Tournament Results / Re: NEC XI: MBAA SINGLES/TEAMS
« on: December 06, 2010, 08:55:08 PM »
shoutouts to my dad for picking me up from the train station at eleven at night and to the PA dmv for depriving me of my rightful driver's license

good shit to everyone I played, specially kamina, robster, and 505 in singles! also to PWS, fox, joe, sekuhara, and someone else (I forgot, sorry!) I played in teams.

it always warms my heart to see people travel out to this shit, glad to see the titans of texas, pfhor and tim again, tone, etc... thanks to massachusetts for the casuals sunday morning, zero for cutting his hair and entering the bond of ex-longhair brothers or something, el kay for his true devotion and character love, kashif for sabotaging the all-kohaku grand finals and ruining my hype, Nas for bringing out the alcohol in full force as always, sogos for driving my freezing ass to the train station and for being more hype for mb than most of the regular players, rei for losing the F-Arc rum match but still raping me for free with his main, roku for the real talk session, rayza for the card hack and for speaking barely intelligible starcraftese all weekend, everyone I played in casuals, etc... Got a lot of games in, but there's always room for more, and they were a lot of people I wanted to play but never got the chance to. There's always next tourney, I've got a lot more work to do and I def can't wait to play again!

also special shoutouts to joe for giving me the privilege of sleeping on his floor, probably would've gone broke this weekend otherwise, also tell dan to play more and (I never thought I'd say this) drink less, lmao

2D PC game with ancient chinese warriors, made by panda soft or something. Anyone have any idea what the hell game that would be? Kinda itching to give it another whirl but it's probably been 14 years since I played it.

first fg I remember was either Mortal Kombat on the Genesis or a 2D PC game with ancient chinese warriors, made by panda soft or something. Anyone have any idea what the hell game that would be? Kinda itching to give it another whirl but it's probably been 14 years since I played it.

Whoa, that actually looks rly cool.
:V :V :V :V lmao clearly you skipped the part where ivan ooze shows up

ggs to everyone I played, really fucking impressed with the turnout, shoutouts to Dai for running things and teaming with me, good shit to chocolate birthday cake maiden for helping me in a desperate (i.e. hungry and poor) time in my life, and to RIL for the victory roar of the decade lmao. Glad to see a ton of people travelling for this shit and that players still care!

also thanks to the police officers who woke me up from my very comfortable slumber on the floor of Penn Station at 5 am, FUCK YOU, I was having a very pleasant dream

you said some hurtful things which held more of an impact than you realized. Some things are just better left unsaid, and nobody likes an internet tough guy
shit just got real

thanks for the info ehrik (and the rochishin vid, why aren't there more of this guy????)

took your advice to practice mode but still haven't successfully pulled off a punish (I set the dummy to crouch - status guard + forward tech), but it looks highly doable in that vid, just gotta grind it out some more but this is great shit for all the F-Arc players out there, will really help this char lock people down in the corner.

stuff
yadda yadda anime, pretty much three-quarters of the users here have anime avatars and a favorite touhou character, this scene can't be that unforgiving to anime fans, I mean NEC 9 in the melty corner people were looking at doujins and virtual girl 3d or whatever on one of the laptops and everyone thought it was funny as hell. I don't think there is an aversion to anime fandom, just creepy anime fandom. I'll leave it to others to decide their definition of creepy

almost completely unrelated

one time I was playing at a con, some thirty-something year old guy with a dorky grin and a hat covered in pins of old CLAMP characters and Gundam shit sits down next to me, says Neco Arc is his favorite character, jumps around mindlessly while shooting kawaii-beams, gets bodied for five minutes and then challenges me to Mario Kart, all while dorkily grinning and laughing like that fucking Mokona creature from Rayearth, I declined, fucking ugly otaku, moral of the story, CONS SUCK

anyway, I don't think we can convinced the 35-year old Neco Arc/Clamp/Mario Kart to so much as learn a bnb, the ssf4 player is a better bet

Quote
And I really, really, am not blaming anyone in specific (It's all LK's fault), but the fact that Garu won Evo probably killed any chance of this game has of having an American release in the next 2 years (and considering Ecole's augmentation away from Melty, probably for the entire franchise).  By having a Japanese player win it sorta said "there is no serious competition in America".
uhhhhhhh I don't see the relevance of Garu's victory to MB's possible localization. I don't think the level of competition in America is proportionate to a game's ability to churn a profit. I also think the "arrogant Japanese company" thing you you mentioned is not quite the case anymore, very few games are released exclusively for the Japanese console market, spending is down significantly among Japanese consumers, companies need to make money. If they see a market, no matter how small, they're gonna try to inch their way in to it. See the miraculous first American console release of a Cave game earlier this summer (and that genre has an even small fanbase than fighters) :V :V :V :V

and any console release would be good, regardless of region. Importing is easy-peasy, anyone with a job can import ps3 games and anyone with a really nice job can import 360 games. This might not expand the American fanbase, but it would not hurt it.

I dropped it at 81 hits, was this in the last version?

edit: substitute 5a for 5b to get the 100% life version, lol

been playing around with F-Arc's 214B charge B overhead followup a bit

The move is easy as hell to react to, but on block you can go into the fuzzy mixup with jB, delayed jC, land, low/jA. The delay is pretty significant, and I think makes this setup a little more ambiguous. On some charas you can even go: jA, jB, delay jC ,since Arc is so floaty at then end of the overhead followup.

It's kinda simple so I suspect other people have played around with it already, but I think it at least makes 214B > overhead worth incorporating into pressure since you get a pretty scary mixup even on block.

I would not go that far, but it does have some reach.  But to be honest, I would be under the thinking that the KoF series has a bigger community in Asia than Tekken, and all of that is in the shadow that is Street Fighter.

I don't believe so.  Maybe if you consider Taiwan and Singapore, but if you look at the fighting game culture in Japan, Korea, the Phillipines, and Malaysia it's mostly dominated by Tekken players.
mainland china is also a kof nation, I found maybe 1 tekken machine for every 30 kof machines

that said they probably can't afford the latest tekken games while kof 98 or um costs like a nickle to procure

there is no "shadow that is street fighter" in china, no one fucking plays that game, lol

"holy fuck this guy might be the second greatest guitarist ever, after that swedish guy yengy"

Anyone have tips for consistently tech punishing after FArc's j.2C in the corner?  :slowpoke:

Neutral tech is retardedly easy to beat, back tech not so bad either, but I haven't found a consistent method for punishing forward tech. Whiff an air normal, land 2B/5B has worked for me in matches, but training mode blocks it 100% so I'm pretty sure that my opponent just wasn't blocking properly and it's not a true punish. Aerial whiff land > throw has also worked for me, but that's not something I want to rely on as it seems a little gimmicky. Are there any consistent, foolproof options for this situation?

Haven't tried this in a match yet and it's easily beaten by a lot of options, but has anyone used after j2C, airdash forward, blocked j.C into high/low? The opponent has some time before the j.C hits so it seems risky, but you don't have to vary the timing depending on whether the opponent does neutral or back (as with j.2B punishes) and you get a free mixup on block, seems worth a shot, but I dunno if people've tried this and gotten raped for it or what  :mystery:
