Okay, because I kinda stole the results from Nas, I guess I should do it, lest he try to do it from memory.
We got 18 people, 2 of which learned the game 10 minutes before playing. Format was Random Teams, I didn't like it that much, but Eli was a pretty good partner so I guess I can't complain too much.
Results:

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure on the numbers after 4. Because the smashers came in like, right in the start of the match, the brackets went all screwey, and we did the best we can to not fuck up the brackets too much, but the southern side of the bracket, as a result, did have like 1 extra battle more than the north side of the bracket, and thus, its hard to tell who placed what around the end.
I'm going to the beach tomorrow, so don't expect vids up until Monday night. To everyone, GG's.

my Tohno did alright... im just really sick of not having any anti air when fucking akhias and vakhias just fly around do what the hell they want... that's why i might go to nanaya for fucking aa's... or ill just watch akhia/tohno matches just to see what they do against the shit...sorry rant..

well the actual tourney started at like 9pm, while smash (singles) and ggac (singles) were still going at the same time (half the people in the mb tourney were in either smash or ggac). so we could only do either teams or singles unless we started early in which we didn't.
VR - kouma = <3 there was definitely some shenanigans going on there.
LK's partner was bad so he practically had to ocv everyone, maybe i'll learn how to play better next time :(.
nam = random bullshit (ihateyou)
tiamat - man... i don't know what happened there i was just totally outclassed :-\ maybe if i was baiken.
nas - good shit man, very few dropped combos this time around (yay for lag-free)
4r5 - always a cool guy
eli - not bad for the first miyako i ever fought
rei - you still can't compare to LK, but you'll get better. you just need to fly more lol

All experience against LK would have taught you is that no matter how much you were winning before, if you get hit once, you're fucked. Sure, you may get out of his combo alive, but a good 60% of your life bar is just gone.
And Chudat... Man, he's awesome. Like, he randomly decided to enter and dragged Azen along, and got me to teach him some basic strategies for HisuKoha, while Rei and LK were trying to find a main for Azen. Azen ended up with Arc and apparantly can do a combo up to the launcher, which, in my opinion, is kinda scary. Knowing Azen, Next month he'll beast us all.

Zar- honestly i wanted to do singles.. but it's like i ran the tourney too late(god damn random team guilty tourney took forever) plus during this time i was running teams.. i had to leave for guilty (and numerous others were still in Guilty singles and smash ) so it was really hectic.. but dog next... singles just for you ;D
chibi- come to the next sir...i don't know what is about MD/VA but we get big turnouts.. and plus i got connects boy!!

Yeah Lord Knight is the villain and yet, my teacher. I was upset that we couldn't have chosen our teams though. Cause the Kohaku player that I got, he flat out said that he was just filler :emo:

Next month, Smash shouldn't take as long, since we will be on people's asses so hard. I'm getting the permission to bringing my pimp slapping hand next month.
Still, I got Lord Knight first round... And then another VAkiha player that barely beat me during tourney and friendlies in every match. I can't believe I couldn't do any loops that day. People were seeing my set up the combo, and I was pressing C at the right time too... Whatever, no Johns. I lost, plain and simple.
I was pleased to see Nas' Nanaya, that Miyako, and a Sacchin. It was nice to see a large variety of characters.
And about Azen and Chu Dat. Azen won a set! Haha, first time he picked it up and I tried to teach him Arc's BnB within 5 minutes. LK didn't do anything since he was doing SSBM tournament AND Guilty Gear at the same time lol. The scary part is that he had half of the BnB down by the time he played. Nam was scared shitless due to how fast he learned that shit AND performed it in tournament, all up the the launcher. And the fact that he found out how to combo with the knee on his own. Man, too fcking good. Too bad Chu doesn't want to continue with Ice Climbers lol. Oh, and Nam lol, you wobbled me D:. Damn you Punching Cactus + jC Hisui + low hitting Kohaku all at the same time. Man, that's just GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

do what you want Nas I think maybe you could play both as long as it's singles. in teams you're stuck with one character so you'd have to make a decision there though. I had a lot more trouble with your tohno but that's cause Nanaya wasn't your main. things might change when you get that main power boost

Sry, got a ridiculous cold yesterday and didn't get any encoding done. I woke up at noonish, and started encoding immediately, and so expect the first batch to be ready sometime in the afternoon.

Anyway, i just want to tell you guys that the first three sets from Rei's computer is now uploaded, and waiting to be processed/approved/etc. I made sure there was no hint of Japanese this time, simply because the way I want to do things isn't worth the bitchfest that will result.
I'm going to take a break from encoding, but I plan on giving you guys another batch before tomorrow.

I learned two things from watching my vids. .
1. For some reason, a Random Ex Ladle is Super effective against Lord Knight. Possibly because it surprises all parties involved(seriously I know I put the input for Saturday night fever...)
2. I rely on the chair too much. I mean, I knew I liked using the chair, but seeing this vid has really shown me that I use the chair at a self destructive level. And now that I am aware, I want everyone to realize, and that is why I am going to go to schools across the country to spread awareness of the dangers of chair abuse.

my only comment is... i played a crappy akiha :( VR's kouma practically carried the team. i need to work on my oki's and pressures. oh yea, i'm not seen beating eli's miyako, i guess it didn't get saved. the whole tourney was messed up. some were alternating (this years SBO teams format) others weren't.

lolol, that looked so dumb. i think he used j.C and i pressed 5A (hence the counterhit), that table has a damn huge hitbox. if you look closely you'll see akiha facing left when the hit occurs then it's facing right then left again.

Looking back at the brackets, you're right. It was Mr.Mammation's partner. Crap... its so much trouble to fix, but I'll see what I can do after I encode everything else. Sorry about the mixup, I'll make a quick fix on the title of the video for now. Fun fact, the Kouma playing lost to Azen. How I mistook him for VR, I have no idea.
And to everyone else commenting on my performance, I'm going to have to play the, "I was tired, hungry and really wanted to go home," card. Plus, my only experience fighting V.Akiha was against Rei last month, and so the jump in power level between the two Vakiha's was slightly surprising. Finally, I didn't abuse the chair for the clash frames so much as the Godlike anti air properties it has. And factoring the time a Vakiha spends in the air + my lack of experience to tell me what else to do = CHAIR SPAM! Hopefully I'll play smarter next month, or all my matches will be very boring.

I say that MB is a good balance of 2d fighter tactics and smash tactics. Y'got your mind games, ground techs, sidestep dodge,and tech punishes, and you lack a block button, l canceling, and 3 broken characters that everyone uses(Now its just Sion, which, for some reason, no one uses).

I don't play Smash I just think MB is fun to play and has some fun quirks (heat system for healing etc) even though it's not as complex as GG or something.

Capcom players find it uncomfortable. Being in the air is suppose to be a death sentence.
Smash players find it to be natural. In fact, they expect it.
Guilty players welcome it. We're given many of the same air options found in Melty and Smash, but at the same time we also face the same dangers found in Capcom games.
In Melty Blood, the air is all apart of your positioning, pressure, and mixups. Being in the air is a good thing.

i think infraction = magic circuit thingy (i guess) (EDIT: nope that's not it)
i don't really have a good answer as to why smash players play MB. my guess would be the fact that both games are really easy to get into. smash is very simple at the beginner level, moving around, doing attacks, just doing anything in general is well straightforward. as for melty blood, the system is deep but not deep enough like guilty gear. combo system is easier (definitely easier than guilty gear's gatling system, reminds me of MvC). any experienced smash player (competition/casual) should feel quite at home with MB due to some of the system similarities.
i guess i'll just have to agree with 4r5 why capcom players find it uncomfortable. i've played enough capcom fighters to learn that being in the air is the worst thing you could possibly do unless you're planning something. the options melty blood gives you in the air means being in the air can feel pretty safe. in smash, you're in the air half the time trying to figure out where to land and not die (for me at least, nam's ganon loves to keep me up there). that and those jumping neutral A attacks are well pretty good. damn you short hops!

I meant Smash has Marth Shiek and Fox as the top tiers that everyone uses. I mean, I guess people are starting to use peach and falco, but for the most part, everyone is sticking to those three.

Edit: Just an FYI, becuase each of those matches in that naming error were pretty unworthy of having their own video, and the replays for every other match for each of those sets are missing anyway, I am just going to replace the name on the video, and reupload it as is. I'll also upload the last set on Rei's computer which was a match with Mr.Mammation & Rathrak Vs Nas and Tiamat. I'm 95% sure I got the right people this time, with the extra 5% being a 100% certainty that I'll find out I got them wrong directly after I upload them, forcing me into a tourrets filled rage.

i mean im sticking with tohno but god damn it's so stupid to lose to something some dumb.. .when i have to sit there and watch akhia's and vakhia's fly around in the air... what's tohno suppose to do..... like honestly.. yes 236a does work sometimes but damn...once peeps get damage i find myself having to figure out a way to chase after them... reason with nanaya... i swear he has better block strings... better aa's .. only thing is air to air combat (only ja while tohno has ja and jc..) that's my feel on the subject.. maybe i need to play human opponets more than just when i go to tourneys (the only time i see human comp) cuse i practice on my combos alot at home.. but man it's like combos are useless if i can't find a way to land them on peeps...it sucks man!!!

air throws are a good anti air for anybody as far as I can tell so you could try that more maybe...I know it sounds lame but it's an option...and you could throw them into the corner with it which is always good with shiki

Damn you, Nas. You're not angry/hype/stubborn enough to keep at it w/ Tohno. You need to lose 1,000,000 more times before you call it quits. Until then, get angry, find answers, and try new things. Check out the deathburger casuals for some ideas on how to approach US style of play. It's a US tohno but it's a Zar-Tohno making it slightly less sucky (?). =D

No, I don't agree. A lot of us are decent players in any respect. We can take advantage of other people's noobiness if we want, and it is not a measure of how scrubby we are. Just because you disagree on a tactic that obviously worked doesn't give you the authority to be a self righteous asshole. If a tactic works against your opponent, use it till it stops working, and find another.

There's only so much you can do with such a small number of players who don't practice regularly cause there's no one to fuckin play with. Most of the people who play are SOO bad that it's comical. compared to everyone else in VA/MD we are good, compared to top NY players of course not you guys actually travel for this game and some of you have it as your main focus. Then there's the problem where ummm the training mode sucks ass.

To be honest I have no one to practice with. All I have is a session in June with Chibi/Zar/Zaelar, last year's NEC, a GDT and netplay. Netplay sucked a lot so I didn't even have much from that. Most of me is from studying Japanese matchvids and seeing what's common and what's not and ideas and stuff and used them my own regards, then since in netplay I got owned for making mistakes I practiced enough to make sure that I messed up as little as possible. It isn't that hard to at least have a outline or something :( :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:

The Players who actually care about doing well in VA area = B.B.Hood, TornadoFlame, Nam, Eli, Millionz, VR, Tiamat, Rei, Nas(though technically not from VA), Reloy(when he's not bitching about how gay move x is, and then beats it shortly after), 4r5 and Miyagishin. All of these people have rose in skill level pretty substantially since my first C3 a couple months ago where it was just a single ps2 for casuals. Our community is still in its infant stages even now, and I wouldn't be surprised if in a year our community grows bigger than NY, with more skilled players.
BTW I got 2 vids encoded, and I'm about to post them. One is a LK raping Mulligan and Rei, and the other one is Team Nastia taking out Miyagishin and Millionz. Lots O mirror matches.

lol man.. i remember first mb tourney at C3, i was doing invalid j.2C combos with akiha and winning. i agree that the va/md level is bad. the only time we get together and play is at C3 and MB is pretty much a side tournament for most of us (except nam, he's the one that goes to C3 and plays MB all day)
as for casual matches i believe it goes as follows
nas = alone (i think he sometimes go down to play with eli and others)
me and nam
tiamat and vr
eli, 4r5 and mamation (a lil sketchy on this one, i don't think mamation plays MB much or even takes it seriously, this crew is mainly guilty gear)
rei = alone/ plays online
yea... i think i'm officially a stalker/troll :-\ but this is just basing what i've observed and read up on. i do try to play to educate, during casuals i let them know if they could have teched or not and try to train them on how to tech out of it. sometimes i tell them it's an unblockable move (aoko's charged beam, yes some people don't know about this) or it's a high hit.
EDIT: from nam's post. yea i try to care about winning, but it's mostly money for food (yes i'm poor and in need of money...seriously). i just play and learn from what i've seen and my mistakes, it's not like i want to be the best player in the world, i'm just a guy that likes to play and not suck at the same time. face it losing sucks. that and i play for food (C3 sucks cuz things never start on time and i'm always hungry)
i mean first time i played against LK during casuals, i couldn't get a single round off his v.akiha. as the day went out i managed to squeeze out some wins (don't know if it's fatigue or not but i learned something).
oh and zar if you want to come down to C3 and just demolish everyone in MB there, i'd actually appreciate it. i wouldn't mind getting my ass kicked and learning a thing or two.
i also realized that the casual distribution list is pretty damn useless. so uhh ignore that.

100% agree with you, i remember doing the same thing playing guilty gear with my friends. we all got murdered at one random tournament and we all decided to level up. getting better takes time, i guess you'll just have to be patient until the VA/MD MB scene gets better. in all honesty, i think majority of the VA/MD scene has never touched melty blood prior to the release of the PS2 version (if i'm wrong then i'm very very very sorry). so yea... we suck. lol

Okay, I feel that everyone involved is missing the whole point of the argument.
The argument started because VR was fighting a guy who probably found out the fee was 2 dollars and entered without knowing at all how to play. We had 5-6 people who did that. Remember? VR took advantage of that fact, and invalid looped him.
Let me ask you. Who is the one who sucks in the video? The guy who can't tech, or the guy who took advantage of that fact? And then, you have to ask another question. Why are you basing the whole VA community on that one player who shouldn't have been in the tournament at all?

It would be good for GG+MB players to keep this in mind or you will eat invalid combos in both games but for opposite reasons lol.

In GG, all three tech-directions are the same "speed". The only difference is when they occur. The neutral-tech point happens after the front/back-tech points.
In MB, shrug. I think the amount of recovery from the different ground-techs are all the same. The only thing diffrent is how much bouncing you do, which changes when the recover happens (and of course, where you are). Neutral-ground-tech, you just bounce in place, and start recovering. The two side techs, you have to bounce all the way over, then start your recovery. And that gives them more time to set something up, but the trade off is that you may not be where they expect you to be. /shrug

I'm trying this out in practice mode and all the air-tech points look to occur at the same time. I think people's problems with teching out of Nero's j.C is the same problem with people teching out of my Johnny 'combos', really, really tight tech window. MASH THAT SHIT

yeah mash on a button but don't press any directions. make sure that when you see yourself flash (tech animation) you stop mashing quickly and start air blocking or you will get hit by the jC anyway. Warachia is the same way with his jC air combo

Yeah, the Vid is going to take longer than projected. Someone *coughreicough* took off timer, and no timer + turtling + 3 rounds each = long ass matches. The timer somehow reset itself by the time anyone bothered telling me about it, and it was around 11 o clock at the time and no one really cared enough to redo the matches, for good reason. Gimme another hour, and it will be done.

Next tournament we need to go hard on options, and making sure people save replays, and making sure people are following whatever format we and up doing, and people entering mid-tournament. I'll volunteer, assuming I'm not in the middle of a different tournament..

That match was actually pretty early in the tournament and somehow we didn't notice that it was on infinite time until the matches had already started. We switched it after that match. So basically besides the infinite time problem earlier in the tournament we also had some teams not alternating cause they weren't told/didn't hear or something.

Anyway, I guess this tourney inadvertently is forcing us to level up or whither down to obscurity, due to the discussion and trashtalk that ensued afterward. All my matches against LK were pretty close. I always won(or maybe the its "was given") a round in all my matches with him, and I know that all I need is to brush up on basics, and work on some new tactics.

Okay, seriously, I goofed. I needed a warachia vs V.Akiha match to finish the set, I remembered that there was one replay fairly late in the tourney where we took a replay from the Recent fights folder, and it was V.Akiha vs Warachia. So, seeing that A Warachia vs V.Akiha was needed and a Warachia vs V.Akiha was found, I put two and two together, and thought I got a 4, but it turns out now I got a 6 or something. I'll fix it tomorrow, and post up the Finals.

Yeah, It was midnight, my execution was completely down the drain at that point. I was also trying new things, that probably got me closer to victory because of it, but I know I missed a very very nice dust loop setup because I thought he was going to block, so I whiff canceled it. I don't know what Eli's excuse is. And man, the last match... I don't know what to say. I took a gamble in the second round, and luck/my execution wasn't shining on me that day. She had enough health for me to have delusions that all I needed was that landed combo off the Saturday night fever for the win. Then that mistake with the dust that cost me the game. :'( If you couldn't tell, I was really really really ready to go home.
Edit: Y'know what, upon rewatch, I can honestly say I was completely retarded by the third round of the last match. Like, I can see that I was playing solely by reflexes on the first round, but by the third round I was just like, "Whats a Melty Blood? Why is that maid fighting? This is such a loli game."

And yes I'll admit I fell under the failure catergory that weekend, but you have good days and you have bad days. And like I already said, that was a bad day. Whereas for everyone else the level of play seemed just as "high" as ever, with the exception of Nas, he was also playing like shit.

I fucked up as well. I got dead last, from getting the villain first round and then fucking up my 2nd round. I also got randomly given some random guy who told me he wasn't good. We shouldn't do teams unless we can choose em.
