Kohaku's Magical Garage / Re: MBAA crouching hitbox height tiers
« on: July 27, 2010, 12:22:31 AM »
Okay, so the tiers are for the hitboxs and not the collision boxes.

While I was working on various oki setups for W.Len using super jump to push people into my 421b, i noticed that some characters (Lolis, Akiha, and Ciel) have smaller collision boxes than the rest of the E-tiers (Sion, Ries, etc...). I don't have any real exact numbers so if you can look into that, that'd be fantastic.

Well this isn't quite Sac, but there's a SSF4 tourney going on in Lodi next week (sunday, the 25th). I got permission to setup Melty on the side for casual play and stuff. Those who are bored, stop by the Grapevine Comic Book store (http://www.yelp.com/biz/comic-grapevine-lodi-2).

EDIT: I dunno how I got my dates wrong.

As someone who regularly attends the NorCal Install tourneys, I'd like to thank TaoFTW for taking the inniative since January for setting up tournaments for games that get considerably less play. I've begun to notice that it's difficult to find non-SSF4 tournaments in NorCal so anyone who's trying to gather Guilty Gear and especially Melty is a massive risk for failure.

However, what NorCal Install has taught me is that the community is too strong to fail. Shit, I've been traveling out of Stockton to attend these tourneys even though I've been going 0-2 every month. Up until now, I've had opinions on the venue hopping every other month. Some of them good, some of them bad. But at the end of the day, I appreciate attending tournaments for games no one else would throw.

As for the Berkeley tourney, I'm hype. Typically EVO drains everyone's fighting spirit, but it seems like all the Melty players up here are energized after EVO weekend. I don't get to travel out to the weekly casuals, so minor's like these gives me the outlet to unleash what i've learned in a months time.

tl;dr = Haters are goin' to hate. Personally, I appreciate what you're doing and I'll be there at Berkeley.

Tournament Results / Re: EVO 2010 Results - Garuhara Answers

Thanks guys, I've heard nothing but good things from our Japanese visitors and I'm glad that EVO was great for everyone. We couldn't get ECOLE to support more but none the less, look like it was a big success. I asked Garu a couple of after-thought questions and this is what he had to say:

Quote
Q: Compare American and Japanese play styles, any impressions on the two?

A: Looking at American players compared to Japan, I noticed that Americans play really "politely." They don't really reversal and etc too much so in that respect, it was easier to fight them.

This made me laugh
Same. I kinda noticed that people weren't doing anything vs. Garu's rushdown in the early matches in teams. So when I played him, I dp'd a lot of his advances.

This was my first EVO in fuckin' 5 years. I had a bomb ass time playing everyone.

Shoutouts to Mizuki, Silent Shinobi and Dippy for being at that one party, getting hella drinks, and showing me where all the Melty shit was
Shoutouts to Dippy hotel casuals
Shoutouts to Garu for fuckin' up my shit on stream
Shoutouts to Tempered for hosting that stream
Shoutouts to all the people who brought MBAA into the BYOC
Shoutouts to RiotBlade for teaming with me at the team tourney
BIG shoutout to Chelsea for anchoring hella hard for my team, covering all our inexperienced matchups, and just being a chill ass dude to kick it with. Matsuoka Shizo is GDLK
Shoutouts to NorCal, except for YAT for OCV'ing my entire team at the team tourney
Shoutouts to Kusanagi for beating Garu and getting me money on a sidebet.
Shoutouts to Ohkal-fuckin-homa for showing up. Playing KosMos like 30 games straight definitely stepped up my game on Saturday.
Shoutouts to Everyone else I played and got blown up by. After playing the same people for the last 6 months, it's hella fun running matches against different characters once in a while.

Evo was fun but I'm sad that I couldn't stick around one more day to watch the finals. That team tourney was hype as shit, props for Kusa on winning me some extra bank to go into the tank home. BTW if anyone at EVO is reading this, tell chelsie that I had fun teaming with him and is sorry i couldn't say goodbye in person.

146? Niiice
I was disappointed that you didn't show up. I wanted to get blown up by you since we would of met in tourney.

Had fun kickin' it with everyone durin' Fanime. I'll try out my poverty H-Hisui next ranbat 'cause F-W.Len ain't there yet.

60
If anything, I know I'll be able to hit up fanimoo so there's at least 1 guarantee entry right there. Just don't pull any of that 7:00 am tourney time shit like in '08.

61
Sorry y'all but I won't be making it down for this upcoming tourney unless someone is coming through via Sacramento. That means, there will be 1 less MBAA station and 1 less commentator (like i do a great job at it or anything :emo: )

We the best man. We deed dit.

63
GG's to everyone I played. Next time I should play more casuals instead of messing around on 3S and all that other jazz. See y'all next month, 'cause I think wat I really need to work on is just character matchup experience. I'm getting rocked by shit I dunno how to counter.

Also I recommend you learn MahJong it gets played almost every session earlier in the day.
Wait, what? damn I wish I can travel down that bitch every week now.

65
From what I've seen at the tourney, a lot of people did not know what to expect vs. NAC. Aside whiffing staple pokes, a lot of people were getting hit by random specials - notably EX beam. Shit, in casuals I was getting rolled by EX Bambi. Aside from that, I give a lot of respect to Qaenyin for traveling a shit-ton of miles to give the NorCal scene a nice reality check. Let's not get trolled by this next time.

66
Oh snaps, that was quick gettin' the next ranbat set up. Anyways, i'll be dropping by again so I can bring my setup. Should I bring a TV?

67
GGs to everyone I've played. Though I went 0-2 with very little practice, I feel like I came out of the ranbat stronger after all the casuals. The great diversity among the players yesterday was really interesting.

Big ups to Tao for hosting another wonderful tourney and I'll see everyone next month.

Wish i could drop by and get my MBAA bars up, but i'm prolly going to drink myself silly. Finally turnin' 21 that weekend. :prinny:

69
I had a blast kickin' it with everyone the other day. Can't complain with 5th place after losing to shenanigans i've never been on the receiving end of. GG's to everyone I've played and i'm going back to the labs to work on more W.Len tricks.

70
Yeah the Melty Blood tourny is legit. I don't know if we'll need a third MBAA setup though or if we'll even have the room for it.
Actually, I was talking about Starcraft. :prinny:

What the? Where was this thread when I was playin' MBAC?

Anyways, I'm DJcream possibly the only serious Melty Blood player in Stockton. If there's any sessions being planned in Sac, I can make some buses up there.

72
Haven't posted here in forever, but seeing a Melty Blood tournament happen in NorCal is enough to bring me back. Imma see if I can catch a ride down there. If I do, then I can bring in a complete setup (TV, PS2 w/ MBAA, surge outlet).

Is that side tourney legit? If it is, I'll invite a dude or two for it.

Updated the rules. Sorry for acting like a punk but I've patched things up between myself and the rest of the guys. Anyways, hope to see a lot of entries on Saturday and hopefully I'll have enough free time because I hear SJSU gots that Street Fighter IV in.

Tournaments and Events / Re: NorCal Ranbat @ SJSU -8/30/08-

dunno, lol, but maybe DJcream has no idea what the word "ranbat" means, considering IT'S THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD THAT'S ON A FORUM FOR MELTY BLOOD.  Is this a ranbat or not?  Niggas need to make up their minds.
Well here's my take on this. Originally I was told by Qwerty and Starkill (the people who are runnin' the GG side of the tourney) to ask get MB on board for their "grand tournament". Since I'm younger than the both of them, I don't hold as much influence (gee, no surprise). As much as I told them that 1 weeks notice isn't the smartest thing in the world, they're still going to run with it. Since I can't seem to tell them what to do, I guess I'll just bend their rules a bit...

1) Registration from 12-4pm is bullshit. Knowing how people are, they'll just show up the last hour anyways so why waste time? I want people to register by 2pm so we can get this shit started.

2) 3v3 Teams is also retarded, unless we get like 24 heads to fill a bracket. I think it's smarter to just run 2v2s. In addition, I don't think these guys would know to give a ranbat points in team tourneys anyways...

3) Pot 60% / 20% / 10% sounds really suspicious to me. Unless they tell me where that last 10% is going (and if it benefits the MBAC side of things) then I'd refuse to give up that remaining 10%.

4) Single-elim for singles is stupid. We got all day to run double-elim brackets because MBAC doesn't take as long as lets say CvS2 or freakin' Smash Brawl. In addition, I'm sure we can get multiple laptop setups. As for teams, I'm not so sure about that. I may keep it at single elim unless numbers say otherwise.

Anyways, that's my opinion on the tournament. And for all who attend the MBAC side of the tournament, you all have my word that I will follow through on those 4 points. Once qwerty and them figure out that I decided to run shit a little differently, they might not invite me to run another tournament I really don't give a damn. As long as I get to run a tournament to sits well with the people who attend and with myself, I can sleep easy. After all, I'm thinkin' about transferin' to SJSU next year anyways so it's not like they're going to hold me back academically anyways.
