Many thanks to all the people who donated a PC setup, and big thanks to Arly for spending large amounts of money on buying autio mixing and video recording equipment. The footage looks pretty good and the autio is mixed very well. Special thanks to the people who helped run the tournament brackets and to our commentators: Arlieth, Mason, Magz, and Sanchez.

Congrats to Arly for taking it!  Congrats to Veteru for showing he's not all theory with 2nd.  Congrats to Leo for taking 3rd.  Congrats to WC for taking like 3/4ths of top 8!

Edit:  East Coast had no presence in top 10 apparently.  Tokido entered tournament but backed out last minute due to other engagements.

[hdp: Dunno why the fuck Google Video doesn't have my title or desc so I'm being passive aggressive about it and letting everyone know so it will be guilted into fixing itself.]

Sakura committed suicide because I intentionally skipped saving the replays in finals. :V Also, that shit had more parries than a 3rd Strike match.

Cumulative score of me vs. Vet is 4-1.

Various other MM news

Choco beat Leo like 10-4?
Choco beat Hdphnz score unknown
Leo beat Zaelar 3-0

Numakie beat Chibi 5-1

Veteru has NOT MM'ed ANYONE.

The EC vs WC vs AZ doesn't look like it's going to happen.  Apparently no MB events will be happening today in deference to Vampire Saviour.

You need to look a little harder at how I play Nero. As much as we joke about j.C, it's really the summons that kill people- even if they don't get hit by them. Think about that.

Yes, it was a lot of fun.  I'm glad Lolisauce got me to go despite being the shy little prick I am.  I really enjoyed meeting all of you in person, and I learned a lot about Warakia (Wallachia, whatever) and just playing MB in general.  Reading about it is one thing, but experiencing it with unique play styles was another.  Casuals was a great way to learn who you guys are.

I just wish I was sure I'd have a ride home, then I definitely would have stayed and watched the whole tourney play out.  You guys kick ass (omg Vet raped me so hard that I couldn't sit down for 20 min afterwards - it was a very deep learning experience...  leik ASS DEEP :V)  Thanks for popping my tournament cherry.  SO HAWT.

You know I'm gonna be practicing for damn sure after all that.

I only have the pools.  Someone else has the top 16 bracket.

Since I have the pools, I can list the people that qualified out of them.  45 entrees divided into 4 pools.  People from the same state/area were seperated as best they could, but considering almost half the tournament was from Cali there were some overlappings there.  After pool division it was random.  Due to the number of people about half the entrees got a bye which led to some confusion.

Pool1
Winners: Leo, Zaelar
Losers: Alt, and whoever won between Alex G. and KenmastersX.  Its not filled in on this one.
Pool2
Winners: Veteru, Psylocke
Losers: Chaotic Blue, Numakie
Pool3
Winners: Arlieth, Scott
Losers: Choco, JuniorSantos
Pool4
Winners: Master Chibi, Fubarduck
Losers: Wicked Element, Magz

As far as money matches go...
I lost 5-1 in my MM against Arlieth.
I lost 3-0 against Leo.
I won 3-0 against Jaxx.

I forget how my others went.

Edit: http://www.meltybread.com/replays/UnsortedEvoReplays.zip

All the evo replays I have, unsorted.  Figured its better than nothing until they all get sorted out.

I really shouldn't have agreed to that, I was in a horrible state of mind after the tournament, so at that point it was free money for you (that, and my controller was done and I had to play you on stick, more sadness).

But bro, do you even practice? Seriously, you were like ALL over the damn place playing her, I couldn't get a read on you at all. You were doing shit like full screen super j.C god knows how many times, shit like j.C, j.C, j.B.B. midscreen as an air combo, wake up 2.A when there's a chair RIGHT INFRONT OF YOU IN THE CORNER, keeping me grounded like once in the corner and putting chair or bento out (and not doing that when you got a throw off me elsewhere) and then never doing it again, not throwing out something to lessen recovery after air throw, and so on and so forth. Shit made my head hurt guy (like I have any right to say this after losing to you).

Refine your shit and start raping. Stop doing that BnB of yours as well, it's only useful if you use 5.C before the actual air combo (like to tech punish after air throw).

Take it as hate, but Zaelar said you were almost as good as me, and I took that as an insult. Shit was like a wake up call, I want to be the best fucking Hisui in the US so next time we meet we'll run that shit back.

Here's some more hate for you guys:

- WTF at Jaxx losing to WickedElement.
- HUGE WTF at Leo losing to Choco.
- GOD DAMN WTF at Q-Chu and Choco winning team tourney.
- MFWTF at the amount of V. Akiha's.
- WOWWTF at Dippy actually taking MB serious and not being angry when he lost in singles, but just sad.
- ISUCKWTF at me destroying my controller, doing shitty mix ups, and thinking 2aa xx ANYTHING would get anywhere (I honestly don't know what I was thinking).
- YEAHISAIDITWTF at still putting EC's top 3 above all of WC for any amount of money, easy.

;p

Well I was going to vent one way or another, and that was it really. The guy still got my money, so he wins in the end, and more then anything it makes me hype to get better and figure out the mirror match (one I never get here on EC) so I guess I'll have a repeat come C3 with Nam.

 :teach:

I was doing waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better in casuals against everyone else though, but come tourney time my brain packed up and called it a day. I still learned ALOT from playing all the different match ups and playstyles though (as did Zaelar) so we both took it back to the 'lab' with us.

: Re: EVO WORLD (Saturday) - MBAC SINGLES Results

yes it was wtf, I've pretty much seen Leo and Arly above everyone else on WC, and then Choco goes and takes Leo's money ;p. It looks like he stepped his game up and / or figured out Leo's as well.

And Q-chu won thanks to the STORM-INESS of Red Arc.

XD
: Re: EVO WORLD (Saturday) - MBAC SINGLES Results
: Mailorder August 28, 2007, 07:39:22 AM
Choco is serious business with Satsuki.  I can't explain why he's done horribly in past West Toasts and does well at Evo.  I personally think it's because he was nervous at West Toast because it was a tournament atmosphere, and AZ felt like a pack of strangers among SoCal.  You know, the whole mindset of being the Away Team.  But at Evo World, everyone's from somewhere else, so the atmosphere is more relaxed and casual.  No one's a stranger.

Choco's made lot of excuses about his performance at past West Toasts... stuff like being tired, or something about monitor lag screwing him up.  I think it's a load of BS when he says this stuff (and he should stop, because it certainly isn't getting him any more respect when he complains) - I think he's just got the jitters when he's in SoCal.  Either way, even after all the lame excuses... he's a good guy, and I'll stand up for his Satsuki anyday.

You're gonna have to define STORM-INESS regarding Q-Chu : p  I personally think Q-Chu may have won because no one in the U.S. plays a serious Red Arc, so no one was prepared for fighting aerial blood rings.  I know that when Q-Chu first started doing that in AZ, he probably became AZ's 2nd best over a weekend.  People didn't know how to stop those blood rings.  He started going 50/50 with Choco.  I managed to hold a strong 50/50 with Q-Chu since Mech-HISUI's jetpacks can combat blood rings, but Q-Chu's record vs. Choco is a lot more impressive than mine.  So yeah.
: Re: EVO WORLD (Saturday) - MBAC SINGLES Results
: Choco August 28, 2007, 07:54:02 AM
Mailorder, I don't like how you call my reasons excuses. Not every fighting game player can justify things by saying they were beat by better players. I got sleep before my money matches, thus I was able to stay very focused. I whine about TV lag because it is INFURIATING to do a j.C that hits, try to follow up with a ground attack, and just stand there because I pressed the button one frame too early.

Another point, though (which is why I never say that I SHOULD have won a matchup that I lost), is that my opponents have to put up with the same thing I do. This is something I mention all the time, in fact. Something you've heard me mention all the time. I'm a bit disappointed, Mailorder, because there's a clear difference between making excuses and presenting an explanation, and your "no johns" attitude brings me down.
: Re: EVO WORLD (Saturday) - MBAC SINGLES Results
: F9|Chibi August 28, 2007, 07:55:46 AM
Basically he super jumps up, does 214B blood ring, and then gets an option to do another ring or whatever the shit he wants to do afterwards. He was running that shit all day. I got frustrated playing him on Friday, but instead of trying to chase him down I just set up shit and started throwing pot books and eventually it got to him, but it was a crazy test of my patience. Red Arc is built for rushdown and zoning, but to see someone play her with a keepaway mindset was something new I had to adjust to.

;3
: Re: EVO WORLD (Saturday) - MBAC SINGLES Results
: COD3player August 28, 2007, 10:02:36 AM
Yeah the whole super jump blood ring was a bit frustrating to deal with at first, but then I remembered, I have 236C which is a full screen attack. Doesn't get all the hits for full damage but it at least serves as a deterrent late in the round so it didn't seem all that bad in the end.

-Got thrown to Losers by HF Blade. :-X
The revenge! >:D

You're gonna have to define STORM-INESS regarding Q-Chu :p
I think he's comparing his playstyle to Storm of MvC2. ie stay really high in the air where the opponent can't reach you and abuse a move.

Sorry for not following up on the MMs guys. After the tourney, I felt that I wasn't in MM condition. :(

Guess ill defend myself then.

But bro, do you even practice?

yes -,-

Seriously, you were like ALL over the damn place playing her, I couldn't get a read on you at all. You were doing shit like full screen super j.C god knows how many times, shit like j.C, j.C, j.B.B. midscreen as an air combo, wake up 2.A when there's a chair RIGHT INFRONT OF YOU IN THE CORNER, keeping me grounded like once in the corner and putting chair or bento out (and not doing that when you got a throw off me elsewhere) and then never doing it again, not throwing out something to lessen recovery after air throw, and so on and so forth.

I do have to agree that my Hisui play is rather ... eratic. However, there are other things that i try to take full advantage.  One thing is her speed.  This little maid can move around the screen surprisingly fast and has little recovery when landing on the ground with most of her moves.  She also has alot of spacing tools which i use to keep my opponent in check (thus the table).  She is also an exceptional tech punisher when in the right hands.

Looking at specifics in the match  I caught with a shield several times trying to poke me after a wake up.. I even out threw you a few times before your bento exploded against a bento setup.  When you caught me several times in the air with a shield/throw, i eventually got smarter and out threw you a few times.  As for my 2bb's in combos, sometimes i am able to catch  another invalid air juggle if i am fast enough, or if i just need some space between us (IE safe heat activation).
I am quite aware of all of Hisui's setups and tools, being a Hisui player myself.  That's what makes mirror matches rather scary. Its all about who can outsmart the other.

Refine your shit and start raping. Stop doing that BnB of yours as well, it's only useful if you use 5.C before the actual air combo (like to tech punish after air throw).

I perfer that BnB of mine because it works well on almost all characters and i can get it off like 90 percent of the time. There is also room for error. =P

Take it as hate, but Zaelar said you were almost as good as me, and I took that as an insult. Shit was like a wake up call, I want to be the best fucking Hisui in the US so next time we meet we'll run that shit back.

I actually take that as a compliment.
In any case, ill be more then happy to take you on again next time we meet.  :)

: Mailorder August 28, 2007, 10:46:52 AM

If you're tired, it's your own fault you didn't get sleep.  Find something that keeps you wired, or like.. get sleep.  Yes, I heard EVERYONE was tired at Evo.  If that's the case, then everyone's at equal level since EVERYONE is tired.

Uhh.. it seems that we're on the same page regarding TV lag.  Your opponent is playing under the same conditions.

I have no intention of bringing you down.  If anything, I'm extremely hyped and happy for your success at Evo.  Maybe it's just your tone when you explain your losses.  It feels like you don't give your opponent any credit - as if you have decided that you are definitely better than them, and that you were SUPPOSED to win.  You've just explained that you're not suggesting that, but I guess that's not how it's coming off to me.  How about this.. if you've got a valid explanation as to why you lost, you need to find a better way to present it.  There is a correct and professional way to file a complaint.  (in my opinion. yeah.)  The way you do it now, it feels almost disrespectful to your opponents.  I have no problem with explanations, just excuses.  And yes, it does seem that I have a different definition for excuse/explanation than other people.

And don't feel like I'm only picking on you.  When Arlieth gave his "explanation" for the results of MBAC SBO Teams, I told him he was giving me a BS excuse.  "Team Captains were tired".  He made it seem like Arizona wasn't supposed to win.  Perhaps he wasn't trying to come off that way, but they way he phrased it... it felt like Arizona only won because California was tired.  However, Arlieth did mention something to me which I felt was a valid explanation to Arizona victory, which I've got no problem with.  And I'll explain that in my response to Master Chibi.

I'm not going out of my way to harass any single person or choose sides.. because I don't.

You're gonna have to define STORM-INESS regarding Q-Chu :p
I think he's comparing his playstyle to Storm of MvC2. ie stay really high in the air where the opponent can't reach you and abuse a move.

Gotcha : p

Basically he super jumps up, does 214B blood ring, and then gets an option to do another ring or whatever the shit he wants to do afterwards. He was running that shit all day. I got frustrated playing him on Friday, but instead of trying to chase him down I just set up shit and started throwing pot books and eventually it got to him, but it was a crazy test of my patience. Red Arc is built for rushdown and zoning, but to see someone play her with a keepaway mindset was something new I had to adjust to.

;3

Arlieth mentioned SBO Teams was single match.  Which is why Q-Chu did well.  People didn't have time to adjust to blood ring madness and they lost.  Perhaps if it was something like First to ______, Q-Chu may have lost.  If Q-Chu didn't do so hot in Singles, and according to Dipstick... lost to Kenmasters who sucks balls at MB/doesn't play MB, then I'm led to believe this is the case.  But either way, I'm still gonna give my props to Q-Chu.  He's come a long way.

SHOCK AND AWE

----------

I'm cool with "explanations" of why who-beat-who.  I just don't want to hear "excuses" like... people were tired.  You don't hear that excuse in professional sports.  Yeah, that team because they were tired.  Exactly.  If you're tired, get some sleep.  Or improve your personal health so you don't get fatigued as quickly.  Even Fatal1ty of Doom fame mentioned that he exercises in order to survive playing hours of FPS each day.

@2:48
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q275Qh4ESao

Of course, then comes the debate of whether "professional gaming" should be taken seriously.. but that sort of argument should be reserved for another thread.

After all I've said, I wasn't at Evo.  Take what I say lightly, but give it consideration.
: Re: EVO WORLD MBAC SINGLES Results (Videos Coming Soon)

I WAS TIRED

...is a valid excuse. because i was FUCKING TIRED and FAMISHED. And if i lost because of it, than i'll take it as such. Next day, i ignored the "no food" rule and snuck in some food. Not everyone takes this as a professional sport, and i honestly dont give a shit what FaTaLiTy says about professional gaming.

seriously, EVERYONE WAS TIRED. GG tourney manager fucking slept in the middle of the floor from exhaustion.
: Re: EVO WORLD MBAC SINGLES Results (Videos Coming Soon)
: Mailorder August 28, 2007, 11:10:59 AM
It's cool if some people aren't playing to win.  Some people play just to have fun.  And that's fine!  In the end, it's just a video game.  But if you're one of those people, just don't complain if you lose.  You take the game less seriously than others, so you should expect not to win.

And just so everyone knows, I consider myself someone who plays for fun.  Of course, I like winning.  But if I lose, I give that person their respect for beating me in either mind games and/or technical skill.  I won't try to justify my loss.  They were better than me, because they took the game more seriously and practiced more - whether it's in training mode, or having the physical and mental stamina in keeping their mind games fresh.

How about this: Being tired is valid excuse.  But it still means you lost.  Don't discredit the winners - the winners had more stamina, and that's a valid victory.  Scott, looks like you're cool with this.  I just hope other people agree.
: Re: EVO WORLD MBAC SINGLES Results (Videos Coming Soon)
: F9|Chibi August 28, 2007, 11:13:49 AM
Numakis shoulda just said "yes" and just stopped.

Yeah he should have.

I do have to agree that my Hisui play is rather ... eratic. However, there are other things that i try to take full advantage.  One thing is her speed.  This little maid can move around the screen surprisingly fast and has little recovery when landing on the ground with most of her moves.

Bro, that doesn't mean anything when you're wizzing around the screen like a madman. Also 'little recovery when landing on the ground for most of her moves' sounds like a cop-out way to feign knowledge on frame data for Hisui. You didn't throw out a normal once after any airthrow you did, so that defeats your statement right there.

She also has alot of spacing tools which i use to keep my opponent in check (thus the table).

That doesn't explain anything, especially given the way you were just going bonkers. I used a spacing tool to keep you in the corner (the chair), but you just completely disregarded it and woke up with 2.A anyway. Luckily for you that shit didn't clash with the chair, and I had to pay for it, so I had to go back to training mode and figure out why. Still, common sense would dictate not to fucking throw anything out when THIS CHAIR is right there in front of you.

She is also an exceptional tech punisher when in the right hands.

Yeah, but the entire time I watched you playing you almost never tech punished. Keeping an opponent in the corner with a fear of tech punishing after the air combo with Hisui is a far better option then much anything else.

Looking at specifics in the match  I caught with a shield several times trying to poke me after a wake up.. I even out threw you a few times before your bento exploded against a bento setup.  When you caught me several times in the air with a shield/throw, i eventually got smarter and out threw you a few times.

You 'outhrew' me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?

As for my 2bb's in combos, sometimes i am able to catch  another invalid air juggle if i am fast enough, or if i just need some space between us (IE safe heat activation).

An invalid air juggle is invalid for a reason. Stop using j.BB in an air combo unless it's in the corner to set up for tech punishes. You're far better off getting an air throw with higher damage from her regular BnB and playing on your opponent's tendencies to tech then that shit you were doing.

I am quite aware of all of Hisui's setups and tools, being a Hisui player myself.  That's what makes mirror matches rather scary. Its all about who can outsmart the other.

You didn't outsmart me, I was too stupid from being mad. And if you're aware of all the tools, then use them correctly and stop making up shit to use whatever the hell you're doing right now.

I perfer that BnB of mine because it works well on almost all characters and i can get it off like 90 percent of the time. There is also room for error. =P

My BnB is 100% universal, can be altered for distance, and doesn't get a RB penality by going from 6C to 2B. The only reason you should be using that is if you've already used your 5C at the start of a combo (ie as a tech punish from a previous mid screen BnB). Start practicing it. I'm serious. Get her corner shit down too, and her tech punishes.

I actually take that as a compliment.

Well I'm not out to make enemies, but it's insulting to sit here and do all the 'good shit' with Hisui, only to have someone feed me lines otherwise.

God damn I want to be a fucking beast now, I dont' want anyone else in the US with a better Hisui then mine, fuck this. I have to thank you for that wake up call.

@ Mailorder:

Fuck that. Being tired is not a valid excuse. I was probably the oldest MB player there and I had just as much energy as the people there 8 years younger then me. If you're hungry (FOR MB, NOT FOR HOT POCKETS), get some sleep, eat some food, and fucking go for it. Winning is fun. Play for fun by winning.

I'm not even going to bother doing shoutouts because you all suck, except for the people that don't suck -- and they already know it.

Although without the help of Choco, LoliSauce, and Arlieth, I wouldn't have been able to go in the first place -- but I can't be caught expressing my gratitude to them in public. Have an image to maintain, and all that

jaime is a good player, i dont know why everyone in EC says she sucks and doesnt even play much. it woulda been one of my interview questions if i found her.

Because she doesn't enter most of the MB tournaments and the one she does enter she hasn't done very well.

Also lolololololol at everyone there thinking I was going to make top 8 and then being surprised that I didn't when I don't make top 8 at EC tournaments. Then again, anyone good on the EC wasn't there either...

Also lolololololol at Chibi lecturing Numakie on how to play Hisui. That's high comedy.

I'm not picking sides, but keeping a cool head is part of the game.  If someone's managed to break your concentration, then that's all part of the mind games.

It's like how you don't use mind games vs. someone who doesn't have mind games.  Being able to change your playstyle down to a less-than-graceful playstyle in order to beat a different kind of opponent makes you a better player.  Shoot, didn't you just say you managed to adjust to Q-Chu's playstyle?  And if Q-Chu couldn't re-adjust to what you did, then you're the better player.  Next time you meet Numakie, prove you're the better player by being able to adjust.

Yes it is. I actually think getting angry is BETTER, but only if you can control it. Zar playing when he's angry scares the fuck out of me. Huge amount of thanks to you Tom, this would have been quite an ugly to task to perform without you guys. You've got to be the best contribution to the MB community since it's birth, god bless.

Also, I'm hugely envious of your scene out there. We have just as many players here (in NYC at least) but the number of people who actually bother to take the game SERIOUSLY are relatively low, especially in comparison to your community.

How am I being high and mighty?  I'm aware that I'm not at any skill level to beat the top players.

If you want any more humility out of me, I'll be glad to give it.  You, Leo, Magz, Scott, Linalys, Zaido, Numakie, Alt, Lain, Zar, XAQ, Dipstick and Master Chibi could probably destroy me right now.  I'll be the first to admit I need a lot of work in Melty Blood.  If anything, I've been saying that I'm glad I didn't go to Evo, because then AZ probably wouldn't have won SBO Teams.

If you're saying the high-and-mighty attitude comes from me trying to lecture people in keeping cool or fighting game philosophy... then I have no idea what to say.  It's not my intention.   Just as I'm sure it wasn't your intention to make it sound like AZ won SBO Teams because California was tired.  You can ask anyone in AZ - I've lost my cool before, too.  We're only human, we all have.  But we should always strive on improving - turning that unbridled anger into calm and calculated fury.  (yes, I used big words to sound cool here)  Just tell me straight up what you don't like about me and I'll STFU... or at least I'll tone it down.

And I'm being serious.  I'm not an egotistical person.  But I am direct.

Thing is, my lecturing had nothing to do with theory fighting.  I didn't criticize anyone about game specifics.  Do I need to have experience in Melty Blood in order to make a comment about whether someone can say being tired is an excuse or not?  Either way, I'll end it here.  Who's right or wrong doesn't matter - when people aren't in good moods, nobody listens.

You know what's funny, is people who DIDN'T show up are talking shit. You people who didn't show up need to shut up. No one got sleep, because it was so fuckin' god damn hype man, if you came you wouldn't get any sleep too. Fuck I didn't get a chance because I was getting in pools, practice, MM's, and other shit in for my games. So yes, sleep is a fuckin valid excuse, especially at such a big tournament, in a place where you can do other things than just games. If you've never been to such a big place for fighting games, and especially meeting people then you will NOT understand. There is no way to replicate it. I spent atleast 60% of my time meeting the cool people from online, and 39% of the time doing shit for games and 1% of the time sleeping. Ask around no one got sleep, except for Chibi, because he's a loser =P. Tom and I only got maybe 3 hours max of sleep some days and some days none. You just had to be there, and if you weren't there, don't fuckin talk shit about excuses.

That's a lie, I spent 15 minutes looking for the guy and asking around for him.

Just wanted to give some input while I watched these vids. Remarkable playing. Just amazing. I'll put in more as the day continues.

Magz vs. Psylocke

Magz:
- Damn, you've come a long way. A long, long way. Definitely stick with V. Akiha if you can pull this shit off consistently. You've stopped doing just IAD j.C and you have some really great mixups. Solid, solid, corner traps and loop. I'm proud of you man. I remember beating you for free just a few months back. Your V. Akiha has definitely made great progress.
- Try using more empty j.C on the wakeup crossups. You were eating shield a lot and if Psy wasn't trying to be pro with charged 5b, you might have actually ended up losing some rounds.
- You were getting airthrown a LOT. Try backdashing your SJ more because Psy was just sitting on it. I would have liked to see more aerial flametongue mobility, but you did well enough without it.
- I noticed there were some execution problems in the later rounds. A lot of missed TK Flame Pit and some pretty retarded 236 nonsense that makes Satoken cry. Bad Magz. Bad.
- I dont know how effective it might be, but some 6c mixup could be put into consideration.

Psylocke:
- Best Akiha in US. I said it. No one touches you on consistency and setups. No one controls air space like your Akiha does and nobody makes me more afraid of corner rape then that j.2c of yours. I heard from some EC peeps that Zar would beat you but I'm not going to bite. You've been playing Akiha since day one and it shows.
- Watch those throw setups buddy. I know its your bread and butter but sometimes, you gotta stop rushing in and getting out-poked.
- Bait that force heat more. I know you like that floating j.2c oki setups but you'll eat heat everytime you do that. Magz was just forcing out of your corner traps because you relied on that nasty oki-setup too much.
- I know its hard to block V.Akiha in the corner but by the end, you were just getting smoked. What happened to the shield? The airthrow? You were owning Magz for free in the beginning with that those. Don't lose confidence. You know that j.a or that j.c is coming. You know he's going to IAD after that blocked j.a. Kill him for it.

Alt vs. Scott

Alt:
- Ugh...watching your Warakia makes me remember all the crap I had to put up with. Punish every mistake, every blockstring, every whiff...yah, you still do the thing you do. Your switching to Kouma anyway, but I'll rag on your Warakia regardless.
- Knockdown 2c into Nero summon. Not 2c5c into Nero summon. I know you like that forward tech into 623c trick, but I'm telling you, Nero summon after sweep is where's it at.
- You like those random Nanaya and Akiha summons don't you? I don't even know how to critique em since they worked. But you have to tell me sometimes what you think when you summon for fun.
- GG Warakia. GO GO KOUMA!

Scott:
- Pumpkin Ciel...WHHHHYYY???
- You have to play tight against Warakia and against Alt in particular. I think you were getting a bit impatient and I feel you. But sometimes, just back off a bit from the Ciel rushdown. Alt was sitting on that dash of yours and was just hitting j.c after every 2a or 2b poke you were throwing. I would actually try dashing in with 4c with Ciel since that has some decent AA properties. At worst you might exchange hits but that's better then eating a full combo everytime. Plus, you know better than to dash in with 623b.
- I know you like that flashy 22b into 214c aircombo ender (you whiffed it a couple of times I think), but really, stick with airthrow. You were killing me in casuals with it since you are really good at oki.
- You were going for the shield way too much by the second match and I kinda think you knew it wasn't going to work half the time. Also, instead of 2c after 5a CH, I would go for charged 5c. You'll get more damage off it.
- Stay patient! Rushing in is playing right into Alt's hands. Zone a bit more with knives if you have to and make him eat EX Hiero during random shadow summon.

Leo vs. Veteru
(LEO!! YOU HAD IT! OTG LOOP IN THE CORNER FTW! T.T)

Leo:
- Well, with all the WC Satsukis, someone has to be the best right? Good, good shit. Since you played it so close, its hard to say what advice I could give which might have tipped anything in your favor. Seriously, good playing.
- I noticed 2c countering was killing you early on. Veteru was IADing your 2c early on. Plus 2c while Nanaya is landing is just suicide. Veteru was just waiting for it so he could DJ and j.c punish. You switched it to 5a which really worked very well. My only advice is try to nail those 5a CH combos. I noticed you were just slamming 5a instead of fishing for the CH into loop. Its picking at hairs, but see what you can get out of it.
- You like that IAD j.c a lot, but when you IAD cancel your 214a, try going into empty j.c. I noticed you didn't try that at all during your match, but it really is a good dimension in Satsuki's game. It can lead to a lot of bite or throw setups at the very worst.
- Veteru was backdashing your midscreen crossups all the time. I would have just tried the normal SJ into meaty 2c setups to see if that would have worked.
- I almost cried when you tried to 236c Veteru after his Heat at the end of the second match. YOU KNEW THAT WASN'T GOING TO WORK! YOU KNEW IT! Plus you missed the OTG corner combo in the end. Just throw that 2c out! Seriously though, those are decisions anyone might try to make at the end of a very tight game. Its hard for me to rag you too hard for it.

Veteru:
- Veteru...the man...the theory...the IRC legend. You have definitely silenced many critics. Excellent gameplay and solid, solid execution. You didn't whiff anything and you knew what you were out there to do. You know this game in a way few people do or even tried to do. GG!
- If there's any aspect of the game that I think you need work on, its the tech traps. You probably like the sure thing damage more, but I notice a lot of Nanaya players try to go for the OTG combos after knockdown to fish for a bounce. Especially in corner. I like those 623c combos as much as anyone, and its really up to you, but I think I would toss a random OTG setup just for fun and see what happens.
- Watch more of Gao! His blockstring don't require him to dash forward :)
- Keep on rushing it down.

Post more in a bit.

I found the commentary very low grade.

Maybe next time you should get someone who actually knows the story behind the game to give the commentary.

Night guy from capes?
Resident evil arm?
Lazy stage design with one rock?

Obviously the commentator doesn't know the significance of some stuff. Really spoiled my experience watching the video, sadly.

Other than that, very nice gameplay. Will prolly rewatch it some time soon (without sound).

Melty Blood is a fighting game. This was a tournament. This isn't game director's commentary, so why does the story have ANYTHING to do with the commentary? It was entertaining because NotSanchez was absolutely hilarious in his lack of knowledge. If you prefer deep commentary instead of funny play-by-play, then I've got nothin' for you.

I agree with Choco and Devereaux- it was hilarious because it had NOTHING to do with Melty Blood. We're past the fanboyish obsession with accuracy here. What does a tournament have to do with the official story anyhow?

I don't think he was talking about story, so much as he was talking about the reality of what's going on in the match. Someone detailing the nuances of a match up as its happening (and further expanding upon it) will do wonders for people interested in the game versus shits and giggles. It's better to have a mix of both, then to be all comedic really, at least in my humble opinion.

But, he did every once in a while say something technical. The only thing I can remember off the top of my head(which can very well be my only example of this case) where it was magz vs psylocke and he explained the defense rating gap between Vakiha and Akiha. Not exactly commentating on good strategies that were going on, but still a good tidbit of information that was not funny at all.

The magz v. psylocke match was commentated on by Arlieth. The later matches were commentated on by Sanchez.

I actually enjoyed the commentary a great deal. But Chibi makes a good point. Probably only the experienced players will enjoy the commentary because they already know whats going on. The newer players won't appreciate the humor because they're just as confused. But regardless, highly entertaining commentary.

i'm taking the opposite side of lain's thinking, that the new players would enjoy the commentary more than experienced players because they're watching the video with the same line of thinking and lack of intricate knowledge.

Sorry, i think talking on the details of gameplay belongs more on an FAQ or guide, not at a live event. I've always stood by the notion that a commentator's job is to ENTERTAIN AS WELL AS give a good balance of gameplay. You'll never hear Rockefeller talk about 12 frame startup, or little nuances of the match because its simply not entertaining. I BELIEVE- MB needs everything it can get to stay viable in the US. that goes for entertainment factor, which makes it sellable to The Cannons for possible next year's Evo, and to anyone in the US watching the video that wants to pick up the game.

Evo West 3s matches were much more interesting than Evo World. I wonder why.

This is assuming that newer players want to hear a commentator call out 1-9/A-C remarks in the first place. To break it down I would have to say, focusing on the impact/reaction factor of this video on potential new players, (seeing as that is the focal point of this small disagreement) I think that this particular video would be accepted more by newer fans than many other videos in the same vein with serious commentary.

The main reason I think this way is the fact that many potential new players tune out the precise commentary of these types of vids, as without hands on experience the commentary feels distant and foreign. I also thought Sanchez did a great job in explaining beginner details (sometimes having them explained to him as well :V) that often get left out. To sum it up, the complaint is that the commentary will deter potential new fans. I find this to be a moot point seeing that most commentary done up until this video was obviously directed tworads seasoned players of the game.

Anyways, I'm of the belief that a good community draws in new blood better than the focal point of that community itself. Melty Blood is just a game, but Melty Bread is something else entirely...

You guys should listen to 3s or Marvel ranbat commentary some time. I know it made me want to start taking fighting games seriously.

EDIT: Plus, who wants to listen to some jackass yell "JUMP C!! JUMP C!!" all the time?

who the hell wants to hear oh 2b6c856723b jc jc jc jc jc jc jcjcjcjcjcjc

its much better hearing BIOHAZARDBIOHAZARDBIOHAZARD or Rockefeller not even talking about 3s half the time he does his commentary.
you already know whats going on. why need to hear it in some fancy techinical name?

Anybody who can complain about Sanchez's commentary has no sense of humor whatsoever. You're watching a fucking video game for christ's sake - have a little fun.

You have choice between BIOHAZARD BIOHAZARD BIOHAZAAAAAAAAARD. Or j.c j.c j.SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I think the choice of which is more interesting to listen to is obvious.

All that has been said holds some truth, no doubt.
Agreed, Sanchez's commentary was funny, maybe its just me, but it gets a little annoying after a while.
After all, it WAS the story that got me interested in the game :p

Well maybe its because my initial intent of watching the video was to learn something new from the more experienced players. (eg. different types of guardbreaks etc.)
So all in all, I'm not pointing fingers or anything, just voicing out my thoughts.
