Melty Breadcast / Re: Weekly Questions for BreadCast
« on: September 22, 2010, 09:37:24 PM »
The suggested reading of Domination 101 was very interesting. I learned a lot about the mentally of what it takes to move up in skill. My question is, "What beginning advice would you give to someone picking up Melty (MBAA) for the first time?"

or maybe to word it better, "What is the best way (in your opinion) for a new player to transfer into the Melty scene?"

Follow up question: "Would the gaming background of the player hurt his/her progress in learning melty? And if so, in what way?"
(Ex: A MBAC player vs. a non-MBAC player (A GG player or a SF4 player for example))

Just get a used ps2 or something, they're only like 60 bux, why risk it?

I don't understand what I'm risking. I need a new computer, so why not get one that can emulate games and kill two birds with one stone? I probably should get another PS2. I can get one here in Japan but they still run in the neighborhood of $100. I guess I can get a cheap one for $40 like you said and just use Swap Magic or something. I'll probably use both PS2 and Emulator. Like I said, I'm usually not home a lot so being able to play when I have down time at work or school is a big plus for me.  :)

Where in NJ are you 505?
I'm from a town called Bloomfield, It's between Newark and Montclair. I have family in Hackettstown so I'm also up that way a lot. So yea, North Jersey area.  :toot:

You know what would be a lot easier and cheaper to run MBAA with? PS2 + modded memory card

lol. yeah, It would be cheaper but my PS2 broke about 5 months ago. Since I have a PS3, I didn't really see a need to buy another one. I need to get a new computer anyway, so it's not like I'm going out of my way just for MBAA. Also with an emulator, I can play whenever I have free time. Which is usually downtime at work or school. I don't have to lug around a PS2 and find a TV, I can just use my Laptop since it's at my sides at all times.

Although if my PS2 was working, I would be playing it right now. >.<

I suggest you look through the characters, Watch some match videos for the characters http://www.youtube.com/user/MeltyBread, and pick a character who plays the way you like; or who seems cool to you. Sticking to a character and liking them is more important to learning the character than how easy they are anyways.

Very true. I was just asking if there were any characters like Youmu from IaMP since she is the one I'm most comfortable playing with. The characters that I would like to play would be C-Ryougi or H-Kohaku since they are the most interesting to me. Thanks for the link, I'll definitely be looking up potential charterers.

Thanks for the heads up Dark Pulse! This helps a lot! ;D Yea, I'm trying to Emulate on PCSX2. My current laptop is pushing 5 years old and it's age is showing. Would it be ok if I PMed you with some questions on some parts? I would rather not buy a PC and find out that it can't run MBAA smoothly. >.<

I'll try C.Nanaya when I get the chance. I don't know when's the next time I can get to the arcades though.

Yo. 505 here.

I'm relatively new to fighters. The only one I've played seriously is IaMP, which I've been playing whenever I can for about a year now. I love competitive games and was really into console FPSs for a while. Unfortunately playing nothing but FPSs got stale after 10 years and now I really would like to pick up fighters. I got some good advice saying that if I want to get better at IaMP I should try other fighters. (I feel stupid for not realizing this earlier  :P)

I played MBAA in an arcade in Osaka. I got pounded into the ground and probably spent about 3000 yen but it was so much fun. I could sit there for hours. The only problem is that I don't know how to use a stick. I've used a pad all my life (Even my year of IaMP was all pad action). I got a copy of MBAA but my PC can't run it decently. Getting a new computer soon so I hope that changes.

When I get back to NJ next month, I definitely want to start playing in some local events. I hope to learn a lot here and to have fun playing with all of you!

Oh, I forgot to say what character I play. I played Youmu in IaMP but I don't really know what character fits my playing style (if you can call it that...) in MBAA. I was thinking about C-Ryougi or H-Kohaku. Very open to suggestions.
