East Coast Canada//Main Base: Ontario
« on: January 05, 2012, 01:52:47 PM »
Greetings! This is the East Coast Canada thread, anyone is welcome here!

I noticed that the East Coast Canada threads have been dead, so I figured I'd make one for East Coast Canada. I'll be listing all the players of East Coast Canada in here. Please leave your name, location, and main/sub.

Shout outs to the Arizona thread because I'm referencing from their thread on how to create this thread, lol.

Players//Location & Characters:
Player: SayuriMatsuri//Ontario//Brampton Main: F-Maids Sub:  :mystery:
Player: NTR//Ontario//Markham Main: C-Ciel
Player: Sashi//Ontario//Toronto Main: C-Sacchin Sub: F-Ryougi
Player: worldjem//Ontario//Toronto Main: C-Ryougi

Right now I'm currently thinking weekends would be good for netplay sessions. Although with everyone in this thread, we can share contact info and play whenever or even create a chat room to play at whatever times. I think a chat room for East Coast Canada would be a good idea, as long as people come on it of course.

Hey NTR, thanks for being the first poster in the thread. I'm gonna try to see what times everyone can play when we get more people.

As for players around the York region/GTA, I know most of Ontario's Melty crew is in Waterloo, but I know of a few GTA players. I'll see if I can get in touch with them and point them your way. Hopefully this thread does the job enough though, lol.

Nice to see another Melty player from Ontario. I'm gonna try to find more people, but it would be a great help if you guys also told your friends about this thread.

Please and thanks in advance.

We have ~7 players in Waterloo, two of whom are pretty good.  If people from Toronto and elsewhere want to come up on a weekend (like we used to do for AH3), feel free to do so:  we have a huge space to play in now. :)

Hey Bill, thanks for posting on this thread. It's great to know we have a sizable base of players for Melty Blood in Ontario. Hope to come down sometime myself whenever I get a job.

Ontario here.
Nearest fightan gaem scene is down at Lovegety Station here but I don't think they have Current Code there let alone a melty scene.

iirc there was an act cadenza cab at lovegety, but it was removed last year. Don't really know if there was a pre-existing melty community around here though...

Representing Waterloo here.

So I do still have my Current Code board, if only someone could convince the Lovegety owner put it in.
We've barely used it much here, and I don't want to let it go to waste.
I'm even willing to do a trial period to gauge interest. Someone just needs to talk to him.

I could pass word to some Dustloop people and see what they could do.
Btw, are you gonna charge for the board or give it for free?

Well it cost me 3k+ so I'd like to recoup some amount. But I'm not gonna ask for the original price.

Montreal Air Dashers (MAD) Tournament
April 14th (Saturday)
18+ only
No SF4; no UMvC3; no MK9
Main game is BBCSEX; other games have side tournies, including MBAACC
LK and Stickbug are among the Americans who are planning to be there

This will be the closest (semi-)major tournament to us (Waterloo or Toronto) this year.  I 100% want to go to this.

I never played MB until recently. I didn't play when it was at lovegety because I was too intimidated by the competition, and was generally a worse player back then, so I probably would have just fumbled around not knowing what I was doing while getting beat.

I'm so glad I was able to get some lab time with this game because it's so fun.

A Tournament?

This Saturday (March 10th) we're going to run a free-entry, multi-character tournament in Waterloo.  The address is MadScientist's and my apartment near the university -- PM us for address and cell #s (MadScientist might be a little quicker to respond so PM him first ;)).

We'll be open for casuals starting at noon on Saturday, and we'll aim to start the tournament (i.e. end registration) at 2:00 pm.  We'll try to finish the tournament by "dinnertime".

Since it's an apartment, we'll have to keep the noise down past 11 pm, so let's say the event officially ends at that time.  If there's only a handful of people left, we can generally keep playing (quietly) until 1 am or later.

What's The Venue Like?

Our "venue" has:
- 2 setups for the MBAACC tournament and casuals before/after (1 of these will be a stream setup)
- 2 PS2/PS3 setups for casuals in whatever fighting games people want to play (probably BBCSE and GGAC, maybe some AH3 or 3s).
- A 3rd MBAACC laptop setup might be useful, especially if there's a lot of interest in MBAACC casuals and less interest in other game casuals.
- Extra chairs or stools would also be useful.  At the moment we have 3 chairs, 3 stools, 2 office chairs, and a couch.

What Is This Multi-Character Thing?

We'll aim to have a 24- to 32-man tournament with 4 small pools (format to be determined: double elim, round-robin, or swiss-style).  These will seed into an 8-man bracket, with 4 players in winners and 4 players in losers.

To achieve this # of entrants, assuming we get 16 or fewer actual players, each player will enter 2 (or more) times and will be placed in separate pools -- if you meet yourself in the top-8 bracket, you choose which of your entrants wins the "match".  Better players will be coerced into choosing different characters, allowing us to play different matchups and generally have more fun, but anyone has the choice of entering with 2 of the same character, or 2 different ones.  Character selection is locked, but moon selection is not.

When you enter, you can choose a nickname for each character/entrant, plus a unique "sponsor tag" so we know who they belong to.  For example:

Player: Bill307
Tag: BL
Entrants:
- BL DJHalfnhalf (WLen)
- BL LordPantene (VAkiha)
- BL Gnrcsprhr (Nero)

Or you can just name them by whichever character they're using -- if you don't give me nicknames then I'll default to this. :P

If you're interested in coming, post here and/or on the UWGamers forum!

2v2 Multichar Team Tournament - Saturday March 24

At MadScientist and Bill307's apartment in Waterloo.  Casuals start at 11 am; tournament sign-ups end at 2 pm.

We're running another multi-character tournament this Saturday, but this time it'll be 2v2 teams.  Your
team can enter multiple times with the same or different characters (note: character-lock).

Example team: Lan + Bill

Team Siege Mode: Aoko + WLen
Team Psi Storm: Ciel + WLen
Team Dark Swarm: Kohaku + Nero
Team FireGirlHeroes: Akiha + SAkiha

Tourney format is double elim, waseda-style, single match, i.e.:
A1 vs B1
A2 vs B2
tie-break: winner-1 vs winner-2

Winners, losers, and grand finals will be a best of 3 waseda-style sets.

2v2 Multichar Team Tournament - Saturday March 24
snipped stuff

I have nothing better to do this weekend unless I get a surprise assignment or job training, so I'll use my $20 to come down and play if I can.

Anyone up to team?

Player: Raynex//Ontario//Toronto Main: H-VSion

There is currently a small group of about 4-5 players that gather @ A and C World on Mondays (it's a niche fighter night which includes BB, SCV, AH3, KOFXIII, GundamvGundam, etc) and I'm trying to get more people interested. There are more than 10 in Toronto area that have experience in Act Cadenza and are actually GOOD, but they don't play much anymore. I'm trying to change that!

But yeah, nice to meet you guys..hope we can get games in soon.

Bill, what's the link to that forum you were talking about?

Organizing another bi-weekly MBAACC tourney, this time with Skullgirls (and, MadScientist willing, an overdue AH3 runback).

We'll be hosting this Saturday (the 21st) at our apartment.  Casuals will start at noon.  MBAACC will run from 2:00 to 6:00 and will be a free-entry multi-character tournament.  Skullgirls will run from 7:30 to 9:30 and will be a normal free-entry tourney.

PM me for address and contact info.
