White Len / The NEW White Len Guide. (WIP)
« on: October 01, 2007, 12:17:01 PM »
White Len's best pokes are as follows:
5B
2B

All of her other normals have no range, or no priority, leaving her at a great disadvantage, good thing she has a decent set of specials.

Her AA is either 236 B, or TK it. Also 214 A works against a lot of air moves due to it's instant startup and invincibility frames to a lot of air moves.

Now her greatest tool to escape pressure is her 214 A, and her ground dash. Her ground dash has instant invincibility frames on startup and lasts a good amount of time. Follow up on a hit with 214 A you can set up cross-up dashes. By dashing and letting the stick go to neutral you can cross up the opponent, and holding it a bit lets you stay on the side you landed. Since her dash has the "mirrors" it's really hard to block her mixups, causing her to gain the upperhand. 214 A is probably also her best bara, and maybe only useful one.

Hey day 1 mixup, that still some people can't block is charge A ice spike after a knockdown, into dp B. After they learn how to block the overhead, you can hold B down so she doesn't hit and either command throw, or get another knockdown into mixup.

Her command grab 63214 A/C has really REALLY stupid reach and can grab people even if you don't think it would reach.

She has a TON of character specific combos, that I haven't even figure out yet, but once I get down notation I'll put it up here.

Meterless Universal BnB's:
2a 2a 2c 5c jbc jbcxxthrow
(after knockdown) 236[a] 623 b (overhead) 5c jbc jbcxxthrow
2a 2c 623a 5c jbc jbcxxthrow (very VERY strict timing)

Meter Universal BnB's:
2a 2a 2c 5c (right when 2nd hit hits)xx236c 4b tk 214b
2a 2a 2c 5c (right when 2nd hit hits)xx236c 623a 5c jbc jbcxxthrow (corner only!)
2a 2a 2c 5c (right when 2nd hit hits)xx236c 2b(must hit the 2nd ball hit) 5c jcb jcbxxthrow
With these combos, you can also start is off with a 623a instead of 2a 2a 2c

Melty Blood Auditorium / My thoughts on the Melty Blood US Scene.
« on: September 30, 2007, 10:55:11 PM »
This is a very, very serious topic, as I hardly ever post anything seriously on here. If there is any stupid/useless posts made in this topic, I'll delete/issue a warning to post/poster. If you agree, don't just say "I agree" I'll just delete/warn you, give me your reason why.
---
Although my tourney experience for this game is limited to only 2 tourneys, my opinions may be limited, but I honestly think it is very, very valid.

Usually US scenes for fighting games are a lot lower in skill level then the Japanese, and only a handful of the Melty players have been playing for little over a couple of months, it still doesn't give an excuse on the "play style" factor of a lot of players. At Evo2k7, and at WT7, I noticed a very, VERY common facor. The characters and play styles.

From both these tourneys I can find a common character usage in the US.

Akiha, Satsuki, Nero, Ciel, and Nanaya.

Usually I don't have a problem with this (I play CvS2) but a lot of the combos/tactics being used are the same, boring ones I've seen for years in older match videos. In my NorCal vs SoCal commentary at WT7 I made a comment when I had the mic that "I've seen this match before, haven't I?" was actually just a joke, but since then I actually thought, "Wait, this is true!" Alot of people use the same character the same way which makes it seem boring an monotonous. Now if people whored out those characters, but had a distinct style of playing them I wouldn't be making this post. At West Toast 7, I played 3 Akihas, by the end of the tourney and a time to sit and rest and think, I know how to win against any Akiha in the US. Also watching the people play at the finals, and how they play I know how to counter alot of these common characters (Knowing does not equal executing against them, fyi).

"But it works!"
Indeed it does! Keep on using the same combos again and see how long this game will live for. Keep on using the same tactics for a certain character, the game won't be able to develop.

"Now wait Mizuki! You play CvS2!"
Indeed I do, but in CvS2 a lot of the player have their own distinct play style of the characters. Give me a video of Bas' Bison, and a video of Kindevu's Bison I most likely can differentiate between the two (I'd use Melty jp players but I'm at a loss for names atm). But give me a video of 2 US players who play the same character (In Melty), I doubt I can differentiate between them (of course, there are a few exceptions.)

"How can we take you seriously Mizuki, you fucking suck."
I just know this will come out sometime through the life of this thread. Just ask other people, ask people who have seen the game, and wait for their response, don't rush them, make them think it through. Most likely you will get a response similar to what I'm saying in this post. It is the same shit over again.

p.s. I've had not much sleep since I've come back from WT7, so forgive me if I use broken english or something in this post.

Akiha's Tea Room / Doom netplay session
« on: September 12, 2007, 05:48:05 PM »
(Cross posted on The Sacred Red Moon.)
Hi, about last month while in #SRM I was talking about Doom, and I got a few people interested. Unfortunately I kinda forgot/didn't have time to pull through. Now that most of my days is sitting online with my online college courses I have a lot of free time.

To be able to play with me and the others you will need to download the Legacy Doom client. It's a fairly easy client to get used to, uses mouse look, you can add graphical mods to it and it supports a lot of people (36 iirc)

You can go here to download the client:

http://legacy.newdoom.com/downloads.php

It does not come with the .wad files you will have to either have them, or find them yourself as it is illegal to freely distribute them (id Games still sells the game on the website, which means they still are making money off the game) Unless someone can tell me it is alright to distribute them (i.e. giving me link to site that says id Games doesn't care if I do this) I won't supply them here.

If you guys have any questions (as you guys should) I'm always on #SRM/#MBAC.

Oh yeah post here because I'll be looking back and forth, and be on the lookout for updates on this first post for sessions. =)

Oh, I forgot to add we will most likely be playing on the original doom.wad.

Okay, this thread is mainly for what instrument of gaming you should use for Melty Blood Act-Cadenza, and can also be used for other fighting games.

THE PAD

Okay, probably the least favored way of playing Melty Blood Act-Cadenza, or fighting games (Unless you play smash, but smash ain't a fighting game) Many people use this if they can't afford a stick, and or are just more comfortable using it.

THE STICK
Now this is going to be a longgggggg post, so I'll just copy-paste something I posted on SRK about this topic.

Quote
Okay, I don't have school today, and I am sick and tired of seeing these type of threads EVERY OTHER DAY!

Basically there are two "sub categories" of sticks. American and Japanese.

American parts are almost always Happ, or some knock-off brand. Happ is the shit you see in American arcades.

They're bat-top stick that is very stiff, usually have a hard spring in them. Buttons are either concave or very flat buttons that seem like you have to press down all the way to respond. I mostly see the flat buttons around.

Many people who make custom sticks like using American parts for Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Sticks you can buy with parts that are American that are worth getting are that follows:
Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Arcade stick by Nubitech (most people mod out the buttons)
MAS System sticks, people generally use these for MvC2
---

Then there are the Japanese parts. Mostly made by either Sanwa, or Seimitsu.

They are the shit you find in Japanese arcades (see the pattern?).

The stick is usually ball top (but bat tops for these stick do exist), You usually do not have to use too much force using this stick, as they are looser than Happ-type sticks. Buttons are nice and rounded, very, VERY sensitive, and you do not have to press them all the way.

Many people use these parts in custom sticks for MOST games, as they are nice and responsive.

Stock sticks that are worth getting with Japanese parts are that follows:
Hori Real Arcade Pro's (Most of these have Sanwa parts mixed with Hori stock parts)
Tekken 5 10th Anniversary Arcade Stick (US, I think these are Hori stock buttons iirc)
Capcom Fighting Jam arcade stick (I think it's an HRAP iirc)
---

Q: How do I know which one I would like?
A: Easy, Do you like the feel of parts in your local arcade? (if your in North America), if they're too stiff for you, you might like Sanwa/Seimitsu.

Q: How about if I like American stick, but Japanese buttons (or vice-versa)
A: You'd have to go to custom-stick land for that, I do not know of ANY stock sticks that do this (correct me if I'm wrong). Byrdo, and many custom stick makers here on SRK can probally make one for you, but Byrdo is more of a store where he makes it, then you can buy it, I don't know if he still makes requests.

Q: I bought a stock stick from the store, can I swap out parts for same country parts (Bought HRAP, want Sanwa parts)
A: Yes, you might have to do a little modding, there are FAQ's littered all over the place in this forum. Look.

Q: I bought a Tekken 5 stick, and I want to modd it with Happ parts, is that possible?
A: Honestly, I don't know. I've never met/seen anyone who wanted to do this. I think it's possible, you just have to gut everything out and mod it to hell and back.
*edit!*
You can! Poon and markR has done this before.
Basically it's alot of work, but if you put effort in and you like happ you should be satisfied.
---

Sticks you WANT to avoid:
Pelican, Mad Catz, any crappy American 3rd party maker shit.
XArcade, I heard that it lags like on every converter known to man, and it just sucks period.
Asian bootleg arcade sticks. Seriously. There are TONS of Hori bootlegs out there, they're mostly crap iirc, but I guess you can use it for a nice sturdy case.

If there are anyone else who wants to add anything constructive, be my guest. Oh and any mod, can you please sticky this?

Now I'd also like to add this:
Will you be playing it on other consoles? Am I spending alot of time playing it on PS2?

The answer is this.

CONVERTER

Pick up a Pelican PS2->PS3 or a Radioshack converter, they work wonders!

Also XBox360 and PS3 sticks are plug + play (If you've updated your system) for MBAC and there is NO input lag! Isn't that wonderful?

and last but not least is...

THE KEYBOARD

All I have to say is
KEYBOARD CRUSHER DESU-KA?

Anyways pretty fun over all, secks, sexy girls, and buying shit was too good.

I bought these two things, and cell phone thingies that make my phone now heavier than my phone itself.

And I started talking to this maid, but I found out that she had a boyfriend later on in the day...

Oh well, maybe next year?

p.s. Tons of #channers there. Too good during the skits. SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

and the announcer dude was hella funny, "How many girls out there like Sailor Moon?" *girls scream and raise hands* "Well you know what that anime is about, that girls can't do anything until the guys comes and saves them." and "You can't say "Yaoi" without "owie."

p.p.s. I still don't know that much anime...

Oh I also got 20 game winstreak at CvS2

Akiha's Tea Room / How did you choose your INTARWEB NAMEZ?
« on: April 30, 2007, 03:24:42 PM »
This should be a cool little thread, since we have like this little community, and I'm bored OUT OF MY FUCKING MINDDDDDDD

Anyways, only CvS2 old SRK'ers know me by my old j1nl0ng, it was just a variation with my chinese name, I dropped it when my Chinese part of the family like totally disowned me.

Mizuki was just a name I always liked, yeah it's generally a girl's japanese name, but I don't give a fuck really, it's a cool name (btw I am part japanese too so I'm no weaboo =P, I'm also irish and scottish, hella dope.)

Okay, I'm going to a local anime con in a month, and I was allowed to have a slot for presentation. Since I'll be bored eventually there, I wanted to do a presentation on Melty Blood, even though it's probally the WORST crowd to promote this game to make it bigger, but who knows, maybe we'll pick up a good player or two.

I need help on what everyone remembers from the original Melty Blood, and Re-ACT, like the system, and gameplay.

Info I do remember:
Melty Blood:

Stamina Bar, B or C grabs. Super bar that gradually grew, and built on attack

MBRA:

Blood Heat system, B or C grabs

MBAC:
BC grab button
