Don't miss out on this years event as we have more goodies to announce in the up coming weeks! FINAL ROUND XV is only 33 days away!

We are proud to announce that FINAL ROUND XV will be on March 2-4, 2012. The hype doesn't stop and we had to start extra early on planning for FR15. As of right now the

Major game roster for FRXV are as followed:

*** = Games apart of the Evolution Tournament Season

1. Super Street Fighter 4 AE v.2012***

2. Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom3***

3. Soul Calibur V***

4. Mortal Kombat9***

5. BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2

6. Melty Blood AACC (PC only)

7. TekkenTagTournamentHD

8. King Of Fighters 13***

9. Street Fighter III 3rd strike online edition

10. Tekken6

The systems used will be PS3 for the time being. This may change if I get sponsorship from another source. Other games will be added to the list, but those are the core games that will be played at FR15 up to this moment. We have A LOT IN STORE for people that plan to attend FR15 that we will be hinting towards throughout the year. Being the 15th anny of FR we have to do it BIG this year event and that is one reason we are changing venues for FR15.

As always we aim to bring you the best tournament you've ever competed in each and every year and FR15 will try to top this years event! We are upgrading the venue from this past year event and we hope everyone will enjoy our new venue. The "WESTIN" is the new home of FR15 and here's the location:

The "WESTIN" Atlanta Perimeter North

7 Concourse Parkway

Atlanta,Georgia

30328

United States

With the 15th aniversary of Final Round we felt that we had to upgrade on the venue and we heard the complaints about having to pay for parking. This year there will be NO PARKING FEE'S!!!!! That goes for players that get a room at the hotel or for those that want to spectate. The Room rates will be $93.00 per night (Normally $165) if you reserve under the Final Round 15 group rate.

I CAN'T WAIT for this event to happen! If you think your serious about Fighting games and you always wanted to come to Final Round, but never had the chance to attend then don't MISS the 15th aniversary of FINAL ROUND!

Message to the STREAM MONSTER/STREAM CREEP:

It's confirmed "Team SPOOKY" at http://www.twitch.tv/teamsp00ky will be the Main stream for the 15th Anniversary of FINAL ROUND! Also we are hype to announce that a very talented streamer called "FunkyP" at http://www.twitch.tv/funkyp will be the 2nd stream during FINAL ROUND XV. They will also have various games during the 3 day event. A schedule for what games to be streamed will be made as the event gets closer for both streams. So get hype because there are more things instore to make this years event The best FINAL ROUND too date!

More info coming soon shawty........

As taken from the front page of SRK:

TeamSpooky and iPlayWinner to producer the first ever fighting game centered internet reality show. The show is called “Cross Assault” and it will follow the exploits of ten players as they try to win a prize of $25,000. Here is a description from the official press release.

Competing on Capcom’s next premier fighting game, Street Fighter X Tekken, the playing field is even. With strategic advice from the coaches, players must work together as a team and race to find the most effective strategies to win team challenges, or risk elimination.

And it’s completely LIVE. We will be live streaming practice sessions, team challenges, elimination matches, as well as player interviews and insight from special guests. You can watch as much as you want, and see the action unfold as it happens.

Cross Assault will be held in February with the finals being held at Final Round in Atlanta, GA, and you can enter! Just make a video telling Capcom why you would be a good contestant on Cross Assault and upload it to the internet. Then, submit the video link at the official Cross Assault application and rules page. You have to choose whether you are part of team Street Figther or team Tekken when you enter. Heck, for $25,000, I’ll be on any team you want me to be Capcom."

So make sure you check this series out on IPW/Spooky streams and be sure to watch the grand finals at FRXV on Saturday March 3, 2012. More exciting details for the 15th Anniversary of FINAL ROUND coming soon!

Larry to be honest, I doubt it will unless French Bread & the higher ups finish with the many updates they're doing for CC & THEN decide to have a console release. I want to do what I can to support a console release before this time & get people to come out this upcoming year, I was expecting at least 40 players & around 60 max but that didn't happen & neither did teams but next year WILL be different.

The last MBAACC update (1.07) is planned for October.A home release in 6 months after is possible but unless we get a word of the exact date from French Bread(they might tell us something about it in September)MBCC making it out for FR is unlikely at this moment.

Yeah & hopefully this WILL be the last one, but I'll give FB credit for testing out their products in the arcades & not charging an arm & a leg for half assed updates *COUGH COUGH CAPCOM*, but something must be done.............

Since the next version of MBAACC is confirmed for Dec. 31st would it be fair to say someone (Silent Shinobi / Jaxx) will be running a tournament for this game?

For PC & if so then yeah & I'll definitely help since I'm from GA originally & been pushing for news like this to be heard but as I said before we should wait for more news to just confirm which version we'll be using.

For those that know me or are interested in coming from East Coast, I'm about to get my badge in two weeks & reserve a hotel within two months, is there ANYONE in NY/Jersey/Philly, etc. that is actually SERIOUSLY going (100% CERTAIN you are coming via bus, plane, etc.) & possibly wants to room? I'm trying to get an idea now because I know my roommates this year were all cool with how we did things & don't want to leave the Melty community out just because I have real life friends I'm rooming with. Anyway PM me or just reply back on the thread.

Well since MBAACC PC will be out by then there's no reason NOT to have a tournament for it.

Want to drive down Brandino?  I'll be back in America for this.

I don't want to drive, but I will consider it.

Since Komidol, Kamina, and Myself was talking about CL going to Hydra JP Championship in Japan I have the idea of pitching in money for him to come down to Atlanta for this Final Round.

Final Round and crew always bring out international players and if you've been to the previous Final Rounds you would also know that Korean players Knee and Nin show up for Tekken. There's no reason why we can't do the same for him. I also know he always wanted to go to a Final Round for the past couple of years. If we can help him get here and show him how we get hype for Melty in "The A" then this can easily be the hypest tournament since NEC X. I'll pitch the idea to him whenever I get a hold of him on MSN.

Komidol and I agreed that we'll split the room and I help cover his fee. Let's really make this FR one everyone will remember.

Omg America woke up

Also confirming what Brandino said, if I pay for the room than it'll force me to go.  So I'm cool with this IF we're dragging CL out. :toot:

Well the metropolitan area is home to a huge Korean minority.

Like Koreatown-worthy huge.

So this has been like the fourth year I've been thinking of going to FR (not the fourth year for Melty mind you), but 3 days is rough and paying $50 venue fee for only casual free play (if it will even exist) and spectating for one day is just plain stupid.

Basically without going too tsundere, I need someone to make a decision for me that I can yes man because it's not like I want to go play Melty with real people or anything like that okay?! As long as you understand that... :psyduck:

I'm pretty sure the Badge won't be $50, this year for on-the-spot registration is was $40 for those people & $30 or $25 for those online. ORGANIZATION IS THE KEY, make sure you have dedicated people for a room, traveling, etc. This is the reason why about honestly 50% of the people who want to come can't or don't make it. Come out & play with people, it's so much more fun than automatic training mode muscle reflex. And in terms of koreantown, I forgot about the Duluth area, haven't been around there since WaBa when it was around, but come out either way if you're in-state, you really have no excuse, five months of preparation should be enough.....................

Hi, I'm from Brazil, and I'm not 100% sure yet, but I might be attending to Final Round XV, I'm saving money to go for at least one major tournament in US next year and I think it will be FR again. I'm going for it mostly to play BB (my main game), but I will start playing MB seriously when CC comes out by the end of the year and it will probably be my second main game.

Good luck in getting to Atlanta & MB's a good game to play & what perfect timing with CC around the corner, people are actually going to start playing again. Just brush up on what character you're interested in using & the game mechanics.

Thanks and I hope that a lot of people will be playing this. I already know some of the game mechanics and some basics of how to use zonning with my main (Aoko, dem orbs), but since CC is in the corner I don't want to study AC any more deeper so I don't have to relearn everything.

I just hope that Cristu get there too, so I will not be the only brazillian playing on Atlanta XD .

Schedule is posted up.

http://www.finalround.org/FRXV/index.cfm

MELTY BLOOD ACTRESS AGAIN CURRENT CODE 1.07 FOR THE PC IS SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY!!!!!!!ONE

Don't treat this as your standard 2-day major and book your flights for late Friday or Saturday otherwise you WILL miss pool play for singles. Larry is usually set on how the schedule turns out and I doubt we'll be able to convince him to swap MB with one of the bigger major tournaments so if you're planning on going and you want to enter MB singles either plan on getting here sometime on Thursday or early Friday before registration.

Don't miss out on the 15th anniversary of Fighting Game Community "SOUTHERN TRADITION" and longest running east coast tournament called FINAL ROUND! With only 5 months until the mayhem starts make sure you plan early to attend this years event! March will be here before you know it people. Get HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Teaser trailer is coming soon!  The problem is unless we get big #'s in the pre reg I can't justify having a tournament game on sat when the majority of the game will have atleast 100-300 or more player players.  With final round being so big now I have to set the dates on what I feel will help the tournament move faster for the greater good of the event as a whole!  I hope people can understand this and still are able to make it out to FR15.

If I see a great amount of people sihn up for MB online then I will move it to sat, but this means people need to pre reg early so I can get a gauge if MB is going to be huge or not.  Running 4 huge tournaments on 1 day is crazy talk.  The good thing that works in you guys favor is that the game will be on pc so if you supply the pc's it won't take up any of our supplies to run other tournament games.

My main thiing is we have to be completed in a timely fashion.  You don't want it to be like other tournaments when they push back MB or don't allow it on the main stage to be streamed like last year?  To be truthful the reason why I continue to have MB at FR is because you guys showed me respect by being on time early in the morning on sunday, so I want to treat you guys good, but I can't mess up the flow of the tournament.  I saw someone say they didn't want to pay $50, but that only happens if you go the lazy route and pay at the door.  Right now paying for a badge is 1/2 price of the door fee.  If you wait to get your badge then it will make your trip more expensive.  I'm excited about FR15 and MB at FR.  If the top korean player is confirmed to come to FR15 and if he can't get here by thursday then I might move it back on sat.  No one wants to win against him if he is jet lagged and he will need that 1st day to rest on friday.  I need to know that he is confirmed 100% and if he can't make it on thursday before I change the date.

Sorry Shinblanka if it came out as if I was complaining. I totally understand it takes a lot of time to get things running, and if thats where you gotta put MB, I got no beef with that. I'm going to try my best to make it out by then but if I can't then sadface.

edit: holy shit I'm a dumb fuck, I got spring break during then, derpppppppppppp, this is why I always liked FR.

edit2: Aw damn, I do have classes during then, BUT I will find a way.

I'll see you all there.

We've done it 2 years straight, so we can damn sure guarantee a 3rd. I'll (or Brandon will) keep you posted on Korean CL's status.

Well keep me updated sir because I need to know what the deal is asap.  We'll have to get the word out so people will know that FR15 will be the spot for MBaacc next year!  By the way how many was at EVO in MB this year?  We need to atleast get that many people at FR15.  If you guys want MBAACC to get serious chance to be in EVO then a big showing at FR15 will help.  With all of the new games being released that KOF13 has a chance to make it if it is big in the scene.  Well if you guys show that you can be as big or bigger than skullgirls/kof13/other new games then that will be a leg up on the other games to be included into EVO.  I don't know if it would work, but if they are thinking about adding more games it wouldn't hurt to show how much the melty blood community has grown over the years!

The early bird special is 1/2 off for your entry badge at FR15 at the door fee, but will only last for a limited time (the end of Oct)! at http://www.finalround.org/FRXV/index.cfm so if you wait to get your badges you'll add more cost to your trip to Final Round!  Take advantage of the deal while it last.(ends at the end of October)

I'll definitely be getting my badge at least by the end of the month at the latest & I'm confident that Current Code can & will easily pull BB/KOFXIII/Skullgirls numbers because SO many people are going to be coming out of the cave it's gonna be ridiculous.

I have a tendency to get overzealous when it comes to getting this damn community hype and usually get burned for my efforts. Despite this, I will leave the moderators with some advice/realtalk as I'm a nice person and all (not really). Whether you choose to actually consider the ideas I have to offer or ignore them, the latter being the standard, is entirely up to you guys. I won't be around to tell anyone "I told you so" should shit outright bomb. And yes, I'm feeling myself right now.

1) Promotional Flyer
Someone with insane or near-insane photoshoppe skills needs to get up on designing a flyer for this. Not for the FR event itself but for the MB tourney and that alone (no offense to ShinBlanka).

Ideas for images to be included:

--Executioner Ciel & Princess Arcuied as these are the new characters being promoted for the upcoming title.
--Crazy/Sexy/Unique fonts that stand out and emphasizes the epicness that is to come several months from now.
--An image of CL (the player) if possible OR a silhouette of CL's image would be cool too (he'd probably appreciate the discreetness of the latter though). If no images can be found of CL or if he's not up to having any form of his image on a flyer then the designer should settle for just an img of Ciel (the character) or find some way to hype up the presence of a foreign, high-status player appearing for this event.
--Mention presence of other nations at this event (once confirmed). Make it a big deal that this may in fact be the first big international event for MB outside of evo2010.
--Flyer should be flexible enough to add in modifications before final print (post flyer on meltybread for feedback)

Now I'm not sure if ShinBlanka is holding another event before FRXV next year but the mods need to get up on finding out asap and speak to someone who can put together a decent flyer to be handed out at this event prior to FRXV. AND even if for some reason flyers cant be handed out sometime before FRXV, someone should submit this flyer to ShinBlanka and request he post it on the FR website. Both handouts and img upload to a site should be implemented imo.

2) Promotion Video
Again, get someone w/ the talent to put something together. Perhaps a compilation of footage of MB events hosted at previous FR's mixed w/ footage of the guest attendant (CL). Or maybe a timeline of sorts, displaying the most ridiculous moments of US mb history then foreshadow the epicness that has yet to come (FRXV of course). We've got 3mths before CC is dropped and this is plenty of time to consort w/ the talent we have in our community who can put something together. Pushing out two trailers for this would be ideal but realistically we should have at least one super-high quality (and original) trailer ready by December-January.

3) International Affairs
Get the word out. Make this a huge fucking deal. If people have to work 3 jobs to fly halfway across the world to make it to the next FR, then so be it. Make them (the international MB scenes) WANT this shit. We have members on meltybread who have MB sites up for their respective countries (ie Brasil, Japan, China and parts of EU iirc). Collaborate w/ them and gauge their interest in an international MB event and if they're for it, have them blow it the fuck up on their site! Six months is ample time to gather up funds to make it out to this but you guys have to act now.

4) Raido Promotions
I'm looking at two ppl right now and you know who you are lol. You dudes have to drop a fucking super nova on this FRXV MB event. Try to set up interviews w/ the MB moderators for the event, maybe even shinblanka, and get them to express their views about the FRXV MBAACC and what they expect from the tourney and the community in the upcoming months. Anyone else who has some stream shit or radio show setup, dont wait for someone else to go in on this. Set up interviews and discussion too!

5) Demonstration Videos post-CC (PC)
I don't know about the rest of you guys but when CC drops, I'm hitting the lab w/ force. I intend to crack this game like eggs and will be documenting every piece of new info I come across. IMO, when the time comes, we should be going in like SRK (sorry, I had to say it) and saturate the fuck out of the home page w/ videos of new findings, setups, tutorials, combo vids, hi-lvl play, streams and whateverthefuckelse type of recorded media we can throw up there. Keep that home pg poppin'.

After reading Komidol's (much appreciated) blog post about the fate of the international scenes, I've come to realize that will always be and have always been on our own with this shit. We need to just do us and stop trying to cater to other fg communities (w/o trying to tear them down in the process). We have the resources, the talent, and the vision. People now are just going to have to wake the fuck up, get up and get theirs because this certainly will not grow on its own. Whether or not we get into EVO next yr. is not an issue atm. We need to grab THIS opportunity by the balls and CRUSH all opposition (pretty picture, aint it?)

This was so motivational I felt the manliness coming from the post & hopefully people stop trolling & get serious cause I want FRXV to blow up for Melty as well not only because GA's my home, but because I wanna feel that hype for Melty like I did in 2010 & I didn't even know what Melty was as being a mere spectator playing SFIV, Brawl, and 3s, that chilling feeling down my spine that really makes me proud to be a person who loves Melty & not just the game, but the bonding that the community has despite how crazy shit can get.

the next nec is going to be the biggest tangible promotion chance for mbcc at FR and evo, in case people haven't noticed.  should work on having a big mb turnout there (not at the expense of not being able to afford going to fr) and finding an impactful way to spread word of the sequel while our numbers attract attention.  a well timed team sp00ky stream announcement or multi-game website press release would probably be most effective.  imo (at first glance) it's a lot more important to PR for more american players to attend both nec and FR than to pay for attendance of a foreign player without name (or even country) recognition in the gaming community (including US melty until recently).  but that's very arguable; having a top asian player over could be played up really hard.  still, imagine being an outsider to our community:
"oh, they've got a top korean player coming to play this game i've never heard of.  wait...korea?  wait, melty blood?  that game with like 30-40 entrants at NEC?"  versus
a well timed announcement and active game advertisement by a big and noticeable NEC turnout.  theoretically, the 700+$ to fly CL over could help 10-20+ extra american/canadian players go to NEC by helping poverty players with venue fees or transport/accommodation.  likewise it could get an extra few to many important poor american players to FR.
ideally, of course, we can have 50+ turnout at NEC, huge turnout at FR, and CL in attendance
also, in regards to zar's PR suggestions: these are great and necessary, though i'm sure the process and execution will prove somewhat bumbling in nature.  we could increase the effect of such efforts by coordinating/timing the radio/press/video/stream announcements and live promotion of mbcc at nec.  in advertising/marketing, there is definitely a proximal reinforcement effect: seeing a bunch of scattered advertisements is less effective than seeing all of them one after the other in a short and high focus period of time.  the ideal time to have information, videos, etc available about the game is when interest is piqued in such a manner.  advertisements also work better with a primer for attention, such as NEC or a popular stream/show.  in summary, we should try to get announcements on streams/radio shows and general fg sites especially, preferably in sync.  that said, the random efforts are still great and overall key.  the most important thing is just to get material out there; the finesse of the process comes second.

also the international hype path is a great idea.  if we could really get this to be a huge tourney with a significant number of participants from EU/Americas/Asia, wow.
of course, on the off chance that mb somehow sneaked into evo lineup, nobody would be able to afford to go :laffo: but evo isn't something that's even plausible enough to be on our consciousness

on a sidenote, i'll be at FR as long as i see enough mb people posting attendance to merit a flight

In all honesty I see ~700$ being at most 3-4 American players (way far off from 10-20.  Plane tickets from like NY to ATL are like 350$ in the cheapest).  Like Evo though, if we really hype up FR I think everyone who physically can will come to FR for the event.  Let's not forget, if we do actually want to be in Evo, FR will be the major stepping stone for that.

Also, I will start mentioning FR to the top JP players I know.  I don't think it's unlikely if we can see to it Korean CL attends, that a Japanese player will come as well.  Furthermore, we did a lot of networking at Hydra GP.  I definitely think at the very least Garu, T.I., and Yoshino have the funds to make it out to something like this and would want to.

The point is to make it an International Tournament that doesn't require the EVO name tag - which means we need to do it ourselves.  Since I beat Korean CL at Hydra GP and meeting LK, the Japanese are more interested in playing Americans as competitive interest now (or, it's more like, they know we exist).

Don't get me wrong, I think NEC is a huge radio focal point for promoting MBCC in the future (as it will be the last PS2 MBAA tournament), but I think it's better to allocate our resources (resources as in, people wanting to donate or for the more poor people who have to choose between one and the other) for FR this year.  If BBGXI/XII/NECX are any indication (as opposed to something like NECXI), earlier tournaments for a game will always be stronger than later tournaments in it's life.

Not to say we shouldn't put our sights on Evo 5 months after FR, or NECXIII 10 months later, but FR can warrant us enough support as a major, and has the clout to make MBCC have a good game lifespan for the next year to come.

Edit: Sp00ky promoting MBCC at NEC is a long shot too, even.  He said he'd be willing to stream MBCC, but only if people are playing it.  Which means rather than rely on Sp00kster to give support for the game from the start, he's more willing to be an amplifier if and only if it gets the support from the start.

Again, it''s all in our hands.  I honestly feel like supporting CL and FR is the right first step to draw support from sources like the JP Community, Sp00ky, and Evo.

I honestly think it's premature to start collecting money for anyone to attend FR at the moment since we don't know the quality of the port yet. Right now it looks like the CC port is at the bottom of the company's agenda with UNIB approaching  and it's highly possible that the port will be sub-par. Not going to say it will be ass, because it might be awesome, but this isn't even a standalone release yet. I don't think we should be flying anyone out to play the mb equivalent of AH2 ps2

I agree but for different reasons.  I think PC MBAACC is a high priority right now, since Unib doesn't come out until spring and the game is already scheduled for release.  Of course, they already did MBAC on PC, so they know the deal.

But like I said originally, I'm going to hold out for donations until the game is released, but that doesn't mean we should in any way stop hyping up the event.  Like Generic said, use NEC as a big communication point (but at the same time in my opinion we shouldn't be taking resources away from FR in order to goto NEC, either).  I think FR should be the goal.

If you guys are hesitant for that, it's going to be hard for me to put my word out for FR with the JP players.  I want to make sure we have a running game plan before I go all over every JP communicae and ask them to come out for FR.

At the same time I can't wait for NECXII to happen to do that, because I'm only staying here until mid-december and it's going to be hard for me to reach as many people as possible during my last week here.

So are we all doing this.  Are we all going to decide to make FR into a big International tournament and bring players out as a community, and really take action to make our game big?

If yes, let's hear it  :toot: :toot: :toot: :toot:

Or are our concerns big enough to risk 3-4 months of promotion until after NECXII and CC's release :slowpoke:

If this is how you people want this to play out, so be it.

All we can do now is make it aware that Final Round is the tournament to be, whether overseas or here in America. Komidol is going to start a body count in JP and anyone in America would have half a brain to PRE-REG NOW BEFORE THE FEE GETS ANY HIGHER that you can't handle the entry fee to make it. I seriously want everyone here, in the south for this occassion.

Brandon, hold off on the show. My laptop shitted on me and it won't hold a charge. It is still under warranty so its getting shipped out. In this time, I'll be planning a show in late November/early December after NEC for FR. I have a show I want to do before then to handle October's quota for Donjon Network. On top of that, I want to start reaching out to CL/Komi/Sp00ky for CC impressions once the port drops in January. You're the one who talks to CL the most so see if he'll want to run that. I'd hate to back out of an interview with Larry so soon, but only if my fucking laptop had behaved properly.

I'm pretty sure EC is gonna blow it up at Winter Brawl and is a very serious destination for the game. I know the time gap between Brawl and FR is pretty short, but it is good advertisement for things to come.

Relating to Final Round setups, this is no different from 2008. We are on our own so I'ma need some serious help in this department. If you have a laptop reliable enough to set this shit up, bring it. I am sure the waiving of fees will apply here as well. Also, granted I have received my taxes on time, I will bring a monitor to present matches on, not to be played on but to view. It will be used as bracket presentation as well to ensure that both home folks and overseas know who they are fighting against and where. We must show Larry once again why we are able to sustain a smooth and on-time tournament that is able to generate hype as well. I would also like to try to grab a little banner from one of Chibi's posters. Maybe.

This is the 4th year that Larry opened the gates for us to show who we are. I don't have to go anywhere with telling you guys how crucial this is to us and Final Round as a whole for maintaining all these years of hype. I have told you many, many times before Larry but I seriously can't tell you more thanks. It's time I've shown you how much this community burns for this game.

And since it's long overdue, I will personally see to it that there is another hype video. There is no excuse this year. None.

Good shit Shinobi.  Seeing as you saw to it the Evo MB teams went smooth in 2010, I completely trust you to network with Larry and know your full itinerary.  I hope you can use this thread (http://www.meltybread.com/forums/melty-blood-auditorium/pc-current-code-tournament-standard/) for your reference, but also things like an extra monitor for displaying the brackets, recording of matches, among other things will all be in your hands.  People are stepping up, and that's good.

Beyond Japan, Korea, and America I think we also need to see Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and possibly even China in on this well.  If you guys can even push to send one player out, do so.  This is the time.

let's from now on abbreviate international players to International Melty Players.

to clarify, i wasn't trying to be negative about FR, but rather offer an alternative to the use of huge resources on a very large risk.  and i meant that 10-20 extra people could attend NEC due to easier access than FR, but it was only to put into perspective what a large amount of resources 700$ is.  once amassed, that's a significant power chip that could be otherwise spent, for sure.  still, i think that if the IMP attendance has a cascade effect on other IMPs, especially japanese, yours is the ideal route.  in addition, though i was thinking of our PR with the gaming community in general (and thus our potential to increase our rapport with non anime players) in the previous post, if i think solely of the hype level and excitement for our community, bringing in new high level players and perhaps more IMPs is the best option for our own entertainment/hype.  though that said, keep in mind that there are some top american players who probably have 0 chance to make it to FR alone but could with 700$.  which is not to say we won't see and respond to additional donation requests as FR approaches.

overall, yeah i'm all for this and you guys are doing all the work so i have nothing to complain about.  your current gung ho attitude is great and i'm sure you'll do the best job to make this happen.  my only concern is that it's a misplacement of an all or nothing attack.  there are complicating factors that may make this event as you picture it physically impossible or a farce despite your best efforts.  one is the quality and availability of the port, as jimmy mentioned.  i'm confident it'll work because otherwise it wouldn't be worth releasing, but if it looks terrible and a subsequent port looks much better, we've needlessly made ourselves and our game look bad.  but more importantly, you're suddenly in your excitement ignoring what was initially recognized as a huge impediment- cost of the port.  even if our impoverished zealots and more affluent players find a way to get their hands on mbcc, all the players in the middle and all the less invested players and potential new players will most likely be blocked out.  Hell, even chibi, mb player from the start, doesn't want to buy 120$ cc.  tonberry doesn't even own 120$, etc!  and again, i'm not discouraging people from buying; i will, and by all means everyone please try!  but the fact is that we'll be extraordinarily lucky if 2/3 our community of regulars has the game by february.

what this means is that interest in the game will be blocked by an even heavier hand than the jp ps2 problem of MBAA; an actual financial problem rather than time commitment problem.  so what does THAT mean?
-it means that our general level of play at FR will be at a low standard (depending on how different cc is from aa), perhaps as low as the first mbaa NEC.  obviously, this doesn't dampen hype, but we look worse on stream (maybe half of our top tier will be adjusted) and it makes us look worse to the foreign players.  top players aside, a lot of players will probably be even more maladjusted.
-it means that even after the explosive hype of FR, anyone only reasonably interested in mbcc is going to wait for a standalone release which is unscheduled, and many of those people could lose interest by the time it comes out.  netplay i think is one of our strongest tools for spreading the game, and that won't be working properly yet either.
-most importantly, this probably means that all those sort of fringe players who came out to evo and nec for melty but aren't really that into the community won't bother to buy the game and therefore will probably be discouraged from flying to play a game that they don't know how to play.

there's also the additional variable of whether the tourney will be held on friday or saturday.  all of these little problems that the melty zealots are going to overcome are going to be solid deterrents for the lower interest level potential melty players.  that deflates our numbers and thereby our spectacle factor for the tournament and our future growth potential in comparison to a better situation that would likely be possible in the future.

which brings me to my general point that there are a lot of unknowns in this risk.  And for god's sake yes, i'd rather we bring in CL and have a 40 man tourney at FR than just not have shit because it'd be more fun for me.  but right now, on this thread, on the MBCC purchase discussion thread, and in general we haven't even confirmed domestic support at the event.  we don't even know if a substantial number of people outside our zealot base of perhaps 30-40 are even intending to attend.  even those zealots mostly haven't posted in this thread yet.  and (i'm not saying it's dumb, just odd looking) yet we're skipping ahead to the final step and taking the risk to elevate an event of mysterious potential to our explosive international debut.  and i understand, we're relying on our conviction and hard work to fill in all the blanks and get us to that point; you guys are filling in that last step early because it takes the most preparation and assuming you'll be able to solve all the more trivial problems along the way/hope they work out.  the trivial details just happen to be a bigger deal than usual this time.  if i was negative and conservative i'd say it's a better idea to let variables outside of our control work themselves out, improve our skill level in cc, have a good showing at FR, and then really push the resources (which would be greater by then as well) towards an NEC explosion with a standalone, hopefully netplayable version of cc out.  it's true that there's more hype when a game first comes out, but in this case it's more like "the game preview alongside a super weeaboo anime" is coming out.  it's unlikely that delaying the big deal is going to destroy cc's chances at being big.  last year's evo is proof of that if anything; we thought MBAA's potential was done after NEC, the big debut major, but as soon as a big deal IMP tournament showed up everyone was remotivated.  and yeah, i know that FR is before EVO and it's a chance for us to get into evo.  i won't even comment on that because it's so perfectly unpredictable but the reward is so huge that everything would be worth it.

and to disclaim again and not sound like an asshole trying to put off FR or sabotage in favor NEC, i want FR to be big and i'd love to go down for my first FR (they've always been scheduled impossibly til this year for me) and perhaps last FG major in the forseeable future (i probably wouldn't even be able to attend the next NEC) and have a lifetime memorable blast.  and i know that you guys are going to go on with this despite anything i say, which is why i believe that it may even work.  that's also why i debated even posting something somewhat negative since it's not going to stop you and at worst may hurt the cause.  but i think everyone should just be aware of these factors because if you DO do this, it'll work better if people know what the problem is to overcome it.

and in regards to my marketing suggestions, i more or less just meant we should try to get the sequel/tourney announced on sites like IPWinners and have sp00ky just mention it in a few sentences during the NEC stream (for our finals or something).  having big NEC numbers would help justify other FG websites doing an expose on MBCC just like they did for MBAA

I'm not really going to touch on the potential setbacks because I think Generic already did a good job doing that. Most of the potential setbacks at this point and time are stuff that are way out of our control. Price of the port, quality of the port, stuff like that. Right now the absolute WORST CASE SCENARIO is that the PC port ends up being AH2 PS2 bad...but they have done this before with MBAC so I don't think it'll be THAT bad. We'll just have to deal with however much the port cost when the time comes. I know there's going to be people who will support FB and ECOLE and buy the actual game, but for the majority, it won't be a matter of if it will be available through other means. It'll be a matter of when.

What we can start doing (and what I think we're doing a fine job at) is promoting this, and future major events. It's not just enough to just get hype and have a very strong following for FR / NEC / EVO. We have to promote and hype up the tournaments we really haven't shown a strong following in the past and up and coming newer majors such as ECT, MWC, SB VI, CEO 2012, etc. It doesn't look to have a great following for 1 or 2 specific majors and then have a less than steller following for the other majors. Although I can sort of understand that happening since Larry and Big Eric have been the two T.Os to show such love and support for the MB scene in the past, but I assure you that if we show up with the same hype we do for those majors then the other T.Os give us the same support.

Reason why I pitched the ideal of bringing CL to Final Round so early is to get the ball rolling NOW as opposed to waiting until we only have 1-2 months to raise $700+ and it'll be a lesser hassle to raise that money when we have 5 months to do so. I'm also aware that Winter Brawl will be happening before Final Round, but I chose FR because I know it's a bigger major that brings in more players from across the US as opposed to WB which AFAIK usually brings in the Northeastern players and is more so looked at as a regional as opposed to a major. It's not to draw away any hype from WB if for one reason or another it was looking like that.

Reason why I recommended CL personally was because I know he's always wanted to attend a US major and believe me, if MBAACC PC was being released in a practical time before NEC I would've done the same thing for NEC. Like Komidol said in the donation thread, CL has long been considered one of the best Korean players and has been a long time MB player so it's not like we're pitching in for a random no-name.

With all that said, only thing left to do now is to continue brainstorming on how to make this event one of the biggest events yet and deal with whatever setbacks we have when the time comes.

And yes Shinobi, we NEED a hype video for this Final Round.

I personally don't want people choosing between nec or FR. :-X  Those are the 2 major tournaments for MB period.  The tradition is there so don't kill that.  There's always risk in anouncing new games.  I took a risk on putting the new MB in the official tournaments of FR15 without seeing if the game is good or if the people will play it at all.  I did the same with KOF13 because every community needs that support to grow.  Life is about risk imo.  The bigger the risk the higher the reward imo.  If the port is ass should I remove it from te tournament?  I wouldn't do that unless the players wouldn't want to play it at all.  I love the passion and resolve you guys are posting with.  I would say 1 thing though.  If you wait to get the process going on flying a ITP to FR15 then you'll run the risk of the flight getting higher in price.  I've flown out Nin and Knee from korea, so I know how the price of flights can jump up in 1 week.  When you get the hype vid ready please get it to me so I can put it up on the finalround website.  I have 1 request.  Profanity needs to be at a minimum as i'm trying to market FR to potential sponsors.  Thanks for the support fella's!  FR is only 5 months away!  The early bird special ends at the end of THIS MONTH!

Well, this tournament is quite sometime from now, but I would like to offer my support... its not much but since I most likely can't go.
I can donate some money to help get people there as long as there's a stream to watch :D

No really, if it helps the community and gets people to the tournament then yeah for sure.
I'd just like to see how the port's going to be, and how easy it will be able to get before doing anything quickly.

Anyone know how to get from ATL int. airport to the venue? The airport is clear on the other side of the city. Should I take a train, taxi, bus, or rent a car?
I can't find flights to the closer, and smaller, airport PDK (DeKalb-Peachtree).

we all got an idea on IRC that we could sell shirts at FR (I hope Larry doesn't mind)

Dunno yet what to put on the shirt, something mbread+fr/melty+fr related (then we gotta figure out if theres any legal issues with that)

Idea was basically just to sell shirts for exposure for the game at FR, and do SHIRT MATCHES, where the winner gets a shirt for free, and the loser has to pay for one but gets a shirt anyways. Debating on what to do with profits, either just selling the shirts straight priced or just putting profit into FR pot for mb.

just an idea

Idea was basically just to sell shirts for exposure for the game at FR, and do SHIRT MATCHES, where the winner gets a shirt for free, and the loser has to pay for one but gets a shirt anyways. Debating on what to do with profits, either just selling the shirts straight priced or just putting profit into FR pot for mb.

just an idea
Alright guys, following along with what ehrik "lowspeed"  ehrikson said here, what I want posted is ideas for a design on shirts for FR. The more input we have, the more we can work with and be flexible. In fact, I'll start, how about one with the carnival phantasm ED picture with all the characters with the logo on the bottom? Sounds kinda gdlk to me. So share your ideas, express that style, and generate that hype. You've got the floor community, hit FR with your best shot.

3v3 Pokemon single elim or 2v2 Waseda single elim, just like Mikado. It would be a nice gesture to the incoming international force. It's fast, and would give us a fun time on the tourney floor. I'm sure you people just want to rush down casuals on Friday.

I can't express how fucking hype I am now that Larry made that announcement. Someone just do it for me lol.

That's how I roll sir. :teach: 3v3 is fine on friday as long as it ends on friday.  Single elim is the format for all team joints at FR15.  even the grand finals and losers finals.  Your 2nd and 3rd chance is your team mates chance.  :teach:

Ever since I got my recording equipment, I've been working on an AMV using, pretty much exclusively, MB footage that I've recorded. Even if you guys don't use it for anything, I am planning on putting Final Round and CC promotions in it.
I was wondering if I could have permission to use the Final Round logo that's on the homepage of the Final Round site: www.finalround.org (http://www.finalround.org). The image in question is also attached to this post.
Planning on having it done by the end of Dec. before CC is released.

With the new year upon us there is only 60 DAYS until FINAL ROUND 15! Make sure you pre register for badges and games at http://www.finalround.org/FRXV/index.cfm  and reserve your room under the Final Round group rate at https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/booking/reservation?id=1109065066&key=7A7BA

FINAL ROUND 15 will be here before you know it people!  Pre registering online is the only way you will assure yourself proper placement in the brackets away from people you normally play against.  If you walk up at the door on friday to register you will be place in the next availible spot.  If that spot is against your hommie that you traveled with then oh well.

(players will be placed/seperated in the brackets by area "State/City", and Skill level "Last years placing at FR and other tournaments rankings" when they pre reg online)

The main reason we have the online pre-register option is to get as many people prepaid, so we can make the brackets 2 days prior to the event.  With brackets already made this allows us to start the event ON TIME instead of 2-3 hours late!  The most reason any tournament starts late is because of the at the door/event registration and making brackets after the majority of people have signed up at the event instead of online.  Please help us make FINAL ROUND run as smoothly as possible by pre-registering online.  It's also cheaper to pre reg online than pay at the door/event registration, so it's just better for you as the gamer to pre-reg online if you know you are attending FR15!

As with most Final Round tournaments, there are always special events. In conjunction with the hype video, there should be a special event with the community where skill, hype, and community are being displayed in high volume.

I have 2 events that we can look to be doing at Final Round. Only one will be chosen due to ensuring everyone's time is made enjoying the tournaments and running casuals:

1) Character matches. Put about 10-15 good players names with character variety in a hat and play a 3/5 match. Sort of the like the old GG Gamechariot character matches.

2) Red vs. White. Get all the who's who in American Melty and just have a hype ass team battle.

ALSO, I need a setup count for Larry. Post here if you are bringing a desktop, laptop, or monitor.

Rayza notified me of 3 setups MD will be bringing. Seven setups ought to be enough to do what we need to do. I am closing down setup invitations now. If the aforementioned cannot make FR for any reason, I will consider setups then.

To double check w/ Larry, the waiver for bringing setups to Final Round tournaments still applies this year right?

Unless we get over 256 players in the melty tournament the max of 6 set up's will be needed.

Hi, I'm not sure if this was mentioned already and sorry if it was (I skimmed through the thread and checked the site too) but do you guys know the best way to get from ATL airport to the hotel? I google mapped it and it seemed kinda far....I'd like to avoid taking a cab but if necessary, do you know an estimate of how much? X (

Hey man the easiest way to geto the hotel from the airport is to take the local transit system.  Our train is called MARTA.  It cost $2.50 to ride and there is a station with a train at the airport that will take you to the hotel.  Check out the following website for location of stations and where you have to goto.

http://www.itsmarta.com/ns-med-overview.aspx   this is for the medical center and it's the closer out of the 2 stations.  The shortest to walk from if you can't get a shuttle.

http://www.itsmarta.com/ns-dun-overview.aspx

This is a spot for a major atlanta mall so you might get distracted by the ATL females on the train and going towards the mall.

There are 2 MARTA stations within a mile of the event hotel and you can call the hotel shuttle to pick you up from the train station if you have a room booked under the Final Round group rate.  I hope this helps you out sir.

Also I have another annoument to make:

I don't know who is staying at the hotel during FINAL ROUND XV or not but just to let you guys know if you haven't got your rooms at the hotel you better get them quickly because there's ONLY 28% of the rooms left under the FRXV group rate! ($93 per night)  Anything after that and I can't promise I can get more rooms released under that rate since this is a new hotel i'm in this year!  With only 36 days until the event, 25 days for online registration is closed, and only 22 days to get your rooms at the FR group rate.  Here's the link to the onlin reg and the hotel room reservations:

Online registration:

http://www.finalround.org/FRXV/registration.cfm

Hotel reservation:

https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/booking/reservation?id=1109065066&key=7A7BA

FRXV will be here before you know it people!  I HAVE SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH to reveal in the next few days for this event!  Keep your eyes peeled for the newest official promotional trailer for FRXV!  Get hyped because The 15th Anniversay is shaping up to be an event not to miss!

As of right now we are SOLD OUT of the rooms I had within my group block. I have contacted the hotel to try to get some more rooms released before our purposed deadline of Feb 16, 2012. I will update you on how many rooms are released or IF they are released under the Final Round group rate as soon as I find out. Here's a link to the site with the normal pricing:

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1022

and here is the Final Round group rate link:

https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/booking/reservation?id=1109065066&key=7A7BA

There's only 19 days left for online registration! You don't want to be that person that has to stand in that long line of people that didn't pre pay online. Trust me that line SUCKS! Here's the link to register for FRXV:

1: at the door registration

2: team tournament running late.

lets eliminate the big lines at the door for registration please people.

If and when there is something to be told, we will tell you guys.  A significant amount of effort is being put in by a small group of us internationally affiliated, and until there is confirmation of a player coming, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, or otherwise, the rest is just rumors (sorry to say).

Larry, I'm working very closely with Ben on this, so when there is something to know you will be informed as soon as possible.  Don't worry about that.

Black Magic is currently being wielded. If you have love you can already see it.

The forbidden language has been spoken.

What will you do?

What can you do?

Anything?

I am here to help.

But only so much can be done.

The powers of the east are drawn by your challenge.

Conserve your mana and resources.

The ritual is almost complete.

I will unlock the power years old, but the final summoning can only been done through everyone's power.

MBAACC FRXV: AMERICA v JAPAN

:prinny: Japanese players Garu (H-Kohaku/H-Tohno/H-Arc) and Chelsea (C-Arc) will be attending Final Round XV.  Their plane arrives on the 2nd of March, at 3PM.  Garu has won several Japanese tournaments, most famous for his performance in MBAA and Aqua Pazza.  You may also remember him as the EVO2010 champion of MBAA PS2. :prinny:

In accordance with what Larry (ShinBlanka) said, you will need to pre-register online in order to participate at the venue for any tournament (short of an early Friday morning at-door registration).

Tournament entries are 10$ each in addition to your online venue of 35$.

Friday night, March 2nd, will be MBAACC Teams.  This tournament begins at 7PM.  Obviously you should expect to arrive in Atlanta by 3pm if you want to participate and you're coming via plane.

MBAACC Singles will begin at 11AM on Saturday, the morning of March 3rd.

MBAACC Top 8 will take place on Sunday, March 4th, at 9AM.  After other game's Top 8 finish we will probably run a large Red vs White, perhaps a 50v50, dodge-ball style.

Please plan accordingly.

Hare, KoreanCL, and GO1 have respectfully declined the attendance partially due to work, despite wanting to attend.  There are also many other players who considered it, unfortunately they couldn't justify taking off work, spending the money, and going the distance for the event.  Needless to say, these players who expressed interest in going to America for this event will look to FRXV as a symbol to judge if it's worth going in the future.

Japan is looking with wide eyes at this event, and if we want them to come in the future (to NEC or otherwise), I would strongly hope we can produce a registrant list exceeding 128 participants.  A registrant list falling short of 96 participants would be atrocious for the public image of the community.  If you really love this game, you need to attend Final Round for it's future.  For those of you short on money, I extend my regrets - however, tax season is this month and if you file now you may get the few hundred dollars you need to get out here and play, especially if you're in a lower tax bracket.  If you're under the age of 24 and in college, and file as a dependent, your parents will get a large stipend.  Larry did his best to schedule this event during many school's spring breaks for the younger community.  This community is very helpful and you can carpool, or network with hotels in this thread.  Just know that you have only just over a week to pre-register for Final Round unless you plan on paying Friday morning, and just under a month to make all your preparations.  Everyone who financially and physically can go to this event, goes.  There shouldn't be any question here.

I would like to thank everyone who is making this a possibility both for the event and internationally.  SilentShinobi will also be organizing the tournament on the ground as he always has for Final Round to make sure it is run smoothly, and we trust him to do so per his great handling of organizing the Team Tournament at EVO2010, and Pool 3 of Singles that year (with our founder Arlieth).  He has purchased a large monitor to display matches and the brackets every so often so everyone knows where they need to be during the event.  Brandino has done a good job promoting this event with DonJon.  Kamina did excellent work with the videos.  Zar has done good work with posting Melty Blood media in both Japanese and English.  KoreanCL helped us in social networks we could not access and promoted enthusiasm for the event and kept us informed.  LK and TeamSt1ckbug have come to Japan and promoted the game more times than I can count.  Many thanks to Rayza and MD/VA for offering to make sure this event is recorded, and streamed properly.  Even further, more than one Japanese speaker, regardless of level of Japanese, gave us presence within the Japanese community (Dakanya, Curbeh, Yuji, and Kamina just to name a few).  And one last thanks to everyone who posted and helped in the international threads and voiced their opinions, or even gave out a simple tweet out on twitter.

This is the first major for MBAACC, make it hype.  We want to build a strong foundation for this game's lifespan.  A failure here would be detrimental to the development of the game in America.  We have to be louder than a few thousand capcom players.  I think everyone of our members can outnumber ten of theirs, so - let's create the first 256-man Melty Bracket ever and show, Ecole, EVO Staff, TeamSp00ky, and whoever else that this is a major game in America.  That means that every single person who netplayed for MBAC, Tsukihime, or wherever they come from needs a reason to goto this event.  Make videos.  Post everyday on Twitter.  Talk to your local fighting game scenes.  Make physical advertisements and flyers at your locals.  A lot of new faces to tournament organization stepped up and strained their resources to get this far.

This tournament now has everything that a major needs to be successful, run well, and be fun.  It has huge monitors for information, competent staff, a dedicated space, completely stable streaming and recording, and is getting an official supported live-stream slot on Sunday morning.  But this is just a gateway.  It starts with everyone who has ever supported this game buying their plane ticket, registering, and only gets underway when every single one of those people guarantees one person who didn't go to EVO goes to their event - and good or bad - every melty community around the globe, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, European, Brazilian, American, or otherwise is going to see the results.

tl;dr Don't fuck this up and be there.

Oh, and let's not lose this Evo2010 runback, either.

Just a general appeal to anyone who's on the fence or think it's too late to go:

This tournament is going to be beyond what EVO2K10 had to offer.  We have everything that tournament had and  :toot:MORE :toot:!! Just because this tournament is not named "Evolution", doesn't mean it's not worth pulling every single thread to get yourself over there, because this has the potential to be way more than Evo2k10 ever was.   People were talking about "well forget Evo let's have our own major for anime games", and recently we got shafted for stream time at NECXII, right?  Well, this is it!

This is the last chance to begin a process of making Melty Blood a major game in America.  Because of the HydraGP report we now have even Ecole looking at us.

This will not just be another tournament. This will be the ground work for showing other anime-game communities what it takes to have your game heard.

We're going to be able to save every match, we're going to get more respect and the space we want, and we have all the best competition coming.

I'm going to push, if this tournament is not substantial, we will lose all clout with the International community, and no player will likely come here ever again for this game.  How could you even ask them to?  Do not make the mistake BlazBlue did. (Aksys puts in a few hundred dollar pot and only 38 people show up.)  This is your big chance to make Melty a big show in America.

We did it at Evo, but followed up poorly.  Part of that was the conditions the game was under at the time, which no longer exist.  At EVO we said "this is going to be the big climax of melty" and when thousands of people saw those matches and got interested, the game fell silent for months.  Now we have the right conditions - this is a new release, a new game, and the one chance to make one beautiful golden step to pushing melty up as  a major game in the tournament community.

The point I'm trying to make is those people who didn't plan on going to FR, you have just under a full month to get things going now.  If not for the Japanese players, if not for the fact it's a major, if not for the fact all of the best competition will be present, than because you will have a ton of a fun and this will be the first MBAACC major in history.  You will not get this chance again.  For MBAA PS2, we had numbers of around 30-35 at BBG.  Now the community is bigger, we have Japanese players travelling 6200 miles to play, a huge pot, the space and attention we need to make it big - and we're going to produce the same numbers?  Let's see 5x the amount, atleast.

And that starts with the big community members getting in that shit before they can tell other players why "this will be the best tournament ever and you should go."  Which is what we ALL need to be doing right now.  HYPE MAX!  No arguments, no defensive "Well I'm a student/poorfag/whatever" arguments here, that will only lay a pavement for mediocrity of the event.  Even if you can't go in the end - make sure you do every last seething bit humanely possible to make sure people know about this event and it's attraction.

This is worth flying from Canada for; this is worth flying from California for; this is worth the 10+ hour drive from Philly or Houston or wherever.  In the end if you can't go yourself, convincing 2-3 other people to go will do the community a whole bunch of good too!!  :toot: :toot:

Sorry It would cost me roughly $500 to get down to Atlanta to go to Final Round, and that I need that money to go to school in the summer. Sorry for putting my education in front of Melty Blood.

OK this is GREAT FREAKING NEWS!  I wish I could have put this on the HYPE TRAILER I JUST HAD MADE!!!! but of well i'm not going to cry over the little details.  I agree that this is the platform you guys wanted to PROVE your game is a major worthy game throughout the fgc and not just at NEC or FR events.  I would love to see 128+ players in melty!  Only you guys can make that happen.  I know it's last minute and with FRXV only 3 WEEKS AWAY makes the process of starting to save for FRXV even harder, but if you love this game and have a chance to attend then please do.  School always comes 1st in my book!

also the banwith I have for stream will ONLY ALLOW FOR 2 STREAMS!  MK community are buying a 4g hot spot to stream wireless in the ballroom so that's why they will have their own dedicated stream.  Also all footage will be record by my people as we will get the footage out in a timely manner.  Any stream or recording at FRXV has to be approved by me for any streamed materials.  I planned to have melty on the stream during sat also, but that on a time based issue.  Other than that i'm very excited to hear this news for Melty at FRXV!

sounds good to me.  There's only 6 days until the Final Round group rate of $93 per night is gone!  There are more rooms available at the event hotel at the FINAL ROUND XV Group rate of $93 per night even though we have sold out of the original amount of rooms nights available for our group.  At this moment they only have king size rooms available!  Do not use the online service anymore as this seems to be the main problem with people booking rooms for FRXV. Please call the following number and reserve your rooms for FRXV:

Deanna Judkins : Sales Manager at The Westin

Please call between 9am-4pm est Monday--Friday to reserve your room.

If anyone has be told over the phone that the rooms for the Final Round group rate are sold out and was forced to reserve a room at another rate then please notify me and call Mrs. Judkins to get your reservation corrected. Thank you for your support and there's only 6 days until the FRXV group room rate is gone.  YOU ONLY HAVE 9 DAYS LEFT TO REGISTER ONLINE FOR FINAL ROUND XV!  To register online please goto http://www.finalround.org/FRXV/registration.cfm

How are the brackets going to work? I don't think anyone wants to fight their local buddies first match.

This depends on if you register online or not.  If you register online we will do our best to seperate players by region or click/teams, but if you show up at the door and register you will be placed in the bracket were you fit.  Of course we aren't going to purposely put you up against your friend in the 1st round, but you run the risk of having to play against them if you and your friend don't register online.  The only way you can make sure we will seperate you from the people in your area is that you register online.  If you register at the door you will be just another name to put in the brackets/pools, but if you register online we will put you in the system according to all of the info you give us.  Also you need to make sure you put your location when registering online.

The key to making the brackets/pools is to get the majority of the players to sign up online so we can have the majority of the pools/brackets done by thursday evening.  On friday during at the door registration we will just add people in the 1st available spot in the pool/brackets.  If you don't register online you will have no one but yourself to blame if you have to play against someone you always play against within the 1st 3 rounds!  So I advise everyone that KNOW they are coming to FRXV to online register!  Who wants to come a major and play their friend in the 1st 3 rounds?  I know I wouldn't but that's not up to me.

I do my best to allocate the brackets according to region but like Larry said, it is imperative that you register early.

Oh btw Larry (and you may tell me this at the meeting Sunday), but are my people w/ setups able to get waived on the badges? If they are, do they just have to register for the games alone?

I have one question:  I play on PS2 pad/SIXAXIS/etc (whatever the PC I'm playing on at the time is compatible with), but I don't have a PC converter.  Would I be fine bringing my SIXAXIS or would someone be there to provide a converter?

Can we get a running room count and list people who have room (whether or not you have space)?  I can continuously edit this post.  Some people sounded off, but I would like to have a collective and organized list going in.  This should sort of be regardless of if you plan on having people over, what the individual rules will be.  Just who you have to talk to about the room and who might be there.

I can start us off, this is what I heard or expect from previous tournaments, correct me if I'm wrong.

Hollywood Sp00ky giving a shit about MB when he has reality shows to produce? Bell and myself rooming together (unless you want a double homicide to happen)?

I've also heard some bad things about FR with regards to MB, but I'm going to just passively-aggressively mention it since I'm not exactly clear on it... other than the fact that if you are going to FR you need to pre-register; ShinBlanka keeps posting this for a reason other than his own well-being (although it does help that too).

Hmm... Who's coordinating teams on friday?

Shinobi is, of course.  I put the list of times when all the tournaments are starting in my Garu/Chelsea announcement post.  This tournament is being organized very well.

Which is sort've why I wanted you to correct me if I'm wrong, rather than just saying it's wrong.  Like I said in the beginning, too, this isn't necessairly a "Who to goto if you need a room" post, this is just for where MB is going to played.  Considering Generic is coming to FR, I would assume in Team St1ckbug's room they might have one MB setup for people to play MB.  I would also assume Malik and Bellreisa does too.  These are assumptions, which is why I wanted people to tell me what's up.  Dippy, it's fine if the thread is completely disorganized, because that means the event will be more organized.  That's the point of doing all this stuff.

So can people tell us where our boy's are at or no?

I think it may be possible, if this community is as helpful/gentlemenly as everyone says it is, we can split you guys all up into one room a piece - but that right is exclusively reserved by the people who have paid for the rooms.

That being said though you guys are contributing a lot of the equipment and have a full group, so you need to for the love of god should get a room yourselves.  Any other alternative involves you guys just paying someone between the group of you for the full room which is something you could just organize amongst yourselves more easily.  Like Generic said, except that Friday Night and Saturday Night would be 120$ each, which again shouldn't be a problem between the entire region.  That's at most 30$ a person per night in a luxury hotel, if you only have 4 people (don't you usually have 5 or 6?)

The problem is, I'm the only one with a credit card. I won't have enough on there to put the hotel up because I'm also paying for my school tuition... Will go over the max. And I would rather have more than 4 people per room to split the cost more. #ecpoverty

I'm pretty sure that Pfhor posted in here somewhere, but I have a room. I don't think it's full right now, but you should ask Pfhor about it. He's kinda keeping track of who is staying in it. I can say that right now, it's 3 of us from DFW. But check with Pfhor. I can prolly hold at most 8 ppl. with floor space.

TexasTim proving once again he is the most baller member of this community.  If Tim only has space for the 3 of you, we can pick up one person in another room.  Maybe even mine, depending on who shows up the day of the event.

In accordance with the timeframes I posted earlier the latest you want to arrive (if you pre-registered, if you didn't and don't plan on doing so you need to come early Friday morning) is 3PM or so you can play in MB Teams that night, and leave late afternoon Sunday if you want to get back for work or class Monday.

So I'm actually living in Augusta right now, but I cannot take leave / get off for this because I work weekends.

Fuck my life.

Someone say hi to Chelsea and Garu for me, even though they won't remember who the hell I am.

The problem is, I'm the only one with a credit card. I won't have enough on there to put the hotel up because I'm also paying for my school tuition... Will go over the max. And I would rather have more than 4 people per room to split the cost more. #ecpoverty
If worst comes to worst, you can use my card if you get me a list of everyone there I eventually get paid back for this shit.

Nah don't worry, I think we got this.

Also I wouldn't do that anyway, I let someone use my card once and didn't get paid back, I just think it's a bad idea overall since I don't see you face to face :/

This is so hilariously wrong I'm still laughing reading this list.

1)  I would like to know ALL issues people have with Final Round good or bad.  How can I improve on the tournament if people won't tell me when we are fucking up?  I'm willing to listen to complaints as well as praise.

2)  Online registering is for my benefit to make this event run as smoothly as possible.  Registering at the door is not a right, it's bonus and it usually delays the start of the event.  This will be the last time I offer at the door sign up's because I want to start the event on time.  Just to give you an example of last year at FRXIV we had 180 in ssf4 and mvc3 sign up online.  So with that information we made pools based on those players that online reg.  On friday+sat we had 140+ added to both events.  So of course we had to throw those damn brackets/pools away in the trash because we had to re-seed players on the fly which is a cluster fuck in itself.

This year I want to make the pools/brackets in advance so people can know when they get to the event that pools/brackets can be posted when you walk in the event ballroom on friday march 2, 2012 morning.  This will help us properly seed and seperate players/regions in the brackets/pools.  All of this is to the benefit of the people competing in the event more than it is for me.

likewise with $NJ$ room; serious ballin/sleeping room.  everyone who is just now trying to arrange a room: you are dumb but lucky that shinblanka got an infinite discount deal.  just book another room; 120$ between 4 people is no big deal and you all get bedspace.

generic btw
Hey man The Final Round Group rate is $93 per night.  It shouldn't be $120 per night!

I was actually musing to myself recently it would be nice if I could write an article for IPlayWinner about what it was like to work with Japan and what Japanese players wanted to see by coming to an American tournament.

Can anyone hook me up with a contact they have there?  PM me.

Also, I think we could get some extra entrants from cross-gaming if we get an SRK post.  If SRK knows that Garu and Chelsea are coming, maybe those players will sign up for MB also.  Even if it's 2 or 3 more entrants it's worth it to try and get them to put it up now, before entry closes this weekend, right?

Do your best guys.  I have not the slightest idea as to how we can scratch that surface.

All i'm going to say is then online registration for this event is looking small.  :-\ :psyduck: :mystery:  I guess it was too late to get people to come to FRXV.  Maybe if the japanese attend another year you guys can properly plan, but as of right now we would only need 2 maybe 3 set up's to complete the singles melty tournament in 2 hours.  There's only 25 people sign up for melty at FRXV as of last night at 1:25am est.  I don't know whatelse to say.  There are some people IN YOUR SCENE that put a lot of effort getting these top players to FRXV.

I hope people understand that this will be the reflection of the USA melty community around the world!  I will stil have melty at FR, but i'm feeling bad for those that put all of this effort into getting these players to FRXV.  It still will be a great event without huge #'s, but I thought this was suppose to be a community out cry to be seen and heard throughout the FGC.  I hope everyone that can attend FRXV will attend but I know times are rough!  Either way make sure you guys make it to WINTER BRAWL6 this weekend and support the events that have support your scene for years!  You guys support us so we support you guys!

Everyone knows that people are going to register at the door despite online registration being available to them & I'm going to sign up at the door because on the website my username is still "dumba989" & that is no longer my tag, however IF my tag can be changed to what I want it to be then I will register online & that's how it always works, if you give people the option to pay at the door, they they will because to them there is no incentive for paying for your games online even though this gives Organizers a hell of an easier time.

I don't want anyone to get upset over the pre-registration number right now.  We can yell at each other after - what we have to do now is really at-least double that number just to make the tournament as fun as we would expect a major to be and enjoy ourselves.

Of all my "Worst Case Scenario" predictions, I never imagined with the amount of planning and hype going into this major for the last 3-5 months that the numbers would be below last years attendance when the game was slow and dieing.

Full effort now guys.  We really need to break 50 here.  Let's at least make this fun for Garu and Chelsea.  I think they can appreciate something smaller like this, just not...:that small:

I really wanna see our best and most friendly players out for the event.  Most Mikado locals draw 35 people.  Just...come on guys.   :'(

Yeah, I've done this last year or the year before. My new account was deleted for being a duplicate account. The Tag/Nickname info on the registration page should be made editable, and not automatically be set to the username for the account.
Regardless of that, I registered like back in October. I've never had a problem with just asking the TOs to change it when they get the bracket.

Question: Is there any etiquette surrounding the level of play expected in an event like this?

Having played MBAA for less than three months, and really fighting games in general for probably less than six total, would it even be worth registering for the tournament? I am interested in attending, but it would be my first proper event and I have no idea about these things. Is having cannon fodder for the first rounds a good thing, or is quality valued enough over quantity that someone like myself should not waste the time needed for the matches? :psyduck:

I think you should come out. It's never a waste to have someone come out to an event if they genuinely want to play.

Regardless of your skill level or anything else, these events are fun and you can see a good deal of high level play if you come out. You can also talk and play with other more seasoned players and get tips and other stuff.

If you're in town and you have the funds to come out, you definitely should in my opinion!

The best way of getting better is by coming to the events and playing everyone.

If it's possible for you to show, DO IT!

Every person who enters a tournament contributes to the game's community.  Even if a tourney is free-entry, having more players is always better.  A game starts to die when the only people who enter at tournaments are good players.

In addition, tournament matches are always a great experience, and I encourage you to play as many as you can.  The fact that there's something on the line makes them completely different from casual matches.  When you lose, you experience the fighting style of a better player, and you can learn a lot from it that you'd never have learned on your own.  And you remember it a lot better because there was something on the line.  When you win, the feeling is fantastic.

One more thing:  make sure you play as many casuals as possible, too!  Doesn't matter how much experience you have, or how good the other players are:  go up to a casual station and ask if you can play next.  First time I went to the US for a tournament, I didn't play any casuals 'cause I thought I was too scrubby and would waste the other players' time.  I really regretted that afterwards, so don't make the same mistake I did!

Really glad to see everyone in high spirits despite a few set-backs.  We should see a lot more hype for this after Winter Brawl, both from the shift in focus to FRXV and (hopefully) from a few new converts who'll get to see the game and the community in action this weekend.

I'll be in town Thursday night if anybody wants to get some matches in.  I'd also like to enter teams on Friday, so if anybody else is down to team up let me know.

Don't know if this has been brought up but whenever the winner of a match wins, only the loser should have the choice to hit confirm or character select because people get caught up mashing confirm (winners too) and the loser may have wanted to change character or take some time to think about the match, just my two cents & something I've noticed so far.

We are extending the online registration for FINAL ROUND XV until Feb 24, 2012.  Please goto the link below to register online:

http://www.finalround.org/FRXV/registration.cfm

This will help us set the brackets earlier and properly seed players that are attending from around the world!  If you do not register online you will not be seeded in any form or fashion!  That means you won't be seeded away from players from your TEAM MEMBERS, CITY, or STATE.   Nor will you be seeded on skill level through your wins in the tournament scene.

Please help US at FINAL ROUND make this event run the smoothest it has ever ran before by registering online for your badge/games.  If not then enjoy the long line of doom on friday.  If you can't make it to the door registration on friday March 2, 2012, before 12 noon you will not beable to sign up for any tournament games during this years event.

Make sure you tune in to all 3 streams that weekend:

Team Spooky -  http://www.twitch.tv/teamsp00ky
FunkyP-  http://www.twitch.tv/funkyp
and MK9 stream- - TO be announced once they give me the url.

I hope to see everyone that can make it out will make it out to the 15TH ANNINVERSARY of The Fighting Game Community Southern Tradition called "FINAL ROUND"!  THERE'S ONLY 11 DAYS 9 HOURS AND 38 MINUTES UNTIL FRXV!  This will be the biggest FR ever!

There is NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED in the MAIN BALLROOM! Also there is a no open container policy in the hotel so you can't be walking around the hotel with a cup of your favorite beverage in the hotel. This is not a casino people! You may drink in your room or at the bar in the hotel, but there can't be people walking around the hotel with open containers in The Westin Hotel period! This behavior could put the event in jeopardy of being cancelled by the hotel so this is a SERIOUS policy not to forget!

My group of friends are driving down Saturday morning, because I have class on Friday that I cannot skip.

One of our group wants to enter SF4, but I was wondering if I could get him in a later pool, just in case we hit traffic or something in the morning.

Is there an email address or something I should contact to settle this matter?

Very pumped about this tournament.

Anyone that can not be at the hotel on friday morning March 2nd, 2012 MUST SIGN UP ONLINE register for their badge and games or they will not be able to compete in the tournaments. No they will not be put in a later pool if they don't sign up online. They need to email the webmaster on the fr website to notify us that he will need to be in the late pools. They will get a spectator wristband and watch the event. Registration at the door ends on friday, period! If they register online they can pick up their badge on sat.

Thanks to all of you that decided to register early, you're saving us and yourselves a lot of time later and for those that are going to register at the door please be at the door on March 2, 2012 at 7:30am est.  Due to the shear amount of people attending FRXV we need to start the door registration earlier than normal.  The ballroom will not be open until 10am.

If you have registered since Feb. 18th, we are still processing your registration. These should all be done by tomorrow evening. See you in March....excuse me see you guys in 6 days and 4 hours!

For EVERYONE that paid online registration for your game and not your badge or vice versa you better get here early on friday morning because your registration IS NOT COMPLETE!  For those that didn't online register at all you better be here bright and early on Friday March 2, 2012 because registration ends on friday!  We had online registration up for 6 months so I hope you guys can make it out, but if you get here on Saturday thinking you are going to sign up for a tournament you'll be sadly mistaken.  There's only 4 days until FRXV eve so get hype people!  If you can get a friend to sign you up early on friday that would work also, but he needs all of your information and the money to buy the badge.  We'll put you in the system, and he will have your badge.

I'm not sure if we're going to get a stream, but if we do, probably a phone stream from Rayza which is http://www.twitch.tv/mrrayza since he's been talking about it lately. Depends on the connection we get.

I'm pretty sure you can take Marta transit to get there from ATL Int. Airport

Thank you. You are correct. Mantra transit Red line from Airport to Dunwoody stop. The hotel looks to be 1-2 miles away from the stop.

I heard that there was a different stop to get off on that you could take a hotel shuttle from and go directly to the hotel, but I don't know it. You might ask on IRC.

You can take a train to the hotel, just take the red line from Marta subway station from the airport and stop on Dunwoody station, there you can call to the hotel and they will send a shuttle to pick you up, or you can stop on Medical Center station and go walking to the hotel (I did that since my cellphone doesn't work on US,and I REALLY don't recommend doing that, seriously, try to find a way to call the shuttle).

If anyone thinks they are worthy, Chelsea still needs at teammate.  He dealt with a more than difficult pool #1 at Evo, but I assure you he's up to par if not above your standard American top player.

If you have space in your team for him let me know and I can hook you up.  Chelsea generally likes meeting people, so if you want to team up with him let me know and I'll introduce you.
