I remember last year there wasn't a cover charge for attending but I heard EVO lost a lot of its sponsors (TOYOTA?) so it does seem like there will be a $30 fee for attending.

I seem to be getting mixed answers. Quotes taken from shoryuken:

"No, you don't have to pay/register to watch or use the BYOC area."

"If someone were to go, but not play anything at all, do they still have to pay the $30 cover?"

"You mean just play casuals? no you don't then."

Oh and as a side note, todays the last day for $30 registration. Tomorrow it goes up to $50.

So I was browsing evo2k.com today and I noticed these little gems:

Just a reminder, there is no on-site registration for any reason. All players (including international players) will have to register online before the event begins.

So I was curious, I assumed that as I'm not entering any official Evo tourneys that I wouldn't need to reg for Evo, has that changed this year? Also if this is the case and I (we) don't reg online do we get screwed at the door?

EDIT: I think I found an answer but I'll leave this up in case someone has a more solid response than the one I found.

What exactly are you hitting them with that's causing them to be able to tech? Consider that if you hit confirm in air you should be able to follow up with a combo -> throw (or CH follow up). In my book a setup that leads to an air tech (generally a dropped combo) signifies a match reset and should be treated as such.

Yea, really though the main thing for me to remember is the button timing of the C. If I can keep myself calm enough to do it correctly everything should work out OK. Though I seem to have an easier time going to the left so I need to refine it a bit more before it will be ready for live matches.

Generally, what Pfhor and Zero posted is right on target, though to make a small contribution, my vid shows an easier version of the whiff cancel which may be better to start out on. Theres also the really easy version which is 2AA 2B 5C 2C 5BB(5A) j.C dj.BC throw, that you can do.

Yeah, I was. All weekend. I was walking around a lot and playing Hokuto/CvS2. I played a bit of MBAC with Dev on the cab for the hell of it.

Mizuki was 60 and 0, going strong on the Melty cab when I showed up...

Also I can see myself showing up on Saturday, need to practice those orb setups.

Where is SJSU's "juice girl or new cute register girl?" Man the fake NorCal has us beat, Game over everybody, time to change venues...

Sion and VSion's A and B normals weren't the exact same.

Sion:

For example both Sion and VSion have 3B as a launcher, but Sion needs it, while VSion doesn't use it in all of her combos because she has 623B/C and 236C.

I'd like to point out that this is kind of a false statement. V-Sion needs 3b to pick up throws and counterhits. Also both 3b's have different frame data. It was a bad example but you were on the right track.

Personally, I would appreciate it if they changed VAkiha entirely. She resembles her counter-part too much.

I don't buy it...
