1. Different cabinet please. Preferably a head to head, but since I don't think that's feasible with the amount of room in there, a real showcase. Something big and wide so that I can fit my ass next to other people without elbowing them in the face. This is a personal gripe, but I'm not going to enter any tournaments down there when I know my execution will be skewed because the only way I'll fit is by facing the token machine.
2. Coordinate with the management. Not only do you need permission from the owner but a number of other things have to be taken care of. Fliers need to be put up so that the locals will know, and perhaps draw a number of people who don't even want to participate but want to watch. Sticks and buttons need to be in top condition on tournament day. Hell, if the machine can be moved for that one day to accommodate the larger number of people showing up that's way better.
3. Coordinate with the wider community. Always watch out for other tournaments occurring on the same day. I know it didn't happen this time, but since all the Interface players are also 3rd strike players, what if everyone had gone to the Cal Poly tournament? Three people would have shown up? Well, I guess it would have been easier to distribute the prize money.
Also, many of us have run tournaments before, large or small. If you're not completely sure of your plan, then talk it over with someone. I'm sure anyone who is driving out there already wouldn't mind helping to run it as long as they were asked in advance. Don't wait until gametime to start asking people. Five minutes of preparation can save hours of embarrassment.
That being said, I wouldn't mind going out to a properly run AI tournament nor would I mind helping run one. I think that with collaboration from everyone we can put aside yesterday's incident and move forward with the growth of the Arcade Infinity Melty Blood scene. After all, it'll still be a little while before FFA has Champion Edition.
well put. now after all the ranting i put you through last night was just how steamed i was. i'm sorry and take some things back but it would be way better if you left it in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. i dont care if you hate me until i die just get things together and make sure everyone knows whats goin on.
