By not being a huge douche. You haven't mentioned the MM at all on your own. You're downplaying your failure by always bringing up winning the tournament instead. How about you start trying to be a part of the community instead of talking shit where you can't back it up? You put down 10 bucks to win the tourney. When you had to put down 100 bucks, you lost. This is why losing the MM weighs heavier than winning the tournament. There was a lot more on the line.

Let's get this shit rolling. Evo World, FT10, $500, any controller allowed (keyboard with the other player's keys removed), short breaks allowed. Take it or leave it. Win whatever tournaments you want, I don't give a fuck. Real money on the line = real talk.

Oh, and any controller malfunctions loses the player that game.

I still hardly play this fucking game but the Brandino shit is pretty ridiculous.  I offer an additional $50 3/5 MM to Brandino. (wtf $50 sounds cheap now)

From my perspective, you're being too cocky.  Choco's giant quote of what you said regarding AZ Melty Blood is proof of it.  I would never see or hear those kind of words coming from Zar, Sp00ky or Arlieth.  Even though I was a nobody, I received words of encouragement from Sp00ky and Arlieth at WT4 (wow, that was awhile ago).  You could say you're trash talking for hype, but is it good hype?  It creates drama like we're seeing now.

So you're asking how to get respect from the MB community?  Take a look at Choco.  His early impressions at West Toasts were not good.  He came off as an aggressive weeboo faggot with a Satsuki that lost to Mason and Leo.  But his reputation changed at Evo.  And it wasn't just because he won his money match with Leo.  After he won, he invited Leo for drinks.  No trash talking, no arrogant aura.  People took a second look at Choco and realized that he's not a dick.  He's actually a chill dude.  And it's true that Choco comes off as a dick at times.  But when he does, he apoligizes.  It's happened right here in the forums - you've seen it.  Choco's respected in the community not just because he's won a few money matches, but because he's a chill dude who can be humble when he needs to be.

Just so you know, I have never downplayed netplay.  So I hope you won't think I'm attacking you just because of that.  Psylocke's the first person to show me that being good in netplay DOES account for skill on arcade/console.  And I've got mad respect for him, along with Xianoir and Multi who you probably know also came from netplay backgrounds.

We know you're good.  You've already got respect for that.  But you're losing respect for not respecting your competition.  If all your actions are stemmed from some sort of inferiority-complex over people hating on netplay, I hope you'll come to your senses - not everyone hated on netplay.  And for the people who did, winning a major tournament was the first step.  Being chill about it was the next.  When you prove people wrong, you need to back off a bit and let it sink in.  You don't rub it in their faces.  Not just because it's the best method to change peoples' minds, but because it's good sportsmanship.  Even if people talked trash about you, you should win tournaments and show you're better by NOT trash talking back.  Poke a little fun here and there, sure.  You don't have to be a statue.  Just don't be fanatical.  All you gotta do to gain respect in this community is chill out.

Of course, you can keep on doing what you're doing if you'd like.  Even in professional sports, there are atheletes who decide to toss sportsmanship aside and decide to be cocks anyway.  It's your call.

(the words posted are from the perspective from a scrubby MB player who was not at any of the tournaments where above-mentioned incidents occurred.  the poster was aware of this fact and intended to post his opinion without giving off an impression that he knew exactly what he was talking about, but had a rough idea.)

In theory, this is completely correct and everybody should take note of this manner of thinking. However at Final Round both sides were pretty much dicks to each other, not much sportsmanship on either side. Brandon and Choco took this thing too far.

Besides all that shit the tourney was fun as hell, didn't do as well as I thought I would but got plenty of casuals and met a bunch of cool people. Good shit all around.

Seriously... this drama needs to end!  Brandino won the tourney, Choco won the MM... that's all.  I may not have been a part of the community for very long, but I do know that calling an even bigger MM isn't going to solve anything!  Let's just all put this behind us.

I say this because I've spoken with both sides numerous times at FR and you are both chill.  The thing is, both of you took this rivalry too far and it resulted in this.  Brandino's no cocky MF... I know that because he even told me himself that the MM was going to be a tough battle (this was over a month ago).  Him talking smack and calling it "FREE MONEY" was just hype talk and, to an extent, a joke.  He was actually very nervous about it and I had to keep reassuring him that he'll be fine.  I agree that Brandino went too far with the talk, but I can assure you it ain't happening again (not on my watch!).  If you want to blame someone, blame me for constantly telling him that he's got this.

All I'm saying is, you both need to calm down and let this be an actual rivalry and not an attempt to destroy each other.  I'd rather we didn't end up like the Tekken community and actually be one that can get along with everyone (I know we can because I get along with a lot of you guys... and I'm quite the asshole!  ;D).

Jaxx - Well... seeing as I pissed you off, and I play Sion who pisses EVERYONE off, it means I must be doing something right! :V  I'll try to keep leveling up as much as I can.  Your Chaos scared the shit outta me (j.C x n =  :'()

The war has been settled. This money match here is simply a money match. I'm throwing out another challenge, and if he think he can top it, good for him. No calling anyone a chicken, no johns, no pressure. If he wants to call it and practice up, good shit. If not, oh well. I will say that if the match is taken and I win, the money is going straight into an Actress Again supergun fund.

As for Tare, though, his bullshit and whining got on my nerves, so the offer of a $200 MM against him with the same rules as above stands as a grudge match. He probably won't take it, since he's demanding FT5 just to be a little bitch. If I don't agree to his terms, QQ, no money for you.

Man, y'all are dorks. Look, Brandino won the FRXI Melty tournament, so he gets his FRXI badge and his pimp cup and whatevers. Choco beat Brandino 10-5 in a moneymatch, so officially, Choco > Brandino. For now. Rematches have to be settled at the next event. There ain't no battle, there ain't no war, just a bunch of you Melty players that needs to get their heads screwed on straight. Then we can actually enjoy all this and bet on the Phoenix Suns vs. Columbus... uhh...

lol at hype trailer, gogo fucking waffles

gratz for brandon for winning his 2nd major, hes 2 for 2

gratz for choco winning his MM, as for the post that brandon made a long time ago about free money, IIRC that was before you guys added the extra rule of only stix, although brandon did beat you 5 games on stix a more accurate result of whos better is if brandon did get to use his pre-historic time pad

Sup Mailorder. =)  I just wanted to say a few things re: your post.

This latest event wasn't about netplay.  Now, NEC...yep, that was definitely about the netplay thing.  But since then, people here have learned what's up; I'm actually impressed with how well the Melty community understands the value of netplay, compared to SRK.

The thing with Brandon is that after NEC he expected to be regarded as a top player, since a good number of the top players were there and he came out above them.  We talked about some of this stuff when I drove him back home today, but I think he didn't realize that new players rarely get credit right off the bat and you have to keep doing it over a period of time for people to buy into you.

Actually, he reminds me a lot of myself when I was around his age - cares a lot (probably TOO much) about the game and its surrounding drama, people's reputations, etc.  A lot of what pisses him off used to piss me off back then; it eventually drove me to quit gaming altogether for over a year, during which I gained a sense of perspective and realized how utterly meaningless most of this shit is.  I've been relating my experiences to him and trying to help him understand how shit works, so hopefully he'll get things figured out quicker than I did.

THIS, IS, SPARTAAAAAAAAA

Warning, tldr post, I'll just post the relevant stuff;

> <Chocy> FT10, $200, any control method except keyboard unless the other player's keys are removed. Short breaks allowed, Evo World. Anything else?
> > FT10, how about FT5
> <Chocy> For $200? Get out of here.
<Greyvangelist> hhahahha
> > What? You decline?
> <Chocy> FT10.
> > FT5
> <Chocy> FT10. I am not backing down from this.
> > FT5, I'm not either
<Greyvangelist> rofl
> <Chocy> Then you're chickening out
> > LOL
> > Your Harman logic is brilliant
> > I must be chickening out
<Chocy> So let me break it down
<Chocy> FT10, accept whenever you want. I'm not down for quick money, let's decide who's better.
<Chocy> If you don't accept, that's your choice.
<Chocy> But going to FT5 on a match for double the money of my matches vs. Leo and Brandino is just you being a massive dick to me a massive dick
> Uhhh, let's get this straight
> I just said for 4 times in a row
> FT5
> But you're making it sound like Im chickening out cause Im not taking FT10
> Am i correct
<Chocy> Haha. Well, not worth my time or my money, apparently. Kinda dumb though
<Chocy> You're trying to gain hardbody respect when you haven't even proven yourself yet
> It's nort worth your time? Isnt FT5 shorter
<Greyvangelist> shield your eyes
<Chocy> So I think I'll just /ignore and be done with you. If you're good enough, PM me on meltybread.com accepting FT10
<Chocy> Scrub.

- At this point Choco mutes me but keeps going on with words and asks people to copy paste what I've said in response cause he ignored me (?) -

<Chocy> Ooooookay
<Chocy> So, on an ending note, no matter what the guy who doesn't know how MMs go (FT10) because he doesn't go outside of his home to play says:
<Chocy> I worked for my status in the community. Since you have not, I am not going to respect you and your bullshit FT5. Shit makes me lol.
<Chocy> So if you want to earn your place in the community, make your first MM important, accept someone else's rules, and win. That will make you rank up. But demanding FT5 just sounds wussy and doesn't gain you ANY respect
<Chocy> Let's have some odds. Maybe that'll think about accepting a real MM
<Chocy> FT10, $200 if I win, $300 if he wins

FT10 is the standard for any MM money match, any other rules are by means not valid or decisive whatsoever. Be forewarned for all you future money matchers that want to enter the big leagues, FT10 only.

First to ten is fucking retarded.

Man the fuck up and do that shit first to five for several hundred dollars, stop trying to cushion that shit.

@ Josh:

This community is still too damn young to be considering anyone as a top player. Winning two tournaments with only 30 something odd entrants won't grant anyone shit imho, outside of just getting that money. That's not to say that Brandon isn't any good, because he is good, but noone in this community really has the right to be given that title, and I don't think they will for quite a while. You can claim bragging rights all you want mind you, but pushing 'top player status' is getting ahead of yourself.

OK, now to actually post about the tourney!  I was the small white guy playing Kouma, in case anyone doesn't know.

Pfhor & Voomer, nice meeting you guys, and thanks for showing me something that makes Fatal Fake look good!

PBJ, you're the best ever.  You should be at every major, this must become a law.

Real talk, Shinobi, you consistently bring the real talk.  Real talk!

Jiyuna, god DAMN you are scary, I've got too much respect for ya.

Xianoir, didn't get to see you play as much, but congrats on 2nd, and Len is evil.

Chibi, keep on playing dat SNK!  Maybe next time we could even get some Melty games - won't be trying any more hotel tournies anytime soon! =P

Rob, you're a god damn sexy beast (no homo), but you already know that.

Choco, you did what you set out to do, nothing left to say but "good fucking shit"!  MEESHUN KUMPRETE.

Jaxx, that was a good match!  DAMN THE ZOO AAAGGGGGHHH

Kurum, you killed me just as bad IRL as you did in netplay.  Need to get over the V.Sion hump!

And Brandon, we've already been through this, so I don't need to say anything more.  Great job in the tourney, now just focus on the game, level your shit up for next time, and stay strong.

Good times, everyone, and hope to see you at MWC!

I'll have to agree with Chibi here. FT10 is just way too much. With a theoretical max of 19 matches it becomes a test of endurance rather than a test of skill. If you are even remotely confident in yourself, FT3 should be sufficient. If you don't have confidence, don't play.

I disagree with FT3 and FT5. Sure, if there is a big gap of skill and experience, these game requirements are enough. FT10, however, is more definitive as to who the best player is. Not only are more matches played, but against people close in skill level, there's a lot more analyzing, experimentation, and emotional fluctuations than in a shorter match like FT5. The point of these money matches of mine is to prove who can be the better MB player overall, not just at winning a few matches. In the FT10, Brandino and I were almost neck-in-neck after 8-9 games. I forget if he got to 5 first, I'd have to check the replays. When it came down to it, a cool head was what came through in the end. So while there may be some "endurance" involved, the dynamics of a FT10 are much more appealing to me than FT3 or FT5.

In short, I'll continue issuing FT10 matches for big money from now on.

Re: FINAL ROUND DRUNK RESULTS

First to 3 or 5 can display skill just as easily as a first to ten can, a first to ten's real purpose is just endurance, and that's something better applied to a tournament match. GF at FRXI were absurdly quick (for obvious drunkard reasons), but look at NEC 7, where GF's between Spooky and Zar took around 45 minutes. I mean I can understand wanting to play 1st to ten with $100 on the line, but it does the complete opposite for people watching really. Noone knew you won the damn MM until half an hour later because we had all up and left at that point.

Think about it, if you're going on for 19 games, you're going to hit auto pilot somewhere along the line for sure, but if you've only got three or five matches to get under your belt, you're going to be playing at 1,000% efficiency, where as you can cushion your losses in a first to ten.

I mean come on, 'breaks' between matches? You shouldn't even get that luxury, adapt quick or lose out.
