another beginner and so confused.
« on: November 30, 2007, 09:38:25 PM »
SO i just got this game and i have been playing a bit... and i know  the basics kinda. I mean, i have played a fighting game before and i know how that kind of stuff works.
But this game is on a whole nother level. I can barely get through arcade mode on difficulty level two... SO yeah i suck. And the problem is i don't know where to start.

Can someone please pint me in the right direction?

A few questions:

What character are you playing?
What characters are giving you difficulty?
What control are you using(pad, stick or keyboard)?
Do you have difficulty doing special moves, and can you do your character's Bread And Butter (BnB) combos?

WEll... i tend to play better with one of these three...
Nanya Shiki
Arcueid Brunestud
Sion Tatari

I cant really decide because i dont know too much.

I dont know really what bread and butter tech are, but i can do the simple combo's  like down downforward forward C/B/A and things like that. I can button mash like  sonvabiatch.

I use a keyboard or a Xbox360 controller   whichever really suits my taste (and availability) at the time.

I have difficulty with any character that has long range. I cant block worth a crap... i dont know the technique for it. or whatever. I know its the backwards button but i dont know if im doing it wrong or not.

I have some difficulty with special moves. I can pull off the last arc moves okay.

I cant air combo at all... things like that.

See, i really do suck at this heh

EDIT: Lets put it this way. I jsut went through the arcade with evil Shiki, and i had to continue 3 times when i fought Ciel, once when i fought Chaos,  and i had two arc-drive finishes. I was teleporting all over the place with only a vague idea on how i was doing it. Oh and it was difficulty.... 2. so yeah.

Blocking is just holding back, yeah. Keep holding it down to continue blocking, of course.

I think that a good solution to your not knowing what does what would be going to practice mode and trying the basic inputs like a direction and one of the 3 buttons and 236/214/22/623/421 (look at the numpad to get what i'm saying) attacks to learn what everything does. Once you've learned all of a character's inputs and what they do, you'll probably be much better.

Draku's got it.  Learn what buttons do what, and learn your specials, before you move up to combos and the like.

This will teach you how to read our move notation:

And this will show you Nanaya Shiki's basics:

Lemme know if this helps at all!

Personally, Sion and Arc are very unfriendly characters. The heart of these characters lie in long, long, demoralizing combos, both of which necessitate patience and a whooooole lotta time to learn. Sion's took me a whole day, and I still drop it every now and then, but that's more because of the stupid "squeeze" glitch 'cause Sion's so anorexic. X3

Anyways, I don't play as any male characters, so I don't know what to say about them...

Yeah, Irovax is pretty much Right. Arc and Sion are both very beginner-unfriendly characters. However, Nanaya is pretty damn simple to learn so you won't have nearly as much trouble with learning him.

You forgot downback.

Also, he was talking about V Sion. >>;

Oh, another thing, refrain yourself from button mashing. Learn a few simple combos, and the air stuff will come naturally. Button mashing will get u killed in this game, as I've learned from Netplay=P This game really requires you to use your head.

24 is a normal input? I don't recall any moves with that as the input.

Also yeah I know. I was actually stating that V Sion is hard as well as normal Sion but I dunno about the other guy.
