I don't even think I'll be going to AX this year because I don't have a ride. :( Have fun on the machine though.

: Mailorder June 23, 2007, 01:38:13 PM
Jaxx and I will be there.

There's gonna be a machine?  Yet the morning tournament is gonna be on PS2?

morning tourney is on pads, pretty stupid standard AX rules.

arcade is b2

I'll be there as well as Numakie for the whole con.  ;D

Huh, okay.  Is machine gonna be on free play?  If not, how much to play?

Sorry, not keeping up with AX's threads - and I don't really want to : (
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA

I'll guess 50 to play 25 to continue.  But the Fanime people should know, since people said that the machine at Fanime will be the one at AX.
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: WickedElement June 24, 2007, 03:40:31 AM
I believe it will be 50 cents to play, and 50 to continue.
Simply because all the machines were like that.   :psyduck:

Someone wanna fill me in on where they announced that they'll be having an MBAC arcade machine there?

From what I can recall, they will only be having the PS2 tournament on pad.

: Safaia June 24, 2007, 08:14:32 AM
Yeah, it was 50 to play, 50 to continue at Fanime.

Though I never heard about a machine at AX, either.
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: scottind June 24, 2007, 10:50:42 AM
well, thats the 2006 arcade list, totally outdated.

and yes melty blood will be in the arcade, despite what the "official" ax arcade list says.

they're too lazy to update their arcade list, i talked to the arcade distributer myself.

: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: Choco June 24, 2007, 10:12:25 PM
You'll have to do a mock tourney. JoeW has stated if there's any money riding on any matches and he finds out, you'll be banned4lyfe.
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: WickedElement June 25, 2007, 02:26:10 AM
If any of us end up doing MM, is there anyone volunteering a room with a PS2 console, that we can play at and bring sticks to use at?
Simply because I prefer sanwa/seimitsu over pads, and P360s.
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: scottind June 25, 2007, 07:23:36 AM
last year i won the 3s tourney and won a set of kingdom hearts graphic novels, and mini bumpy trot hermonica. cmon man, that shit is worth more than gold at AX.

and where is this no-MM rule? AX is not conducive to any kind of competitive gaming at all, no sticks, no money tournaments, no 3s....
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: Sumaragi June 26, 2007, 12:08:46 AM
There will be a 3rd Strike machine.

And we are planning to replace either Hokuto no Ken or Bleach with 3rd for the console gaming tournaments.

http://forums.anime-expo.org/index.php?s=&showtopic=4820&view=findpost&p=291112 - Another reason I have burning hatred for JoeW. Maybe that will change later on, but I don't like his game room handling or his online demeanor right now.

Anyone not at AX and going tomorrow, get their EARLY.

A friend of mine was in line for 4 hours before she got her badge.  I was there from 9 'til 11, and only got through half of the line.  Had to leave since I had crap to do, but even if I sat through it 'til I had to go (latest at 1) I wouldn't of even got it.

Fuck their reg line.  Pre-reg in line for only an hour?  wtf-ever. (http://youbore.us/Smileys/classic/emot-suicide.gif)

Console tournament was pretty bad due to the various circumstances (tv lag, forced to use crap controllers, etc).

Videos:

Scott vs. Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc-7wLoHCqE)
linalys vs. Jux (http://www.youtubeisstillprocessingit.com/)
s0ma vs. Kozu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeF5fEfWBUA)
Me vs. Jux (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1f6UAH3ZAk) (Winners Finals)
Linalys vs. Jux (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcQBQNqx2LM) (Losers Finals)
Me vs. Jux (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSKt5Gmnj34) (Grand Finals)

I was hoping to get to play linalys during the tournament but did not get the chance. Hopefully I get to play Arlieth/linalys some time during this con.

Did Mailorder, Jaxx and vmoney not enter the tournament? Or did they get knocked out really early due to it being a PAD TOURNAMENT :D?
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: scottind July 01, 2007, 03:11:26 AM
tv lag was pretty non-apparent to me to nil response time. my only gripe is pad. Pad Warriors rejoice!

anyway, i never got back into the console room after that. I did stop by once buy they switched it to ual GG Accent Core setup, i was thinking, "fuck that, time to go to the arcade"

and i wanted baked cookiee.... :(

I played Mailorder and vmoney in some casuals some time after the tourney.  Also Vmoney, you MUST STOP PLAYING WARC NOW, since I beat you on pad, with input lag.  :teach:.  I just wish the stick in the arcade would stop shielding when I try to dash.
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: Mailorder July 01, 2007, 07:42:15 PM
Jaxx and Vmoney didn't enter.  They were busy taking care of S.K.I.N. tickets.  I came late, but I managed to replace someone who left in the loser's bracket.  Won my first loser's bracket match, lost the second one to a mediocre Kouma.  I hate to make excuses and say I would have slaughtered this guy if I had my stick, but oh well.  I lost, but I had a good time.

Congrats to Magz for winning!  I managed to snag a few games with him at the arcade a few times - his Satsuki is definitely not to be taken lightly.  Pretty much killed me.

If the random Nor Cal dudes I played (one of them had a name that ended in -deux)  are reading this, keep playing MB : )

Also... Scott and Leo, you two are very pleasant drunks!  I plan to drink (ha ha) with you two as often as possible.

But yeah, some memorable (not really) quotes from faggets in the console gaming room:
Loser 1: When's the HnK tournament starting?
Staff: It's cancelled.
Loser: Why?
Staff: Only 3 people entered.
Loser: So when does it start?

Unknown Akiha vs. Kozu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeF5fEfWBUA) (anyone got a name?)

That was me  :P.

Sorry I haven't quite introduced myself on the bread quite yet. Long time reader and lurker pretty much. I started playing MBAC roughly at the start of the year. Wasn't a big buff of fighting games prior, but this game's awesomeness eventually made me think about learning the game and getting a stick.

AX overall was pretty fun, despite a lot of setbacks (I guess it's on how you look at it?)

Good games to everyone, especially linalys who handed me my ass with Miyako  ;D. I hope I won't be too lurk too much on the forums in the future and be anti-social in real life, cause it'd be cool to meet and befriend people in the scene.

And boo, I didn't know that there was a cab in the arcade, or else I'd have hit it up :(. Oh well, maybe next year.

And boo, I didn't know that there was a cab in the arcade, or else I'd have hit it up :(. Oh well, maybe next year.

The arcade was where all my MB games took place.  Nothing is funnier then getting 19+ wins against random people and trading back and forth with mainly Leo and others.

Wish there were more people who joined the arcade scene. The controls were a little less then subpar though but that didnt stop me =P

Moving it to LACC is one of the worst things they could possibly do. I've commuted to it almost every day before. See the sincerity in my CAPS. IT'S FUCKING HORRIBLE! Add to the fact that LA parking sucks in general and there's hardly any lodging nearby. It would not be in their best interest to move it there.

Fortunately they are aware that lots of people didn't like LBCC so they have 12 months to turn this around.

Long Beach wasn't that bad...

I don't see the need for changing venues again 2 years in a row. I'm assuming all the mishaps at Long Beach this year are due to staff being out of the groove of being around the Anaheim Convention Center. I'd only see the experience at LBCC improving if they kept at it like they did with Anaheim.
: Re: AX in Long Beach, CA
: Sumaragi July 04, 2007, 09:51:17 PM
All of the mishaps go a lot further than venue issues. LA wouldn't be any better than LBCC though. I think it's just a debate whether we stay at LBCC or go to LACC though.

I'm chiming in a bit late here but did anyone read the post AX interview with Chase Wang attempting to address all the complaints made this year. I read this in it's entirety and I only came to one conclusion. Chase Wang is a fuzzbag.

I am sooo glad no one captured my matches on video, they were horrid. So horrid in fact that watching them could make a person lose any faith they had in being able to turn a bad player into a decent one...

a guy named Chase that went to USC, not that hard to believe. And yes LACC is ghetto as fuck, i dont think any amount of "rennovation" will fix it up, and hey Chase, don't expect the LAPD to help you do anything....

Yea, I'm seriously considering passing on next years Expo. I guess I'll just wait and see how things turn out.

Kinda hard to take a person with that name seriously. I read the whole thing and basically he's just trying to say "it wasn't that bad." Well it WAS that bad. And it's going to be worse next year if it's at LACC. I love that whole bit about the San Diego Comic Con part. It's so true and he tried to avoid it completely. ANN raised a lot of good points, and the one I advocate most, simply moving the date instead of the location.

Wow, that guy is a douche. I regularly have to hurdle over sleeping homeless people there after 8pm if I'm in that area, and last year's E3 was no exception. Next year is going to be a flipping disaster.

I don't understand why he doesn't seem to get in his head that AX is just like Comic Con now. Most of the attendees understand that it is an industry convention. The industry goes there simply because its a mass medium of companies with money and ideas and they have a majority of their targeted audiences right under one roof. Exhibitors, make tons of money at that convention, but we have to bring all the stuff we got just to make sure we gain some kind of profit from all the fees that AX charges(almost as much as Comic Con) now. They need to break that "tradition" mindset and get realistic. AX isn't the con it was back in 91'. If you want to go to a convention that is run by fans, go to something like Anime LA(small con), or something that is of a moderate size like Fanime. Anyway, it is freakin time for them to hire a professional staff. They are risking too much putting inexperienced people(not all, but most of them) who lack the know how of dealing with people, bs, and most importantly...the unexpected. Also, money talks. A lot of volunteers don't care about what they do, they want that free badge and room. A majority of you people probably wouldn't be working(or caring) where you are now if it wasn't for money. Volunteering at a big convention like that is only asking for trouble. Chase Wang is failing and that interview makes it very apparent. Anyway, I wonder how long they will last until they are left with no choice but to change.  :(

the arcade receives 20k up front just for being the arcade host, not counting the revenues he makes.

theres buttloads of money in AX staff thats goes to the top of the pyramid. i guess it'll take one shitty year at the LACC to let them waste all the money into if for shit like "shuttles". Seriously FUCK SHUTTLES.

They really tore into con-goers wallets this year with the premier tickets and all. Hell they were giving away free tickets at almost every event which made the 4 hour line and $30-50 spent practically worthless.

Shuttles are one thing, I think this guy was thinking more along the line of buses. There's no way that I would willingly go to a con where I would need to take a bus to and from my hotel (which would probably be right out of walking distance anyways) simply to keep me safe at night. Also with around 44,000+ people all trying to get to the same place at the same time I can already see that this whole bus idea is a major fail.

I think next year's going to be the year that AX actually shrinks in terms of attendance. I would love to see around only 500 hardcore AX fans show up next year, that would definitely give them a kick in the ass to get some major changes rolling...

They've always made event tickets "free".  You just usually had to wait in a huge line to get them.  Now that they suckered a ton of people into buying premie tickets, the normal people won out really.  Everyone benefited from no line to wait in (since the seats are assigned, you're an idiot to wait in line, in the hot sun).  If you wanted a close seat, you paid money that's all it was for.  For some people being that close was worth it.  They can keep the premium tickets for all I care, it means I get my own ticket that much easier.  Hopefully assigned seating too so I don't have to wait in line for hours.   :V

I'm not sure what kind of disaster it'll take for the Board of Directors to notice.  I'm not sure AX even going down in flames would be enough for them to wake up to reality.  They certainly don't care about AX, and if well even if they did their priorties would are FUBAR'ed.  (See MTP's story about how they did something about the HnK tourney being cancelled, but nothing about SKIN/SOS concert delays? LOL)

Seconded on the date thing. I certainly don't mind having to go to AX during a different long weekend as long as it's in Anaheim, and I'm sure most other AXers would agree. Despite the fact that I'm sick of Disneyland and of the idea that I'd be somewhere in its immediate area, it beats having to dodge muggers and not accidentally run over homeless people near the LACC.

Worse comes to worst, I hope they keep it in Long Beach next year if they can't get Anaheim. Neither anime nor Melty Blood would be enough to bring me anywhere near Los Angeles for an entire day, let alone four.
