Northern California: Sacramento Community
« on: July 29, 2007, 01:29:30 AM »
This year's sac anime had a MBAC setup that garnered quite a bit of attention and had a fairly successful tournament.

the number of people who were interested and participated in the game's booth had hit an unexpected number so as a community we've decided to start a Sacramento melty blood community.

our first meeting was today at Q-cup on florin road, and although it was not as successful as planned (only 9 out of an expected 20 people showed up) we had a common ground and our community has finally kicked off.

i invite you all to come out and meet with us if your interested. as of right now, it is not clear yet, however with our current plans, we intend to meet every second and fourth saturday of every month.

the current setup at Q-cup is quite expensive, and we're still trying to gain more support, renting the place out costs about $200 (at roughly $7 a person if we can get 20 or more people per meeting) a night however we have full access to the store's LAN center with games including starcraft, CS, and battlefield. along with tapioca and food services before if you show up before 8:00 however those are not free.

our focus however is still melty blood, we currently have two laptop/PC setups and one PS2 setup for the games. with one large LCD television and two widescreen monitors. other games are also setup such as guilty gear accent core, tekken 5, and super smash bros.

so please, if anyone is interested and willing to know more information, please PM me or leave a comment in this thread, the more the merrier. there are some real contenders in this group that are looking for improvement, challenges, and new acquaintances.

~Satsujinki.

PS: also, leave any douchebaggery at the door, although we maybe a bit rowdy and vulgar at times we are actually quite friendly and mean no real offense or harm, any actual conflicts are to be kept outside. and trust me, the security at the store is NOT to be messed with, you may find a very unfriendly group of scary looking people at your door, should you cause any kind of damage to the store, or cause any physical or verbal harm to the other attendees.

but this goes without saying, right? :3

New update - as of September 2nd, 2007

We will have a meeting on september 22nd, thats coming up in a few weeks, please stay posted for the location. we aren't sure yet if we're going to hold it at Q-Cup or a certain person's house.

more information later.

Just to start, I'm in AZ, so this is just a bit of criticism.

I, personally, wouldn't feel inclined to show up for Melty practice if I had to pay 7 bucks just to get in every time. Is there not some other place you guys can meet that will be free or have a lighter venue cost?

understandable, the $7 entry fee is a bit steep, but it would not be expected if we can get more visitors. if we had more people it would be cheaper. and overall its more of a donation rather than an obligation (at least thats how i felt, but perhaps our generous host may think otherwise haha), but most people came through and spent the money.

Hmm, sac is only an hour or two away from me. Let me know what time you start and end and maybe I'll drive down and check it out one weekend.

Can I get an address? I might drop by with some people if the time is right.

this is our current location :3

ill give more information once i get an OK from the hosts.

were still trying to gain some ground, but if people are interested consistent meets can happen. like i said earlier, our first meeting really hit the hosts wallet hard due to the lack of faces.

this is also subject to change, but the original plan was to meet every second and fourth saturday of every month.

ill keep everyone posted.

As I was hunting for an address earlier I came across that fact that this place is an internet cafe, no wonder it's so expensive.

On a second, and somewhat intriguing note, I also stumbled across a Wiki article about it:

"Q-Cup was an illegal franchise chain of cafes in California. During its operation, Q-Cup offered tea-based drinks and other foods."

I found this to be pretty intresting. Not like I'm holding it against the place though. (I'm sure everything's legit now ;D)

lol had no idea, infact im surprised the store still holds the q-cup name. (not that it matters, i suppose at this point it's no longer a franchise and each individual store that has not changed it's name is a privately owned business.)

Sounds like a plan sir...

Oh yea and I'm assuming we need to supply our own stick/adapters for the PC MBAC correct? I would anyways, I just wanted to ask just in case we needed an extra or something.

yeah, we do need to supply our own arcade pads, however there is an abundant supply of PS2 controllers available for the game (lol go figure.)

on another note, i just got a heads up, and the next meeting will occur possibly early to mid September, also planned for september there is Sac-con going on which is planned to have another Melty blood tournament (back by popular demand, unless something goes wrong :D.)

NEW UPDATE AS OF AUGUST 2nd.

-theres a local tournament hosted by our group at Sac-con coming up, the official date for the next sac-con is september 2nd at the scottish rite center next to sac state, ill put a post in the tournament board later on.

How many people would you say are involved in the Sacramento area MB scene? What are the average/best player skill levels up there?

there's maybe one Arcadia cup level player, i just met him recently, but im more acquainted with his friends, im hoping he shows up again at the next sac-con for the tournament, his group of friends usually show up for sac-con because they have connections with the staff.

all together though there's an average of 14+ people. with the average skill level of mid to high experience play levels, a few newbies, enough to count on one hand.

Greetings all. :D

My friend Alt informed me of the upcoming tournament at Sac-con and told me that apparently Sacramento has a decent Melty Blood scene here.  I'd love to get some games in when you guys have gatherings.

A little bit about myself:

I actually live in Elk Grove, but it's close enough to Sacramento (for the sake of people that don't know where Elk Grove is).  I started playing MB last year, fooled around with Sion and Warc, but after summer was over I haven't really picked up the game since.  My main game is Guilty Gear, where I'm a top Sol player, but I dabble in some other characters as well.  I also dabble a bit in CvS2 and 3S, but I don't really play them that much either.

I was actually surprised to learn that MB had a decent scene here in Sacramento, considering Guilty Gear is a more popular game and a lot of GG players play MB as well... but even after all these years, I seem to be the only GG player in the Sacramento area.  Of course I'm not opposed to playing GG as well if any of you want to learn. :)

I looooooove me some Sion and will probably work on her after Evolution this week, but for now I play Warc because she's a simple character to learn in comparison.

Hit me up if you guys are down to play any time or are planning any kind of gatherings.

Lol. You guys ended up calling it Plastic Cup? I thought that was a joke. Anyway, I'll be sure to attend the Sept. 22nd meeting. Well... I'll try to.
