I was told the computers in the lab we were given could handle MBAC. Fortunately, I felt the need to test the computers myself to make sure...nope, they can't. Sorry guys but I'm going to have to cancel the tourney cuz I'm sure no one wants to play MBAC with random lag.

What: Fund Raiser Tournament
When: Sat., Jan. 26, 2008 Sat., Feb. 2, 2008 - 3:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m.
Where: DeVry Pomona - 901 Corporate Center Drive, Pomona, CA 91768
Why: We've got 50 computers available...ALL THE FREE PLAY YOU WANT!

The Gaming Club at DeVry, Pomona is looking to raise funds by hosting a Melty Blood Tournament on campus. We've been given access to a computer lab with 50 computers and an LCD projector for displaying results and highlight matches. Japanese breads and snacks will be sold at the event so come hungry. All food items will have to be kept in the commons right next to the lab and away from the computers. Plenty of tables available if you want to bring your own laptops, consoles, etc.

Entry Fee: $5 ($4 to pot, $1 donated)
Rules: Best two out of three, Double elimination
Good chance we'll be able to squeeze in a team tourney afterwards with plenty of time to spare

Parking is free on Saturdays
The lab computers don't have speakers. Anyone able to bring speakers if I can't get the IT department to allocate enough?

It is kinda short notice. If it can be moved, perhaps the following Saturday? If not, then I'll do my best to attend. I have a pair of VERY cheap speakers. They might work.

you are able to borrow speakers from the lab but each set of speakers needs to be accounted for with a school (devry) id.

what time did you plan on getting this started?
I'm pretty sure the Pomona building closes at 6pm on Saturday just like the Long Beach building. You don't wanna get the security guards pissed by staying extra hours because the tournament hasn't wrapped up yet.

Is anyone from Semi or LA going to this? The drive is a bit too long for me to go all the way by myself, but if i were to park at someone's place on the way and travel the rest of the way in their car, I'd do it. Might bring 1-2 people with me also.

parking's free on saturday. i should stick that in the first post. i'm told you can park in the handicap spots and they won't care...wouldn't try it though

Great, I've been told that the campus closes at 5:00 on Saturdays so the tournament's starting at 2:00. It really shouldn't take that long but this is the first MBAC tourney we're hosting here and I'm not expecting everything to run smoothly. Along that same line, I'm being told that we can acquire speakers from the Tech Department for the tourney but once again, I would encourage people to bring any speakers they have available incase things fall through.

As for food, apart from the breads we'll be selling, there's a cafeteria on campus and the food actually isn't half bad. Fair variety too. There's also a Carl's, Lil' Caesar's, and various other shops serving ethnic dishes. You could also try the food court at CPP if they're open.

Computer adapters (Pelican or equivalent) - Will they be supplied or will ya have to bring your own?

Edit: Oh yes. Also if you can, supply a campus map showing parking and where the computer room will be held. I can only explore for so long. ;3

well, that depends on how many people want to go and how many people are willing to bring laptops. we've only got 3 hours max and that was perfectly fine when we had 50 computers. so if we can get enough laptops, converters, etc. to finish the tourney in three hours, I'll reinstate the tourney

I was meaning to try and test out MBAC over here on the computers at devry long beach.
I'll try it tomorrow since I need to go in to school to finish up the club board for some extra club money from a contest

Ok so I guess this still isn't happening.

I have an idea as a replacement though. The new student center here at UCI is HUEG. There's 2 tv lounges and lots of open space outside the rooms. I'm guessing we could use the open space and set up laptops. And since it's the weekend there probably won't be that many people there studying and such. There's also this one other room that nobody really knows about and there's quite a number of chairs and tables as well. It's like another room where people use to go study. Granted this whole thing sounds like a longshot since I'm not necessarily reserving any of the space that we'd be using because I have no affiliations with clubs that would grant me this kind of access, but it's something to think about at least. :\ Beacuse I was really looking forward to this. ;_; We probably wouldn't be able to run a tourney but at least we can get casuals in.

Can we reschedule that to another day, preferably maybe a week before WTX or something? Make it a casuals day or something. Although we could do that at FFA just as easily I suppose. Unfortunately, Irvine is ~2 hours drive for me, which isn't a ton of fun, but I'd still consider doing it sometime in the future.

I wouldn't mind pushing it to the weekend after, but the only problem is, that's my birthday and I'm going home to visit my family.
