@Numa - ha, I'm sure you'll have the chance to take money from me later.

On that topic, are people going to show up this Friday? The HD on my PS2 is dead, so no practice for me...

Found this and couldn't think of a sensible way to post this in the general forums, so here:

@hdphnz : Haha, wut?

BTW, looks like I'll be there on Friday night, again.

Hey Id, if you're reading this, how hard would it be to get some streaming set up? Is there anything I could contribute to make it more likely?

Is anyone in the community at large interested in watching any of these matches? We don't totally suck, after all. Some of these matches are getting pretty good, I think...

... or are Numa and I the only ones watching this thread?

Serious post (you can tell because I'm capitalizing properly):

I think we need to bury the West Toast name and move forward with a new tournament series for CC to take off. There's too much legacy associated with WT and the current SoCal scene doesn't do the name justice.

With regards to scene: Ever since CC came out at FFA, I've been going almost every Friday night just to play the game (and to avoid Friday traffic). I have been fortunate that some AI heads are as crazy as I am, so there is always people to play.  Occasionally, there are others who join the fray too.  Last friday, there happened to be about 4 additional players in a day that there happened to be a 3S tournie.  (where it is a coincidence or not is beyond me)

I know I'll probably continue coming down Friday nights indefinitely.  I'd be interested in recording matches for those Fridays.  Hell, I'd like to do it myself... but I don't have any equipment (or the know how...).  Maybe when recording devices are anchored down... Friday tournies? maybe?

What do you guys think?

An arcade-only scene for an anime game is too difficult to sustain in today's age. We already know where the future of Melty lies. I think a media blitz would definitely help, but accessibility remains the same issue it's been all these years.

@Numa - Yeah, I'm looking forward to Friday as well... not because I've learned anything this week, just because it's been a hell of a week...  But, I think this week we should try to seriously brainstorm ways of recording the matches without needing any special permission. In unfortunately lack any kind of decent camera...

@NETPLAY - While I agree that the scene would be larger and more active if we weren't reliant on the arcade for meeting people, I don't really see how this relates to West Toast.  There's certainly going to be netplay of some sort, and online tournaments in the future, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't also keep the arcade torch burning. There has been a consistent demonstrated interest in Melty this whole time by people at the arcade (new players every night, outside of even the regulars). If they actually recognize the name (or Brand, or whatever) of West Toast, then it's good for the scene as a whole (as it reinforces the notion that a scene even exists)... so what exactly is the problem?

That would be me and my friends.  We just happen to plan our trip to FFA on the day of casuals, we knew nothing of casuals whatsoever on Friday nights.  I was going to use the time to relearn the game, since I haven't even touched it for about 5+months and I'm new to CC.  Regardless it was great playing against new people and not the usual 7 people I play AA with.

I would be going to FFA often for casuals but having no car really sucks, and it's a 1+hr trip.  We should be going again sometime this month...so expect to see us again.

@NETPLAY & @Sharkchowder:
For the recent West Toast, the name alone brought Arizona to FFA (least I'd like to believe).  That is warrant enough to keep the name as is, IMO.   I do agree though that the name West Toast alone is something to live up to.  All it needs is someone who is willing to go all out.  As for myself, I'm content on supporting the game as of current by playing it in one of the very few arcades that have CC in the US.

On another note, Doesn't West Toast host multiple games, not just MB?  I remember when I first came in at WT4 at Interface, MBAC PS2 was the only game I saw with a tournie behind it. Then when it moved to FFA at the later dates, GG was added to the mix of WT's.  The recent WT had MBAACC, AH3, GG, BB, and MVC3.  My theory is that West Toast started with just MBAC but then later, several other "Airdasher" games were added to support other player interest.

So it was a coincidence after all... Sweet. ;D Well if ya do happen to come down, post here.  It helps with the planning ahead.
Also, might as well post here and say hi. http://www.meltybread.com/forums/akiha%27s-tea-room/introductory-thread-%28take-off-your-shoes-please%29/1475/
Hope to play more games with ya in the future.

Edit: I'm going to FFA friday night again.  :toot:

I'm the driver, and also the Tohno Shiki player that was there.  Most notably the group of people bringing all the hype to that bubble bobble machine.  I believe whoever was there kept hearing a white guy call me the "Cheaty Asian".  I plan on showing up with Neo and possibly others about every 4th friday from last week's.  If I get this job, I'll show up more often. Hope to learn how to play on a stick and adapt to the changes soon.

Might be a little late tonight, but I'll be there. (Hopefully in time for Sushi)

@This & NeoZero - Awesome! Numa and I and at least a couple of others are usually there every Friday - I'll usually post here if I'm not going to be able to make it.

BTW, where are you guys commuting in from? An hour seems like a pretty big trek - mine is like a half hour... if there's a way to set up carpools, I'll do what I can to help - I'm in Culver City.

@Shark:  We both come from the Orange County area.  I live in Yorba Linda and This lives in ??? (I don't wanna post any personal information on his behave).  By the looks of it Culver City seems like it's out of the way for us, just looked it up right now.  I'm not the driver but I'm sure if your along the way,or anybody else, This wouldn't mind picking up an extra person or two, given that we have extra room in the car.

Edit:  Next time expect to see actual combos from my C-W.Len and not just pokes, lol.

I live in Brea, its along the 57 and real close to the 60.  My car...real tiny.  I can fit 3 passengers if the 2 in the back can deal with the very small space they will have.  I'll go out more often if people can pitch in for gas, otherwise it'll be once every 4 weeks unless I get that job.

For those too lazy to read that pic above,
BB-GG-AH3 and MB tournie on Sunday, September 18.

I wonder who's interested.

@Numa - I'm definitely interested... I'm not sure if I'll actually be free, though. I think there's a decent chance, but some projects are ramping up.

@Others in carpool - Yeah, man, we're pretty scattered. I wouldn't ask anyone to go out of the way to pick me up - I'm usually good for transportation. I was mostly wondering if there was anyone I could help out, but it doesn't really seem like it. Oh well...  That means we need to make sure that the regulars actually show up on those days when the other guys arrive - so please post here if you anticipate coming in! :)
