I find it important when learning a game to alternate between vids/study and actual play. Alternate a lot. Watch vids between each sessions and try to pick up small elements you see and apply them to your following games. Even if sometimes you don't know why they do it, trying to apply it yourself will give you a better perspective, so when you go back to watching the vids you may understand more. This can lead to lots of mistakes, but that's how you learn and the more mistakes you make the faster you'll learn... hopefully.
On match vids, I often hear people talk about how overwhelmed they are watching them. They have no idea what's going on and feel like they can't learn anything from them. It's important to focus on individual things one at a time. This can be blockstrings, movement (do they jump or airdash a lot?), moves and tactics used for zoning, etc. Try to ignore everything not related to what you are currently studying. The human brain can't store everything you'll see in a full video in its short term memory.
Just make sure you're watching good players.
