recommended arcade stick for PC
« on: November 24, 2007, 01:48:46 AM »
Yeah, so I'm looking for a quality stick for PC that I can use with ver.B.

I don't own a PS2 stick or anything since I've been mostly using a usb pad.

So what are my options and what sticks should I consider? I'm not opposed to buying a ps2 stick & adapter if that is the most reliable method, and money is no object as far as I'm concerned.

JUST for PC, HRAP3.  Already has USB input, no need to shop around for a low-lag pelican converter.

Well, I picked up a Fighting Stick 3 a little while ago thinking it would work well, I didn't realize that PC support for that Stick was hit or miss (thankfully I was able to return it)

I guess my question is, is the HRAP a little less painful to deal with in that aspect?

Also, how about Saulabi sticks? I've heard good things about them, are they a viable option, or does it come down to one of those "whichever you prefer" deals?

I've never heard of Saulabi, but I'm not a market shopper.  HRAP3 has drivers in WinXP, it's as plug and play as they come.  Don't take this as a total endorsement over Saulabi, but I'm just stating the effectiveness.

I've also been thinking about investing in a stick. What're your opinions on HRAP3 (let's say the buttons have already been replaced by Sanwa buttons) vs VSHG?

I read somewhere that the VSHG has some issues with other games so I didn't get that. Just grab an hrap and a set of sanwa+octagonal gate, you won't regret it.

>_> I <3 my Sanwa with a square gate...

Do some research, or maybe buy both if you have the money, but I think it's a matter of opinion as to which is best.

The octagonal gate is less than 5 bucks and you can usually get one alongside the buttons. I personally think it gives me more control but that's just me =)

Any HRAP is fine so long as you're comfortable with the button layout.

I have problems with the VSHG since it seems to have problems with multi-button inputs.

Hori fight sticks are garbage IMO.

T5 sticks are O.K but not the best.

tl/dr: get an HRAP or a custom.

get a custom with universal pcb

that way you wont have to worry about PSX/PS2 and Usb with converter lag or anything

You might want to check out the Pelican PS2-USB converter thread here (it seems Gamestop stopped carrying it). There's a review of the converter used with the HRAP2 here

I have one too, and I've been using it with my PS2 controller. I actually haven't tried a pad without the converter, so I may just be used to it, but I have no complaints about it. I'm able to pull off BnBs with good consistency (I main Akiha). It seems that other people in this board like the converter as well, so if you can get your hands on it, go for it.

An HRAP 2 with a pelican converter has practically no lag.

My HRAP 2 feels just like my HRAP 3 in terms of input speed.

I recommend HRAP 2 for PS2 if you can still find one.

I have a Tekken Hori and it's substantial, but if you have the money for it, go HRAP.

so... what's the difference between hori fight stick and HRAP?

other than cheaper parts.

are there any difference that will affect gameplay?

my place hardly stocks any HRAPs...

by the way, i tried a hori fight stick 3 with melty blood yesterday and it seems to be harder to use than keyboard... i cant get the timings as easily as i do with keyboard... (i play nanaya)

The cheaper parts are what affect players the most. It's also a lot easier to swap out parts in an HRAP since they use snap-in buttons with QDs.

Going from keyboard/pad to stick is always a hard transition for some people more than others. Just put in a lot of time practicing and you'll eventually get to where you were on keyboard/pad and surpass it (hopefully).

About Saulabi,

it has good reviews for being good bang for the buck. However, it's still
an economic stick, meaning no high quality parts are used.

So, is the only difference between HRAP2 and HRAP3 just the connection cord?  Should I purchase a HRAP3 to use with the PC, and hope that if MBAA comes out on anything other then arcade it's PC?  I don't feel like dropping $100 if I'm going to be unable to use it for much.

The difference is like $40~$60, I'd rather go for the PS2 stick imo

I'd go with an HRAP1/2. More resell value, and more usefulness.

HRAP3 was compatible with only ps3 and pc.

HOWEVER

With the new firmware you can use it on ps2, also.

So, since HRAP 2 is incompatible with ps3...
