Well, not so much taking over, but... If there is a genuine issue with Vista in my MBCaster build, I will look into a fix. I don't like leaving large bugs lying around just because no one could be bothered to tell me or, for that matter, help diagnose the issue. ("It doesn't work" is what I get 90% of the time, even when I press for more details, and that's about as unhelpful as it comes.)

Im starting to see a LOT of repeats.
Is it true that these are the only good fighting games?

As there is no reference to Samurai Shodown V Special anywhere in this thread, which is very good and well-balanced, this is obviously false.

I mainly play that and IaMP these days.

The [VISTA] segment is a legacy part of Tropsy's build that was never used for anything anyway. It is used in th075Caster, but MBAC's Caster has no use for it, so I got rid of it.

To my knowledge there are no problems with it in Vista(Could anyone here vouch for this please?), so I suspect it might be something else on your system causing problems. Like I know that certain anti-cheating software gets in the way of it working. Some more information regarding what your system is doing at the time would probably help.

Minimum failing examples are everybody's friend!

Hamachi should always be considered a last resort, for a variety of reasons including lag, connectivity, and the aforementioned user limit problem that people continuously bitch about.  Protip: IRC HAS NO USER LIMIT. WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE NOT USING IT?!?

Hamachi is not a matchmaking service. It is a VPN service. There is a difference.

NetPlay Community / Re: What ports does Mauve's MBCaster Use??
« on: February 02, 2008, 02:29:28 AM »
..yeah, if you spent about three seconds looking at config_caster.ini, you'd see that it's 7500. It's also UDP.

Technically, there is another one, though. The port testing feature uses 7501, which is why you can't set that port. You also cannot configure your local port to be higher than 10000. None of this matters for general usage, though. (Newer stock Caster has this fixed but I didn't port the changes over because, well, who cares?)

MBCaster adds additional input lag on top of the inputed delay. Current reason is unknown. Workaround: Account for this when inputting input delay before the start of a game for optimal performance. Fixed by updating to the latest version.
This was not actually fixed, I just determined that it was a non-issue created by frame skipping. There is no added input delay, and never has been, but it will skip frames (and not tell you) if your delay is slightly low.

As I've just been reminded, here's another one for the pile, since it's related.

How can I tell if I am able to host games?

Caster has a feature to test this under 'test myPort.' Simply select that and point it at the relay's IP, and it will test to see if you are capable of hosting a game or not. If it says "OK", hosting should work fine for you and you do not need to use the relay to play.

Some addendums.

9. I'm getting Command Version Error, what does this mean?

One of you is using the wrong Caster. Relay functionality supports IaMP, SWR, and Melty Blood.
This should not ever happen through the relay, because it only connects users of identical version values to each other. If you are doing standby through a normal Caster client, this can happen, however.

11. How do I spec a relay game?

Once you connect, Caster will print out the IP and port you connected to. Copy and paste this to others who want to spec.
Not all routers support this, so YMMV. Some routers also get weird and suddenly let people connect to port 7500 regardless of the ports used here.

Though I do sometimes use the relay to play instantly with a random person if he's waiting in the relay.
The relay is not a matchmaking service, do not use it as one. It is meant for users who cannot host, nothing more.

Seriously? That's pretty messed up. Like, along the lines of, "Your system is directly getting in the way of Caster working."

I haven't a clue what's doing that but if it bombs THAT early then the debugging hooks it uses didn't properly take hold and/or messed up the program, which should not be possible if you are running MBAC v1.03A. Therefore something is interfering with it. What it might be, I really don't know, and I can't think of anything at the moment to more directly track it down.

Desyncs are the only real issue left, IMO.

And don't look at me, I'm not implementing this, though I can't see it being too difficult to do, just requiring an extensive manipMenu overhaul and some flags to indicate what mode it's in.

I was hoping for something more along the lines of OS information.

Anyhow, try this build. It's no different from my other builds except that it has extra debugging information printed out. If you can tell me where it hangs/explodes, that would be a big help.

Don't have the foggiest idea what might be causing it then. As long as MBAC is not running at the time, it is patched up to 1.03a, and there is nothing running in the background that could prevent Caster from doing its magic (gameguard-type things or overzealous system protection software), it should be working fine. MBAC itself shooting up to 90% CPU usage is also baffling, since that shouldn't be able to happen in most of the loops.

Some system information would be helpful in resolving this here.

Sounds highly likely that you have not properly patched MBAC to 1.03A. MBCaster doesn't do any tests about the current version of the game... Though it should.

You can find my MBCaster here.

The main important ones, though:
  • Fixed the macro desyncs.
  • Fixed spectating timing/playback speed.
  • Fixed keyboard dinging after startup.
  • Permanently unlocked Neko Arc Chaos.
  • Automatic delay calculations more accurate.
  • Automatic replay saving / renaming added.
  • POV hats supported correctly.
  • Hostname resolution on all menu items. (So you can standby to mizuumi.net instead of having to remember the IP, and use dyndns addresses.)
  • Session statistics and logs.
  • Random character selection should be less broken.
  • Default window size can be set.

I'm pretty much done with it short of finding some way to do something about the remaining desyncs though, and that's a low priority item for me at the moment.

You guys can do whatever you want with it as far as I am concerned.
