Since she didn't have one already, I decided to open.

So what do you guys think of her so far ?

I use her Full Moon Style since I like her 623 & 236 moves.

5b 6b 5c 236a. basic max damage midscreen meterless for corner carry. you're not going to land 5b opener often so this is usually a whiff punish combo only.

2aa 5b 6b 5c 236a. same combo, more practical version. use midscreen when you're too far to do the 214b iad j.6c combo.

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b iad j.6c j.[c] dj.ac AT. this deals less damage than max damage but has better carry.

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b iad j.6c j.[c] AT. this is the oki variant. single jump into AT nets ries advantage on wakeup.

2aa 5b 6b 2c 6c 214a j.c dj.ac AT. this combo is really only used for one thing, when you land a 2c 6c confirm during blockstrings. this is not max damage and obviously has poor carry.

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b j.[c] dj.c dj.6c sj8 j.ac dj.ac AT. this is the easiest version of her corner max damage 214b combo. use when you want raw damage. be sure to use dj9, it crosses under and helps with positioning if you're further back. using sj.a is safer because if you whiff, you can still move afterwards but if you whiff j.b, you're kinda screwed.

2aa 5b 6b 5c 6c 214b j.[c] dj.c dj.6c sj8 j.bc sdj.bc AT. this is the max damage variant.

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b j.c j.6c 6[ b] 2a 236a. this is new to cc and is the best oki combo she has off 214b. there are a number of timing requirements for this combo. first, delay the jump cancel off 214b. second, use j7 for proper spacing. third, take two steps forward before starting 6[ b]. it's possible to combo 5b 236a or even 5b 2b 236b, but it's extremely difficult. you can also do 6[ b] 2c if you want to deadbody crossup in the corner.

j.c 2aa 5b 5c 214b j.c j.6c 6[ b] 2a 236a. same combo with j.c starter. as a general rule of thumb, omit 6b off jumpins because there's too much pushback and it causes things to whiff.

gold AT -> 2c 214a j.bc sdj.bc AT. gold airthrow combo, damage variant.

gold AT -> 2c 236a. gold airthrow, oki variant. yes, really.

ch air j.b -> 6[ b] 2a 236a. basic ch j.b combo, oki variant.

ch air j.b -> 6[ b] 5c j.bc sdj.bc AT. max damage ch j.b combo.

ch air j.b -> 6b 5c j.c dj.c dj.6c sj8 j.ac dj.ac AT. corner max damage variant ch j.b combo.

j.c 2aa 5b 6b 5c IH 5b 5c AD. standard IH AD combo.

ch 214a j.c 2a 5b 6b 5c 236a. 214a can be used in blockstrings to stagger, punish bad pokes, and allow rejump-in for pressure. off a ch, you can commit to a j.[c] or use j.c for slightly less damage if you're not sure it'll ch. remember you burn your jump cancel on 214a, so you can't do a 214a/b combo (you can do IH combo if you have it).

ch j.[c] rising j.c IH j.c 2a 5b 6b 5c AD. unlikely to ever happen, but this is the basic concept of her fuzzy guard (which is hard and i can't do it).

I had messed with F- Stridberg for a time but I had more sucess with C-Stridberg. She doesnt hurt quite like her F incarnation but she makes up for it in versatility and having an additional Guard cancel makes pressure strategy weaker (they can still bait).

bell, I think the 2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b iad j6c 6[b ] 2a 236a midscreen combo is worth considering an essential. Its not really that hard and it does almost exactly the same damage as the full damage version + it gives better oki

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gs7ao4YynbE&feature=youtu.be

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b IAD j6c 6[b ] 2a 236a

Midscreen combo that leads to good okizeme in the corner. Delay the IAD to get this combo to work easier.

6[c] (overhead) 5c ja jc djb/a jc airthrow
6[c] (overhead) 5c jc djc j6c nsjb/a jc dja jc airthrow
6[c] (overhead) 2a 236a

Overhead combos for the corner. First is easy, second is harder, third is for oki (can omit 2a if you want)

214c (overhead) IH 5b 5c AD

Overhead IH confirm into arc drive. You can ex cancel 214c into 236c without IH but the damage is really pitiful and Ries has better use for the meter.

6[c] combos are kinda self explanatory but I threw those in anyway (you can actually get into 214b if you are spaced correctly but its so precise it may as well not exist), as well as an obligatory 214c IH combo.

(don't frontpage this shitty video please chibi, its just to add some things)

couple of notes:

1) i've noticed that instead of j8[c] dj9c j6c, j9[c] j8c j6c is more consistent now for the sj8 j.ac dj.ac followup. maybe it's because of the bottom red hitbox nerf on j.c?

2) midscreen iad j.6c combo i posted in the essentials cv is outdated; there's almost no reason not to do the be6b combo since it's actually really easy midscreen. notation: 2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b iad j.6c walk 1 step be6b 2a 236a. this works up to half screen, if you're at 60%ish from the corner you can add 6c before the 214b for the extra carry to get you into the corner.

3) this may just be personal experience but i feel armor removal has changed ries' gameplay a bit. she's primarily slow b/c level moves and in ps2 i know i definitely armored way more moves than i do now, getting a'd a lot more often. this is annoying but adjustment will be required.

okay, so more notes here...

after a bit of testing, came up with some interesting tidbits to keep in mind

ries has two main variants on her corner 236a down combo:

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b (pause) (j7) j.c (pause) j.6c (land) (step) be6b 2a 236a

and

2aa 5b 6b 5c 214b (j9) (j.44) j.6c (land) (step) be6b 2a 236a

the first combo requires a great deal of timing and precision, but deals 300-400 more damage than the second combo. however, the second combo is much more stable: it doesn't require any specific timing and the only requirement is to not exceed two 2a's, since pushback will be too great otherwise.

here's the caveats:

off a j.c, you need to drop a 2a or 6b, or else combo #1 becomes nigh impossible. combo #2 is still doable, but becomes much harder. dropping 6b makes both variants stable.

at most ranges/confirms, you will probably need to drop 6b for combo #1 due to pushback. however, because of j9 iabd for combo #1, you do NOT need to drop 6b for combo #2. this means combo #2 has the same functional damage as combo #1, with much more stability.

if your execution is great, then the clear choice is to always go for combo #1. otherwise for scrubs like me, combo #2 is the way to go; dropping the corner knockdown w/fries is a terrible, terrible thing to have happen.

next point - in the essentials vid, i showed the ps2 midscreen combo, which was:

2aa 5b 6c 5c 214b iad j.6c (land) be j.c dj.ac at

irysa pointed out that this was obsolete because you can replace the rejump with be6b 2a 236a for equivalent damage and superior knockdown. i agreed and annotated that in the notes somewhere.

in 1.07, the screen size is definitely smaller horizontally; carry combos that didn't go wall to wall now do. this becomes evident in ries' gameplay by the fact that there used to be a good chunk of screen space where you would do the 214a bnbs (2c 6c 214a j.c dj.ac at, or 2c 214a j.bc sdj.bc at) because you wanted the damage and the j6c combo wouldn't reach.

however, those combos are now almost wholly deprecated. iad j6c be6b 2a 236a deals the same damage as both of the 214a combos, and unless you're leaving the corner, you will almost always be at the correct screen position to use the j6c carry combo.

for the most part, you will only be using 214a combos off of random hits during pressure, or if you find yourself needing the extra 700 damage over a simple 2aa 5b 6c 5c 236a. you can even safe heat off the iad j6c combo, making 214a bnb with j6c ender deprecated as well.

i personally feel ries' gameplay specifics have changed quite a bit, between the loss of armor, increased walkspeed, and smaller screen which changes a bunch of her optimal confirms. more as i play around further.
