Beats me. I wish I knew, to be honest.

I know a few tools can muck with them - for example, BlueShirt's Music Tool can edit 10.p (Music) and 06.p (Loop times for the music tracks) to allow one to replace the game's music files.

Google them for more info. *Doesn't remember where to get them offhand.*

Found it.

Sadly, doesn't seem to want to copy out DAT files. "Not enough storage space" my ass, this is a 1.5 TB Hard Drive with dozens of GB free...

At least, not the 20 MB+ ones. It copied out smaller ones just fine. Bizarre...

I'd still like something to poke around in AC, too. Totally different archive format there.

The file size is xorcrypted in MBAC's .p files, I imagine it's the same for some files in MBR, which would make for ridiculous sizes.

It's a pathetically simple format anyway.

I thought Extractor could pull the files (google for it I guess). That's what I used to unpack the music files.

What are you looking for, anyways?  If it's sprites, you're wasting your time by not using the MBAA extractor.  If it's stages, you'll find they're in pieces so have fun with that, you can get those for MBAA too anyways though I don't remember from where, voices and music are done, what else does the game even have that's worth digging through?

I already have the sprites and music ripped (and playing.) Nobody's ever seemed to want to take up my offer to show how to get it playing via Winamp, though. :P

I like to poke through stuff, mostly. It'd also give an idea of how the PS2 version of the Melty Engine "ticks" since it's quite a bit different from the AC engine, both the PS2/Ver. A and PC/Ver. B ones.

I'd also suspect that the engine would be closer to the AC engine than the Re-ACT one, so knowing a bit more about how it works/is encrypted can help for when/if an eventual AA port comes to PC so we can have a proper translation. A translation patch for the PS2 version would also need this information.
