Let's plaay again sometime!
Yeah too bad I suck I totally got buttraped by some random person on /jp/. Anyway I'm down for MBAC ANYTIME HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT I'M PRETTY MUCH PERFECT since I fixed my PC. Well, kinda. Shitty mobo is shitty.

Oh yeah, the OP. Sorry about that, I totally forgot about the topic. The difference is silly kicks in MBAA.

You guys obviously have an idea of what you're doing (combos/blockstrings etc) but there are some obvious holes you can easily fix. His blockstring is quite loose and isn't worth blocking over since he's just spamming 2b5a, IAD jb, and dash 2a/throw. He's not even hitconfirming the 2b into 5c 214b for the knockdown. During the corner "lockdown" just jump neutral/back or jump forward w/ jA or something when you smell a gap. Even when you fight better Nanayas who know how to do mean blockstrings and hitconfirm, this is probably one of your best options. When you're not in the corner, backdash/jump or something.
- When you both get knocked down at the same time, always neutral tech (but don't always tech when he's in neutral, in fact never tech if you're remotely near him due to 2C ez-mode punish)
- If you have excess meter to burn (MAX), feel free to 236b? into 236C for +frames during your blockstring so you can get in closer and do mixups
Actually your VSion is better than his Nanaya imo, but yeah you give him too much respect for his worth. You let him run 2b5a x100 on you, which is something that should be punished.

God I hate Nanaya. Good thing he's relatively not so great in MBAA.

I'm actually quite happy with C, since he's definitely been buffed. Being able to combo off antiair 5b is already a huge plus. They're all viable as characters to use IMO. I haven't even tried out the 623 crows yet.

I've been trying to learn F-Nero in arcades but it feels kinda different. I'm having trouble even connecting the airdash (doesn't go through or something?) after jC...dunno what's up with that.

Hopefully I won't be bitching about him in the future because he feels very solid right now compared to MBAC. MBAA just seems more intense than MBAC because of the seemingly more effective blockstrings, higher damage/execution combos, and more ways to reversal.

Mosquito and Sludge seem great, but I actually prefer MBAC deer since it doesn't run away once you get hit. It seems quite easy to interrupt your seemingly huge amount of pressure (shield counters, CH, etc).
Full Moon characters cannot airdash cancel normals. It's the same for every single Full Moon character in the game.
Gee that explains it.

Ciel's Tech Support / Re: PS3 -> PC arcade stick question

You need a driver. A simple google search yields this site: http://news.filefront.com/how-to-use-a-ps3-controller-on-a-pc/

It's a pain to use it on MBAC since the built-in controller settings use inputs 1-14 or something and the inputs for the sixaxis are higher than that, so you'd need to use JoyToKey, and it gets kinda messy. However, the emulator people use for MBAA allows you to set which buttons are mapped to what in the emulator, so it works perfectly fine. My friend used my PS3 Dualshock3 for the PC emulated MBAA, and it works great. I would assume the PS3 stick would function in the same fashion, although I haven't tried it myself. You just need to run the DOS-looking .exe every time you want to start up the PS3 controller (and then push the PS button as if you were playing PS3), otherwise the inputs won't be recognized.

Also it was kind of funny that the PS3 controller being used upstairs turned on the PS3 downstairs wirelessly, so you might want to turn the switch off on your PS3 while using it... :prinny:

Possibly going to AI today (probably early-mid afternoon). I randomly ran into it while going to that Chinese restaurant with a friend and tried out AA for the first time on Friday.

I'm glad you adopted my unbeatable pad setup RussellChamp. Now you will truly be a champ.

Don't let other people's personal preferences get to you, if you want to be a 360 pad warrior then do it.
Of course, there's a certain advantage to being able to walk into an arcade and knowing how to use a proper arcade stick.
If you want to have the same layout that the PS2 games use, you'll have to map it as such:

A - X
B - Y
C - B
D - A
Quick Action - Right Bumper

I'm not sure about the macro buttons, no one here uses them and the arcades don't have them.

Edit: Oh yeah, wireless controllers may have input delay.  If you can get a wired 360 controller you'd be wise to do so.

Oh come on, you know pad is trash.
YOUR trash.

13
I've heard there's a mod you can do to the 360 pad with some sandpaper and a pringles lid, can't remember the link though, just google it.
I believe the link is here... http://tinyurl.com/ml4njd
I'm usually quite hesitant of hardware mods, but this looks fairly easy and difficult to screw up as you're not actually cutting any of your controller parts.  I don't see the direct benefit here, though, as it seems nobody uses the d-pad anyway.

Also, if sticks are that inexpensive I might be interested in getting one.  I was just a bit scared off when I saw in a general thread that someone said they got a "crapy/mediocre" stick for $150.

-Russ  :teach:
You can get a good one for $100 (HRAP 2 or something). I have one but I prefer pad. Still.

I used a PS2 pad. Some inputs are too difficult when compared to stick so I used the shortcut keys for certain things.
In terms of ZBOZ:
A = X
B = A
C = B
D = Right bumper
Quick Action (throw) = Y
A+B (dash/dodge) = R2 (right...trigger?)
A+D = not mapped
A+B+C (heat) = Left bumper

The d-pad looks kinda crappy on the zboz controller but hopefully it works for you. I remember trying to use it at the Aksys Battle Fantasia demo at AX and it was a nightmare.

If you're playing Half you shouldn't have much problem. Half bunker is good.

If you're playing Full you can shield counter or Bees.

If you're playing either Crescent or Full then you can EX Guard to keep yourself from getting guard broken. The blockstring is only tight as long as Maids have meter.
God I love shield counter and BEES. Although even with that great stuff the window must be pretty tight if 5f jumpouts are being punished.

Why do you specifically need a Nero bunkering it? If other characters bunker out then anybody else could too
I wish Nero's bunker was remotely as good as Nanaya's.

Do you have a video of a Nero bunkering out of that string? I'd like to see where you get this conviction from, since you make it seem to be the best option for getting out safely.
Other players bunker out. It's the best way usually. There might be points where you can dp, but Nero doesn't have one.
Key word is Nero here. Actually, BEES might work. I hope the input isn't half circle, although I would assume it is.

It hits, it just requires you to be somewhat low to the ground during the wallslam. You can 2[C] from that setup, although I only really use 2[C] when it's situational since I don't normally go into a jC from 2C.

If you want to play people I suggest you get on IRC if you can (irc.prison.net #mbac).

I think the best way to learn Nero is to watch high level play and practice combos, blockstrings, and setups. Understanding of normals, mechanics, and matchups just comes from experience.

I hope you took a look at the video I posted earlier. Here's another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJQuOvzc5Cs

"**** it" is open to interpretation, and dependent upon the player. In most cases, it would refer to one blocking an endless blockstring and getting thrown a bunch of times. An experienced Nero player knows when to **** it and 4C into Hoaa. An inexperienced player will get punished more often, but that's to be expected. You learn how 4C better only with experience.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Nero Chaos (Nrvnqsr) / Re: Nero's pressure options
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:53:31 AM »
*not really about his pressure but dealing with pressure*

I'm a new Nero player and I have trouble dealing with throws in the corner/in general. Usually they'll just run up and grab me. I'll ty 2A but it doesn't work. If there's a gap I try j.A but I have no idea how safe/reliable that is.

Another thing is if people are jumping above Nero trying ot mix him up, what are his options? Just hope that you block correctly?

Uh when you're in the corner things are not good. His normals aren't really meant to deal with close pressure. Here are your options:
1. Block and wait for a gap to jump out. This is arguably the best option, especially against certain characters. You can do a defensive jumpout with jA or just try to jump airdash out.
2. Forward dash out. Works only with meaties that have a lot of recovery time on whiff. His teleport is highly punishable, and against a lot of characters you will find yourself punished on most whiffed attacks.
3. 2B. This has an early clash frame, despite the fact that it takes a while to come out. May clash the poke during the opponents blockstring and deal a hit into aircombo. Loses to fast pokes and IAD.
4. 5B. This is "fast" but the first hit is somewhat high, so it loses completely to low pokes like Warc/Arc 2B, Nanaya 2B/C, etc. Beats IAD, loses to low pokes.
5. 2C. This is a psychic anti-air reversal. You need to completely predict that the opponent is going to jump and attack. It still loses to certain IADs since it takes so long to come out. You'll most likely end up with a comboable CH, but this really shouldn't be used. It has one clash frame, but takes forever to come out and STILL loses to certain attacks since it clashes once and then completely whiffs until the ridiculously long cooldown ends.
6. Dodge/shield. What can I say, this is pure yomi. Dodge beats out meaties with a lot of recovery but loses to 2aaaa/throw, shield is a 50/50 gamble if you completely guess (assuming you time it correctly). If you land it, punish them.
7. 2A. Nero's 2a kinda sucks because of its slower-than-normal-2a speed, and not easily comboable at a certain distance. You won't find this working too often, especially if you're a masher. It can give some pushback though at a certain distance (where their 2a whiffs), giving you the advantage to get out of the corner.
8. Reversal (63214C). Uhh, pretty bad idea but still an option. Punishes/wallslams meaties, grants full invincibility on startup but it takes so damn long to come out and is 100% punishable on block. Bad idea except on wakeup, in which it's still kind of a bad idea.
9. Shield Bunker(214D)/Bara(63214C~D). Nero's bunker kinda sucks. Doesn't wallslam, instead it grants a techable knockup (can't OTG bunkers either, don't try). His bara can be used if you're good at punishing moves with a lot of hitstop.

Ultimately, learn to block and jump out. Eating a throw or two most likely won't hurt you too much. Be patient and watch your opponent for gaps. Also, against characters that reset blockstrings with a lot of reverse beats (ie Nanaya), their damage is highly prorated, so the longer you duke it out the lower their damage will be (up to 3 consecutive RBs).

Edit: Changed 5C to 2C (typo). Nero 5C as an option hahaha funny.
