I went ahead and tried to stream using the spectate function with help from some local players. I'm gonna point the problems I had but keep in mind that internet in Brazil is far from stable and I was on wireless. Here is how we worked it out: Vinn and Onihime were playing, Arkhar and me were spectating on caster while talking on skype, meanwhile I was streaming my end through OBS. My notebook handled it smoothly the whole time, even through what appears to be 12x/16x game speed + broadcast.

- Both me and Arkhar experienced crashes with "broadcast is over" error message at random times, for me mostly between rounds.
- While reconnecting, since we needed some kind of sync to commentate, more crashes trying to speed things to the point where it crashed the last time, or the round after I got to that spot.
- After a few matches I asked them to wait in char select so we could regroup, after trying to fast forward I got stuck in char select, it never froze or crashed, and I had to close the program, while Arkhar told me he got to the next match just fine. So we asked them to close and start over a few times for resynching purposes, which can be a little burocratic (one hosts, the other connects and give it a green light so the others spec)

We did not touch the broadcast feature yet, may be something for another time. The result can be seen here for at least 2 days more, comments are in portuguese.

Overall, good stuff MadSci! The new features are pretty cool. Sadly it will be pretty hard for us to stream online matches yet.

Ciel's Tech Support / Re: netplay error

Well, I can't tell you what is wrong, but I can tell you what might fix it. Update your game to Rev 1.4 (and you might wanna use CCcaster 1.1 instead of native netplay + tool). In case it doesnt help, I guess delete it all and download it anew.

53
@Inso if the connection is really unstable, no amount of delay should help. Unless you mean slowdowns happen less with lower delay for the unstable connection.
Yes, that's what I mean. Not only happens more often, but the FPS drop is also much more intense in higher delay. Weird, right?

54
Oh yeah, sure, by downfall I only meant that she was never as relatively strong as in that game.

Well, I can see how having no fresh Ciel players would make you lose your boner after all that work. =/

As far as people not seeming to pay attention to the videos, it's no surprise to me I guess. I place little faith in other people, thus I don't usually write stuff because appareantly readind is hard. But content has purpose even in these situations, cuz when someone asks about something you've covered in a video/article, instead of explaing to them from square one you can say "watch this and come back when you have a REAL question". If they can't even do that, their heart is not in it anyway.

Anyway, I asked just because I know two people who are into Ciel.

55
Good stuff, Zar! Nice song choice also. There are not many Ciels since her downfall from AC =x

Any chance you'll put everything together for an ultimate Ciel tutorial video in the future?

Funny, the bunker thing for me is actually distance dependant, works as long as I'm not in her face and I buffer the bunker almost at the same time she releases the knife. I find it a little awkward to pull off sometimes =T

And you don't really need to devise counter-strats cuz there is a gap, small but it's there. You can mash shield and/or DP when you realize she left the grond.

58
@papagaio
Well, I think that if you're going to comment on caster, you should make comments on the quality over those delays, but that's just me

Good review, but you sound like a flight attendant xD

@Zar
madcaster, I liked that

@topic/madscientist
Increasing delay as an attempt to mitigate unstable connections still backfires, it generates a lot of slowdowns that don't happen at lower delay. Is that intended behaviour?

The same video from earlier has  AT 2a2c5c jbc jbc AT. Could this be infinitely looped?

Raw air throw (i.e. outside of a combo) ground bounces the opponent thus letting you combo off of it. So no, it can't be looped.

I would very much like to see one too although I don't think I'll be picking him up very soon, if that makes any difference.

61
Ian/DarkFlameMaster, right? Well, I guess the times we get beat up are the ones we tend to remember, huh. Salty people lol.

Here are the pictures I took with my cellphone, took long enough to post them.

- Melty room is now open pt1 (yeah, great shot)

- Melty room is now open pt2 (you'd think this one would be better)

- During the tournament

- We got togheter for lunch on sunday: Bluelink, Sushii, Voomer, Psykotik, Bill, Shinobi, MadSci, Ian
PS: you can see the ultimate stream monster experience on the table

- The one the waitress took with me in it and Sushii goes hidden

Man, you should get a new pad already. x_x
I think you can find some cheap ones for as much as $5 on amazon or something.

63
Yes, I only had desynchs in one set with that one player so far, and only when forcing D5. Tell me what you need and I'll do it. Do you lurk in mizuumi irc?

64
Reporting some weird stuff, I actually got real desynchs for the first time with caster.  The connection wasn't really all that stable but it detected delay 2 or sometimes 3, regular play with occasional hiccups, so we tried increasing delay to get more stability. D4 didn't quite cut it and when we tried 5 we consistently got desynchs. Literally every match, mostly first round.

A similar thing happened with another dude, d2 with very few hiccups or dropped inputs, and when we tried d3 amazingly there were slowdowns instead of hiccups. Could have been coincidence, but we played about three matches like that and went back to d2, which proved to be slowdown free.

Otherwise, 1.1 seems a lot better than previous versions, good stuff Mad!

About FSei, if you really like her keep grinding until you can do character specific stuff, if that seems too much of a bother wait for the next version...

Because the way this game plays, if to get your setplay on you can't reach even 3k damage you're pretty much screwed (take it from a F-nanaya player).

lol, that takes me back to Cadenza days... oh Ciel, how I hated you back then.

Well, you mentioned hiero so I'm assuming C. The thing to note is, there is a rock-paper-scissors to every fighting game, and you will need to take risks against players who gamble like that. Just remember to think about risk/reward and the right counter to the move he's using.

I don't see Ciels nowadays but I don't think 2C is a good move to mash, good pressure is the key here. Stagger, reverse beat and IAD. If I'm not mistaken 2CC isn't cancelable on whiff, right? Shouldnt be hard to let him hang himself on neutral. You have charged teleport to punish his projectiles if he abuses it.

Mashing loses to meaty, but if he is mashing on wakeup and you're letting him, I'll assume you're afraid of reversals. There are ways to beat reversals, one is reversing controls (which nanaya can do easily, but in her case it's worthless - 236C <> 214C, 22C) one is option select (won't work on EXs), which leaves you only with baiting.

22C and 236C lose to block, 214C loses to jump behind or shield->jump get air hit (recover towards her and then punish). You'll notice that all of those are meter dependant, so do what you can to deny her meter and if she is out of it go for oki without fear. The thing is, you can't do meaty and block at the same time, so you'll have to make sure that when he guesses wrong you're gonna hit him harder than he will you when he guesses right, which is not hard.

Then if he starts gambling shield or backdash on wakeup, you're gonna have to outsmart him with high/low oki or bait and OS's.

tl;dr practice pressure to objectively beat 2CC mashing, bait neutral 2CC, practice punish combos for blocked reversals and make sure your yomi is on point. Also, if he is predictable whith 2CC, shield/DP can help you too.

PS: you can low profile 22B with 2A/B/C oki if I'm not mistaken, so I didn't even acknowledge that as a reversal.

Maybe someone else (butterfree?) can provide better insights since it's been a while since I played C-7ya or that matchup, lol

SOMEBODY MAKE THIS FRONT PAGE NEWS ALREADY!

Like Arkhar said, we tested 1.0c, he was in XP using ps2 pad if i'm not mistaken, and I was in Win7 home in a netbook, my PS360+ seemed to work fine (not sure as which system tho). I felt some inputs were droping very rarely (1/700 so to speak) but it could as easily just be me being derpy. Can't say much about the delay improvement since when the planets are in the right aligmnent we usually get something similar with regular netplay, but the combos were much easier to perform and some level of spiking is normal between us. Gonna need to test some more, oh what trouble!

Just a feature sugestion that I think would be pretty simple to do, when you host make so it copies your IP+port to clipboard, like the regular network mode does.

68
Source code would still be appreciated even if it's not caster based. Because I'm curious.
I second that, no smaller size text tho, since I'd actually like to help with something.

When you've released it, you were prepared to be everyone's slave right? =D

Shiki Nanaya / Re: F-Nanaya General Discussion

IMHO, 214A oki isn't as good for F-Nanaya as the rekka knockdown is. F-Nanaya doesn't have the directional BE22B teleports, and he flourishes better in a situation where opponents have to make minute decisions on which-way and high/low with the rekkas.

That said, double side-switching with fastfall -> 22B -> warui ne/whatever or 214A -> 22A -> whatever gimmicks are hilarious.
Well, I have to hold that since you actually played me and saw what I did xD
But I think the mixup potencial when you do near corner 214A oki is insane, the mixups are that much better that it doesnt matter if the opponent has 1 second longer to think about it, he's gonna have to guess sometimes.

Is it practical to learn the 2C 214B (cross) for midscreen?  I found you can do a microdash 2C 214A against some characters after 214B.
I've never seen that done midscreen, could you make a video of it or save a training dummy? I've tried doing dash back 2A/2B and can't seem to get the hang of it. But hey, that doesnt mean anything, my execution isnt good, maybe you can do it if you practice hard enough.

In some characters you can add a little damage midscreen by doing 2C 214B and then B rekkas. Works on: Nero, Wallachia, Ries, Miyako, Kohaku, Kouma... can't remember any others right now.

@hipikachu
immediatly after you press the button for the flip kick you buffer 228, it should work. Somehow I have to delay it a little to get it consistently.

Shiki Nanaya / Re: F-Nanaya General Discussion

Well, I actually play F-Nanaya (which I'll be refering to by Funya as of now) and I can give you a few tips too if my opinion means anything.

I can agree with all the information in this thread except this one:
5C is actually really good anti air, especially now that it's more active.
Funya's 5C IIRC has 4 or 5 active frames, so it sucks for antiair by my standards despite working along with 5A to catch jump out attempts. It's hitbox is very different from H-Nanaya or F-Shiki's 5C, which are definately really good.

- Pressure: his tools are instant divekick, 5B, 2A and fear of counterhit rekka.

Instant divekick will be plus on block as long as it doesnt connect at the shoulder or higher with a medium height char, in which case they can challenge your 3 frame 2A and maybe even win. Two things that can blow it up are shields and chicken blocks, althought you can make shield counters whiff by angling the divekick certain ways, it's not really a reliable strategy cuz it can get blown up by other stuff.

5B is +1 on block but it's pretty shitty because you have very little time to cancel it and it pushes back a lot, most of the time you'll have to commit to a confirm or risk losing combos, but if you get the other player to respect it you can extend pressure with it. Fun fact, anytime you get a counter hit 5B, you can link another 5B.

2A is plus on block, and you can do some gay 2AAA dash in 2AAA Full Moon pressure as long as the other player isn't mashing. 2A 5A 2A string catches mashing, along with other staggers.

The 1st 236A you do is something like -3/5 on block, so you can use it for string resets although it's a little risky. If you time the 2nd 236A properly it will beat mashing and keep him scared. I suggest you always buffer another 236 behind it and on reaction to:
* ground hit: press A again to gain oki.
* counter hit: ideally you should go for the 5B link combo but well, good luck cuz it's a tight link. Alternativaly you can try 236C but depending on timing 236A will come out anyway.
* air hit: don't press anything or you might eat a punish after he techs the OTG.
Whenever the second rekka gets blocked is where you have little options other than stop pressure.

- Gameplan: respect neutral because you'll rarely win head on, but go for 2B+rekka or 214B when you think he's not expecting it. Funya's backdash, 214B and 623BB are pretty good escape options, specially 623BB if the other player is not used to punishing it. If the opponent jumps in too much, start DP'ing his ass for free 3k damage. Funya's raw airthrow can be pretty damaging with the right combos, so go for it when you see a chance. Keep him guessing when you get pressure and fish for counterhits with divekick, and if you notice he's respecting go for tick throws, "5{C}/5[C] + teleport" shennanigans or straight up jump/IAD fastfall mixups. 5[C] by itself is a slow overhead, but the good point is it moves you forward so the range is misleading for an overhead normal. Use that feature smartly and you might hit people with it.

Other than that, I don't like burning meter on 236C for combo enders unless it's the easy hitconfirm into kill or a hard punish because:
*IH on Funya is pretty scary for safe DP and crossup/non-crossups rekka IH cancels, and the occasional Spark to get out of combos.
* 236C knockdown doesnt get me better oki options than 2C+rekkas knockdown aside from maybe a universal safejump.
* double DP combos do more damage (despite losing oki).
But that's just me.

Oh, and please ppl, for the love of all that is holy.... when you're going for oki and you're near corner, do 2C 214B (cross) 2C 214A instead of 5C/2C rekka. It's unspeakably better. Other Funya players (even the japanese) just derp rekka combos all day and everytime I see that shit it makes me rage.

If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help.

I meant the new design, in every other media (CP excluded) she looked more like a grown woman. So the remake lost that older female flavor with this new design imho.

I didn't like Arc much because in my mind she was the "mature beauty" in the series (despite acting otherwise) and now she looks just as pubescent as the rest of the cast. It looks good but feels like a different character.

74
...why didn't you tell me you were going :(

Thanks, Pete!I didn't contact you directly because I thought it wouldn't amount to anything, since I asked in this thread if you guys were coming and Tim said no. I assumed you knew about it. Would you have gone, just for me? =O

SHOUTOUTS!

- Larry, thanks for supporting Melty even when the scene looks bleak. Damn, your events are welcoming and well executed. If only we had that in Brazil.

- How come everytime you look at Bill he is smiling?

- MadScientist, you play waaaaay too smart. I'm actually mad about that, fuck you. I'd tell you to try using Hitbox too, but your keyboard is just so cool.

- LK and Generic, thanks for the insights and tips on how to improve my game, you guys are the best. Congrats to LK for taking three 1st places in FR, aside from being a talented voice actor.

- Viet, it's only when you get counterhit by divekick in the air that you realize how bullshit that move is, lol. Good shit dude, much respect to fellow Nanaya players... so long as they stay clear of my color (jk)

- Shinobi, thanks for running the brackets and sleeping through teams xD Man, you were frantic in there, I don't think you ever stayed in place for long.

- Voomer, your mirror matches with Generic were fucking hype to watch. Let's hang out again if we're fated, and good luck with Arcana meets KOF, lol

- ShinsoBEAM, too bad I could not find you sunday, wish we could've played some more.

@everyone plus Living Shadow, ComicZ, sushii, dollar, ZomB, guy from Waterloo whose name I so shamefully forgot right now but kicked my ass with F-Akiha and plays MorriDoomVergil.
It was great meeting/playing/hanging with you. I really feel those were good matches despite my bitchiness when I dropped stuff and I really, really hope we get to play again sometime.

Wish I could have played the rest of the atendants, but my Hitbox was geting fixed for the most time people were doing casuals. Hell, I even got to play Sp00ky on monday when we were both waiting at the hotel. Somehow, he still got his shit down.

It's funny how the game is supposed to be dead, and yet pretty much everyone I played kept telling me how they love it and wish they could play it more often. It's pretty sad too.

And sorry if I forgot to mention someone, I just got to my aunt's apartment in Sao Paulo and I'm still pretty sleepy from the whole trip.

75
I've used one for a year now and I can say its pretty good.
