This non-melty related casual chatter.I like you guys, youre very fun,but where's the melty talk...it felt like you tried your hardest to avoid any directly-melty-related talk. That's my 2C.

We didn't avoid talking about Melty. We just had nothing to talk about regarding Melty. There's a huge problem right now, and I'm sure you're unaware of it because you're not in the United States, but the scene is stagnating. A huge chunk of the player base either doesn't care, or going off on how there's no one to play. I'm not bashing anyone, but it's the truth. If we have this kind of attitude, how are we supposed to do stuff about the scene. Look at these forums, look at the latest posts. It's all the general discussion topics, there's hardly any character discussion. I know a lot of it takes place in IRC, but there should still be something. This show is a wake up call. Give us feedback, give us something to work with. We can only interview so many people before it becomes dry. I talked about this a bit in the podcast, we're like a car, if you give us no gas (stuff to talk about) we can't move. This is the call to AAA. Although it seems like we are starting to hate this, we aren't. Chibi enjoys this kind of stuff, he enjoys talking, and he's great at it, and Fox although he does work a job and has school too (he gets home, does the podcast right when he gets home every Tuesday evening) he's dedicated to this. And I have to record this. If I didn't want to do this I would have stopped 5 episodes ago when I started to notice people becoming very negative about things. We enjoy it, give us content before this turns into Chibi's Anime Corner.

p.s. feedback doesn't just mean "Good show", that does nothing for us. Tell us why and everything.

Well, this was rather random. If you don't have any ideas, just make something up.

Few ideas:

Individual character discussion: in-depth discussion of all the moves of any particular character (EX: H-Wara), match-ups of said characters
Types of mixups and how to perform them, how to beat said mixups
What not to do in a match
How to prepare for a tournament

I love the podcast!  I listen to every episode every Wednesday!  I've known Dipstick since '05 and met him IRL last year.  He's a cool dude.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoy the podcast.  Melty Breadcast, to me, represents a podcast produced by a minority.  Sure, there aren't a lot of fighting game related podcast out there to begin with, but this is the only one centered on a less traditional 2D fighter.  Maybe down the road when Melty Blood dies out and new franchises from French Bread or whatever become the new ish, the Breadcast will lose some relevance, but that's what relaunches are for.  "Relaunch" being a term in the sense of perhaps reinventing the Breadcast with a new, more relevant focus.

But until that happens, the Breadcast is still highly relevant and gives a strong voice to the more underrepresented fighting game player.  I can understand if you guys are getting weary.  Releasing these on a regular weekly basis is not easy, and I hold you guys in high regard for being able to do so thus far.  I don't know from experience but I can certainly empathize.  But if you want to continue the Breadcast (and I hope you do), I have some comments and suggestions.

Character Spotlight

MBAA has a lot of characters.  A lot of characters times three.  Try picking one character out of the cast each week and do some analysis.  Which moon style is most commonly used?  What kind of play style is predominant with this character?  Where does this character fall within the tiers?  Who are some noted skilled players of this character?  What makes this character unique from the rest of the cast?  What are the strengths of this character?  What are the weaknesses of this character?  What are some viable ways to approach the match against this character; perhaps give some specific examples of how you guys approach the match with your own character (spacing, baiting, etc.).  What is the key goal to pursue when winning against this character?  For example, against Nero, most would agree the most important key to playing against him is patience during the neutral game (I don't really know, I'm just BS'ing).  Discussing all these aspects and possibly more can fill in 10 minutes.

Mechanic Spotlight

For as many characters in the game, there are just as many system mechanics in MBAA.  Pick one system mechanic and talk about its uses.  Maybe there's a mechanic you don't see being used often enough in American play that you want to rant on about regarding is usefulness.  Perhaps there's a mechanic that you see too many players misusing.  Try and talk about it at length to discuss how it should be used properly.  This will give you maybe 2-5 minutes worth.

Poverty Spotlight

As I've noted, the Breadcast covers Melty Blood.  MB is a small, non-traditional fighting game.  As such, the Breadcast, in my eyes at least, represents those lesser known games that no other fighting game podcast even alludes to.  Try picking one poverty game and have an expert of that game come on the show and discuss it.  What is it?  When was it released?  How does one obtain it?  How does it play?  How many buttons are there?  What aspect(s) about the game makes it unique?  What aspect(s) of the game does it borrow from others?  How does it compare to Melty Blood?  How does it compare to more traditional fighting games?  How many characters are in it?  What do the tiers look like?  What character does the "expert" play?  How does that character play?  What other quirks of the game might possibly appeal to anyone who might want to play around with it (does it have lolis?)?  Doing a feature like this would probably take up a large amount of time and could possibly even fill an entire episode.  If that happens, maybe use this feature biweekly/monthly/etc.

Interview Sp00ky

With the advent of SF4 and live online streaming, Sp00ky has become an instantly recognizable figure in the greater fighting game community seemingly overnight.  Thus, with that overwhelming exposure, most of the people nowadays who know of Sp00ky may not know of him being a rather prominent figure in the Melty Blood community.  Ask him some of the questions you've asked the other players you interviewed.  History, favorite opponent, putting people on blast, etc. etc.  Since he's become more involved in the SF4 scene, try picking his brain about how Melty Blood fits into the larger equation of fighting games today.  What does he think of the current state and the future of Melty Blood?  Of other anime style fighting games?  Does he still find time to play MB?  He runs a live stream and commentates matches often.  Because of that, I'm sure he's trained himself to always have something to say.  Just shooting the shit with him and recording it can yield an interesting interview.

Interview a West Coast Player

Run some of the same structured questions you've posed past interviewees.  Ask them about their scenes.  Talk about the character they use.  Maybe expand upon the Character Spotlight by getting their thoughts.  Personally, I think Xenozip is quite an insightful and articulate player.  He's been around for a long time and is also good at the game.  Try also Xie.

Again, I do hope you guys decide to continue doing the podcast.  It gives me something to listen to in the car when the other podcasts are finished.   :P

Thanks Kobayashi, that is something we've been looking for insight. If no one speaks up in depth on what they want specifically, it's hard to get shows going.

Not much to add to Kobayashi's post, but here's some other feedbacks:
Religion Styles:
I'm not knowledgeable about this, but I think there's some difference in US/JP/EU playstyle. Try to pop out the major/minor differences.

Corner rape escape situations:
I think most of the time, this is the situation where you loose the most of your HP (50-75%). Try discussing the most effective ways of escapes, especially against players with really good corner rape/oki.

Match anailze:
Pick one US/JP tourney match (not necessarily the Grand Final match) and analize it. Point out the major mistakes each player made during the fight and tell what were you did in that situation if you were that player etc.

Compare Melty's unique aspects with other games (SF4, CV2, TVC, MVC2 etc):
Melty has lots of uniqe aspects that other games not contain such as:
- lots of air mobility (double air dash, triple jump, air doge)
- movement allowance while announcer is speaking ("round x, fighto")
- cannot die from block damage
- this is a game with a predominantly female cast (and lolis)
- HP regeneration
- time stop
How these aspects affect the players and gameplay?
These aspects are the reason why some of the players not choose melty?
These aspects makes melty better than other games?

Background advantage:
Certain charaters has advantage on some backgrounds, such as:
Foggy field: c/h-hisui 623 series and j6b
Grassy field: nero snakes, ciel dash, satsuki 3c, len cats/catwalk, F-wlen ground ice, hisui bento
Flaming forest/Red version of Arc's prison: akiha pits/walls/rings and warc rings
Flying sakura field: wlen orbs, arcueid normals
How much "background advantage" affect game play? Significant or insignificant?

I have always told you guys my thoughts on IRC. My apologies if that was not enough.

I listened to the show in the car on the way to school today. Not really bad, as a matter of fact I enjoyed it. It is always good to be truthful and show your audience that you care about what you're producing every week. It also goes to show that the people running this are human beings; well able to have fun sometimes when you ain't got shit to talk about. IMO we need more shows like that (every 8th show or something like that). Hell, let 2-3 extra people on and just have a ball talking about general shit that's either in this community or others. I'm always a fan of letting loose and I'm glad you guys know of that too, even if it only came when you lacked discussions. I understand the whole professional vibe you're trying to bring out too. Just crack a joke sometimes or else people will think we're kinda bland.

I was always proud of the direction the show was going and I have ALWAYS listened. Ya'll my niggas, keep up the good work.

If there's not much to talk about, just skip a week. I enjoy listening to the breadcasts, and I appreciate the effort you guys put into it, but don't try to force it if there's no content.

I can imagine the American scene stagnating, and the reasons are obvious. Here in Europe we only have about 20-30 players who're into this game, and big meetups don't happen more often than every few months. Let alone any tournaments. As long as the game won't get localized, or at least a current-gen console port, the playerbase won't increase at all. Deal with it, and appreciate the fact that America at least has a competitive scene, even if it is a dieing one.

As for content for future casts, a lot of the suggestions posted seem interesting enough. Maybe a topic on personal improvement would be cool. How do the pros practice for tournaments? Is it all about playing versus matches, or is grinding training mode the most important aspect? This has probably been touched upon earlier in interviews with known players, but I think it's a deep subject which a lot can be discussed about.

Hope you guys continue with the podcast!

First post ever~ Fkyes.
Anyway~

I lol'd, a lot, during this week's Breadcast. I think I ended up waking up my roomate, twice. The whole laid-back "We've got nothing to talk about this week" attitude was pretty damn interesting, to say the least.

Kobayashi has pretty much said the only thing I could offer. Character specific discussion. How the character plays in respect to the rest of the cast. How they're usually played, and the pros and cons of the character (To an extent, I guess.) Maybe spending an episode dedicated to maybe 2 or three characters, depending on the amount of request for the character(s).

I personally ADORE Sacchin, how she plays, how it looks when she's played, and just how adorable she is.(Lolwut?)
I just don't really play her well, given, I only have on person to practice with...and well, he's worse than me. So any insight on her would help me a lot.
I've watched people like Hare play her alot, to the point of me (Weirdly enough) being able to kinda quote her VoiceFX.
The Sacchin thread seems mad dead, and making a necro-post as my first post doesn't seem too smart.

Hope this was relevant.
The foe is weak! Finish it, Sacchin!

Ok since I'm seeing all this feedback in this thread it means people listen but don't comment where needed. Since you guys feel so strongly about this then check the weekly questions thread and you'll have a choice of what the podcast topic will before this upcoming week.

Was the podcast for this week removed?

Nevermind, I'm dumb.  Feedback later.

Okay, I forgot to feedback.  I don't see why the backlash at the casual episode.  Outside of it being a little whiney, I think it's perfectly acceptable to just sit around and bullshit every once in a while.  Maybe I'm biased, since I pop in and actually chat with you guys in preshow shit from time to time, but whatever. (if you do another no-point cast, let me in on it!)  Also I approve of Mr. T.

Anyway, don't let small amounts of comments deter you from pulling content.  There IS a lot of shit you can go over, but it's all in how deep you wanna take it.  There have been a shitload of comments and questions in the weekly questions thread that you guys have skipped over as well.  Brush back over the old posts there and hit up some of the questions, if you ever really lack anything to speak on.

If you remember, inviting people on to do character bios was another thing that was part of the initial idea for this shit, which you haven't actually delved into at all yet.  The interviews are awesome, but it's perfectly okay to step out of the personal and into the factual, asking them for hard information on their character(s) of choice.  Shit like:
-What would you say is the character's most notable strengths and weaknesses?
-What are the character's best normals/specials?
-What are the best uses of meter, and when should you use them?
-What are some good ways to mix up in pressure or get into advantageous situations?
-What do you tend to do most during the neutral game?
-What are their particularly best and worst matchups?
-What advice would you have to new players trying to pick up the character (like what shit to learn and practice most)?
-Who are the best Japanese players of this character to look up videos on?

These sorts of things can fill up all sorts of time, and be very helpful to anyone interested in the character.  It helps that bringing forth in-depth character autopsies (so to speak) are pretty in demand, as well.
