bnb jump input
« on: January 10, 2008, 10:17:57 AM »
okay, ive been playing MB for a while now but am just starting to get decent.  i can beat the hell out of the computer with anyone, and usually win against my incredibly limited playgroup.  i am now trying to learn some serious game stuff, or even the 'beginner' stuff like, say, akiha's bnb (if there is anything easier please let me know).  i can manage either part of it (ground/air) separately but can never get off the ground fast enough to hit properly.  i have tried both IAD and sj, but what are the exact inputs?  if someone could use input on practice and show the exact input and frames on a couple simple bnb's and other strings that would be insanely helpful.

also, i play on my laptop (4-way dpad *cringes*), and have recently gained access to an xbox controller and a USB numpad.  which should i be using, why, and how should i get used to using it.

I'm by no means an expert player, but among my local circle, when we play free4alls I'm usually regarded as the final boss, similar to your situation. I'm a bit busy right now, but later, I could record a few vids showcasing some basic combos for the two Akihas, the two Shikis, and probably Len as well.

that would be awesome.  when you do, if you can have the input thing on so i can see exactly what you're doing that would be good, or at least an in-depth description of what you are doing (like words accompanying the 2b2c5c etc)

If you're not already doing so, hold 8 during 5bb's second b. After they're launched, you'll immediately leap into the air after them. Same rule for every launcher in the game.

okay, ive practiced using (akiha) a small ground string > launcher > jump > j.cb and then the next j.c misses every time.  is there some weird timing on the aerial part that im not thinking of? please, go ahead and mention the obvious, MB is my first fighting game so it might be useful information.

A < B < C in terms of time. A's are speedy, aren't out there for while, and don't cause that much hitstun. C's are slow, are out there to hit your opponent for quite a bit, and cause a lot of hitstun. To combo, you need to hit someone with a following move while they are in hitstun.

Basically, the hitstun from j.B isn't enough for you to j.C fast enough. So you need to try something like j.BC and then j.BC or j.C on the second jump.

(actually, you might be able to j.cb dj.c but I don't know akiha, but either way it doesn't matter because j.cb j.c does less damage, is harder, and is worse than j.bc j.c so you shouldn't use it anyway even if it did work. that much I do know)
