OK so things have gone down the shitter quite hard recently. The area's best player quit on everyone (who claims personal reasons), and who was considered to be the second best player failed to finish top three over on the west coast, finishing behind an Arc who has to use 3B to get any damage. There's no hype (Arcana Heart has more mindshare with the hardcore set despite having a much smaller scene due to raw hype and the work of a couple of notable people), no support (local players are too busy fighting amongst themselves and leaving for other games to try to get any new players), and no drive (the level of play is the same as it was six months ago, and that is not a good trend).
Even with all that, the beat goes on and the game rolls on, because we don't know what else to do. So here it is.
Also lawl at DSP still not even acknowledging the game's existence and Zaeler not putting this thread up even though he's 'hype' about the game (maybe he remembered he just ran good and everyone else here sucks).

Doors open at 12, casuals until 3. Tournament signups are from 1:30 until 2:30, and all tournaments are scheduled to start at 3 PM. Standard rules (2/3 rounds 2/3 games 3/5 for winners final, losers final, grand finals), bring your own stick or pad, we're playing on the PS2 because we're ghetto (the PC version will not be out by then, ship that), and don't act stupid. Also sickness and rank odor are banned so don't bring that shit.
Games will still be recorded (hopefully I don't get overly emo again and actually bother putting them up!). Zar will not be at this event (because he's busy with school... on a Saturday ::) ) and neither will Master Chibi (he'll be too busy touring Toronto's finest maid cafes... fucker).

We're moving to ver.B CE PC whenever it comes out. If it gets released early, we will use it at this tournament. If it gets delayed or canceled, we'll keep playing the PS2 version until something else comes out or we all quit and move on to better things (like knitting or body mutilation).

Man that's because everyone was riding the hype. I guarantee not a soul practiced the game since Evo save DNyc3 because the thread on SRK has been nothing but theory fighter and full of talk of people who have yet to really play against actual human beings. It's non existant on Dustloop, and this past weekend Saiyd, Zaelar, and myself played 200+ matches of Akatsuki (along with MB) and 0 of BBB.
I'm not hating on the game, but if I had a choice between AB and BBB, I'd go with AB really. Even though my character in BBB is most likely top tier while my character in AB is easily the worst in the game.

The last things MBread needs is support for a shitty fighter that will lower the level of play in MB. MB's combo rhythm carries over well into BBB's combo system which can raise execution in both games. Akatsuki is just bad. Bad animation, bad combos. You guys are honestly better off playing TMNT:TF. At least that won't really fuck with your MB game. Akatsuki's soundtrack and the fact that it has netplay are the only really redeeming factors aside for the creation of the compound word JEWPUNCHER.

I went completely past any logic regarding what skills would carry over to what games and went straight into your line of thinking.
I've been moronically arguing with people on SRK / DL / GCC who follow that same line of thinking anytime the question begging for that answer has come up since 2002.
So I'll say it again, keep your stupid, ignorant hate for the game off this forum, it's the last thing we need. How are we going to grow as a community when someone like you is already shitting on a game that was in the same place Melty Blood was three years ago? Seeing vids of BBB and AH at Kohatsu are awesome, I hope they both get arcade releases, that way the entire dojin fighter market will realize they can get past your monitor and into your wallets as a viable business venture (that's a good thing in the long run).
Also, Akatsuki looks like absolute SEX on my 27 inch monitor, while BBB is this ugly steaming pile of pixelation (not that I care either way).

There will be haters in any debate. I'm stating why I think Akatsuki is crap. I'm not actively seeking its destruction. I think it's a waste of time. Just like me playing IaMP is a complete waste of time even though I have fun with it. Bad games can be fun(though I think IaMP is good even though I blow chunks at it). We all know this.
Your speech is makes complete sense, too. Good things, regardless about how little exposure the things have gotten, need support. I honestly think Akatsuki is not worthy of that kind of support. It's fun, but it's not good. Let's start with graphics. Akatsuki uses mid-res sprites with low frames of animation. The frames that are there are chunky and do not give a very good idea of fluid movement. In all honesty? Looks like a mid-res SNES game. Even Gundam Wing: Endless Duel has more style.
BBB? BBB uses nearest-neighbor scaling to zoom in and out of the battlefield like Last Blade and other Neo Geo games did back in the day. It is definitely not pretty. But what really matters is that it opens up gameplay possibilities by letting characters be at complete opposite sides of the arena. Along with that, the sprites are very fluidly animated like MB's sprites. Graphics aren't great, but they have good style. I believe this places it above Akatsuki graphically.
The music in both games rock, too. Both games have very few characters. The system, however, is what makes or breaks the fighting game in the end. Akatsuki's sytem is pretty simple (read: boring[opinion]) with a very small moveset, very few combos, and a parry system just like every other fighter out there. BBB's systems has much more to keep up with, which is more in tune to the majority of common fighting game player's interests. Gauges, stock management, k-k-k-krazy combos. Complex system makes people work harder for their status which feels much more rewarding. You may disagree with this, but I believe it's a very important cornerstone of interest in fighting games.
So if I'm shitting on Akatsuki, it's because I honest don't think it's a good game. I'm not here to create heightened drama. I'm here to support MB first, and post my opinion second. And my opinion is that Akatsuki fucking blows, and I think the community who actively supports it blows (read: is supporting a shallow, boring game that won't catch on no matter how much they support it[opinion]). They may have fun, and good for them! Doesn't change my opinion of the game.

Let me just get this out there; my original plan was to stay with Sp00ky but for various reasons is not going to happen (there's no personal beef between us; far from it -- he just can't house me then, that's all). I thought I talked to Zaeler about it but I'm not sure if I did. Let me put that question out there now -- Zaeler, can you house anyone for the tournament (and if so, how many people)?
Worst comes to worst we can just get down there and back in a day; it's gar doing all that driving in a day but I've done worse.
