AHH screw it, I'll be going..Don't care what anyone says I WILL BE BRACKETT'N THIS FOR THE WIN!

Dippy had props last time for NECX, nuff respect due...I think it's time to step up to the plate and do this for the community.

Only THIS time, I'll have modifications set for the bracketing so we don't have any random matches out of the whim.

AND, I plan to buy a spare megaphone in case someone's  :slowpoke:, :psyduck:  :V's voice dry out.

Should I reserve a hotel room @ Ceasar's Palace, I'll be asking people to either join in the room with me  for about a 1/4-1/5 of the price for the entire event. Think about it, I pay the entire shabamm, people only pay Team Poverty prices the same way I did via NECX (the room there was about 325 in change..per person was 50 clams... TEAM POVERTY STYLE!)

For the casuals n what not, I'll be DJ'n as usual w/ some new tunes and some new beats pumping on the sub woofers.

Can team Spooky make the top 3 for teams and singles this time around, and represent full for the East Coast melties? Will we see another handsome tag team rise to the occasion? WILL SOMEONE BRING SOME EXTRA HYPE TO THIS EVENT!!?

Stay Tuned!

Hitting this shit hard. Can't wait. A word of advice that I'm sure is already, but be assertive (and respectful) about securing setups. Hellsap and I had to really nag officials last year for GG...which was official. :psyduck:

lol yeah. we don't got dem sf4 numbers just yet.

There's always that "Teruta" guy who lives in the UK now. Someone needs to hit him up and see if he can fly (himself) down here. Any international hype would be nice.
He's going back to Japan in May. Or sometime like that. (I think he's gotten worse playing with us too lmao)

I'd like to say I'd come to this year, but it pretty much depends on if I can convince other Euros to make the trip so we can share a room, NEET expenditure ain't so high.  :psyduck:

If anything does happen I swear people will be able to hitconfirm this time.

That'd be dope if we could even get an EU (or JP!) showing, even if it's just a small one!  Also, why couldn't you just room up with non EU people?

Btw, I'll be PMing this out to everyone staying with me, but I'm making note in case I happen to have one or two more additions to the group later.

My plan goes as follows:
1. Everyone staying donates $10
2. I rent a free candy van to transport the lot of us around with ease (no hassle with two cars or anything)
3. Any money not spent on van rental fees goes into food funds for the lot of us (I'll take care of gas, so don't worry about that)

And finally, some important things to keep in mind:
1. I will be securing vacation time for two days before the event and one day after it (so I should have Thurs.7th-Mon.11th off from work), so any of you may fly in by 10pm Wed night at the absolute earliest.  Coordinating flight times would be awfully convenient for me, but really I don't mind making a number of trips if it comes down to it.
2. I should have enough towels/blankets/pillows and the such for everyone, but the more you can bring for yourself the better.  There's a wallgreens within walking distance from my house, so anything you forgot to bring (or couldn't bring due to airport security), you can buy with ease.  Speaking of preparation, it's going to be FUCKING HOT outside (like prolly 120F with 0 humidity) so be prepared for that kind of grueling weather (dress light and have water at all times)
3. As a courtesy, I ask that you don't get drunk at the house

well I wasn't really expecting anyone else to share with people they don't know so well, and I'd fully understand that. There's a big lot of Brits going down but they're all from the London crew, which may as well be far away as Vegas in the first place for all the scene we share in common.

Aww, come on now.  We're all brothers here.  Last year Evo I let some AUS guy I'd never even seen before in to my place, so surely you could room with some randoms.  EVO10 MAN!  MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I've got 4 summer courses, low funds, and I am an eighteen year-old Canadian; getting to Vegas solo for a weekend of a game I suck at (and one or two games I suck even worse at) looks more or less impossible.

...I'll see what I can do.

What? Who died and made you king?

WORD? someone died and just put up royalties for bracketology?! WHEN? Unless it's Dick Vitale from ESPN or someone close we can all inherit, let's jump in!- of course, doing brackets for March Madness would be awesome AND watch those games until the final 4 in Indianapolis this year (besdies getting paid in doing so =P ).

All jokes aside, I was getting hype b/c nobody posted about doing brackets for this event and either I'd help with them or assist in keeping an eye on things in case
you need someone's name called, etc.- the usual organizing stuff. If you feel you're cool in doing it yourself, the event's on you.

I'm planning to buy a megaphone so no one's voice cracks in the middle of the tourney (yes, it'd be embarrassing to hear someone squeak out two names or remind
people for tourney fees before anything), some extra speakers, and my laptop in case something goes wrong. I'm there to help any way possible, and still let you
do your job. Sounds fair, doesn't it?

If anyone had a problem with the brackets at NEC, this is the first I heard of it.

You'd be surprised how many people I've bumped to in a 2-day period and have told me about the woes from other tournaments during that time @ NEC: Brackets unorganized, favoritism, major time delay due to people playing in other tournaments, the works. And, trust me, even during casuals outside the Melty room I overheard tons of it, but it always falls to deaf ears, because most of the organizers-with the exception of a few- won't take the time to clean it up beforehand.

Want an example? Here's one that I couldn't understand why people would do brackets in the first place. First day @ NEC, 3s teams was under way- about an hour passed and right in the middle of the tournament, the organizer called up 2 teams. Ironic part was, due to bad organizing and bracketeering, one team from the winners had to play one team from the losers brackets without an explanation. One of the members of the winner's teams asked me if it's possible for an organizer to do that. I explained to him that there's no way how unless you get bumped TO the losers to play IN the losers bracket. Until then, I was convinced that whoever made those brackets had either a gut feeling they did something wrong, but didn't want to fix it to prevent other bumps along the way. And, there were bumps, to put it short. The result? Justin's team loses in the finals vs. Team Virginia via OVC and people were cheering for joy. How fast did they do it? IN FIVE HOURS FLAT. It took too long to set up everything, and the same organizers didn't have the time to even finish up best 8 for 3S singles until Sunday afternoon

Case in point: in the future events, including EVO WORLD, we should have a ranking system the same way some West Coast tourneys have organized it as well as the Japanese ranbats/mikados they set up so that it's bracketed as similar as the NCAA basketball tourney. If you've ever seen it, it's basically a total of 64 teams, plus a play-in game, before the major tournament to decide both the top 16 teams from the Eastern regional spots to the Western regional spots. All of them are combined, including those w/ acceptable records or buy-ins from other tournaments, and wild-card spots.

Translating that to a Melty tournament: have 16 ranked spots from both East and West Coast based on multiple results of tournaments, season starting either Winter or Fall all the way up to Melty EVO, including BOTH teams and singles with point structure (1st-10, 2nd-8,3rd-7,4th-6,5th-5,7th-3,9 to 11th-2,13 to 15th-1,etc.). Top 16 from both sides are bracketted individually with MANUAL BRACKETING. Why Manual? So there's no complaints about why people would play someone godlike first round and get bumped out of the blue, only to fight a long, uphill battle from Losers to at least top 8. Sure, it's not fair, and everybody-when I mean everybody, I mean everyone inside a specific tournament either ranked or unranked, new or veteran,  :psyduck:, :slowpoke:,or :prinny:,etc-deserves a shot. THEREFORE, after hearing ideas from NEC, this is a suggestive one that can easily clean up things without having people going and coming back to whoever started the brackets and giving them a 3rd degree (as to how lame it was done, why the formatting, :blah:etc..).

This idea came up to me from the previous BBG and some people who were playing in various tournaments brought up that idea as well so there's no lead to favoritism, no early bracket busting, etc. or any sort of action close. Also, it will also lead to some interesting bonuses along the way: pot bonuses, EC/WC showdowns, ultra-gdlke MM games to determine the best for any char, MOON MATCHES (thanks to the idea seen after the melty tournies via NEC- loser is forced to learn a specific char w/ a specific moon type after a number of sets), etc. the list goes on.

In a sense, I'd love to be a part of it so we can have something going for both East Coast and West Coast melty communities, make them just as strong as the Japanese Mikado ranbats, if not stronger in the future. Should anyone have a comment on this PM ME- I'll be away for about 2 weeks and won't be able to post until close to late Jan/early Feb.

FYI, I've been using bold for quite some time ever since I created my account here. NOBODY had a complaint about my bold fonts, not even when I posted on
the previous BBG boards, or anywhere else-let alone other people using bigger fonts, combinations of bold+italic, colored, including characters such as  :psyduck: used in their posts. Unless someone has a sight problem seeing darker letters in a board for any reason, I'll be keeping the letters bold for the time being- nuff said.

AntiShoto, I really think you're not really reading the air on this forum right. I understand you feel hype, but I think you may be trying to be going too deep too quick. At a normal job, you start out in a grunt position and work you way up. It appears you're trying to jump up and be really important and too helpful right from the start. We have many people who take over administrative roles already, and if you'd like to support the people who are already in place for that, then I'm sure that'd be appreciated. That'll let you prove your involvement in the community and perhaps become a household name. Dipstick has recording and commentary equipment, myself and over a dozen other people are qualified to do brackets, and lots of people with cameras. However, if you were to get a megaphone, that would be a large welcome addition to our setup. I'm surprised no one has gotten one yet, including me.

I haven't heard any dissent about bad brackets since... Zaelar did them at Evo2007. Seeing how top members in the community haven't caught wind of any bracket problems until you mentioned it, this seems like a very minor issue. Sounds more like griping that people who didn't place very high had to fight good people at all before top8 / top16. I invite anyone who has had a problem with the Melty Blood brackets to step up and let us know so we can determine if there's a problem or not.

So hey, start traveling and introducing yourself to people in the community so we really know who you are. I'm sure your ideas and intentions will be welcomed more after you're a bit more established.

That is some enormous bullshit.

tact plz

I suppose I should note that as of right now, I'm not going to be able to house any more than the current 6 (and 2 other locals).  Unless something changes in the future or I can find a decent way to transport any more people (neither situation is very likely), I will not be accepting any others at my place.

Current people staying:
Spooky (I think?)
Chibi
Zaelar
Brandino
Tempered

If someone drops out Lolisauce, can I get in? I was really late on this and I'm not playing anything other than MBAA this year so I have no obligations on being at the venue as much as last year. Also most likely if I make it I'll be able to pitch into a rental. I don't know I'll see as it gets closer.

Soniti asked for first dibs on an extra spot.  But I'll keep you both in mind if I find some way to get more people packed in my place.  Like I've said before, transportation is the biggest issue atm, but there's also prolly not much extra sleeping room either with 8 people staying.

Not that I'm an authority or running anything in any way at Evo.

I'm sort of confused as to where AntiShoto is coming from. It's not hard to create and run a decent set of double-elimination brackets with generally agreed-upon seeds, symmetrically distributed byes, etc. I'm pretty sure Duppy can handle it himself.

Also, Choco the Berserker calling someone else out on tact? :psyduck:

I suppose I should note that as of right now, I'm not going to be able to house any more than the current 6 (and 2 other locals).  Unless something changes in the future or I can find a decent way to transport any more people (neither situation is very likely), I will not be accepting any others at my place.

Current people staying:
Spooky (I think?)
Chibi
Zaelar
Brandino
Tempered
Komidol

..poverty house! we may have room in the hotel for extra bodies but you gotta pay...so our rooms is extended socal gg/bb crew

If I can afford a discounted floor spot at the time that may work if nothing opens up at LoliSauce's.
