the tournament was free, so whatever. it ran smoothly at least so props to that.

the people who did the hookups though, wern't equipped for anything. example- Virtua Fighter 5 on PS3, ran on Composite Cables (480i) on a 42 inch HDTV. in 4:3 unstretched lag-vision.

uhh laggy Tv's wouldn't be input lag cause the machine would still be reading it at the exact moment you put it in it would just take you a second to see the results.

There is no gameplay difference between input lag and display lag...unless sound isn't delayed...

Display lag causes an effective lag of inputs. Doesn't matter when the machine reads it because, guess what, you play by visual confirmation (or at least I hope you do). That extra "second" that it takes to see the results (hopefully it's not actually 1 second otherwise you're in for quite a trip) will already have an effect on your game whether or not you realize it regardless of how much you attest to it having "no effect" or you "having gotten used to it". Yes, it IS possible to overcome this obstacle by playing on that particular display setup whenever you play that particular game, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that is not going to be the case.

on HDTVs, when the display is lagged, the manufacturers know to also delay the sound to re-sync with the video.

but to re-iterate, input lag and display lag are two VERY different things, but both contribute to: poor response, failed execution, etc.
