Hi-res sprites?
« on: February 18, 2008, 01:02:39 AM »
Has someone made a hi-res sprite pack for this game? If not, how can I get the files so that I can try it myself?

Making a fan made high res pack would be a god awful pain in the neck too, as Melty's strength graphicswise is its frames of animations.

No, this isn't a joke. If it can be done, I would like to try and redraw the sprites at a higher resolution.

That would mean death to everyone who tries it. Spriting is serious business. It is work.

Even if you did put forth the effort to make high-res sprites, it would take so long that MBAA would already be out, and who would want to play a high res version of an older Melty Blood when a newer version of the actual game is out? Heck, the next version after MBAA would probably be out by then.

If you are willing to modify each sprite, then go right ahead.

Each normal/special can range from 3 to 20 picture frames. Assuming that each character has like .. uhh.. 150 picture frames in the data and there are 23 characters in Melty Blood, you would have to modify 3450 pictures in the data file. Say you take 5 minutes per picture, it would equal 287.5 hours, and i consider 5 minutes to be damn fast highly unrealistic.

Just thought i would share some random numbers ;3

 :prinny: :prinny:

Speaking of which, anyone got a total number of frames in the game for characters? I'z curious.

The filecount in my MBAC spriterip folder is 21814 when I don't include the ending/special images. Yeah. Course that include effects like Akiha's flames, but I guess he'd have to up the res on those too...

Speaking from experience as a programmer trying to make a Nanoha-based fighter, there are an insane number of frames. I began using three dimensional models, then using gif-rips of the animation. Even on the highest picture compression, Flash took at least ten minutes to compile. Needless to say, it was impossible to work with. I'm redoing the entire engine, using maybe two or three frames per animation, hand-drawn into vectors, and it's still taking forever. Given, I'm no artist, but it's still tough enough to realize that the crazy guys ((and hopefully girls)) at French Bread deserve more respect than they receive.

Aoko is obviously a better character because she has more than 2000. Flawless Kafuka logic.

That's because her suitcase has 800 sprites itself. Showing the suitcase standing, leather blowing in the wind, relaxing in the grass field stage, frightening in the Kouma Alternative stage, drooling in the Neko Village etc.

She only has 1160.

Yeah, V Akiha has the most sprites of anyone, actually. Miyako only has 535 or so sprites though. She has the lowest of anyone, haha. The average count is about 800-900, though.

That's surprising. Kohaku only has 236, 214, and 22 moves, so I would have thought that she had the fewest. Miyako at least has a 623. I guess the difference lies in their Arc Drives...

And the plants, fire effects, etc. Can't forget them.

But yeah Kohaku actually has 983 sprites.
