Regional Community / Re: Melty Blood: Act Cadenza NA Arcade Locations

Jame's Games in Upland no longer has the Act Cadenza cabinet. Rick (the owner) removed it because even at $0.25, it wasn't pulling many players. I believe he paid $2,500 for the arcade board and ROM, which is a shame because he already owns several Naomi boards. Unfortunately, he could not find the ROM alone and was forced to buy the full kit. It was pretty much me and about four other people who played it with any regularity. It is a shame, but folks preferred to play Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Third Strike, two games that were a decade old at the time. Keep in mind, this is before Rick obtained Street Fighter IV, Blaze Blue and KOF XII. So I have no clue why it was not attracting people.I am thinking of trying to talk Rick into buying a really old computer for maybe $100 online, buying a copy of Act Cadenza from Play Asia, and setting up a home made M.A.M.E. type cabinet, just so the game is there. We shall see.

Welcome aboard Mr. Purple. Get a flip top (cheaper and safer than a mod chip) and get down to some brawlin' in Actress Again.

@ CrossEyes

Glad you enjoyed the anime. It isn't really a great example of anime in general, but for those who want to know a little something about this series without playing Tsukihime (the motion novella that Melty Blood is based upon), it is fairly useful. It leaves something to be desired, but that is what Melty Blood and Mirror Moon patches are for. As for Shiki being the main character...that is debatable. The series is called Tsukihime. That is a direct reference to Arcueid Brunstud, the blonde vampire that ****SPOILERS*****

Shiki cuts to pieces when he first meets her. I feel that as far as the anime is concerned, it is really about Arcueid's story through Shiki's eyes. They obviously don't cover enough ground as not enough is revealed about Arcueid's past nor about what she plans to do as far as being the last pure vampire.

On a side note, my  copy of Act Cadenza showed up from Play Asia. For some reason, I was expecting a jewel case. Some days, i really hate the switch to DVD cases for games. they suck up so much space. But the full color manual is a nice step up. Now I can finally use the patches from Mirror Moon.

@Lolisauce

PS2 emulators are massive resource hogs. Even with speed hacks, I would only get 3/4 speed in a best case scenario. Until they release Actress Again for the PC, I probably won't be playing it. As crazy as it sounds since it is still the best selling system of all time, I don't own an actual Playstation 2. So my options are non-existent. Getting Act Cadenza ver. B was more about going with the best route available. I could always go out buy a PS2 or buy a desktop with a PCI-e port, but that seems more costly. It was bad enough spending $70 on just the game. However, I could bug Rick down at James Games and ask him when he plans to invest in Actress Again.

@Cross Eyes

Adult Swim used to be a fantastic way to learn about anime. In fact, some of the best anime of all time have been shown to U.S. audiences through Toonami/Adult Swim. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Full Metal Alchemist, Wolf's Rain, Trigun, Big-O etc. But these days, I don't know what anime you think you will see on Adult Swim. Between syndicated programming from Fox (American Dad, King of the Hill, Family Guy) and a ton of horrible live action shows and medicore animated series (yes I am talking about Metalacolypse or however you spell it), I find adult swim to be a quesitonable source. Expand your horizons. Take the gamble. it is a short series. You can probably see episodes of it on Youtube. You could always continue calling Shiki, "fruit knife glasses guy" but I don't know how well that will bowl over in arcades and forums.

That first guide was totally wicked! Now I know how to air evade, activate heat, and know what the hell heat modes do. All I need now are inputs for the arc drive moves and I am set. I still have to learn some of the guard elements (e.g. fuzzy guard) but I already have the basics down. Now I can move to the advanced gameplay. Also, I never knew this game had a parry like function. Nobody at the James Games (for the brief while that they had it) used that technique. Hopefully, it is not as broken as it is in Street Fighter III. Thank you all so much. I will be referencing this thread very often.

Crosseyes, you are one funny person.

1) I believe that the other poster meant "do you want to get flamed" rather than "do you want to get trolled." Trolling is the act of going to a specific forum and purposefully saying things to incite anger from the community e.g. going to a Nintendo Wii forum and saying something like "Wii graphics are fail." Being flamed on the other hand, is saying something ignorant (despite the general ignorance that composes the internet, people always assume that everyone is informed about the subject that a forum is based on) that will result in people furiously insulting you, your intelligence of your very existence.

2) I had to laugh when you called Shiki the "fruit knife glasses guy." I suggest you go watch the anime Shingetsutan Tsukihime. It doesn't quite catch you up on the Melty Blood story, but being familiar with Tsukihime helps out enough to at least know most of the core characters and their names. Either way, welcome to the forums.

Anyways folks, personal update here. I just ordered Act Cadenza ver. B from Play Asia. Should be here by Saturday or Tuesday (Monday is MLK after all). I already have the bootleg on my computer (I know, shame on me) but I am excited to finally be out of that horrible pit and back into the light. Now that I own a Wii, I think I am going to get out of PC gaming...with the exception of Melty Blood.

Thank you for the swift replies. That actually helps a lot. I suppose referring to the numpad makes sense given that this game is originally a PC title. But it makes things difficult considring that I play with the Xbox 360 controller for Windows.

I am not too shabby at this game, but I still play it like it is Marvel Super Heroes and X-Men COTA. I don't know anything about the Heat system or the other complexities of this game engine. I tried Gamefaqs but it had the most horrific numeral based shorthand. Perhaps that was lazy of me to dismiss it, but I come from the world of arrows and standard short hand (e.g. light punch = lp). Anyways, I am just looking to play this game as it was intended. So any help would be appreciated, even if it will require me to learn what something like "5a326" means.

I am not sure my laptop can run a PS2 emulator that well. My roomie has a similar laptop to mine and even with speedhacks, he only gets decent performance with some games. I could give it a spin though. Some of the new characters looked interesting. Also, I do look forward to some solid conversation with other fighting game enthusiasts. I think I will get settled in here.

Howdy folks!

I am a fighting game enthusiast in every sense (I actually paid to see Legend of Chun Li if that is any indicator). I came across Melty Blood four years ago over at Doujin Style back when Type Moon was still a doujin soft developer along with French Bread. Currently I plan to take the $70 plunge and buy a copy of Act Cadenza for my PC. It is all part of my plan to legalize all of my music, games and movies. At this point, getting Act Cadenza is the final item on the transition list. My interest in this franchise picked up again after I was browsing through some really awesome Melty Blood fan art over at Deviant Art. I was so inspired, that I decided to create my own original theme music for Red Arcueid, based on a wallpaper for Arc and Warc. If you so choose, you can check out my mix

Anyways, the Melty Blood forums are inactive on Gamefaqs. Posting is sparse over at Mirror Moon. That pretty much leaves this site as the last bastion for discussion of all things Type Moon and Melty Blood.
