Yeah seriously, what was wrong with Anaheim? I was told that since ACC was booked this year so they moved the location instead of the date. Do they not realize that even if they move the date people will still make time to attend regardless? :\
Didn't it have something to do with the contract running out for this year and AX got outbidded?
That's what I heard, and if I remember right, it was a 4 year contract.  So who knows what's going to happen, if they can even get Anaheim again in 2011.  :/
Boys do not exist on the Internet. You're just pretending to be a guy to get attention!

its a 2 year contract the acc is free in 2009 till then we're stuck with lbcc, lacc, and(which I don't understand why they don't use this in the first place) san deigo convention center.

I'm chiming in a bit late here but did anyone read the post AX interview with Chase Wang attempting to address all the complaints made this year. I read this in it's entirety and I only came to one conclusion. Chase Wang is a fuzzbag.

I am sooo glad no one captured my matches on video, they were horrid. So horrid in fact that watching them could make a person lose any faith they had in being able to turn a bad player into a decent one...

a guy named Chase that went to USC, not that hard to believe. And yes LACC is ghetto as fuck, i dont think any amount of "rennovation" will fix it up, and hey Chase, don't expect the LAPD to help you do anything....

Kinda hard to take a person with that name seriously. I read the whole thing and basically he's just trying to say "it wasn't that bad." Well it WAS that bad. And it's going to be worse next year if it's at LACC. I love that whole bit about the San Diego Comic Con part. It's so true and he tried to avoid it completely. ANN raised a lot of good points, and the one I advocate most, simply moving the date instead of the location.

Wow, that guy is a douche. I regularly have to hurdle over sleeping homeless people there after 8pm if I'm in that area, and last year's E3 was no exception. Next year is going to be a flipping disaster.

I don't understand why he doesn't seem to get in his head that AX is just like Comic Con now. Most of the attendees understand that it is an industry convention. The industry goes there simply because its a mass medium of companies with money and ideas and they have a majority of their targeted audiences right under one roof. Exhibitors, make tons of money at that convention, but we have to bring all the stuff we got just to make sure we gain some kind of profit from all the fees that AX charges(almost as much as Comic Con) now. They need to break that "tradition" mindset and get realistic. AX isn't the con it was back in 91'. If you want to go to a convention that is run by fans, go to something like Anime LA(small con), or something that is of a moderate size like Fanime. Anyway, it is freakin time for them to hire a professional staff. They are risking too much putting inexperienced people(not all, but most of them) who lack the know how of dealing with people, bs, and most importantly...the unexpected. Also, money talks. A lot of volunteers don't care about what they do, they want that free badge and room. A majority of you people probably wouldn't be working(or caring) where you are now if it wasn't for money. Volunteering at a big convention like that is only asking for trouble. Chase Wang is failing and that interview makes it very apparent. Anyway, I wonder how long they will last until they are left with no choice but to change.  :(

the arcade receives 20k up front just for being the arcade host, not counting the revenues he makes.

theres buttloads of money in AX staff thats goes to the top of the pyramid. i guess it'll take one shitty year at the LACC to let them waste all the money into if for shit like "shuttles". Seriously FUCK SHUTTLES.

They really tore into con-goers wallets this year with the premier tickets and all. Hell they were giving away free tickets at almost every event which made the 4 hour line and $30-50 spent practically worthless.

Shuttles are one thing, I think this guy was thinking more along the line of buses. There's no way that I would willingly go to a con where I would need to take a bus to and from my hotel (which would probably be right out of walking distance anyways) simply to keep me safe at night. Also with around 44,000+ people all trying to get to the same place at the same time I can already see that this whole bus idea is a major fail.

I think next year's going to be the year that AX actually shrinks in terms of attendance. I would love to see around only 500 hardcore AX fans show up next year, that would definitely give them a kick in the ass to get some major changes rolling...

They've always made event tickets "free".  You just usually had to wait in a huge line to get them.  Now that they suckered a ton of people into buying premie tickets, the normal people won out really.  Everyone benefited from no line to wait in (since the seats are assigned, you're an idiot to wait in line, in the hot sun).  If you wanted a close seat, you paid money that's all it was for.  For some people being that close was worth it.  They can keep the premium tickets for all I care, it means I get my own ticket that much easier.  Hopefully assigned seating too so I don't have to wait in line for hours.   :V

I'm not sure what kind of disaster it'll take for the Board of Directors to notice.  I'm not sure AX even going down in flames would be enough for them to wake up to reality.  They certainly don't care about AX, and if well even if they did their priorties would are FUBAR'ed.  (See MTP's story about how they did something about the HnK tourney being cancelled, but nothing about SKIN/SOS concert delays? LOL)

ANN raised a lot of good points, and the one I advocate most, simply moving the date instead of the location.

Seconded on the date thing. I certainly don't mind having to go to AX during a different long weekend as long as it's in Anaheim, and I'm sure most other AXers would agree. Despite the fact that I'm sick of Disneyland and of the idea that I'd be somewhere in its immediate area, it beats having to dodge muggers and not accidentally run over homeless people near the LACC.

Worse comes to worst, I hope they keep it in Long Beach next year if they can't get Anaheim. Neither anime nor Melty Blood would be enough to bring me anywhere near Los Angeles for an entire day, let alone four.
