Is doubles actually taken seriously?
« on: April 08, 2008, 08:07:37 PM »
I didn't think it was, because SSBM is the only fighter I know is serious with a non-tag doubles for competitive play (but the only other ones I play are SSBM and GG:AC so hell I might not know >_>) , but I was on the homepage and I noticed West Toast said singles in it, implying there is something other than singles existing. Then I searched the forums and "doubles" came up with no matches.

So is doubles not competitively balanced? I haven't really messed with it yet so I don't know. But don't think it would be that good without the ability to choose which way you're facing anyways.

BTW, it amazes me how some DOS program can run a game online that I doubt is actually coded for netplay sooooo much smoother than a game that was in development for too long and induces like 20 frames of lag and still freezes up.

When you say doubles, are you thinking the 4p team mode in MBAC?  You're a little mistaken then.  The only things seriously played in tourneys are single and team, with team meaning a group of people each taking turns going 1-on-1 with someone from the other team.

I feel like I'm not explaining this well enough, but you should get what I'm saying.

Yeah, that's what I meant by doubles.

The actual Melty Blood doubles seems like it would relate to SSBM's crew battles, but with only 2 participants per side.

Nope, MB teams is usually 2v2.

Say on one team you have player 1 and player 2, and on the opposing team you have player A and player B.

First round, player 1 plays player A, and player 2 plays player B.

In the event that both players on the same team win their matches, that team is the winner.

But in the event that one player on a team wins and the other loses, the remaining players play each other to determine the winner.

Tag mode makes it pretty easy to do infinites. 4P mode makes it laughably easy to do infinites. Both are fun if you play them non-seriously though.

It is not easy to do noncircuitsparkable infinites.  In teams doing repeated 2a from both sides is workable but it does little damage and gets sparked.  It's good for building meter though, and since they have to spark to get out they don't get to keep theirs.

Ok, it does get pretty bad when it's 2 on 1, but unless you can quickly turn it into a 1on1 you'd be fucked regardless of possible infinites.

And finally, teams aren't taken seriously at all.
