MTP is gonna be moving to San Francisco in a few months. There are some players that meet at Diablo Valley College on weekdays in the student union rec room.

*bump*

we've been doing sessions on friday afternoons (everyone usually heads over there around 3pm) in the basement cafeteria of the Cesar Chavez building in San Francisco State University.

offline games are top tier~ you bay area MB'ers should come over to get some games in with us  ;D

how to get there (http://sfsustudentcenter.com/quicklinks/directions.php)
SFSU on google maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=san+francisco+state+university&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=54.357317,74.882813&ie=UTF8&ll=37.726194,-122.477131&spn=0.013408,0.018282&z=15&iwloc=B)

Fake pretty much said all that needed to be said. As a side note that session last night seemed to go pretty well, if you guys wanna make it a weekly thing to go Tuesdays as well let me know.

ANY STATE PLAYERS THAT SAW US PLAYING AND ARE INTERESTED IN LEARNING OR PLAYING THE GAME WITH US JUST SEND ME A PM OR GET AT ME ON IRC, I'LL HELP YOU GET STARTED.

I just may be able to show up, if I get back from my cousin's graduation in time. I haven't played in two weeks. I have been taking a BAH-RAKE.

yeah were doing one this friday

i figured out a way to get multiple sticks/pads to work without having to restart MB (provided that the laptop has enough usb ports), so you can use your $10 pad and i can use my gimmick bat-top, lol

how close is this place to bart?
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Shizuka June 05, 2008, 02:02:43 PM
the nearest bart station is balboa, you can grab a muni line from there and it takes you right to state, 15 mins from bart maybe. Also i think theres transport that goes from bart straight to state, jeff knows more about that.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: JeffM June 05, 2008, 02:27:29 PM
actually the closest bart station is the Daly City bart station. from there you can either take the 28 muni line (3~5 minute ride), or you can take the free SFSU shuttle bus~ but i'm not sure if they're doing runs this time around because summer school hasn't started yet i think.

hmm i dont suggest using the parking lot, i've only used when i go to my mom's to borrow her car since she's got her employee pass.

they have "forever" parking on 19th avenue (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=37.722511,-122.475049&daddr=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=17&sll=37.722961,-122.473397&sspn=0.00415,0.006158&ie=UTF8&ll=37.722392,-122.47447&spn=0.00415,0.006158&z=17) - the side across the street from SFSU. you should be able to find a spot easily; i don't think classes have started yet. if not there's also tons of "forever" parking spots on junipero serra (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=16583253468519070161,37.722510,-122.475024%3B4874847762846381422,37.722596,-122.472334&saddr=Junipero+Serra+Blvd+%4037.722596,+-122.472334&daddr=&mra=mr&sll=37.722392,-122.47447&sspn=0.00415,0.006158&ie=UTF8&ll=37.722766,-122.473762&spn=0.00415,0.006158&z=17), 3 short blocks away from the campus.

i like to live life on the edge, so i park here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=15776026105998160966,37.718666,-122.478268&saddr=37.718658,-122.478075&daddr=&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=17&sll=37.719193,-122.4783&sspn=0.00415,0.006158&ie=UTF8&ll=37.719354,-122.478182&spn=0.00415,0.006158&z=17) in the park merced apartments area; street parking is 2 hours on serrano drive and juan bautista circle. and if you cross your fingers hard enough the meter dudes wont check before 6pm.

Just throwing this out there:

If the free shuttle (http://www.sfsu.edu/~parking/text/shuttle.html) from Daly City BART isn't in service right now (I think it is still in service), you can also go to Colma BART and take the Samtrans 122 (http://samtrans.com/pdf/Schedules/Route_122_08-19-07.pdf) bus towards Stonestown and get off by the campus or at Stonestown, which is a stone's throw away from SFSU.

Breaking news!

Apparently, they changed the times for when the student center is open for the summer session.

STUDENT CENTER

SUMMER HOURS
Begin: Tuesday, May 27
End: Monday, August 25

Monday - Thursday
7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Friday
7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Saturday - Sunday
Closed

Since we usually meet at around 3, I suggest that, from now on, we either show up earlier and/or have a regular place we can go to (i.e. Eggettes) when it closes.

Nandeyanen and I were talking about using CCSF for regular sessioning in the event that SFSU becomes too inconvenient, but I don't know what the hours are.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Shizuka June 06, 2008, 02:02:05 AM
Might be a possibility (especially because a bunch of us are taking class there over summer) I'm not sure what the hours are, but a lot of non-classroom buildings close fairly early (5ish) and I couldn't find the hours for the student union anywhere (yay government websites) thus, its just a wait and see sort of dealie.

yeah, we've been leaving at the 6pm closing time for the past 3 sessions now i think... and i've heard that janitor lady bitching about us in spanish twice already, for being there when they're cleaning up (mostly because we scatter the chairs around and move the tables, but since we've been putting the tables and chairs back i don't think were really doing anything bad).

I'm not sure if we can keep going to eggettes to play, so far weve only brought 4 people, but to much more would probably be pushing our luck

as for the eggettes thing as long as we have about seven or less it should be fine. of course every single one of us should be giving them business and buying drinks since we'd be loitering if we werent.

i might stop by the student union center at noon today and ask for their hours.

speaking of places to play... i used to study over the weekends at borders in stonestown~ i think i've met the prettiest girls in that cafe inside; and since there's not a lot of people going to class over the summer the place might not be as crowded. anyways i really just wanted to say that borders chicks are top tier

i think SFSU is still the best place to go until we figure out how long the ccsf student union is open.. like tenkai said we can come earlier, i don't mind that at all
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.

Yea, I think we should state at state for the time being (everyone knows how to get there etc.), I don't mind starting earlier either. Let us know what the hours are for the student union when you find out. Also, we can't fit 8 people in your car jeff :( and yes, borders chicks are top tier.

ionno about shmups, but there's always people playing cvs2, some 3rd strike, and a little mvc2; a couple of the newer players play on the crappy MB cabinet (even though they probably see our session). if you're into pool there's always folks on the pool tables in the smaller room.

CCSF = instant win; if you came tired and dont feel like playing you can sleep in the couch if you wanted to.

their friday schedule is a shame :( pushing the weekly sessions back to thursday won't be a bad idea. im free monday, thursday and every other friday afternoons.

are we doing a session tomorrow? we need to play dungeons and dragons, this is srs business

You guys play Shadow over Mystara? Damn we should get some GGPO going on that shit.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.

So, Buzzsaw's place is a no-go. We'll be sessioning at CCSF then. What times are good for you guys? Also, I still need directions... Can I get there pretty easily using public transportation?
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Shizuka June 18, 2008, 07:28:24 PM
Well, I'll be there just hanging out after class I guess, Its extremely easy to get to. Take bart to balboa station. Then you just walk a few blocks up the street to get to it.

http://www.ccsf.edu/Campuses/  Click the ocean campus, and then Student union, and it will show you what the building looks like.

Just heard about it, I'll try to make it out there if there's going to be a good turnout rate.

Pad is too top tier; I don't think I can handle it.

: Alt June 20, 2008, 07:53:09 PM
Saturday, June 28 I'll be having a GG/MB/misc gathering at my house in Redwood City. 11AM to midnight. I'll make sure there's at least 1 big screen and 1 small screen for both MB and GG. Other TVs/comps can be whatever. If you need my address and/or directions PM me. Bring PS2s and laptops and small TVs. I gave away all but one of my working PS2s and I'll probably only have 1 free comp that can reliably run Melty. Please send me a PM or IM or respond to this post if you plan on coming so I have some idea of how many people to expect.

jk~ i'm either going to vacaville on thursday or friday for them sales, but i'll do my best to keep friday open for session. i think sfsu will be closed that day, so were gonna have to find a new venue (or just play at eggettes, this shouldnt be a big problem)

Oh, by the way Nandeyanen, do you know/want to learn how to play Mahjong? And let me know if you're going to be bringing your laptop to the session. It doesn't look like our turnout will be that big, so one setup should be fine. If you don't want to bring yours, I should be able to bring mine.

I was requested to create a list of yaku (possible hands in Japanese Mahjong) recently and so here it is:

Aside from yakumans and not-so-popularly-respected yaku, it lists them all. I'll make another page for yakumans later. Enjoy.

If you use the printer friendly version and kill the margins, it comes out to 5 pages on paper~

hey mir, here's a link to 511's trip planner~ this thing is awesome
http://tripplanner.transit.511.org/mtc/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en&itdLPxx_homepage=secondStep

since summer school is over, the free shuttle bus might not be available until fall semester starts again. alternatively, you can take the 28 muni bus line ($1.50) to get to SF state

friday at 2PM. which bart station is closest to your place? you want to get off the daly city bart station and take the 28 muni bus line.

http://tripplanner.transit.511.org/mtc/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en&itdLPxx_homepage=secondStep

i highly suggest using this page to plan your trip. it covers pretty much all bus and train lines- they even tell you exactly which bart train to take, what time it arrives, how long it takes, etc etc.

for you ccsf students~ do you guys have breaktime in between classes? i have one on wednesdays, from 11AM-1PM. if anyone is interested to play, i wouldnt mind bringing my laptop for some sessions. im also free after 4PM (maybe earlier, it's a science lab class) that day, so a late afternoon session might work out too. i also might have a short break in the morning on tuesdays and thursdays, but im still trying to fill in one more class around that time, so im not sure if im going to have time or not.

anyway, there's always saturdays, and i wouldn't mind doing occasional trips to sjsu (if they do saturdays) for their sessions

I could bring my T5 hori, though IDK if anyone wants to play it on since a few of the buttons are starting to be a bit unresponsive. That and hopefully your converters don't make this thing lag, because I'm sure it does on mine (pre-2003 radioshack psx/ps2-pc adapter).

As far as I know, most, if not all, of the NorCal MB scene (i.e. San Jose) have stuff to do on Saturday, so they won't be making it. However, I don't know the situation with the Guilty Gear players, but from what I gather by reading on Dustloop, the turnout with those guys won't be very high either.

I was planning on going if it looked like it would have a decent turnout, but now I'm kinda on the fence, leaning towards not going.

There's spectators but that's limited too. Basically I'm in, but can't play unless someone doesn't show up. And there's probably a bunch of people ahead of me on the list for that. I'm probably not going to go to it.

Sure on Saturday.

I'm good this Saturday too. SFSU and then maybe ST/GG after?

It just occurred to me that my friend's birthday is this Saturday, so I won't be able to make it to this week's session. But if there's a session next Saturday, I should be able to make that one.

yay, saturday it is~ ill be showing up during the noon hour. i missed offliine melty

And btw Jeff, can I borrow a stick? >_<
i don't mind lending you the lunchbox, after i find some way to make it so that the seimitsu shaft doesn't hit the metal cover of the stick without resorting to using washers... i'll try to do some dremel work and get that resolved by saturday- no promises though, kinda busy this time around. if i don't get it ready by saturday it'll be ready next week for sure.

Sounds good to me :)
hey are you still using that ps2 to usb adapter? i kinda need it back

We won't be having GGAC at SFSU (unless someone brings a TV), but what sometimes happens is I host GGAC in my smallass apartment afterwards. Depending on the turnout, you may be able to come for GG, but I really can't promise anything. I usually only let about 4 people other than myself in my home for GG because we only have one setup (the others might also play MB or ST on a laptop), as well as space issues.

You're more than welcome to bring people for MB, though.  :psyduck:

As for where we meet, we meet in the arcade at the bottom floor of the Cesar Chavez Student Center. I'll try to be there between 1-2, and I'll have a laptop set up.

@JeffM thanks for the video of that.... it looks like more fun than Tekken 6.
@Light Wow that was really funny, and at the same disgustingly condescending, I like how they subtitled all of his lines in obnoxiously large hiragana and katakana.

Its awesome, I could have played it a long time ago (they released the first two routes separately) but I wanted to go through the entire thing without interruption. I am about half way through the Fate route, and cannot wait to finish it because Shirou is so fucking annoying in that one. Seriously he is the worst Type-Moon character ever (although I've heard he gets better in UBW and HF). R. Shiki and T. Shiki are so much better as main characters. Anyways, I had my PS3 shipped up here so we can play that this session, the fighting games I have for it are: BF, SCIV, T5.

I want in on some Tenka.   I own it, but I haven't played much.  I have, however, played a little of every SS.  Definitely plenty of Zero when it was new in arcades.

I play Ten Nako. :3
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Sarsapari November 19, 2008, 06:05:32 PM
David how am I not surprised you play this game? ;D

I play Ten Maid (kind of a waste, I feel like I should play her on Ken), and pretend I can play Ken Andrew.

Nako doesn't feel that good in this game, how is she supposed to be used anyways?
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Tsubasa☆ November 19, 2008, 07:00:45 PM
Lots of Mamahaha grab mixup.  You're hanging onto her on and off for, like, half the match.  I think I should really play her in Rei or Ken, but I like dial-a-combo.  And for the record, she isn't good in this game. XD;

I play some Ten Kazuki too.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Sarsapari November 19, 2008, 07:39:49 PM
Ten Kazuki is a monster! Dial a combo into command grab is too strong - that thing does as much as his super with level 3 charge(half life off of a jump in)! Especially considering how his AB comes out faster than his standing a and has more range than his far C; it's kind of ridiculous how much stuff you can punish.

We should definitely play some time, I'm still trying to learn an effective way to mix up with maid outside of just baiting for anti air and ticking with her super long grab range.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Light November 20, 2008, 12:47:47 PM
Well, IIRC, Iroha is top tier. Beats me why. One thing I like about her is how more combo friendly she is.

I like spamming Nicotine's special that reverses your controls.

If you're showing up this saturday, I'll definitely go.

Well, IIRC, Iroha is top tier. Beats me why. One thing I like about her is how more combo friendly she is.

I like spamming Nicotine's special that reverses your controls.

Some stuff I noticed that she had that seemed a little too good.  Although guardcrush.net no longer exists, and I have no real way to verify these statements without learning spanish; I might be the guy who's getting dangerously close to theory fighter, and post deletion is imminent.

- backdash fireball negates most of the recovery penalty on fireballs, seems like she's only character where it works like that - every other character has some kind of recovery from aerial specials.
- only character able to double jump anywhere on the screen (bait anti airs, 4 way mixup with her 2 primary jump ins, list goes on)
- jk tends to beat other aerials out a little too much, and jK cancelled qcb+c is amazing anti air with great damage.
- her throw range is as far as her close b
- is able to deal as much damage with close b/cr k+qcb c as her ken AABBCCC dial a combo, although this one might not be that good.
- lastly HOLY SHIT OPTION SELECT SUPER.  b+k moves her a third of the way across the screen, and when done meaty enough gives advantage on block, it is also special/super KARA CANCELLABLE from the 1st frame till the last active frame.  Her super is a command grab that has about as much range as her normal throw.  On wakeup, if they jump then they eat b+k xx qcb+b, if they block then they eat a kara cancelled super (raging demon lol) or block a meaty b+k.

the only bad thing I really noticed about her is that the range on all her good pokes outside of cr+k are pretty terrible, but then again it's Iroha and you should just be doing backdash fireball during a neutral situation anyways.

All right guys. Let's get a show of hands for Saturday. Oscar said he doesn't feel like hosting at his dorm this week, so if we don't have too many people, I might open up my apartment for some GG/random laptop shenanigans afterwards.

edit: Oh yeah, the aftersession would probably require someone to drive.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Light November 20, 2008, 08:35:19 PM
Wow that post was pretty detailed. Heh, you might know more then what was on guardcrush.

I don't remember how detailed the discussion on Iroha was, but I'm sure there were basic things like simple strats and combos for her since most characters had that. Most characters that had any detailed discussion where only ones that people played, and actually cared enough to post on GCNET, which pretty much was not a whole lot.

I probably could get the backuped threads if you'd like, since you seem somewhat interested in the game, and cuz my friend use to run that site and might have it backed up. If not, I might know of a fellow that could help you somewhat. I dunno how much of Tenkai he knows or has played, but he likes and plays the older SS games like SS2 to SS5SP.

As for Saturday....I'll come for a bit.

Thanks for the offer man! For now though let's just hold off on it, since there doesn't seem to be remotely enough interest to warrant any kind of competitive play on this game.  I'm just playing it casually because the pacing is fantastic, and I've always been a huge fanboy of SNK Iroha maids and shit danbooru tags games that are this yomi heavy.

I guess it's kinda unfair for me to say things like, so I bite the bullet for that one. It's just that I don't trust the guy, since he doesn't have a good track record, especially on GCNET. Over there he got banned for posting misleading information and plagiarizing from other people's posts and FAQs. Not cool. There showed that he doesn't know much about Tenka, and his matches are laughably bad.

In an immature way, I'm kinda glad he got banned on SRK. I don't miss reading in like half of his posts, cues of him hyping himself up, like he's some great SNK fighting game player, when he'd get raped by random fobs that don't take the game an ounce as serious as he does (at least he has admit that a bit). I think it's smart and cool to try to give KOF a voice online, in order to try to build up a serious, competitive community. I just don't see the need to do it with such an ego and retarded attitude.

That is not a normal super, it is a special super activated after getting 4-5 hits while in heat mode. Jeff and I were trying that combo after you left, it is basically gachi drive>heat up>jump c >close c >far c >crouching c, also you can do his power up move after the end of the combo as a follow up. Looks like this youtube user has a lot of good BF stuff http://www.youtube.com/user/LiSyaoran3063

That game is Kinnukiman Muscle Grand Prix 2. I use to play the older version with a friend of mine, but that version was the previous one-console-only release on the PS2. It's called the same but has MAX instead of 2. It's greatest wrestling-themed fighting game ever. They got it down perfect in my opinion.

Sounds good, I really should learn Tekken 5/6 since I could play it against people here everyday if I wanted. I finally looked up what Shin's "faint" move does, they are small unblockable fireballs that do no damage but add to your opponents dizzy modifier. Apparently Shin's matchup against Raoh is pretty bad, so I really need to step up my game with him (I think learning blockstrings would be a good start, especially because getting guard break isn't that hard in HnK).

lol @ Bison with his photoshop editing skills.

Here's some info for MGP2 that will help:

Engine stuff:

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=5659327&postcount=88

The basic mixup is attack/throw, since low hits can be guarded just by blocking. Low hits are still pretty good for some characters, since you can use them to punish throw attempts. This is a great punish for Kinnukiman since he cancel his low hit into Megaton Punch and gets a free throw cuz Megaton induces heavy stun.

Even though the game's mixup is 50/50, there's ways to bait mixup to make it fresh. The game is pretty straightforward, yet it's pretty fun. IMO of course. If you have questions I can try my best to answer them for you, or at least point you to the right direction.

Looks like I need to choose a secondary character, since I try to play Bob in T6. IDK who to choose though. When DR came out, I use to play the bear. :psyduck:

Dinur let's play Rumble Fish sometime.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Light# December 10, 2008, 04:21:17 PM
Sure. Rumble Fish was kinda fun, though playing it now would be a disappointment, since there's no port of 2.

I kinda regret not giving RB2 much of a chance in the arcades, since it was fun. I just spent my money playing DR and MBAC instead since I thought a port would eventually come out.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Sarsapari December 10, 2008, 08:42:07 PM
I wouldn't exactly call it a disappointment, especially since the PS2 version has Hazama and Sheryl so it's more like RF 1.5 anyways.

On an unrelated note, it really does surprise me how Dimps can make something like RF, then go on and make Dragon Ball games lol :mystery:
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Light# December 11, 2008, 08:44:27 AM
Never mind, I'll go on Saturday.

Uh, IDK. They did admit that they were targeting the casual audience with those games IIRC. If you want something more serious, just play Chou Dragon Ball Z IMO, though Sparking seems kinda cool.

Alright everyone, I'm planning on having a large combination LAN party and fighting game gathering sometime between Dec 26 and 30 but I'm going to have to decide on the exact date pretty quick. Please reply to this post with whatever dates are good for you ASAP. I will have chosen a date by the 24th. As for games, you can bring anything you like and I can provide almost any fighter there is. I plan to have at least BB GGAC+, HnK, SCIV, Battle Fantasia on the fighting game end and Starcraft and various FPS games on the LAN end. I spoke with Derrick and it's likely that we will bring his BlazBlue machine to my house for the event. I will need people to bring TVs, their PCs, ethernet hubs and CAT5. I live in Redwood City. PM me if you need my address.

My gathering is going to be on Sunday, December 28th. It will be at my house in Redwood City It will start and 1PM and go until whenever. Probably some ridiculous morning hour. Unless there's an unforeseen issue with the BlazBlue cabinet I'll hold a tournament for that game ($5, double elim, 70/20/10) and people are free to hold their own tournaments for any other game that will be present. If you need my address and/or cell # or have other questions drop me a PM.

It doesn't follow the established pattern if the characters John chooses are good. =P

: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Light January 22, 2009, 10:21:30 AM
That makes sense. You play Rachel. ; )

That's true but Iroha's top tier in SS Tenka! I guess busty maids are omitted from that rule.  :fap:
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Sarsapari January 22, 2009, 07:21:23 PM
I just play Iroha because she's the only obvious moe design in the game, seeing as how she was created by examu

Plus it's always funny screwing with people's anti airs and making them eat a 30% ten dial a combo.  Anyway I play that game like garbage so I can't count that as a game I even play lol.  That'd be like saying I played Tekken 5.0 Nina :V

It doesn't follow the established pattern if the characters John chooses are good. =P

Besides, I'll play all the Rin he isn't. :3

<3 Seiba <3 is actually a lot better than most of the character I normally end up maining due to fanboy reasons lol.  Regardless she's my favorite character in like anything.  So I wouldn't even care if she was Yoshitora tier, although I am aware this can be interpreted on both ends of the spectrum depending on the game XD.

Think I'll play her on color 3.  Lily Saber is cute and all but surprisingly lacks in blue, which is like her primary color.

Not to mention it's weird when, and pardon me if this sounds like blasphemy to you, she looks too cute.

Apparently he hates Rin with a passion. I guess she just isn't masculine enough for him...

nigga yo couch is too masculine.  I don't need you to lecture me on why I should like tsundere :p

lol.

IDK if it was in this video or another one I was watching, but Gief's lariats doing yoga flames is hilarious.

The uppercut glitch is arcade only. I don't remember how you do it. Ask Jon or check my thread on SRK or the HNK forum on DLoop. I'm sure you'd find the answer quicker on DLoop though.

lol Jon, did you hear what happened with AH? There's no reason to play that game anymore. Save yourself!
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Sarsapari February 04, 2009, 07:25:31 PM
Yeah I read that in the thread on FGD <3nana made.

I never took Arcana too seriously to begin with so there shouldn't be any problems with it.  Besides Lilica is too blond and too cute to not play the game at least on a casual level :V

Anyways I'm too consumed right now with a game where I can't even do a standard bnb in (although standard bnb is 100%) </sadness>

@cksora - you're better off learning the basketball setup for Rei off of 1 boost and 1 super anyways.  If you're thinking about putting some time into it you should get it soon enough since it's the easiest basketball setup in the game.  The Rei thread on DL is a bit outdated so I'd highly suggest either asking on the FGD thread on SRK or #ggac/#mbac.

There does seem to be a good chance of it happening since the game has not done too well at SJSU. That said, i'll believe it when I actually see it and TBH if its going to be the same cabinet thats at SJSU, I'd almost prefer just waiting for console release (it has sticks with no gates, happ buttons and the volume cranked up so loud my ears hurt after playing it for 15 minutes.

Sorry guys, but I don't feel up for it this week. I got the flu last week and am still recovering, and besides that I ragequit HnK a long time ago. Oh yeah, and if I do host again this summer, I won't be letting more than 4 people up, that last session could have gotten me kicked out.

Is anybody going to be interested in meeting for some MBAA at SFSU on weekends? I just moved out of the apartments into a townhouse with much more space so I'm willing to host if people are interested (pending some roommate approval). Also I will be bringing a setup to the student center every friday to try and get some hype going with some other students here.

: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Shizuka August 24, 2009, 07:35:57 PM
Yeah I Jeff I'd be down for that, Starting on the 31st I'll be there everyday at 8am to 9am, then I have some free time.
Tuesday and Thursday I'm free after that until 7pm so Thursdays will be the best day for me to play.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: ckosra August 25, 2009, 07:54:50 PM
So Stewart and I are going to be playing some games this Saturday at my place (still on campus), anybody is welcome to join us. Not sure if I will have my copy of MBAA yet though so it might be limited to GG/BB/KOF unless somebody can bring a MBAA setup.

Pretty sure I do, unless you changed your phone number recently (well within the last few months). Also, I don't remember whether or not you have a japanese ps2 for MBAA.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: ckosra August 27, 2009, 07:37:21 PM
I have an un-modded Japanese PS2, but I do not have my copy of MBAA yet. So if you have a legit copy of MBAA bring it, thats all that will be needed, otherwise we need a whole setup for MBAA (modded PS2+game). Although if Jeff shows up we can just play on his laptop  :V

Yeah about that, I know I said earlier in the thread that I was going to be bringing a TV down to the student center, but because an unexpected upgrade in housing, i'm just hosting at my townhouse. Tomorrow (Friday 8/28) i'm going to be meeting up with some people at the student center around noon, and at one we will be heading to my place. If you want to join us on Fridays PM me and i'll send you the necessary info, alternatively you can try and find us tomorrow if your free at noon, i'll probably be playing BB on the cab.

hi guys how is mbaa going so far

Pretty good, we have been having weekly sessions on Fridays at SFSU since the semester started with no sign of stopping. We have 2 setups since Jeff brings his laptop which is great because I seem to be the only one with PS2 stick around here  :psyduck:
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.

how is laptop setup? im pretty sure there is input delay compared to playing on the ps2.

: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Shizuka September 17, 2009, 02:16:08 PM
There is a small delay, but you adjust pretty quick unless it's a really tight link.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: JeffM September 21, 2009, 09:43:28 PM
how is laptop setup? im pretty sure there is input delay compared to playing on the ps2.

i'd guess it's about one frame of lag. maybe two frames, tops. the lcd on my laptop has an average of 16 ms on input delay, so that actually might be the source of lag. i didn't notice that i had to do any timing adjustments when i played on the ps2; however, i can't say i've played enough on the ps2 ver. to confirm that.

IMO its pretty good- i'm able to do some of kohaku's harder links/combos without noticeable conscious-delay-compensated inputs, so yeah

Might as well work on it, not really anything on the line. And in any case, I'm more worried figuring out ways to get out of pressure than just winning. Also, in that same vein, anyone know the easiest way we could go about recording matches?

So far I know of Jeff and myself.

Just remembered that Jeff is in the EC this week. So, it's doubtful that a SF session will happen before Sat.

Is there anyone interested in Fremont sessions? They will be at Chabot usually friday evenings. I'll keep people posted once I get more info.

I have returned to SF for the spring semester. I don't have any friday classes so I intend to continue hosting sessions every friday (unless I say otherwise). First regular session will on the 29th, but I don't have much to do from the 18th-22th so let me know if you guys want to meet up.

So I have finished uploading this week's batch of videos to youtube (http://www.youtube.com/ckosra). I will make a playlist for each week's session, with the date listed prominently to keep things organized. If anybody has a problem the videos (name used or otherwise) or if you see any errors in the players or characters listed in the name or description let me know so I can fix it. Unfortunately I was unable to upload about 20 minutes of Yat vs Snozz because youtube kept giving me an error. A couple of things you guys need to do to make this easier for me: 1) Play 2/3 round matches (while I personally prefer 3/5 rounds over 2/3, I need to be able to break the matches into smaller segments) 2) Change stages when you switch out players, preferably to one with a different color palette (ex. blue to red). One last thing, Sessions now need to wrap up around 1 a.m. and people need to be out completely by 2 a.m. Also no more playing mahjong and listening to enka at the same time  :emo:

Did you try uploading without the upload bar thing? I had some problems uploading before, and when I tried it without the bar, it worked (and uploaded much faster).

Also, I think the video titles should be like "MBAA date player 1 (char) vs. player 2 (char)" and maybe throw Norcal in there somewhere.

Lastly, why must you hate on enka?

I will try that, and change the names to the suggested template tomorrow, the way they are currently was primarily for my own organizational purposes anyways. Nothing wrong with enka (it was quite catchy in fact) but coupled with the mahjong its just too...  :psyduck:

Oh yeah, and if you can't get it uploaded, can you keep the vids on your comp until next week? I'll bring my external, and just grab the files.

Also, the match between me and CT cut off before the match ended.

The enka made the Mah Jong hype for the spectators (me).

Also 2 weeks to the ranbat, we should figure out how we're getting there. I'm down for a mass bus ride to get there if Jeff isn't down to drive. SFSU Bus would be pretty hype.

Looks like I was able to upload it this morning  :mystery:   About the match with CT_Warrior, that last one should not have been on there, rather it should be in another segment, don't worry about it though there will be plenty of footage of you against everybody.

My stick execution and consistency went up quite a bit!
I really need to resolve to get my own stick once I get enough money.

How much would it cost for a full sanwa-stick?
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: dakanya January 26, 2010, 08:33:21 PM
for a cheap custom...
$25 for the stick
$20 (2.50 x8) for the buttons
~$50 for a case via a cheap local woodworker if he's up to it (Riotblade)
$10 or less ps1ds pcb
which comes out to roughly $100

you can also buy used sticks or get something current ie HRAP3 SA or the TE and mod it

If you're really poor, try and find a stock tekken 5 anniversary stick, they go for like 50 and they're okay for stock, and easy to mod when you want to do it.

- TVs: 3 + 1 from KatanaDash
- CRTs: 1
- PS2: 2 MBAA Setups; 2 GGAC Setups + 1 Backup
- Surge Outlets: 3
- Chairs: 9
BYOC

Updated list of setups.  If everybody, who posted, is bringing their allotted setups, then we're good.  The office can hold no more than 5 TVs. So we're looking at 2 setups for ggac and 2 for mbaa + 1 backup. If you're bringing a setup, then please try to show up, at least, 30 minutes prior the tournament time.

Remember, the tournament is, tentative, to start at 2pm. The reality is that Nor Cal has loads of, driveless, amiable people - which has it's pros and cons. Don't feel pressured to arrive on time. But if you are going to be late, then contact PhaethonH, Ginseng, Tsubasa, Honnou, or I. And if you do, then please show up - no later - than one hour from the appointed tournament time. We will be starting it without you.

Mad salty, also it ended up doing less damage than your full BNB, so my point ("WTF?, WHY?!") is valid.

Also Oscar, why doesn't the camera ever catch me when I'm playing well? :(

Only cause i missed the air ender due to major suckage!!!!1!1!  You didn't tech so that would've been extra 1.5k had i done the additional inputs properly.

As for why I do it, sometimes I don't feel the last rekka would connect so I throw that thing out to see if it'll hit. If it doesn't...well I eat the 5k and feel SUPER SPECIAL! If it does hit, it drains good chunk of red health and gives them the option to tech (unless counterhit) or not tech in which case i follow for 3-3.5k very invalid combo.

Don't be mad salty, anger is bad for the soul. Be one with the universe~!

You don't want me to answer that  :psyduck: Don't worry about it though there was one match where I played so terribly I decided to delete it as nothing could be gained by watching it  :emo: Given that my idea of super random selection for team battles was a complete disaster I think that if we do teams again 2v2 would be a better format, that way everybody is more likely to get a chance to play.

Ok so, the likely route to get to the ranbat is via bart and caltrain, if we wanna make it on time we pretty much need to be on caltrain at the 10:31 departure from the Millbrae station.
http://www.caltrain.com/timetable.html

It looks like it's pretty much a walk from there, unless someone can pick us up at the station.
Walking Route (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Redwood+city&daddr=1735+E.+Bayshore+Rd.+Ste.+2B+Redwood+City+94063&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&dirflg=r&date=02/02/10&time=4:29pm&ttype=dep&noexp=0&noal=0&sort=&tline=&vps=1&sll=37.48546,-122.231891&sspn=0.012293,0.01929&ie=UTF8")
Caltrain will cost 5$ for a day pass, plus whatever your bart cost is, so make sure you bring enough bux to cover that.
We can discuss the remaining details on Friday.
Post up if you plan to go, or if you can pick our poverty asses up from the train!

Alright, my posts finally work now. I had some weird error before.
Thanks for the stick tips!

I got a pretty decent stick from Oscar. The stick was tight at first, and I couldn't open up the stick because the minus head was kinda broken, or if it was even a minus head. I made a ghetto stick loosening device and left it overnight for two days, and it got a lot better.

The buttons are great. All my Melty buttons passed the Stepmania test, although a few of the others need to be replaced.

It's very light and portable, with PS3/PC inputs, so I'm liking my purchase.  :D

Are we still going to do that Roa tournament?
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: ckosra February 03, 2010, 04:16:05 PM
:blah:

Yeah those screws are all stripped out  :psyduck:, I sold it to cheap because of all those defects from the various and clumsy modifications done to it since I got it (it was my first stick, but I have had no use for it since I got my HRAP). I don't think a Roa only tournament would be worth doing or watching, since most people would just be picking him for tourney rather than maining him, but teams of 2 using the same character, different grooves might be cool (ex. team kohaku vs team nero).
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: CT_Warrior February 03, 2010, 04:20:29 PM
Sounds good. I think I may replace the stick for long term usage though. My grip style just sort of requires loose sticks. I've been managing by holding it at the very top and using the leverage.
What model of Sanwa stick should I use to fit the FS3?
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: ckosra February 03, 2010, 04:28:44 PM
I have no clue, Jeff did the mods on my sticks, and he was just using parts from my HRAP. FS3 aren't really easy to mod, but I am sure somebody has done it before. Your best bet for an answer to that question is SRK's tech talk forums  (http://www.shoryuken.com/forumdisplay.php?f=177&s=b79d57173bd4e6367b81db2185c88a08)

How old are the buttons on this stick? They work well when they do, so I'm suspecting loose or weak contacts on just two of the non-Melty Stepmania buttons.

I have no clue what you mean by "non-Melty Stepmania buttons". The blue sanwa buttons are probably approaching 2 years, although they didn't really get played on too heavily. They had to be soldered in so that might be what is getting loose.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: mir February 04, 2010, 09:40:31 PM
ugh on-board soldering isn't fun at all, why would you subject yourself to that?

Oh and make sure it's the buttons and not one of the resistors. Yar had an issue where a directional wasn't registering unless you apply pressure on the board and it turned out to be a cracked resistor on the other side of the pcb. The only reason I found it was because it broke in half when i heated it.

: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: CT_Warrior February 04, 2010, 09:50:31 PM
Well essentially, I just meant the buttons that see less use in general. I think it is just a loose contact though, thanks for the warning. ;D
I'm just an avid and picky SM player that would subject himself to on-board soldering just because of one or two blank registers every thousand keypresses.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: ckosra February 04, 2010, 10:04:44 PM
I really wouldn't waste money modifying or repairing that stick further, just use it until you can afford a better, more easily modified stick.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: Shizuka February 04, 2010, 10:41:45 PM
If you're good with a soldering iron, on-board soldering isn't that bad. It's not really necessary in most cases.

The next SJSU session should be happening on Saturday, February 13th.  Otherwise, yeah, follow the NorPor thread for further information.  It's the thread that south bay-related discussion happens in.

Special Guest appearances by Sims and Yar. See you guys next week!

Note to Mir YOU ARE BANNED FOR 1 WEEK Yes I am serious. Don't fuck with my computer while I am away or without asking me first. If you wanted to play your music you could have just connected it to the speakers directly.

Can you guys check out the SJSU Campus Village to see if it's available on Saturday, March 6th?

Yeah, we have been sessioning every friday since the semester started and won't stop until I move out in may. I'm glad to hear somebody with a PS2 stick is planning on coming.

*edit* I should be able to record directly to my macbook on the main setup this week, and with my camera if we have a second setup going.

No Session This Coming Week 2/19

Not that anybody would be showing up anyways between the furlough day and American Melty.

I am working on uploading the videos now, but from now on I won't be labeling who is playing in each individual video because I don't have the time.

Videos up on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6B05395CAC1A2902). The audio is horribly desynchronized ORZ. I will stick with the cam for the remaining sessions since the quality is fine, and less recordings is fine too, since uploading this huge batch sucked up all the bandwith for my house resulting in salty roommates.

I have not seen it but I will keep an eye out for it. I have about 10 vids from the SJSU session but I need to wait until really late tonight to upload them, otherwise my roommates will be pissed at me again.

I am interested in hosting a Saturday session this week (in addition to the regular Friday one). There are at least 2 people who can't make a Sunday session at SJSU, and I personally loathe the idea of going to SJSU this weekend, so I am just probing for interest in Saturday at SFSU. Post up if you want to come and think you can make it.

You can use it for Battle Fantasia!

I am still waiting for all the parts to come in but I am going to test livestreaming next week, and if it works out I will bring that setup to the ranbat.

The problem with livestreaming at the ranbat is that we will have to share bandwidth with the GGAC tourny. At the moment just recording is fine but we will try to stream top 4 again. I'm not even sure if we will be allowed internet access at the new venue.

It doesn't make bit a of difference though the setup should work great for either live streaming or direct recording.

What does your setup consist of right now anyways? I am curious.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: ckosra February 25, 2010, 06:16:31 PM
Nothing fancy. Just an amplified splitter 1 in 4 out which takes composite or S-video and a usb capture card that will take composite, component, or S-video. I will also have the necessary male to male cables for S-video and composite. Still waiting for the stuff to arrive though so no guarantees, but it should work fine in theory. If somebody has a TV with component out and the necessary component male to male cables I could record that way too but if we are using Tsubasa's setup I will need to use the splitter (Ideally I would have liked to get a component splitter but they were waaay too expensive) I think s-video quality should be fine, especially for youtube.

I have a favor to ask here from anyone who knows how to split cables n' such.  I want to showcase the top 8 from MBAA/GGAC on the large screen HDTV.  Of course, we're not going to run the tournament on that TV, but I want to split it between the tube TV and the HDTV.  Doing so will allow you to watch matches anywhere within the room.  Will anybody be able to lend equipment or know how to follow up on this task?  If so, then can I count on you bringing it?

I don't think it was for lack of trying but his gameplan/mixup revolves entirely around volcanic viper, command throw, and horrible moves like riot stamp and bandit bringer, meaning he was bound to lose some rounds hard (also note complete absence of gunflame). I don't think I will post GG again unless I make it to real GGAC gathering, I would hate to tarnish Norcal's GG reputation further.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: CT_Warrior March 24, 2010, 06:16:32 PM
H-Ries pressure is looking pretty insane. I'll map out my reverse-beat style for you.

You only have one string to memorize.

String (Pointblank-range):
2A - 5B5A(no delay, whiff cancel immediately) - 2A(full recovery) - 5B5A - 6A  - (2Cdelay2A - 5B5A -6A)xRepeat

String (After IAD jA/jumpbackward ad jC):
Walk a bit after IAD jA enough so that the 2A(full recovery) doesn't whiff. Dashin after jump jC. Refer to string above.

The dash marks are where you should pause a bit or reset pressure by:
1) IAD jA for a quick attack that doesn't require the opponent to be standing. Great for punishing mashers. Walk a bit before 2A after landing for a frametrap, and leniency to mix-in a throw.
2) Jump backward ad jC. This is much safer versus IAD jA, especially if your opponent antiairs your IAD jA, like Nero might. Punishes a lot more moves, but a single 2A poke that may have been punished with IAD jA will be left unpunished and your opponent has more time to jump out of it.
3) Walk/dash throw depending on distance. Yep, probably your main mixup.

That string over there is pretty godly. There's absolutely no place to jump out safely, and hitconfirming is easy. There's an infinite pressure loop that you can do in it with easy hitconfirm. When you hitconfirm, don't use 5C, use 2B into 2C instead since 5C has too much pushback. Stronger than H-Ryougi's pressure, but less guard damage. Master the 2A(full recovery)5B timing by practicing 5B2A5B and 2Cdelay2A timings by looping that infinite pressure string.

You might have to hitconfirm of 6AAA. I'd recommend this combo when 2C and 5B is already used:
6AAA 6Bcharged delay 5C jCdelay6C j[C] djC6C jC djC at

I'm going to replace my C-Ryougi with H-Ries. Her pressure is one of the strongest imo, only under Sion.
Practice resetting at each dash, and it'll become second nature later on.

: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: ckosra March 24, 2010, 07:11:24 PM
:blah:

Great stuff, thanks for sharing. Yeah H-ries is really strong, I just haven't tapped that potential. If I find some time I will try and learn this, it would be nice to make people block for once.

Oh yeah, that's true. Sol doesn't have much to work with. And what kind of rep does the norcal GG scene have?
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: ckosra March 31, 2010, 12:48:56 AM
I was just joking about that, because for the most part people that play GGAC at my place are beginners. I don't really know what the rep is for norcal, but it is pretty much irrelevant since most other GGAC scenes are dead/stagnant.

: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: CT_Warrior April 05, 2010, 10:03:30 PM
Hisui stuff, but the general tips apply to everyone in the cast:

Combo:
2A 5B 5C 2C 6B j[C]AB land jBC --> djC.B..B / djBC airthrow

I'd actually recommend it over her yayaya combo, especially midscreen because:
1) Works on every character.
2) Less hits, makes techpunishing inputs more lenient. (After jBB, if you already did 22-24 hits, they can airtech the standard punishes without harm)
3) Easier execution and techpunish spacing (sometimes you superdoublejump, sometimes you jump neutral instead of forward and etc to land at around the right area)

2A 5B 5C 2C 6C jC ad jB..B236B land 6B2A jBC djC.B..B
Corner only. Higher damage. Less reverse beats.

Blockstring:
2A - 5B5A - 2A - dash 2A - 2A(depends on spacing) - 2A (full recovery) - 5B5A - 5[C]2A (charge 5[C] only enough to get two hits with minimal charge time) - 2B5A or dash 2A for full reset -
2A - 5B5A - 2A(full recovery) - 2B5A - into whatever.

At any dashmark you can:
1) dash 2A, strong option to mixup if you do this out of their 2A range as they will whiff their 2A during the dash delay if they mash.
2) IAD jC(whiff or hit) / IAD jA , beats all scrubby mashing except Nero's 2A, you'll have to practice catching jumpouts if they react to it, but that's never guarenteed. jA delayed, good for tickthrows, safer than whiff jC.
3) dash/walk grab, YES. If you're pushed back too far though, it's very risky as you have to waste a quarter of a second dashing in to get into grab range. Dash 2A would be better during those times.
4) EX dust. You can purposely do nothing in your blockstring for even a whole second, and throw it out in hopes that you catch their jumpout or mashing. Resets blockstrings, watch out for bunker.

Neutral game:

Aggressive and Passive-Aggressive Strats:
1) Instant jA/jB, counter hit or force opponent in air to block since it's too fast to react against.
2) Superjump/Instant jC, normally done with forward jump to force them to block if they're trying to react and not mashing Nero's jC in the air. Cancel to whatever and force them into a blockstring when they land if you can.
3) Dash 5A, catch jumpouts in neutral with Hisui's quick dash. If they already jumped, you can probably do one of the above.
4) 5[C], let go at your discretion. Will crush dashin ground attack attempts. Can catch jumpouts. Risky as antiair (but I do it anyway).
5) 623B, throw it out if they're in a good place to airdash at you when you're on the ground. They may get wary of it and doublejump back before airdashing, yomi it. :D
6) 623C, gives you a safe haven to throw pots, setup bentos or to do an instant attack if they're fishing for an opening while you're near it. I use it when I see them airdash at me near close range. If they already threw an attack out, you have a combo opportunity. When they land, throw it out and force them to block it, then try to antiair them with instant airattacks, dash 5A, or potbooks to force them into corner.
7) Pots/books/potbooks, I can't say much here, but they're safer than instant attacks and 5[C].
8) Arc drive, :D
9) IAD jB, setup air blockstring and try to force them to block on the ground.
10) Activate heat if they back off to save your red health from being chipped since you don't have much use for meter anyway. You get an arcdrive opportunity as well!

Defensive:
1) If your opponent is landing near you after a jump or a dash:  It's risky to attack. Jump and block the attack in the air rather than blocking it on the ground. You have so many more options afterward, same things applies in corner when escaping pressure but beware of guard break setups and air dodge when you smell it. You can also backdash instead of groundblocking, but that depends on your opponent's spacing. You can also activate heat if you're willing to take the risk.
2) If your opponent is reasonably near you and you're floating in the air, or thinking of jumping (exactly what you're trying to punish above): Do some footsies with backwards/neutral momentum to give you time to react. jA and jC works best.

You've got good damage, defense, strong okizeme after most combos, and great neutral game. Instead of shieldable and blockable overheads that work less often overtime, you have breakable throws that are unshieldable, and give you a chance to re-pressure after a throw break via dust and the fact that they're cornered already. Not biased at all. :)

Oh yeah, tech punish setups:
1) 5A 2C, punishes neutral and no tech. Do 2C immediately after 5A. 5A 2C delay 623A 22A for no tech punish. 5A 2C into whatever for neutral tech punish.
2) 2B, punishes back and forward tech. 2B5AA[A] for OTG string. Pay attention to any teching of the second bounce before going for OTG string. Not too many 5As, otherwise punishing neutral tech is harder due to range.

I think I pretty much covered -everything-. I mean everything. x_x

EDIT: I'll cover bento setups another time. pfft

Damn, I wasn't expecting this thorough of a write up when you told me that you would post something  :psyduck: :psyduck: :psyduck:

I really do want to pick up the character though and with this I have everything I need to for now (except the free time to grind stuff). Meanwhile you should try and find a main in GG if it isn't going to be Dizzy. We should all enter in GG next time, I know I plan to. I hope you didn't get in too much trouble for Saturday.

Friday 4/30 is the last session I will be hosting. It ends strictly at 2 a.m. It was fun while it lasted but I am moving out soon, and I require the next two weeks to prepare for finals.

Hello Melty Bread

I know the main scene is in SJ, but thats just a little too far for me, since I am even further north. Just curious if anyone would be interested in planning an event closer to home.

I am just above SF and I would be really excited to come into the city (Berkeley, etc is also fine) or somewhere nearby to play some matches. If someone who lives nearby or goes to college down there can rent or borrow a room for something that would be awesome! I am not against trying myself, but I live up in the middle of Suburbia, north of Marin county, so it would be better to meet more people closer to civilization. I have computer monitors, PS2, PS3 I can bring to the event also.

Interested in what ever game people want to play, AH3, MBAA being fine candidates. So please anyone with connections and the motivation to help make this work is appreciated! I was told there is a user here named Tone who is in my area too, we might even be able to arrange car pools.

Lets have some fun!

I'm not sure exactly where you live, but we hold weekly sessions in Fairfield. It's primarily MVC3 oriented, but we pretty much run just about every game under the sun. I've been running AH3 every week, though it'd be really nice to run MBAA too since I haven't been up to speed in a while, and I'm the only person in the area who cares about the game.

Thanks Tone. I'll be sure to read/post in the SRK thread to see what goes for lodging over there. I am just a meer 1 hour away. Planning on coming by next weekend if I can!

Btw, you are not the only mb player in north bay anymore, but don't worry you are still the best :P

Dunno if I'm bumping a dead thread (I hope it's not a dead community...), but a new arcade opened in San Francisco called "Southtown Arcade". STA's owner told me he'd be up to get MB:AA:CC if there was some interest from the community in the area. I've made a topic in the general discussion and I'd like to see who would be up to support it. If there's enough support, he'll definitely get the machine. I'm really digging for some support so please let me know what you think!

Here's the link to their website: South Town Arcade (http://www.southtownarcade.com)

And the link to the thread I'm working on is here (http://www.meltybread.com/forums/melty-blood-auditorium/possible-mbaacc-location-southtown-arcade-in-sf/)

So we're starting some sessions in San Francisco and San Mateo.

Next session will likely be first week of July in San Mateo at Game Center, 47 South B. Street in San Mateo

San Francisco's first session will be July 3rd at Southtown Arcade, 447 Stockton Street, San Francisco. If you'd like to help organize this event and also help out with encouraging people to come, please send me a message here or reach me at Facebook: James Alderson. Hey All -

I'm going to be moving up to the South Bay (Mountain View / Sunnyvale) area from LA at the end of May -

I've been going to FFA down here to play Melty pretty much every week. Just trying to see if I can find a scene up there! What do people do (where do they go) to get matches in?
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: dakanya April 20, 2012, 03:29:19 PM
the competitive scene here has died off, maybe there are some randoms playing casuals in a cave or something.

the closest arcade to south bay would be gamecenter in san mateo and there's also southtown in san francisco. most people have moved on to other games, namely guilty gear and gundam extreme versus.

i am considering having a side tournament for melty at gamecenter next weekend but it depends on interest and numbers.

Ok, good to know.  It looks like I'd be able to easily commute to Game Center - and I have a friend in SF who could introduce me to Southtown.

I'd totally show up to the tourney - but I won't be up there until the end of May; just scouting around at the moment.

Thanks for the info!

Well - when I get up there, I'd be all down for recurring casuals / matches.   :)  But I'm not going to do anything so presumptuous as try to reboot a scene until I'm settled in.
: Re: Northern California: Berkeley, SF, etc.
: sharkchowder June 17, 2012, 12:53:46 AM
Just a quick heads up -

I went to Gamecenter tonight, brought my notebook and actually got a bunch of rounds of Melty in. Felt damned good! I'd be down for hitting San Mateo every couple of weeks or so - maybe weekly if I knew people were going to be there :)

- Now to check out that arcade version that's apparently at Southtown. Maybe I'll hit that next weekend. Oh wait, actually, there's a chance I'll be back at Gamecenter next weekend, since some friends from LA will probably be up here, and were interested.

this is my first time checking melty blood in a couple months and lo and behold its a norcal post!

sorry i don't host or organize any events for melty blood anymore. you guys should play guilty gear.

if you wanna get in touch i check the gamecenter facebook and norcal dustloop threads regularly

we all quit melty blood to become gundam meisters but i don't mind playing some casuals if we happen to be in the same place at the same time

Hey -

Ok, I'll keep checking those. There's a decent (%50) chance that I'll be there tonight - I'll bring my notebook for Melty casuals, but I don't have extra sticks.

I need some Melty to fight off my depression about missing West Toast down south  :'(
