Known issues with MBCaster
« on: September 26, 2007, 05:47:20 AM »
There are known various issues and bugs with MBCaster, along with some fixes of varying kludginess. Please do not report them unless you have more information on them (like ways to consistently cause desynchs).

  • POV hats, which work in MB:AC, do not work in MBCaster. This mainly affects people playing with X360 pads and sticks. Workaround: Use joy2key to map the POV hat to the keyboard controls.  Fixed by updating to the latest version.
  • MBCaster adds additional input lag on top of the inputed delay. Current reason is unknown. Workaround: Account for this when inputting input delay before the start of a game for optimal performance. Fixed by updating to the latest version.
  • MBCaster will say something about version incompatibility when trying to observe games, even when everyone is running the latest version. Workaround: Ignore it; the error message is harmless if everyone is running current versions. Fixed by updating to the latest version.
  • MBCaster will desynch at times. All causes are unknown, but it seems to happen more frequently with White Len and Neco-Arc Chaos, and will always happen if one player has NAC unlocked and the other does not and someone tries to play him. Workaround: Don't play shitty characters. Partially fixed by updating to the latest version. Some FPU-related desynchs still remain but tend to be very rare out in the field.

For some reason, 'normal' backgrounds interfere with caster and can be a source of desyncs even for very powerful computers.  If you're having desync issues, try turning backgrounds to 'simple' instead of 'normal'.

and where can we set that option?

Options menu.  I pointed this out in another thread as well, the "What not to do during netplaying" thread.

You should also inform the person you are connecting to, as there is no way to tell which side the desync originated from.

Edit: Hey Kelong, by any chance are you running a dual core processor?

Well, sometimes dual core processors can cause weird shit to happen in some games.  I have dual core as well, and I had desync issues until I did the simple bg fix.  Just noticing a trend is all.

Something tells me MBCaster needs a perfectFreeze flag for Hisui like how IaMP has one for Yukari.

Ok Im using a X360 pad and i saw this POV hat thing, does this have something to do with inputting commands because i cant seem to throw a decent blood ring >.> or a good Combo off or even teleport properly.

And whats Joy2Key help me, Im getting owned at Netplay x_x

Edit: I now have Joy2Key ^^

Joy2Key is program that maps joystick/pad buttons onto keyboard keys.  This fixes most compatibility issues for sticks with crappy drivers.

There's a problem with saving replay

caster will desync if player A saves at a slot where player B already has a replay on it. (MBAC will ask player B if he wants to overwrite, while player A is already back at the character selection screen)

Thus why I'm a proponent of renaming your replays as they come out of the MBAC-o-matic.

Implementing automatic replay saving and renaming would be awesome too.

for an alternative to joy2key, a more user friendly program exists called xpadder

http://www.xpadder.com/

You can load up a picture of your stick (I use the DoA stick image) and map things out so you dont have to try to remember which one is "button 9" or "button 10"

it desyncs when one player has macros enabled and the other doesnt (to be exact, it desyncs the moment the player with macros enabled uses those macros im quite sure)

This was not actually fixed, I just determined that it was a non-issue created by frame skipping. There is no added input delay, and never has been, but it will skip frames (and not tell you) if your delay is slightly low.

Macro using is cheating, so it's okay.
