Arcueid is generally a safe bet, but you should be trying different characters regularly if that's of concern.  Nero and the Necos are the clear outliers, but overall Melty Blood doesn't have that much in terms of character specifics.

Also, keep in mind that your damage output on the training dummy will vary per character as well.

Thanks for the help guys.

Quick question; in multiple videos, I've seen CMiyako players do a j.C j.22C on j.22C oki before and it hits every time.  (Here's one example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27yE0hvARXg&feature=youtu.be&t=23m53s , although I've seen it in at least 3 other videos).  Is there something I'm missing here, or is it really just as simple as the enemy player wasn't aware that the move hits low?

I have a friend who's trying to learn Melty, and he's pretty dead set on C-Miyako I think, so I'm trying to find out some of the best things for him to work on, but Miyako has remarkably little documentation in terms of combos and such.  From what I can tell, they're all pretty simple, and I can't find much that would be useful from match videos that isn't in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GILIxg2SREc .  I'd appreciate if somebody told me otherwise, or if there's something notable about certain moves that changes damage proration in unexpected ways, etc.

For what it's worth, he hasn't explored the other moons much.  I have to point out that not only is he learning Melty, but this is his first fighting game, so I'm also putting him through 236 and 623 drills because those are new to him (it might take him a while to get j.623a j.623c consistently), as well as explaining all the concepts behind mixups, oki, frame advantage, etc.  He's got a competitive mindset from RTS and MOBA games and is a fast learner, but is F moon significantly easier, particularly in execution?

Thanks for any help.

So much for me helping, you guys are too fast and efficient.

It's like the opposite of high school group projects.  This time I do nothing and get to reap all the benefits.  :toot:

CVA's weird j.A(A)B air combos are so weird, I never remember to do it and end up finishing combos too early.

EDIT: Do people still do Momijis? I heard the proration was really nerfed.

As far as I'm aware, the oki from Momiji is still too good to pass up most of the time.

This is turning into something weird, but is very funny :D
But I would like to know if there are people here able to talk like this about other characters.

As far as I can tell, V-Akiha isn't really more popular than many other characters.  This discussion really just happened because Master_Rahl brought up the infinites and I was shocked in my naivety.

If you want to look into other characters, the wiki that Sacchin 22A posted is where I get a large chunk of my information, and then you can go the specific sub-boards for your character of interest and browse through the threads or ask questions.  To this day I'm still surprised at how quickly and actively people reply.

EDIT: I'd suggest C-VAkiha over C-Aoko, if only because I think C-Aoko is a really high skill cap character that takes a lot more practice than you'd see with other characters.  I used to play C-VAkiha for a while before I switched to F-VAkiha because I wasn't really satisfied with the results I was getting, but you could be different.

Funky-Kun has a lot of great information on her here, and you may also find some good info on the wiki here, although keep in mind that the information from this wiki will give you V-Akiha info from the previous version of the game, Actress Again.  Most of it should still be relevant, though.

Did you know her 22s make her projectile immune? Dodge knifes and ice all day.

This thread is really turning my life upside down, you know that?  I guess I got content with what I learned with V-Akiha and never really expanded on it.

Thanks heavymetalmixer for the amazing thread.  :toot:

Blissful ignorance.

This is kinda my thought too.

-Once you learn how it works, it's just a matter of grinding until the execution becomes muscle memory.
-As far as I can tell, she can go into it midscreen off of any j.C or j.214X hit on grounded opponents.
-She has the opportunity to go into it off every knockdown she gets.
-In the corner, she can go into a blockstring with it that like does massive chip damage (for this game).
-Which she can use the block stun of to air dash back in and get mix-ups, which may or may not lead
  back into the 22 blockstring.

I see jp players use it in matches often enough, but never in tourney.

Guess I didn't really give it enough of a chance.  Wasn't aware that she could start it off of more practical things, and I must admit, haven't really spent more than 10 minutes in training mode on it.  I just know that too many 22 motions gives me a cramp.

I have messed around with using it on block though, I just can only get about half as many as you'd see in those videos before I hit the ground.

I can't imagine a soft ban happening for that.  At least for me, the execution requirement on these infinites is a bit too extreme to ever worry about it enveloping a competitive environment, not to mention they tend to require really specific setups off of, at the very least, a hard knockdown and some sort of mixup.

You might also enjoy Aoko.  She has two airdashes as well and a lot of neat tricks, gimmicks, and projectile options.  Shiki Tohno and Nanaya might also be to your liking, as they both, while lacking in air mobility, tend to have extremely fast ground options and amazing normals.  And, like TheMaster_Rahl suggested, Sion and also VSion I'd say have a similar feel to Bang and Yosuke in a few ways, although they tend to have some really stubby normals.

I'd have to say Akiha Vermillion.

In terms of overall "speed" I don't think anybody really compares.  Her ground and air dashes go incredibly far and very quick, she has TWO airdashes (Bang did as well) and fast normals.  Another comparison to Bang and especially Yosuke is that, at least for full moon, she has semi-spammable ranged and projectile options that at the very least are a nuisance.  Crescent and Half have some cool tools as well if you prefer them.

V-Akiha can be seen as sort of an "Akuma" character in that she has a lot of great tools and is really powerful, but if she's on the receiving end she has one of the lowest health modifiers in the game and can die pretty quickly.  Her reversal options are also pretty weak, although that's not that uncommon in Melty Blood as only a handful do and it usually requires a fair amount of meter.  It's up to you to never get hit, which is a bit easier with her than most.

As you can tell by my avatar, I'm clearly not biased in the slightest.

I'm really tempted to donate enough so that Melty isn't the bottom game anymore.  Might just take 20 dollars.

If somebody does it with me, I'll chip in 10.

EDIT: Oh wait, I thought donating ended tomorrow.  Guess it's over?

I get this all the time.  It's usually because I have a controller set up for P2 that isn't actually there, so TexasTim is right.

I just play roulette and try to reach the part of the menu that I want instead of restarting, though.

I got a shoutout for the 2 videos I did!  Awww yeaaah.

You guys did a fantastic job on this.  Pretty awesome you got a news post on SRK too.  I'm busy with moving back in to school and the first week of classes is always hectic, but I'll be sure to help out in a bit with some videos.

16
I feel so good at this game now.

17
I was thinking about donating to Melty, but after seeing the current results...nah.

18
I'd love to join, but I can't host matches, only join them.  My dorm room internet is pretty solid, but being a public network, I don't have the tools to port forward properly.

Think this would be a problem?

Sometimes it will come out and do something unintentionally cool, though, and freak the hell out of your opponent.

Where's the tournament going to be held?  By the looks of it, there will definitely not be room in the main area.

If the tournament doesn't go through I'm still game for casuals any time though.

EDIT: Apparently the tournament will be held in my room, 161.

EDIT: IT'S IN 137 NOW

24
636-375-2202 is my number, text or call me anytime and we can play, I'll most likely have my PC and my 360 stick ready to go.  Otherwise I'll just make it to that side tournament I guess.  I'm not entering any main tournaments so I should always be ready for a game.

EDIT: I'm in room 161 if anybody wants to drop by (tournament is in 137).  There's two of us here that may be interesting in playing, and we've got a setup.

Melty Blood Auditorium / Re: So where do we go from here?

I'm not sure how much I have to say here; I'm a random person from the midwest with a pretty okay fighting game scene in St. Louis.  A lot of people play a variety of games here, and I'd say there's about 3 or 4 of us that play the game.  It's fun, and we love it.

The problem is that the game just doesn't have that mass appeal factor.  Many see it as "that weaboo game," which I never did, but to be fair, the cast of characters originated from an erotic visual novel.  Others still think it's infamous for the stupidity of 2A, which as I understand stopped being a "problem" several versions ago.  I have one friend in particular that just thinks the graphics are horrendous, so maybe there's that.  And lastly and most importantly, it's PC only and it costs 200 dollars.

Fighting games are the hardest genre to make an e-sport because of how unreasonable it is to play it online, something other genres can handle.  That, and fighting games are harder to learn and get into; especially considering the almost "mandatory" requirement to buy a fightstick that can cost over a hundred dollars, and the stigma that not doing so might ever so slightly be holding you back.  The only thing that can counteract some of this is to have an enormous scene with a game popular to casuals that everybody knows, like Marvel or Street Fighter.  Even Blazblue appears to have died out, and that was a major release.

So, in conclusion, Melty Blood is fun and some people will play it, but ultimately it's probably going to piggy-back off of other more popular fighting games that can keep the community rolling.  Go to majors for other games, and play with the few others that show up to play Melty.
