That's why.
In all honesty, I'm not seeing the reason for all the hate for this one. Mechanics-wise, it isn't
amazing, but feels like it takes at least a bit more thought than most other tactical RPGs I've played, which isn't a bad thing. Not unbelievably complex (though I'd probably like that), but it doesn't take the FF-approach of "just hit everything as hard as you can", either. It hasn't gotten there yet, anyway. The system doesn't seem extraordinarily clunky, and the item creation system isn't terrible (yet?). I'm liking the story, characters, etc.; but that's to be expected.
Evo probably won't happen; a few weeks back I saw they sold out of spectator tickets, and paying $70+expenses is not terribly appealing when the cash could be put toward more useful things, like another PS2 or a new TV so I don't have to break my eyes trying to read PS3 game text on a CRT.
