I heard you guys liked the AM series of events at bellreisa's house. Well too bad because now it's called Povertfest. Come see me in September, where I will host some of the worst commercially bought(and a few emulated ones, we'll see) games ever made, then MAKE YOU PLAY THEM. There will be a random game "tournament", consisting of games from the legendary Book of Poverty™®©. For those that don't know what it is, come see me at Evo. lol i'm not going to evo :dealwithit:

Details(stolen from AM7 last Povertfest thread w/e)
Time: Sept 28 -Oct 1, 2011 (early arrivals welcome, late departures not as much)
Place: Bellhaus @ Temecula
Events: Poverty, drinking, eating horrible food, poverty (I like poverty)
Venue: $10 (same as AM7last year, if the turnout is remotely the same)

A Quick FAQ For Those Who Have Never Been to Bellhaus
This is a house gathering at our place that lasts the whole weekend. Bell has two cats, so bring meds if needed. You will need to provide your own sleeping gear and toiletries(I highly suggest you bring a pillow, and a blanket/sleeping bag). There's a spare mattress upstairs that's first come first serve, and I bought 3 cots. THIS STILL DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULDN'T TRY TO BRING SOMETHING TO SLEEP IN/ON/UNDER.
We usually chill, play a lot of fighting(or "other" :iiam: ) games, watch terrible movies or random shit on Youtube, go out to eat, and drink. There is a $10 venue charge.

How do I get there?
Ontario Airport(ONT) is fairly cheap and is the closest and easiest airport to get to. From there it is highly suggested to find some sort of ride, as Bell/Aika can't pick all you bums up at once and I have a 1 seater motorcycle.

If you're driving, then more often than not you know how to get to the house, but PM one of us(me/Bell) if you need the addy.

*NEW* If enough people can decide on a single time/day to show up I can help in getting a van or some shit from the airport. There are a few options but I will definitely need time and CONFIRMED heads to make this work. Otherwise you guys are gonna have to spend :bux: to get down here because other than Greyhound there's no such thing as speedy public transportation here. :cardcrush:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A RETURN PLAN.

Why are you charging venue for a house gathering...

1. You niggas break shit
2. You niggas eat everything
3. You niggas run up our electric bill(everything will be on pretty much all weekend)
*NEW*4. You niggas throw up on the carpet
*NEW*5. You niggas cut yourselves on cans of ravioli, wasting my bandaids

Can I like... not pay venue?

Bring something else. But bring something. Alternatively if you can beat me ft3 in Rival Schools 1 your fee will be waived.

EDIT: If you intend to attempt to waive your venue fee, you must post here and let me know what you are bringing or if you are dumb enough to play me

What if I forget?

I'll be shaking you down. You don't want me to shake you down.

*NEW* I swear to god if you come up here dead broke  :words:

Tournament Results / Re: Final Round XV Results!
« on: March 06, 2012, 11:30:28 AM »
Hi, I started writing a really long post and changed my mind because nobody's going to read all that shit. So here is a condensed version instead.

This is one of the best tournaments I've ever attended. Between the level of competition, the venue, the area, the atmosphere and my personal goals, everything worked out extremely well. I placed decently (considering my circumstances), I got high and drunk, did okay on commentary and carried out the biggest troll of my FG career. It's going to be hard to top this.

- Big ups to St1ckBuG and Kilvear for providing most of my sponsorship. I hope it was well worth it.
- Huge thanks to Larry for hosting the event in light of recent personal issues.
- Respect to SilentShinobi for running the tournament.
- Props to America for taking out the JP Melty players, then losing to JP in UMVC3 and GG www
- Shoutouts to everyone I played in tourney and casuals, there are too many people to count. Pleasantly surprised by the level of competition compared to years before. Netplay is ass.

That being said, I've heard from many players that they intend to either drop Melty or only play casually after this tournament. This is understandable given Ecole's utter lack of support, making it basically impossible to expand the scene out in an e-sports and politically correct fashion. After seeing how far Melty has come and how much passion the scene still has for the game, I would be very sad to see people throw it all away.

Obviously, none of us individually have any way to change these circumstances handed to us. Everyone has their own lives, and if Ecole doesn't provide us with something to work with then we're probably not going to see any sort of substantial growth. Just remember that a few years ago, having over 128 in a bracket was insanity; nowadays, it's expected. When you stack Melty next to the other games left in the dust by the explosive growth the genre's experienced since SF4, we are doing very well for ourselves. The scene will only be as strong as the community makes it, and as long as outsiders can see that there's not only activity from within but upon the fringes, we can continue to bring a respectable presence to majors. It would be unrealistic to expect more than that given the lack of a real port and localization, but there's no reason to simply discard everything we've worked for up until this point.

I would like to implore everyone who reads this to keep that fact in mind so that they keep the game going in tournaments to come. If you haven't gone to a tournament and are curious what it's like -- don't be scared, come to a major. It'll be fun. If you're a veteran, try not to get too jaded about things because that is really a big turnoff for prospective players.

Thanks for reading. I might to an individualized post later on if it's not too much :effort: zzz

okay, so more notes here...

after a bit of testing, came up with some interesting tidbits to keep in mind

ries has two main variants on her corner 236a down combo:

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b (pause) (j7) j.c (pause) j.6c (land) (step) be6b 2a 236a

and

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b (j9) (j.44) j.6c (land) (step) be6b 2a 236a

the first combo requires a great deal of timing and precision, but deals 300-400 more damage than the second combo. however, the second combo is much more stable: it doesn't require any specific timing and the only requirement is to not exceed two 2a's, since pushback will be too great otherwise.

here's the caveats:

off a j.c, you need to drop a 2a or 6b, or else combo #1 becomes nigh impossible. combo #2 is still doable, but becomes much harder. dropping 6b makes both variants stable.

at most ranges/confirms, you will probably need to drop 6b for combo #1 due to pushback. however, because of j9 iabd for combo #1, you do NOT need to drop 6b for combo #2. this means combo #2 has the same functional damage as combo #1, with much more stability.

if your execution is great, then the clear choice is to always go for combo #1. otherwise for scrubs like me, combo #2 is the way to go; dropping the corner knockdown w/fries is a terrible, terrible thing to have happen.

next point - in the essentials vid, i showed the ps2 midscreen combo, which was:

2aa 5b 6c 5c 214b iad j.6c (land) be j.c dj.ac at

irysa pointed out that this was obsolete because you can replace the rejump with be6b 2a 236a for equivalent damage and superior knockdown. i agreed and annotated that in the notes somewhere.

in 1.07, the screen size is definitely smaller horizontally; carry combos that didn't go wall to wall now do. this becomes evident in ries' gameplay by the fact that there used to be a good chunk of screen space where you would do the 214a bnbs (2c 6c 214a j.c dj.ac at, or 2c 214a j.bc sdj.bc at) because you wanted the damage and the j6c combo wouldn't reach.

however, those combos are now almost wholly deprecated. iad j6c be6b 2a 236a deals the same damage as both of the 214a combos, and unless you're leaving the corner, you will almost always be at the correct screen position to use the j6c carry combo.

for the most part, you will only be using 214a combos off of random hits during pressure, or if you find yourself needing the extra 700 damage over a simple 2aa 5b 6c 5c 236a. you can even safe heat off the iad j6c combo, making 214a bnb with j6c ender deprecated as well.

i personally feel ries' gameplay specifics have changed quite a bit, between the loss of armor, increased walkspeed, and smaller screen which changes a bunch of her optimal confirms. more as i play around further.

the notes just say that there's a limit to the screen space you're allowed to do it in, which should be self evident just looking at it / practicing it yourself (unless you're referring to another segment)

the vid is by tobari, yes

i won't be there, neither will iphail. no need to record i don't think

68
i went to this

i played melty with some people in casuals and that was it

As with most Final Round tournaments, there are always special events. In conjunction with the hype video, there should be a special event with the community where skill, hype, and community are being displayed in high volume.

I have 2 events that we can look to be doing at Final Round. Only one will be chosen due to ensuring everyone's time is made enjoying the tournaments and running casuals:

1) Character matches. Put about 10-15 good players names with character variety in a hat and play a 3/5 match. Sort of the like the old GG Gamechariot character matches.

2) Red vs. White. Get all the who's who in American Melty and just have a hype ass team battle.

ALSO, I need a setup count for Larry. Post here if you are bringing a desktop, laptop, or monitor.

laptop.

Melty Blood Auditorium / Re: MBAACC SRK wiki
« on: January 20, 2012, 12:23:31 PM »
Shoving a game down people's throats is counterproductive. If SRK is open to linking to the Mizuumi wiki, this is sufficient (but I doubt this will happen due to the aforementioned traffic issue). Porting content is also unnecessary work.

srk is not going to do that as it drives traffic away.

Another associate and I figured that'd it'd be a good idea to help bolster the publicity of CC by creating a wiki for the game on SRK. We've already been approved to create a wiki (PM for information) we just need writers to help it grow. So far from past front page post the game has been received quite positively it's just attaining the knowledge and I figure a thorough wiki right on the site would be the"in your face" publicity necessary to help this game push even higher. Thoughts and ideas on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

there's already a wiki. you essentially have 2 options: copy existing work (proper crediting will be required), or spend time duplicating work that's been done
