding. Yeesh.

General Gameplay notes:

Arlieth:

Load up training mode and practice 5B xx j.B. Getting this to land consistently will add so much damage to your game. You can't land it at all ranges but you can get a feel for when it works.

You have a good idea of how to abuse his whiff cancel strings. Try adding 2B 5A whiff 2B. And randomly from the ground using IAD B especially with snake backup, and using 2C as anti air when you have 421C setup to protect you.

Does the 5B come after 2B? As in, 2A 2B(1) 5B(1) xx j.B? The other version I've used reverses that order, where it's 5B 2B 2C xx j.B to minimize my combo penalty. I don't have frame data available to me, so I don't know if 5B has better proration or hitstun (though I do know it has better speed), but I remember in the past having some trouble consistently getting 5B xx j.B timing. Therefore, when I first started out, I switched to the 2AB(3/4)C xx j.A or j.C series for consistency's sake at the cost of damage, but I don't know how much it's costing me in potential.

I haven't seen the vid yet, but against Sacchin, I traditionally avoid throwing out too many pokes after whiff cancel because of her 2.C's priority over mine. I don't know if I had to vary my strings against AkaAkihas yet. Also, B.Snake can't hit Sacchin 2.C because it literally warps her hitbox past Nero's body when she attacks(1), so I've avoided that as a general rule against Sacchin unless she's already stuck in blockstun.

As for the 2C, you're absolutely right about that. That's the one move I keep forgetting to do, though I forget whether that's because I kept getting hit out of it by Shiki's j.C kick on his way down. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

PS: WTF were those 5Cs? I hate MB command interpretation.

(1): on the other hand, I've had an A.Snake going the wrong way because Sacchin crossed me up, and then she got caught by A.Snake when she hit past my body with the 2.C. Go figure.

Akiha's Tea Room / Introductory Thread (Take off your shoes, please)
« on: March 12, 2007, 12:10:18 AM »
Hey everyone, this is the official introductory thread. Please tell us where you're from, who you use, and what your local scene's like!

Also: Please read the Melty Bread Rules before posting.

794
Oh?

Well, regarding version B, I think he fits in solidly at B-Class. We both can assume Sion and AkaAkiha are S-Class. He honestly doesn't have the raw speed necessary for A-Class status, but a few tweaks here and there for frames could be the difference between an okay trap and a devastating one.

PS: I think it's creepy that I make my 66th post with my 6 magic circuits as I post on Nero's thread.

795
We're gonna try to install MB tonight at FFA.

Akiha's Tea Room / Hey, who likes Fate: Stay Night?
« on: March 08, 2007, 07:43:34 AM »
I have an inside source telling me something really 14(jyushi).

Suffice to say, all you Fate: Stay Night fans are going to joygasm next year. This topic will be kept secret until further notice.

Oh, and if you haven't already, get a joystick and practice.

Funny thing about Japanese players- We tend to underestimate the effects of the American crowd. Between Evolution 2k5 and Super Battle Opera 4 in 2k6, Nito's playing strength was like the difference between having one chance to hit a fly in midair with a flyswatter and hitting the fly with a chopstick. Japanese players usually take a bit of exposure to become used to the environment and enthusiasm of an American audience, because we tend to yell and cheer instead of staying silent and clapping. By the thousands, that is.

Okay, so it looks like "Creature Channel: S" is really "Creature Channel: Gestalt", and the secret EX is Creature Channel: Apotheosis. But something about this mook tells me it's not MBAC...? I took my movelists off of Sega/Ecole's sites and some of this stuff looks switched around.

Shiki's kick is still that stupid name. A lot of these translations are variants that would seem to make more sense in the context of a movelist.

You know what's funny, I didn't see that on ANY Japanese movelists anywhere. Do you know a source (in Japanese) with it so I can translate?
