: AnFox September 03, 2010, 04:47:15 PM
I thought it would be a good idea to have questions from the community that can be answered at the beginning or end of every breadcast.

These questions can be about anything. I say this because I'm not going to answer every question, but just the ones that catch my interest the most.

So, what are ya'll waiting for?

GOGOGO!!!

If you could buff one aspect of each of your (Miz's, Fox's, Chibi's) mains, what would it be? Then nerf a aspect of a character you guys hate.

Serious question. If MBAACC arcade is the last installment and we don't get a port to a different platform, what do you predict will happen to the current USA scene? I mean, look at what the BB scene went through for so long with the CS/CT divide...

Well, there's two problems with that.

1. Chelsea doesn't have a computer.
2. Since they'll be communicating via Skype, there would probably be lag issues.

As mentioned before, this is no problem if you keep post production in mind. That mind be strange during the interview but it's the same if you hear a host talking to someone far away in the radio. It's not live but edited.

I'd be rather concerned about the engrish then.

Jiyuna and Heartnana there's no worry of engrish.  Garu we'd have to have a translator like the aforementioned two or Curbeh/YAT/Dakanya/Shin.

Or you could just have Jiyuna and Garu.  If I'm not mistaken (which I very well may be), isn't Jiyuna in Japan for translation work of some sort?  If you had Jiyuna and Garu together on the show that might not be so bad.  Jiyuna and Garu would be on the same time zone as well, since they're both in Japan.

Though if he'd be willing to do something like that,  :mystery:

But if Jiyuna would be interested in doing something like that, there's a number of people here who have Garu's contact information (including myself).  If you could setup a time and a place it probably wouldn't be hard to get him here, but it'd probably be better to wait until after Tougeki.

Q:  What do you look for when you're trying to read an opponent? What sort of mannerisms are tell-tale signs of habits you can exploit? Are there any melty specific things to look out for in a read?

Q2: What makes a good bait in melty?

Q3: What character did you want to / secretly want to play that you either sidelined or gave up on because they were too hard/weird/ass etc. ? And what made you want to play them?

Q4: What is, hand's down, your favourite move in the game.

Why people doesn't use Blood Heat mode?

Intead of using BH, they used MAX to Circuit Spark (even in Full Moon). I understand that Circuit Spark is also a good choise, but mostly the BH activation was better. (Circuit spark also pushes away opponenet so not much difference)

The suggested reading of Domination 101 was very interesting. I learned a lot about the mentally of what it takes to move up in skill. My question is, "What beginning advice would you give to someone picking up Melty (MBAA) for the first time?"

or maybe to word it better, "What is the best way (in your opinion) for a new player to transfer into the Melty scene?"

Follow up question: "Would the gaming background of the player hurt his/her progress in learning melty? And if so, in what way?"
(Ex: A MBAC player vs. a non-MBAC player (A GG player or a SF4 player for example))

Q1: When you watch vids, what are you thinking/what are you looking for?

Q2: What would you rather get in the corner for 100 meter:  4.8k-5.2K+ or 3.8k-4.2k and Oki?

Q3: When your opponent has a 'get-out-of-jail-free-card', like Seventh Heaven for certain setups, or a DP they can cancel into a safe EX on block; what do you do about it?

Q4: When you notice your game has a major problem (Can't beat a certain playstyle, getting destroyed in a certain matchup, a weakness in fundamentals, etc.) how do you go about correcting or compensating for it? Do you have any examples?

Q5: Why Melty?

Do you know if there's some Melty Blood community in other countries, or is it just restricted to USA/Japan ?

I started playing Melty Blood thanks to Tsukihime (the visual novel), as I'm not really into VS fighting to begin with. I just loved the story and the characters, so I wanted to finish every game related to them, and I was amazed to see that Melty Blood games were still updated, played in Tougeki and in the USA too. Don't you think that if Tsukihime was well known, more people would play Melty Blood ? A remake of the VN was announced in 2008. When it'll come out, and when an eventual english patch will be released, don't you think a lot more people will join the Melty Blood community ? I know we're far from it, but sometimes we have to be patient...
(sorry, it was quite a long question ! :P)

I know the episodes about the MB community have already been made, and you're into meter management, but I wanted to ask these !
: Re: Weekly Questions for BreadCast
: Rokunaya November 11, 2010, 12:25:19 PM
Yo gaiz, Rokunaya here with character specific strategy questions / general neutral questions.

I'm new, so I'm still grasping as to how handle neutral. Nanaya's neutral game against very good players seems very hard to do, and I can't tell if it's just my lack of skill or just that the matchup's ass. Honestly, alot of the matchups I face are ass, but I'd like a breakdown on how to handle alot of Nanaya's ass matchups, as well as how C/H Arcueid can close in on most opponents, since her neutral is even worse.

This question is generally a "Oh my god my character sucks at neutral versus more than half the cast, how do I handle neutral so I don't completely suck at this game anymore?"

For some examples of my ass matchups for neutral...

H-Arc vs F-Koha [236A, 2B, 5C, can't get in at all. It's F-Koha. Need I say more?]
C-Nanaya/H-Arc vs C-Koha [Tonberry says Nanaya should perform decent in neutral but I'm not feeling that]
C-Nanaya/H-Arc vs C-Mech [I realize half the cast has this same problem but go over it anyways?]
C-Nanaya/H-Arc vs F-Ciel [Okay, I feel that F-Ciel is not only dumb, she rapes both of these characters in neutral. I'd definitely love some advice here.]
C-Nanaya/H-Arc vs C/F-Nero [I played Generic a couple times, but I still feel that this can get semi hard, especially against F moon. Especially his F moon.]
H-Arc vs F-Akiha [Nanaya feels like he performs pretty well against Akiha in neutral, at least that's how it seemed when I played you, Fox. H-Arc feels alot harder imo]

...and so forth. Inb4 you guys tell me to get new mains. |:

The breadcast this week will be character discussion, and we will be going over 3-5 characters about their matchups, meter management, combos, oki, etc. The choices of chracters are:

1) Shiki Tohno
2) Arc
3) Ciel
4) Hisui
5) Wara
6) Satsuki
7) White len

Just to state, please select a moon for the character. Personally we dont want to have to go through all the styles of one character. Thats what other breadcasts are for.
Depending on the feedback, we will select the characters with the most votes. If there arent enough vote before the recording, then we will choice which characters will be discussed. Afterwards, we will then take questions from this thread and answer them. Get to posting people.  :teach:

: Re: Weekly Questions for BreadCast
: Rokunaya November 12, 2010, 09:07:43 AM
Requesting H-Arc, I feel that she has the most difficulty out of all the moons keeping momentum, especially in neutral. With no momentum and no really good pokes, as well as a 'decent' midscreen airthrow, I feel that covering how she can keep in on an opponent would be an extremely vital general thing myself and many new players can hear about.

A recent trailer has surfaced for the console release of Arcana Heart 3.  With it, a very healthy discussion has erupted regarding the game's image and how it can have an adverse effect on it's success regardless of how good the game is.  I know Master Chibi has a strong opinion on this as I have seen enthusiastic participation from him in this discussion.

What do you think about how this game will be perceived by fighting game enthusiasts?  By casual players?  By the mainstream?  Do you guys think the game's overly sexual undertones will have a real effect on the game's success?  For example, do you think its chances at being selected as a roster title for EVO2k11 are hurt by its aesthetics?  Are there any comparisons to be made between AH3 and MBAA in terms of community acceptance?

I think this could be a fun little conversation piece for the next podcast.  You can choose to just glaze over it for a little bit, or blow it up huge.  There's plenty of flexibility with how deep/shallow you can take this discussion.  Perhaps you could have someone on the show who disagrees with Chibi's viewpoint and you can have a healthy debate for the next episode.

i don't know if this has been asked already, but who knows

What is the approach for a "mainstream" player of games such as SSF4, 3rd Strike or Marvel to learn Melty from scratch? How does the "flow" of the game progress in a match?

when i saw that Juicebox Abel signed for NEC XI to play MBAA, these questions just popped out of my mind, so i'm curious on how he's going to play

1. How did each of you approach learning Melty (from whatever other fighting games you had played before)?

2. How do you go about learning a new character? Do you copy/paste other players' playstyles, or do you try to integrate your playstyle in?

3. How do you guys play match ups that you haven't prepared for/don't know at all?

4. How do you guys prep for match ups? Anything different when prepping for a disadvantageous match up?

Sorry if any are repeats. Those are all I could think up. Go~

Waiting for some kind of solid console release, until then, the scene will not be big enough to warrant its own show in my eyes. Please look at Donjon Network to see if there are any planned MB shows in the future.

When this is brought back, can you have a podcast with one of the more newer players such as Tony Shiki, 505, myself maybe or anyone like that to give a different perspective of the game & community, just something I've been thinking about for some time but always forgot to mention it.

Sure, I am not opposed to that idea at all, in fact it's a good idea. Let me know when the time comes.
