West Toast XII will occur ONE WEEK BEFORE Memorial Day Weekend! (:psyduck:) We'll also be holding Super Battle Opera (http://www.tougeki.com) "Last Chance Qualifiers" Qualifiers (hence the QQ) for Melty Blood: Act Cadenza and Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core! Please note that the QQs are for a guaranteed spot at Super Battle Opera's Last Chance Qualifiers which take place on the same day as the main event. Teams are typically drawn from a lottery into a 32-man bracket, but we've reserved a spot for both games for whichever team prevails at this event.
However, because these are not actual SBO spots, we cannot sponsor your airfare to the event (though I will try to go with the teams to Japan and assist in lodging and transportation). Therefore, the entry fee for a SBO QQ is $15 (no cover charge) and 50% of the Singles pot will go towards the SBO team.
:psyduck:: This is not occurring on Memorial Day Weekend because of two concurrent majors (NorthWest and ECC).
Where: Family Fun Arcade, in SoCal. Address is 10363 Balboa Blvd, Granada Hills, CA.
When: Saturday, May 17th to Sunday, May 18th.
Games: Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core, Melty Blood: Act Cadenza ver.B, Twinkle Star Sprites

Twinkle Star Sprites Teams (2v2 Tag Team/Waseda Format)
Time: 2:00 PM (Melty Blood QQ), 6:00 PM (Guilty Gear QQ)
Entry Fee: $15.00 Per Person. Twinkle Star Sprites is $3. There is NO Venue Charge on this day.
Special Notes: Machines will be on freeplay all day from 10:00 AM. Includes PS2/PC use.
SBO Modified:
Team Format, Single Match. 2v2 is Waseda (Tag), 3v3 is Pokemon.
No more than one character of each kind on a team. (i.e.: no Baiken/Baiken/Faust)

Part of me wants to say that it's lame that you couldn't get offical seeds for both MB and GG, especially with PZ having GG qualifiers in the US (so it isn't an issue of the relative strength of the community, for them). Especially since if I remember correctly, foreigners had priority in the LCQ pool to begin with.
But whatever.

I'm almost positive other majors will be taking place on Memorial Day weekend, so having WTXII on the weekend before that might work out perfectly.
Anyways, the ball's in our court. If we can prove that we have a consistently good Melty scene in the US, we'll be able to get spots next year. Honestly though, we still have a lot of work to do, and simply holding bi-monthly tournaments isn't going to cut it.

I've been wanting to work part-time lately anyway, so this works out pretty well if I can find some other place that will hire be before I start school. As I should have almost $5000 in the bank before I quit... I think I'll be pretty good on cash for a while. WTXII is an event I cannot miss, no matter what.

I think a good reason why Arly won't do that is because the first day we find out who goes to SBO, then the singles day we know who to give the 50% pot to.

Hello guys. You may recognize me by the picture.
People commented how I had no right to call myself a "champion" when I never actually earned it, I only made it.
Well, I came to the tournament with the full intention to give the belt to whoever won. So Hasuko is now the holder of the SNK Championship, for winning the TSS Singles Tournament. As defending champion, now she has an actual championship to defend ;D
What I want to do for West Toast XII is design a brand new belt, specific to the event (to replace the non-specific SNK belt). So, it would be the "West Toast Champion" or something like that. I have already worked on a TSS belt, but I wondered how people would feel about one for Guilty Gear and Melty Blood too. I wouldn't want to put the additional effort into making them unless the participants thought it was a good idea.
What I want to know is; is there some sort of special logo for West Toast? Something I can add to the design? I want it to be as legitimate as I can possibly make it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well, the belts will look similar to the ones that are in my forum picture. They wont be metal or anything (just matting board and tape) but I make props very sturdy, and the belt snaps will actually work. I just hope that nobody thought it was a corny idea. I mean, last thing I would want is for someone to win the championship, and then throw it away or forget it somewhere. I want this to be a serious thing.

Hellmonkey: Only because a teammate dropped out after qualification. We're not sending a one-man team to Japan- I think that'd be a serious slap in the face to the Japanese.
Also, as far as Kijea/Nerina goes, we're trying to send the strongest team over there so that SBO gives us a legitimate qualifier spot next year. Please keep that objective in mind for these qualifiers.

Thats what they did for Tekken 6, they've released it this year, or at the end of last year I believe, so still VERY new to the scene and its going to be at SBO this year.

You want to talk about sending the wrong message? It's raising a bunch of hell about SBO Melty Quals with an Arcana Heart 2 avatar. (Not that I hate on Arcana or anything but the irony is blatant.) But what's this "People will find out" stuff? You haven't given anything concrete. What's this 'bad enough other shit is happening' anyhow?
Anyways, it's true that we're not even sure if Kijea and Nerina are able to go to Japan during SBO week, but we've got other good players who wouldn't be able to afford the trip to WTXII, let alone SBO. Whoever ends up winning WTXII QQs is pretty much going to be our pick.

One man teams are not allowed. No substitutions during or after tournament either.
Except for the fact that I remember at least one sub from a foregin qualifier being made before the final event (and there are probably more). Also, double WTF as the winner here would not have even qualified for anything yet.
Which qualifier was that? We've been expressly told by SBO staff for years that subs were illegal, and I've seen several teams in Japan that were one man short because they weren't allowed to sub a missing teammate.

That falls under the no-substitutions rule. Otherwise if we post the results of the tournament, SBO would notice a discrepancy between the winners of the QQs and the actual SBO participants. On the other hand, seeing as this isn't for an actual SBO spot and that Emotiongear has completely thrown this rule out the window, I'm willing to make the following compromise:
What I can do is hold off on submitting our final team to SBO until June 20th (gives you about a month) to make sure that the winning team has the financial means necessary to go. Runners-ups will be next in line as reserve SBO QQ participants.
ONCE THAT TEAM HAS BEEN SUBMITTED, there are no substitutions.

If "Team America" consists of a really good visiting Korean player and a really good visiting Japanese player, this is what will send the wrong message to SBO staff. "Wait, I thought these guys were from America!" Again, it's no personal beef towards them, but if they do go, "Team America" may not be invited back next time :|

The Korean player is a permanent resident. The Japanese player is indeed visiting. I spoke with John Choi today who said it was fine. I understand your concern, but trust me- when you're actually at SBO itself, what matters the most is whether your team managed not to get peaced out in the first round, regardless of who was on it.

I still fully intend on creating a belt for each singles tournament.... but due to shortening time (and apparent lack of funds) they may just only have the center plate, and nothing along the side.
