Melty Breadcast / Re: Weekly Questions for BreadCast
« on: December 29, 2010, 08:31:43 AM »
1. How did each of you approach learning Melty (from whatever other fighting games you had played before)?

2. How do you go about learning a new character? Do you copy/paste other players' playstyles, or do you try to integrate your playstyle in?

3. How do you guys play match ups that you haven't prepared for/don't know at all?

4. How do you guys prep for match ups? Anything different when prepping for a disadvantageous match up?

Sorry if any are repeats. Those are all I could think up. Go~

at that point u might as well put in the ender with the knife toss and the rekkas, thats probably the less harder part.

That ruins the whole point of ending with 2C though.

2C 2A(whiff) lets you end with a L/R mixup, but it's not very safe for H-Ryougi. I'd prefer to just get corner knockdown with her and just keep the other person there with some of the safest oki. If she ends with 2C 2A then you'll be more vulnerable to invincible reversals and heats.

Personally, I like the L/R mix-up a lot. AFAIK you still have advantage even after the roll. So if you guess dp, then you can still block and if you guess heat, you can still shield/jump/backdash. I don't think it's really any more vulnerable than other oki. She also has pretty mediocre high/low mix-ups, and if you just go for guard crushes, people can ex-guard you all day, or ex-guard and jump out.

You should probably learn the combo both ways regardless. You can't count on getting a j.c hit confirm. And to me, it feels like there's also a slight delay between 2c and 6aaa to me.

You should probably also try getting down the beginning of the corner combo that MissedFRC mentioned since it seems to be the most damaging corner BnB, and it can lead to a strong oki setup.

@WADE: the thing with 214A is you need to delay it after 6AAA. It's something like half a sec delay, but your 214A needs to hit the enemy lower so that the enemy doesn't have enough time in the air to tech before your 2C connects. I'll upload a vid later.

The thought of double catch never even crossed my mind. You must be some sort of genius.
Is there any significant difference in between using 2c tk236B and 3c tk236B?

@wade I always feel like I delay for quite a while before I hit 2c. So if it's constantly whiffing, you might be doing it too early. Just mess around with it in practice mode.

As for 2c and 3c, I'm pretty sure 3c prorates more. In addition, each move might cause you to be spaced differently, which could matter when doing a corner combo on a character like Kohaku or Tohno Shiki.

Melty Blood Auditorium / Re: Optimizing Practice
« on: November 05, 2010, 02:37:27 PM »
In practice mode, grind combos, block strings and reacting/hit confirming to aerial CHs and guard breaks and guard crushes. You can also practice comboing from moves from different distances (2b from 1 character length away, 5b from 1.5 character lengths away, etc) and work that into your muscle memory. Once you feel you have a solid enough grasp on the basics of your character, you can start working on damage optimization, fancy mix up, etc.

If you want to feel more competitive in matches, you can use simple combos (things you know you can hit 99% of the time) and instead, focus your spacing, movement, mix up, oki, hit confirming, blocking, and yomi.

If able, record your matches and watch them. It lets you pick up on your bad habits, and you'll be able to more easily see patterns and holes in your game play.

Also, ask for advice from better players after playing long sets against them. They should be able to offer you some advice, either about the match up or issues they've noticed with your game play.

Probably not showing up this time.

Posting just to say that LoL is for girly men who suck at DotA (and thus HoN).

/troll

I take it that you're still grinding that HoN then.

Full list of Ryougi changes, please correct me where I'm wrong.

source: http://www20.atwiki.jp/ryougisiki/pages/33.html

Overall:
Larger Knife pickup range
Arc Drive and AAD have longer unblock detection ranges.
2C got nerfed
Last Arc damage was changed (no specifics yet, but I'm 99% sure that they would nerf it from doing 7k no matter what)

H-Moon:
j.B/j.6B are slower
3C was changed (no specifics yet)
4C is slower
Some nerf regarding knife catches. I think they have landing lag now?

This makes me sad.

OS Shield counter with airdodge (Works only on H-moon and F-moon)
---Air normal of choice > j.c2e [REQUIRES 50% METER]
For example with Warakia, you would do j.b > j.c2e
If they block it, nothing will happen and you can just continue pressure afterwards
If they shield it, you will immediately cancel the j.b into a air dodge avoiding the shield counter.
This is EXTREMELY useful for when you don't have an extra jump left for the other shield counter OS (jump back block).
THIS DOES NOT WORK AGAINST C-MOON EX SHIELDS, ex shield 5a will counter hit you 100%. (In arcade it used to beat C-moon Ex-shields, but not anymore because of increased startup on air-dodge)

Actually, H-moon can cancel a blocked aerial move into dodge (for some amount of meter). So I'm pretty sure you'll end up air dodging regardless.

If you time the airdash correctly, it uncrosses up when the wake up. I'll see if I can't record it sometime.

You should actually read through ehrik's response. It explains why that doesn't matter.

:blah:

Help us find VENUES!  Hit confirm as many as you can!

 :blah:

There's this one LAN place in Berkeley called Eudemonia that might work. It's like a few blocks from the downtown Berkeley BART station, so it's fairly accessible. Not sure how much they'd charge for venue fee though. Their website is just eudemonia.net and contact info should be up on there.

Thanks guys, I've heard nothing but good things from our Japanese visitors and I'm glad that EVO was great for everyone. We couldn't get ECOLE to support more but none the less, look like it was a big success. I asked Garu a couple of after-thought questions and this is what he had to say:

Quote
Q: Compare American and Japanese play styles, any impressions on the two?

A: Looking at American players compared to Japan, I noticed that Americans play really "politely." They don't really reversal and etc too much so in that respect, it was easier to fight them.

This made me laugh.

Also, good to finally meet everyone, and GGs to all those I played.

Posting here and in other NorCal thread, I might be in SF July 4th weekend, is everyone going to AX?

Call me, I'll be able to play not July 4th. If you don't have my number pm me on irc.

Let me know if you guys plan something out. I'll still be around on those dates.

Thinking of having a session at my house this saturday.

Who has interest?!?

Depends... how does your sister look?

 :prinny:

Just realized Rod's having a session on Saturday again. What about friday?

Actually, let's get a head count of who would be up for saturday. Since Evo is soon and Rod's place is GG.

I'd be down if I can secure a ride (like last time).
